I Tried here based on other reviews and were not disappointed. The service was friendly and quick and the food was fantastic, proper Yorkshire portions as well so would thoroughly recommend!!

We are staying in Boroughbridge for five nights and like to eat out most nights rather than eat in our hotel. We decided to give this place a try and so pleased we did. Because we eat early we had the early bird special menu and the food was plentiful and really tasty, one of the best Thai meals we have had. Ollie, (not his real name but much easier to say than his Thai name) one of the owners, was really nice and helpful, made us feel immediately at ease. The restaurant is nicely decorated and cosy, we would certainly recommend this place if you enjoy reasonably priced authentic Thai food, give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Called in here tonight, not been in for years. The old lad has died and his son now runs the place. I just had a pint of Blond, just as good as last time. It's great to still see pubs with character. I will be back! Thanks for a great pint.

3retired men on golf break looking for a few beers. Indifferent welcome - ordered 3 pints and told “we do not accept Scottish money and nobody in whole of Boroughbridge will take it. “ Most unhappy we left. ALL other places in town accepted our money with no question. Give it a miss there are much better pubs.

What a refreshing change to find a pub with no TV/Music/Bandits. We actually managed to talk to some real humans! We were made to feel very welcome by the Landlord and the Barmaid, and the beer was absolutely perfect. Nice conversations with some of the locals, a real fire to warm ourselves and even a bowl of water for the dog. Definitely a place I would recommend, set in a lovely peaceful village. We thoroughly enjoyed our week away Morag and Paul

A real Gem! Pleasantly surprised at how good this new restaurant at the Black Bull is. Good service, good staff and excellent Thai/Indonesian food! Very well cooked, fresh, tasty and well presented . We hadn't booked and just turned up and we're asked to wait 15mins for our table , so sat in the bar we happily sat on the bar with a drink. We were offered a roast choice of beef pork or chicken or a combination of all three which we opted for also choice of one or two Yorkshire puddings (there were other options). When the food arrived we realised why we were asked to wait - it was like it was cooked to order - not kept warm - crispy roast potatoes and yorkies - clean plates all round! Desserts equally excellent.. vanilla and raspberry cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding- delicious!

Visited the Black Bull Inn as we were in the area and was looking forward to eating here. We entered the bar just after 5pm and felt like we had interrupted something, as the looks we got made us feel a little uncomfortable. It was like walking into the Slaughtered Lamb in the film American Werewolf in London. We asked the barmaid if there was somewhere to sit for food and were told abruptly “No! we are not serving food” and she disappeared. She then popped up again and when asked if there was anywhere else she could recommend she asked a man who had now appeared His response was “What? Food? Round here? Not at this time!” Realising we were not getting anywhere we said thank you and left. But couldn’t help thinking as we left someone should have been shouting after us “ Stick to the roads stay off the moors. Beware the moon”

We enjoyed this traditional pub in the centre of town, with a nice relaxed quiet atmosphere, great ales and tasty food. The place is popular with locals (a good sign), and a pit stop off the A1 for England-Scotland travellers. There is an extensive menu, everything is made on the premises, and prices reasonable. There are fish specials every day, as well as pie of day, Thai dishes and other dishes such as venison steak. We enjoyed the garlic beef fillet followed by ice-cream, in the cozy back room, for about £16 each. The bar area is served through an old-fashioned hatch; real ales from a handpump, wines by the glass and over 20 malt whiskies. The décor is rather modest but any renovations should aim to preserve the charmingly quaint ambiance.

This is a quiet country pub situated in the middle of town. If you are looking for music being pumped out over loud speakers or banks of gaming machines, don't go, because you will be very, very disappointed. There was a steady trickle of locals having a pint but it was not busy, in fact the bar man was able to read his newspaper! We had a meal and bother decided on one the day's specials which was Barnsley Chop whic was very nice and came with chips and vegetables - nothing extravagent but very nice nevertheless and very reasonably priced. The decor could do with cheering up as it appears rather drab and it might want to celebrate the local area with some pictures or even some explanation of it's history as it bills itself as a 13th century inn. If it is that old there must be some history to the place especially with regard to the local area having several airfields during World War II.

We were staying at the Grantham Arms for our Wedding Anniversary and in the afternoon had a walk around Boroughbridge. We decided to call into the Black Bull for a drink. A proper old fashioned, traditional pub! It was quite busy when we walked in and all the customers were obviously local and knew each other. At first I worried that it could be one of those pubs where you worry about sitting down in case you are sat in a 'regular' customers seat, but once I'd had a few sips of my delicious Timothy Taylor's beer, I soon relaxed. The pub is split into several areas. The bar and snug are small but cosy and the the beer is served through a hatch type bar. The beer is really good and cheap too. Tony, who I am guessing is the Landlord is an older man who seemed like a traditional Landlord who really cares about the beer he serves. We decided to go back to eat here in the evening and I was surprised to find that Tony was still behind the bar. There is a restaurant for eating in and also another room at the back of the bar where we chose to sit. The restaurant looked quite large and formal in comparison to the rest of the pub. We both decided to have fish and chips. The meal was good value and tasty and served by a friendly waitress. If the pub hadn't been so busy we probably would have stayed much longer, but we worried that we could be taking up a table that people might want to sit at to eat. We would definitely visit again if we were to go to Boroughbridge.

We had been touring round in our caravan for three weeks and living mainly on barbecues and so we decided to eat out so that we could have some proper vegetables. We decided on meat pie with gravy and vegetables. The meat pie came out swimming in gravy (would have been better in a small jug) and we waited for the veg which when it appeared was some potatoes and ratatouille which did not go down well with the gravy, this spoilt what would otherwise have been a nice meal. Our friends had no problems with their meals which were very nice,

Wherever I eat out, I always assess a meal-regardless of the type or price- on this simple test. As a competent home cook, I ask, "Would I have been pleased to put this plate of food in front of my family?" The answer last Saturday was, ABSOLUTELY. 2 of our party had the gammon, one had the open beef sandwich and I had the pie (well I am from Barnsley!) Everything we were served was real, home cooked tasty food. We washed it all down with some of the best kept beer we had tasted for sometime. We have been to the Black Horse on a number of occasions so it was a natural choice to visit when new had some friends visiting. We were very disappointed and somewhat embarrassed by the experience. We had booked a table in the restaurant and we were the only ones in there. We were put on the table next to the double doors at the entrance to the restaurant section. These blew and rattled every time a door was opened somewhere else in the pub. The dining room, at that end, is next to the toilets and every time someone dried their hands we were treated to the noise of the hand dryer. I guess, with hindsight, we should have asked for another table but it is too much effort by the time you realise these problems. My starters were listed on the menu as crispy duck. What arrived were two bowls one of salad and one of what can only be described as duck stew, nothing crispy about it. The portion sizes are very generous, to the point where they are too big for the plate. The sizzling chicken dripped off the platter onto the table making a right old mess. Three sirloin steaks, one medium rare was not too bad, though not particularly flavour some. The two rare ones were found to be tough by both eaters, our guests. The waitress sat down at a table at the far end completing some paperwork, didn’t really add to the ambiance. Overall not a good experience at all and I wonder if there has been some staff turn over to effect this deterioration

Having a wander around Boroughbridge, we happened upon the Black Bull, a very old inn in the main street. Had a very satisfying couple of pints of real ale and a suprisingly well made snack of smoked bockwurst in ciabatta, whilst my wife had a cheese and tomato selection. Lovely small rooms in what is obviously a very little changed pub.

We popped in for a drink after a day out walking as it looked a lovely old pub. It is very quaint with small rooms inside and had a great old fashioned feel. Enjoyed a quick drink before we headed off but would stop for something to eat as well next time as the food looked good.

We spent one night here and that was one night too many! The meal was disgusting- very little home cooking. The bedroom was like a furnace and the window had to be propped open with a book. I had to send back my boiled eggs as they were raw. To charge £72 for the room was a joke. We stayed in several B&B's during this trip and the standard of this one was quite the worst and the same price. To get to the bedroom required going past the kitchens and the smell going up the stairs was rank. None of the sockets worked and there were no glasses provided in the room.I can't find one good thing to say about this place.Mary Barlow

Another great meal with my family to celebrate a birthday. Had a great sirloin steak and sizzling Duck, always a treat as it comes out of the kitchen.Staff very helpful as ever and went out of their way to accommodate a vegetarian alternative.Wine is good and very good value.A very pleasant evening for six of us. We love the real quality traditional table cloths and relaxed atmosphere with plenty of room. Thanks to Tony and the team .

Having walked by the river Ure with the dog we looked for a pub for lunch, the first one we came upon was the Black Bull a bit uninspired at first glance but they welcomed dogs. The locals said it was the best and cheapest pub in town. We had a warm chicken sandwich and toasted chiabata with tomato and mozzarella they both came with dressed salad and crisps, together with a good pint of John Smiths Cask. It was a really quaint old pub and if we were in town again would pop in for lunch.

We'd been in Halifax all day and hadn't had time to eat so took a detour off the main road on our way back to the North East. Boroughbridge had a few pubs or hotels that apparently sold meals so luckily after trying two first we found the Black Bull Inn. We love these type of places that have so much character the exact opposite of chain pubs. The bar is split into 3 small rooms one of which is the Snug, a great old fashioned pub room name. We ordered two meals, Christmas chicken goujons, chips and salad for me and mince and onion pie with onion gravy for my partner. The meals were lovely but maybes a little more costly than we pay usually. The staff were really pleasant and the beamed ceiling and copper bar top were characterful as well. A hidden little gem

Stopped here as it allowed overnights with Motorhomes if you buy food. The car park was almost full but I managed to squeeze my van onto a space. The staff were very friendly, the food was good, my rib eye steak was tough and dry (medium rare looked good but still tough) thankfully I had beef dripping as a sauce which was delicious, especially when the chips soaked it up. but everything else was really nice. The final bill £152 for 3x3 courses and drinks (3 ales, 2 wines 3 cokes) which I felt was on the slightly high side. I would happily return in the future.

Handy for a cuppa after work or during a shop. The cafe is situated in the simply food store and it’s clients are generally local. Good service and bright and airy cafe. Huge windows mean it gets very hot in sunny weather. No outside seating.

Unfortunately the Railway Inn is still closed with apparently no date for reopening. The Railway Inn is owned by Samuel Smith's brewery and no further information is available.

We chose here to eat while travelling 400 miles from Aberdeen to Wacton in our electric car. The food was good. The staff were friendly but service was slow. My wife had soup and I had a main. That took about 40-45 minutes. I then had to go and move the car. When I left we asked the staff if my wife could order a sweet. We explained we were rushing. When I can back she still hadn't got it. By the time she got it we had been there a good 1hr 15 min. Disappointing as no notice was taken of our polite indication we were rushing.
