The Brisley Bell Bed & Breakfast in Breckland

Stayed for a couple of nights in a very clean & spacious dog friendly room. Met friends for Sunday lunch, & enjoyed one of the best 3-course meals ever. Roast beef was spot on, as was the very boozy tiramisu afterwards. Breakfast both mornings was also very good, with very fresh orange juice, omelettes & full English. All the staff were very friendly, & made such a fuss of our border collie. A lovely short break & highly recommended.

Review of our one night stay on the 7th February 2025 We were greeted by the friendly bar staff on arrival. We chose to sit at the bar and enjoy the comfortable and relaxing surroundings by the open log fire, over a couple of drinks. We had the pleasure of meeting the manager Laura, who was lovely, welcoming and happy to chat with us. The rooms are next to the pub, in a courtyard with their own outside seating areas for each room. We loved the room (Hunny), it is spacious, beautifully decorated, with some lovely touches. The bed was extremely comfy with lovely soft bedding. The roll top bath in the bedroom was perfect. We enjoyed a fantastic evening meal (3 course) in the Bell - could not fault it. Again the waiting staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. We both had a great night's sleep, and this was followed up with a hearty breakfast served by a young lady (Ella??) who again, was so friendly. The room, bar, meal and staff were perfect. We will definitely stay again. Highly recommended.

Amazing pub. We stayed for one night. Pub was so cozy and welcoming. Restaurant was lovely. Good menu and good quality food. Attention to detail in all areas! Our room was large, dry comfortable and quiet. Only minor thing I would recommend would be to have some bedside table lights. But that’s just personal preference. We will definitely be back 😊

If you are looking for a place to take your partner on valentines, and give them the Wow factor, then look no further. They will think you have spent a fortune on them, but between you and I, the food is excellent, but very reasonably priced..

The Brisley Bell has the appearance, ambiance and feel of a traditional country pub, with exceptional accommodation, peace and quiet and a fine restaurant menu. We stayed overnight in January and found the whole experience a delight. It's in a great location near the coast with ancient woodland nearby, as well as carefully-tended gardens surrounding the pub. We had a lovely stay and will definitely return. Thank you.

My friend and I had dinner last night - our first time at The Brisley Bell. Apart from it being a beautiful building full of lovely touches, several open fires, comfy sofas and lots of space, it was full of happy-looking people having a great evening out. The service was perfect - friendly and quick, but not intrusive. Staff were happy to have a chat, and knew about the menu so were able to answer any questions. And the food was heavenly - both our choices were delicious abundance perfectly cooked. We had a lovely, really special evening to celebrate both our birthdays. We'll be coming again.

Can't wait to try the rooms.. the food and staff are always excellent here! A lovely place for a treat night out. 👍🏼

Fantastic little country pub with amazing comfortable rooms. Staff were super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Had dinner there one night and the menu had a good selection - difficult to choose! When the food arrived it was plentiful and well cooked. The cask ales were well kept and the log fires added to the ambience as it was snowing outside. Breakfast was table service and again a good choice available. Will definitely be back when next in area

We were greeted with a friendly smile from a member of the staff, the pork belly with chilli sauce was so tasty, for main the turkey and gammon pie was a bit too salty for me, my wife had the pork loin which was very enjoyable, cappuccino was excellent.

What a fabulous find. Beautifully restored. Lovely rooms - dog friendly too. Excellent food - loved the steak night. Staff were exceptional. We will certainly return. Would highly recommended this lovely rural retreat.

We stayed overnight at the Brisley Bell in Troose room, just before Christmas, and the room was absolutely gorgeous with beautiful furnishings. The staff were wonderful & friendly. We had a 3 course meal and drinks in the pub & really loved the food - it’s on the pricey side, but the decor inside the dining room & cosy fire made it all worth it. The pub is in a wonderful location stand alone on a country lane, I will definitely recommend to others for a romantic weekend stay.

The Brisley Bell is a marvellous place to stay, have a delicious breakfast and a great Sunday lunch. We took our dog and the room had many nice things for him, a luxurious blanket, Forthglade treats and a towel. Altogether a wonderful visit

We loved The Brisley Bell. I booked a table for the nine of us and some of our family were lucky to arrive well ahead of time. We walked in and received a very warm welcome. We took up residence on the three sofas located near the stunning fire place. The vibe was so relaxed. First impressions count and the barman is top of his game. Very engaging and knows his cocktails! Our table for nine was beautifully laid and in an excellent location. All our waiting staff were friendly and extremely efficient. Great selection of food and drink and our three grandchildren cleared all their plates. Generous portions and everything was perfect. If you live striking distance from the Brisley.....you are VERY LUCKY.

Although the brisley bell is local to me hadn’t been for sometime as it’s a treat, brought relatives that were visiting us as they wanted to go and really pleased the food was still amazing ! Very happy relatives!

Our first visit here after a friend’s recommendation. I was really impressed with the layout and atmosphere of the pub. Tables well spaced apart and many different rooms. We were seated in the ‘green room’, the food was really good, served on hot plates with attentive service from the staff. Very happy and we left a tip for the good service. One of my new favourites, I was impressed. My thanks to the staff.

We had an absolitely delicious meal followed by a wonderful overnight stay in a sumptuous room. It was a very relaxing stay to celebrate a special birthday with family. Staff were welcoming and friendly. I felt thoroughly spoilt. Thank you very much. We will be back.

We had booked this meal for my husband and l as it was my husband's birthday and our granddaughter who had recently passed her driving test. My granddaughter was delayed because of the fog and on arrival l explained this to the member of staff. She was extremely understanding and told us not to worry as it was not a problem. She suggested we make ourselves comfortable until our granddaughter arrived. We ordered drinks and settled by the enormously comforting fire on a very comfy and homely sofa.At no time during the 10-15 minutes that we waited did we feel pressured or uncomfortable. Quite the opposite. When said granddaughter arrived the first thing our staff member did was ask if she would like something to drink. No big hurry to get us into the dining room. The meal itself was exceptional. Not only beautifully cooked and presented but delicious too. Service was excellent- quietly efficient, staff polite and unobtrusive. Superb all round.

We had a great overnight stay at the Bell, Friendly staff, good beer, good food and a lovely room. Minor niggles, TV only had one channel available and the soundproofing between rooms could be better.

Nice looking country pub in the heart of Norfolk. Came too late for normal lunch service, but that was fine as it's a bit pricey for my pocket but there was a bar snack menu which was well priced and to be fair was more like tapas. Personally I'd go with spending £20 on bar snacks and getting 5 small dishes.

Everything about our short stay was perfect. Lovely rural location, buildings and gardens. Smashing room, excellent food and really friendly staff. We felt so comfortable here!

Once again, absolutely beautiful meal, this visit we had the pleasure of staying overnight in Troose room. It was lovely, very clean, lovely little touches in decor and drink and biscuits provided. The toiletries were really good too! Can't recommend this place enough.

My Wife and I visited and stayed at the Brisley Bell for the first time. The food and service was excellent. The room was very clean and tidy and decor to a high standard. Overall a very nice pub and place to eat and stay. We will be going back and I would highly recommend.

Dining here was a superb experience. The cuisine was exquisite and refined, with drinks that were equally impressive. The atmosphere was both inviting and serene—a perfect spot to enjoy a drink with friends and savor some exceptional food.

My friend and stayed for two nights in a double room each two weeks ago. I stayed in one of the courtyard rooms, Wyndham, I think. Gorgeous room indeed. Lovely linen and decor. The bar and snug area is so cosy, log fires, comfortable sofas and seats - loved it. Food was good too. We were due to go out for the day on the second day but I unfortunately had a flat tyre Marcus, the owner, jumped to assist. Way over and beyond - he took the wheel off, ordered and paid for another and the next morning refitted it before breakfast . Al I did was hand over the keys and pay for the tyre. Amazing service thank you so much

I like the food at The Bell, the service is also finding it's feet and things are on the up. As my "local" I am happy to see some lagers at a decent price as well as the San Miguel at higher price point. They also have a good range of wines which will suit most palates and prices. I look forward to seeing it grow into it's new skin. It's now a year after opening and The Bell is a well established local, and destination pub. The food is still superb and the gardens are lovely. It's a great place for a drink or a really good meal and the staff are top notch. We are lucky to have it. Any years in and it is still a top destination.

We had a fabulous night & time when we stayed for my wife’s birthday. The Stewkey room was exceptional with a massive bathroom. The gardens & lawns were immaculate. We booked to go on a Tuesday for the steak night. The team could not have been more friendly and great service. The food delicious as was the breakfast. Great value & we will definitely book again. Thank you to all the team.

6 of us had a lovely meal and no complaints about the food but my only gripe was that only having one choice for vegetarians in the mains selection in this day and age is very poor.

Delicious food in very comfortable surroundings. We stayed the night in one of the sumptuous rooms so not far to go home after a really good meal and nice wines. The breakfast was also superb, a great place to eat and stay.

Beautifully decorated old pub in a small village. Went for lunch, which was delicious, roasted squash with garlic butter, very tasty and filling. Staff were friendly and attentive.

We hadn’t booked but decided to visit while visiting friends in the area. Greeted warmly by all the staff especially Becki who showed us to a lovely table by a cosy fire. Took time to explain about the rooms, menus etc and the various dining areas. Although not cheap the food was excellent and certainly worth the money. Scampi was delicious and husband said his venison pie was superb. The waitress was attentive, friendly and very smiley. Would definitely like to visit again when in the area and certainly stay in one of the rooms. Couldn’t find fault with anything

A short visit for Sunday lunch, which was excellent, served by lovely staff

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Brisley Bell: we arrived on a very windy and chilly day but we were warmly greeted upon arrival and made to feel at home. The bar and sitting rooms are rather special and exceptionally cosy and we particularly enjoyed the choice of local beers (one of which we have just ordered on line). Our room (Hunny) was beautifully decorated; it was spacious and very comfortable: we particularly enjoyed the little bottle of sloe gin and biscuits which were provided! The evening meal, which was a set menu (as it was a Monday evening and the restaurant serves set menus on Mondays) was excellent. We strongly recommend the Brisley Bell to anyone who is keen to explore the coastal villages of North Norfolk.

The Bell at Brisley is a great place to stay for a relaxing break in Norfolk . Tasteful, comfortable rooms , quiet and peaceful with a lovely garden. The food is excellent, lots of choice , different daily selections, not the ubiquitous pub food. Breakfasts individually cooked to order. Well located to travel in any direction to Norfolks many attractions .

Quality from the time you walk into the building. Staff were attentive and efficient and very friendly. The menu choices made it difficult to decide what to have as there was plenty to select from. The food when it arrived ( in double quick time) was exceptional and well presented. Overall an excellent time was had by us and our friends.

Stayed her for a couple of nights. The pub and gardens are superb - with real character. Our room was well-appointed and nicely decorated. The staff were friendly and helpful. Both breakfast and dinner were superb. Our dog was made to feel welcome (she loved the treats they supplied!) and a well-designed accessible wet room was an added bonus.

What a fabulous treat to stay here in The Beeler room for one night whilst visiting relatives ! The room was stunning - so tasteful, classic yet modern and spotlessly clean. The bed was extremely comfortable, staff couldn’t be more helpful and our breakfast was delicious, beautifully cooked and generous in portion size. Since returning home, everyone has been shown photos of this little gem we’ve found in Norfolk. We also enjoyed the gardens - so many areas to explore and all very relaxed and welcoming. It was wonderful to be able to access outside space from our room. Thank you for a very memorable stay.

Visited the Bell yesterday for an impromptu lunch (we hadn’t booked, table for two). We haven’t been before but have been recommended by several people to go and try. The Bell certainly has curb appeal, beautifully presented, set back from the road and yet a statement in the lovely village of Brisley. When we entered, it was clean, fresh and not overly hot considering the temperature of the day. There were some yappy dogs brought in by patrons though which I feel lowers the tone for a restaurant (maybe an area for those with dogs would be nice?). We were seated and served by some lovely waiting staff and given menus. We are both vegetarian and found there to be limited options for main courses, both priced at £20 each which is a lot for a veggie option, but nevertheless, we ordered starters and mains each and were very satisfied. I had a mocktail, too, which was delightful. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that there are limited veggie options, plus the ones there are have cheese for every course. Now i’m as much of a cheese lover as anyone, but it would have been nice to have an option (the soup was cheese-free, but it was 28 degrees and not soup weather). Also, the pricing is quite high, especially for veggie food. Otherwise, a wonderful time if you’re obsessed with cheese and have deep pockets. We would return for a special occasion. I might suggest a tapas menu as a thought; easy to squeeze vegetarian options in and less of a hit on the main menu - just a suggestion, though. Thanks for your hospitality.

We were very lucky to be able to book the Brisley Bell for one of the few summer weddings they do due to their popularity as a destination pub. The Brisley Bell is truly a gem and an amazing find, it’s got everything you could want, great food, great venue, lovely gardens and a really nice rural location. The owners attention to detail and extensive renovation and re-imaging of the pub really are special without losing any character. Just go and book one of there six superb rooms each capable of being a honeymoon suite, kick back in the garden for a leisurely afternoon then move into one of the restaurant rooms, the snug or the bar for some recognisable but high quality and more importantly very tasty food. I almost didn’t want to give such a great review because I don’t want to spoil the secret gem it is.

Booked for a Sunday Roast. Great food large roast with good selection of vegetables. Nice choice if deserts. Nice selection of wine and beer. Cannot fault will return.

Best pub I've been to in a long time. Easily would rival if not surpass household names like the Pig on the beach. Great atmosphere in the pub. Nice blend of cozy local vibes and gastropub fine dining. The food was incredible and the rooms very spacious and light. Staff were very helpful and friendly!

Lovely food good service but plagued with flies there must be a way of either reducing or controlling the amount of flies in the restaurant apart from putting a twirly thing on the table

Food was faultless, amazing range of options, amazing Gluten Free options. The decor and atmosphere of the pub is great, however unfortunately the service we received was slow and a bit chaotic. The food price is reflective of the quality however the experience was dampened by the service. And unfortunately we were overcharged by £60 on top of a £20 tip, which we only noticed after leaving. It would be good to return and feel like the staff were well trained and had a good knowledge of the menu and service.

Sunday Sirlion Roast Beef Dinner. The vegetables, most were not fully cooked.The broccoli was raw ! The beef was tough as old boots, not sirlion as advertised, more like the silver side, a much cheaper & tougher cut. Served on a cold plate - Well, it was a busy time, yet ? We paid for a quality meal, but received a canteen style dinner. Parking needs to be sorted too . A real nightmare to park up sometimes. Sack the Chef & enable customers to park in comfort please.

Probably the best pub in Norfolk. Does absolutely everything. Actual pub with great atmosphere and perfect place for a few drinks and to hang out with the locals but then a superb restaurant as well. The food is perfectly pitched, interesting and varied menu but then when it arrives you realise it’s a real chef in the kitchen and the food would not look out of place in 5 star city restaurant. In the summer there’s a huge space out the back perfect for long afternoons or families with kids. The rooms are 5 star as well. A true destination pub that it’s impossible to be too positive about.

Enjoyed a wonderful 2-night stay. Perfect pooch-friendly base from which to explore the beautiful county of Norfolk. Delicious food, delightful accommodation and well-maintained grounds to enjoy. Will be heading back for sure! 💜

A lovely discovery. We ate in the back dining room on one visit and then in a. Window seat at the front a couple of weeks later. Always great service with lovely staff and the food is so good. Well worth a visit.

Stayed for 1 night but wished we could have stayed longer! Room was amazing with everything you need, food was delicious and our very generous continental breakfast was lovely and fresh (we opted for continental as we couldn't face the cooked breakfast available due to still feeling stuffed from our meal the night before) We spent some time talking with the owner who was very friendly, with nothing seeming too much trouble for her! we will definitely be back in the future.

The Bell is a truly warm and welcoming pub with a great menu cooked and presented beautifully as a bonus staff welcomed my dog well done you.

One night stay, but in hindsight would have made it two, as is a real find. The decor is superb, in a traditional warm and welcoming way, with excellent staff who made us feel very welcome. Obviously very popular, as was busy but not packed. Gorgeous open fires. Our room extremely comfortable, with everything you could need. We both loved the style. Breakfast was in keeping with the quality of the venue. Suffice to say, we will definitely be coming back.

We spent a couple of nights at the Brisley Bell and couldn’t have been happier with accommodation. The room was beautiful. We had an evening meal and a Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, portion sizes were very generous. Breakfasts were just as good. Everything was perfect but for us the stand out feature of our stay was the friendliness of the staff. They were wonderful and couldn’t do enough for us to ensure we had an enjoyable weekend. I guarantee that if you decide to stay here you will not be disappointed.

Lovely Sunday lunch, excellent selection on the menu, the service was perfect, but we were not made to feel rushed. This was our second time at the Bell, both were for Sunday lunch and both were really enjoyable and good value for money, well done to the team and I can guarantee we will be back.

I was taken there for dinner and an overnight stay by my partner to celebrate my birthday. The room was charming and well appointed in what appeared to be converted stables at the back of the pub. The main building itself was nicely and sympathetically restored as was the dining room that we found ourselves in. We didn't have starters. The main course was wonderful. Rump of venison served with dauphinoise potato, kale and roasted plums in a wonderful jus. My partner had the cod with pea puree, parsnips, oyster mushrooms and new potatoes. We could not fault either of the dishes but the venison was just superb. We followed this with deserts. Mine being a white chocolate panna cotta with rhubarb and strawberries with sable biscuits. I was disappointed with this as it was fairly one dimensional and needed another flavour or two to lift it. My partner's banana and almond tart with rum and raisin ice cream was the better desert for sure. It was the service or lack of it that really let down the whole experience. We were never once asked if our food was ok or if we wanted more to drink. There was no bread served at any point and we even had to find our own cutlery for our deserts as none were brought to us. There were plenty of staff hurrying around but they were more focused on setting tables for the following mornings breakfast than attending to dinner guests. It wasn't just us as we noticed all of the other diners were similarly left unattended to. Our room was clean and warm with all we needed for a pleasant stay.......but the beds!! Arghhh we both woke up multiple times in the night with aches, pains and numbness. The mattress was just far too hard and a bit lumpy. At least the full English breakfast the next morning was really good and very substantial. The Brisley Bell has some elements that make it potentially a wonderful place to dine and stay. It is silly that it lets itself down on the service and the beds.

Pleasantly surprised for a pub in the middle of nowhere offering such commendable service.Upon arrival we were well received by the barmaid, a very pleasant young lady. We had a small drink in the well stocked bar and a nice little chat with the barmaid, learning what the place was all about, we were then shown our room for the night, WOW!!! what a surprise , never expected to find a gem like this way-out here. Very spacious, clean tidy and warm, but not too warm. Again the young barmaid was very helpful, she obviously loves her job, well done you. Other establishments could learn a lot from you. Only one thing to mention that could be improved upon.If you were staying here for ,say, a week, you might find the lack of a wardrobe not to be satisfactory. The restaurant, such an atmosphere , truly a restaurant you can dine in well relaxed which is what its all about on a weekend away.Staff very welcoming and most helpful. I asked the waitress about what desserts were still left available before i ordered my main course, which she duly stated, to which she said she could reserve one for me so they wouldn't run out(well impressed). The food...What a chef, no complaints here, top drawer, being an ex-chef myself, know what i'm talking about, well travelled as well, there are good and there are bad, this guy is way up there. He obviously has a passion for his work and so proud of what he achieves, i take my hat off to the guy. We enjoyed a premium wine that was well chilled and a very good accompaniment to our meal. We were after all celebrating 50yrs of being together and our 47th wedding anniversary , so why not push the boat out!!. When we were departing in the morning, we had a little chat with the morning staff in the bar after we had eaten an excellent continental breakfast in a different dining area to the previous evening with a lovely aspect out of the window. We asked them where they got their chef from to which they replied , France, told them to hang on to him. We will be back!!!

I would have given this 5* but!!! The food and staff have always been excellent (apart from the owner/manager). We come from London but we regularly visit Dereham and on most occasions we book into the Brisley Bell for dinner. We went at the end of last summer, firstly we had a drink in the bar then ordered our meal. We had a lovely starter then our main meals arrived.i had ordered lamb but it certainly didn’t look like I had expected it to, it was a creamy dish. I called over the waitress and explained that I didn’t think this was what I had ordered. She then called over another member of staff who told me it was a vegetarian dish. He swiftly took it away and returned with the lamb. Sorted! Or so you would have thought. On checking the bill both the lamb and vegetarian were on it. We went to the bar where we expected an apology and for the bill to be amended. But no. The owner manager who was standing nearby came over and said that she trusted her staff and they would not make a mistake with the order and implied that I must have ordered the vegetarian dish but when I saw it I didn’t like the look of it so said I hadn’t ordered it and that was why both were on the bill!!! Eventually she took it off the bill but we left feeling very uncomfortable and disappointed and felt we never wanted to go back. We have just been back (to the shock of our family and friends and no doubt those of you who have read this) and had a lovely evening. To conclude. As much as they didn’t deserve our custom (not they would care less if we went or not) we were the ones missing out. I know I’m not the only person to complain about this ladies attitude and probably won’t be the last! She is very good when all is going well but clearly does not know how to deal with complaints in a professional manner. Such a shame!

A treat for valentines. No ambience or atmosphere, service was very poor. Not made to feel a valued customer. Food was average nothing special for the prices being charged. White wine was warm. A real shame, we are local to the pub and this has been a steady decline to a once fabulous food destination. The restaurant was not busy, all done by 9pm, didn't arrive until 7.45pm. Waitress spraying antibacterial on tables whilst eating!!
