Could not recommend this place highly enough. Expect a call from my friends Andy as they've heard all about you, your food, and your passion for greatness, this is by far the best amongst all the great restaurants in the area. Witney and the surrounding area is genuinely unbelievable for fantastic food and drink per square mile. I work all over Britain and nowhere comes close. But bird in hand is the jewel in the crown. Andy has taken all the experience possible from his career in michelin star restaurants and I'm sure it won't be long before this is one too. Please don't pass this place by or you'll never know what you have missed.

Fabulous food. Just sensational. Thoroughly enjoyed our Saturday night treat. Heartedly recommended.

This beautiful restaurant never fails to deliver a warm welcome followed by large portions of delicious food. The turkey breast, pie and scotch egg are highly recommended. Looking forward to returning soon.

My husband wanted to share his experience of staying at the Bird whilst he is working in Witney and I was not disappointed one bit.Tom, Harriett and their staff were amazing. They could not do enough to ensure our stay was nothing more that perfect, from welcoming us in to giving us tips of where to visit.The hotel rooms are spacious and well presented and the food was delicious- it was hard making a choice as the menus are well thought out and so much to choose from. Tom, thanks for getting Eric the monkey shoulder :) We will definitely be staying again.Thankyou for making our weekend memorable

The food is well prepared and beautifully served. There are the ‘normal’ dishes available but the daily specials are, indeed, special. The staff are friendly and very helpful and the chefs are very accommodating with special requests and needs. The winde list is great!!

Beautiful country hotel with exceptional comfortable ambiance. All the staff were welcoming, polite, helpful and friendly. The room was warm, clean, spacious and a lovely comfortable bed. Dinner was superb and everything that was being served to other tables looked as appetising as the food served to us. Breakfast was equally good and service at both meals was excellent.We don’t normally write reviews but we enjoyed everything about our short stay so much we felt compelled to compliment the Bird in HandWe understand that the chef owns the hotel along with his wife who is “front of house”. Well done to you and all your staff and next time we visit the Cotswolds or stop off on our way to, or from, Cornwall the Bird in Hand will be our first choice and, hopefully, for longer than one night.

Went for an impromptu dinner with my daughter and had the most delicious pork belly with lovely al dente vegetables followed by a treacle tart to die for with ginger cream - absolutely divine! A little pricier than where we would normally eat, but would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Huge thank you to the ladies and chef and the bird in hand for one of the best meals me & my partner have ever had. Food was ridiculously good, and the ladies who were our servers were great, happy, attentive and even gave some brilliant advice picking food. They were also really relaxed about a food allergy we had to accommodate whereby the chef was really happy to change the accompanying sauce for one of the main dishes which made us even more happy to be there. I would say the prices are relatively premium for food, but you will not be disappointed with the quality, flavour and portions. Thank you one again to the ladies and chef, we'll be back soon!

We were staying in a cottage at Currbridge and visited the restaurant 3 times during the week, as a result of a fabulous first night there. The food was amazing and served by very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. Each night there was a warm friendly ambience coupled with the ‘buzz’ of those enjoying their meals. We couldn’t have asked for anything more and rate the visit 5/5

Lovely country pub . Good size car park . We stayed for one night in the accomodation attached . The rooms were large , bedding was fabulous. Plenty of storage . We had lunch followed by a first class dinner in the evening. The covid procedures were excellent. Staff were so friendly and professional.We enjoyed a great breakfast , very tasty and a good choice. Would definitely return , close to quite a few Cotswold attractions .

We booked here to celebrate our wedding anniversary with our sons. The food was lovely, especially the scotch egg starter which was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend the steak and ale pie. I gave in to temptation and ordered dessert despite being full which was a delicious chocolate brownie with homemade marmalade ice cream. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. I look forward to my next visit.

Wanted somewhere special to celebrate a 60th wedding anniversary and the Bird in Hand was a great choice.Some of us had the Sunday roast which was lovely and some had the specials or from the menu.Everyone was very happy with their meals. We have never been disappointed when ever we have gone there.Julia and the team are so welcoming and they can’t do enough for you. Once again we highly recommend this restaurant.

Pleased we found this gem of a place, looking for a dog-friendly venue for Sunday lunch, which was served in the Bar (as we had my dog with us.) Excellent food and friendly service. Confit of tender duck and Fresh thick fillet of Sea Bas, were all merited. Will definitely visit again. Pleased they had soya milk for my veggie family member. We will definitely return, soon I hope.

We have just returned home from a staycation around Witney and Oxford. We were fortunate to get a table on Thursday evening. What a fantastic meal! My lambs liver was outstanding and my husband enjoyed his steak and ale pie immensely. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the venue is beautiful. We enjoyed our meal so much that we took our friends back the next evening. Our friend said his sirloin steak was cooked perfectly. They too thought the meal was awesome and excellent quality.

With the impact of COVID and a cancelled Spanish trip we headed to The Cotswolds for a staycation. Various gastropubs with rooms over a 7 night trip and we were fortunate to find The Bird in Hand near Witney.Out of all the places we stayed (many recommended in good food guides etc), this was the most amazing gastro experience! So good we returned twice in our 7-day trip and we will be returning again!Family-run, not a chain, it really shows - passionate, attentive and incredible service! Rooms are great.We live 3 hours away but now we have found this gem we will he making it a regular weekend visit!Can’t recommend it highly enough!

Booked a table for an evening meal, the menu choice was good and the food was even better. Had the filet steak cooked perfect, service was fantastic, will be back.

My husband booked the bird in hand for a couple of nights for my birthday. The accommodation is spotless and nicely furnished, the restaurant serves delicious food and the staff are amazing, a wonderful break away

Had a fantastic lunch with my son on Saturday. The food was excellent as was the service, I will definitely go again the next time I visit the area.

Quite a day on Friday, 'er indoors had her hair done, it was our anniversary and rounded off with an evening meal at the Bird in Hand, our first post lockdown venture out.It was great to be back. A fabulously warm welcome on our arrival, everything Covid friendly and without distracting from the fabulous atmosphere of the place.The service was as friendly, professional and efficient as ever.As expected, the menu was restricted (Julia had already told us this when we booked) but the choices were well balanced. What we had was nothing less than outstanding and certainly worth mentioning: We had the Stilton Mushroom and the Chicken Pate to start with the latter accompanied by an amazing ginger chutney. We followed with the Goats Cheese and Red Pepper Tart and the Loin of Pork both perfectly cooked and finished with a huge portion of Eaton Mess and a Vanilla Ice Cream with Espresso.When I asked that our compliments were passed on to the chef and in particular mentioning the ginger chutney, our waitress returned from the kitchen with a bowl of it for us to take home! So, from us, a massive thank you to everyone at the Bird, it was wonderful to be back. See you again very soon.

I was intrigued by the fact that this place has raving reviews on 3 different platforms.Well rightfully so. From the ambiance to the food this is an unpretentious but yet very curated place. The staff is is welcoming and competent. Seasonal menu with daily specials; everything skilfully executed. We would drive 1:30 just to eat there again.

First post lockdown meal and what a choice. The restaurant was “covid friendly” with all the necessary adjustments made but done so professionally it didn’t distract from the dining experience. Great friendly service from all staff from moment we got their till we left. Exceptional food as always (the pie is awesome!). So pleased to see them back open.

We have eaten at the Bird in Hand many times and have never been disappointed with the menu, specials, wine list or attentiveness of the staff.

All the food that comes from the kitchen is of the highest quality, cooked with fresh local ingredients

What a find. Lovely hotel with a great sized room. Exceptionally clean. Our only negative comment is that we were in room 3 and were subjected to an 6am noisy delivery to the kitchen which woke us up on Saturday morning. The restaurant was second to none with attentive staff along with a brilliant menu. Would certainly return but would request a room away from the kitchen.

We came here on a stop off to Bath just so happened to be valentine night, the staff squeezed us in and glad they did fantastic food and lovely staff and really nice owners. We have been made very welcome and have enjoyed our stay rooms are comfortable and quiet and breakfast was filling and as lovely as the evening meal, well done everyone at the Bird 100% recommend Just to add we both had steak and both were cooked to perfection and the Thai prawns & mussels were divine

We have eaten at The Bird in Hand several times but I've never got around to writing a review. Every time we eat here the service has been fantastic. The staff are all so friendly and efficient. The food is always delicious, the only downside of the large portions is that you don't always have room for the lovely desserts. I'm looking forward to finding an excuse to visit again soon.

Absolutely sickened the by the service received from the staff at the bird. I regularly drink at this pub, and we have had many family dos at this pub. - we recently booked my fathers 60th party for 23 people in the private room, this was no problem at the time but one week before we take a phone to call to say they can no longer accommodate. Make sure you check your booking or just book elsewhere because we will be spreading the word around Oxfordshire.

We had visited the BinH under previous ownership but only to eat. It was OK. When we needed accommodation near Witney we visited again. The place has been transformed. Our room was better than many hotels. Well appointed. Warm. Plenty of hot water. Service in the pub/restaurant was first rate. The food was good. Breakfast was excellent. They were very accommodating when we needed a space for a family meeting. Good location for a Cotswold break.

Highly recommended! We had a lovely meal for a group of 30 people. The quality of the food was wonderful, combined with great service and warm friendly atmosphere.

Don't usually leave reviews but thought this place deserved it. came here with friends a week ago and loved everything about it. Great meal ( had the steak and was perfectly cooked) friends had a mixture of other things and everyone was happy and loved their meals. Will be going back when we're in the area. We ate here on Friday evening. The food , wine and Cotswold whiskey 🤣🙄, were absolutely superb. The service was amazing and love the winter outfits girls. Thank you for a wonderful evening x

What a lovely place. I had the pie my partner had the lamb. Two alcoholic drinks and two desserts came to £66 well worth it. Would have paid more. Service was more than excellent.

Excellent in every way, this was our first trip away with our dog and we loved it, food was brilliant, we had breakfast and evening meal, couldn't fault either the food or the service, the staff were great, really made you feel special and made such a fuss of our dog, which he loved!! Accomodation was first class, lovely and clean and plenty of tea/coffee biscuits, will definately be visiting again, loved it!! Thank you!!

A couple of weeks back, four of us came for lunch on a Saturday. We ate off the regular menu. Very friendly and attentive staff, the service was fantastic and the food was superb. Three of us had the pie, wow, and what a pie it is, it's huge and stuffed full of large chunks of meat. Highly recommended.

The staff were lovely and the place was clean. The main reason I am writing this review is I had the steak burger and it was absolutely amazing! Best burger I have ever eaten without a doubt! I let some of my family members have a bite of it and they were gutted they didn’t pick it! Will definitely be back and recommending it to my friends.

I came here for my birthday and my parents wedding anniversary and we couldn’t have picked a better restaurant. The food and wine was amazing. I had the beef wellington which was perfectly cooked and the gravy was so rich and delicious. The puddings were yummy and the staff were so friendly. Definitely coming back here again!

We were in Blenheim for the Bentley Cars centenary and spent the Saturday night in this great pub, restaurant,hotel. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff friendly and super efficient, the chef introduced herself and helped with our orders. The food was delicious and plentiful,as was the wine. We slept like logs in our modern comfy room. Can’t wait to return next year.

Back to The Bird where the service and welcome is always good. However the menu changes very little over the year and as The Bird is used by lots of locals a change in would be very welcome! There are good specials the latest being Monkfish in a red pepper sauce with ratatouille and roasted sweet potato which we went for because of the same main menu. However these specials are pricey (£25 for the Monkfish). Please make a make a change the Mushroom starter has been around for a long time. Thank you!

Stayed here on the night of Thursday 27th of June after slightly over expecting my capacity to make it back to the North from Southern Brittany....

This reminds me of an old joke. Customer says to the waitress I have 2 complaints. The first complaint is the food taste like sh*t. The waitress says sorry whats your other complaint. Why such small portions.

This really is an exceptional restaurant in Oxfordshire, I was looking for a restaurant that showcased superb English food as my friend was visiting from Malaysia so that she could experience our food at its best in a lovely setting. For starter was a Scotch Egg with Bloody Mary Sauce (A MUST TRY) followed by two mains, The Steak Pie & Rolled Pork with filled black pudding with Apple & raspberry crumble and custard. The food was excellent and so flavoursome and friendly service. A very big thank you to all staff involved you showcased English food so so well. Worth a 6 STAR REVIEW ****** An English Food Masterclass.

Delicious food with excellent service in very friendly atmosphere. The Sunday lunch menu was very good value for money with plenty of vegetables and choice of meats.

I visited Bird in Hand with friends and we arrived at the end of the lunch rush; the restaurant was busy, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was good.

A couple of friends, my children and I had Sunday roast at the bird in hand today. The roast itself was lovely (although roast potatoes weren't the best) and the vegetables and cauliflower cheese were a big plus. Staff started out being very attentive, however towards the end of our visit it was as if the staff had given up and we had to wait a long for our plates to be cleared, asked about puddings, bill etc. I actually even heard one waitress moaning about wanting to go home.

Three of us met up for a working lunch. Welcome and service were first class. We all had steaks which were a good size and cooked to perfection. If in the area again we shall return!

Because her own children are entertaining her on the actual Mothering Sunday, my daughter took me and her father to a celebration meal at the Bird in Hand. We found a wide choice of dishes and ours was well presented, very tasty and we felt It was reasonable value for money. More than likely to pay it another visit.

Cozy atmosphere, great service and excellent food in a traditional setting. Dishes are very elegantly presented and the restaurant offer an ample choice of plates including some very healthy options. Will definitely return!

We haven’t been here for a few years but after seeing the reviews decided to give it another try. Welcoming and friendly staff found us a table and the good service continued all night. The menu was not huge, which is a good thing. I had duck pate to start which was beautiful though a little more bread would have been good and a little garnish, my husband had the prawns which he said were lovely. We both had chicken to start and again was lovely. We would thoroughly recommend the place and met some lovely people. We will definitely go back.

Any restaurant that serves foie gras, a food that is produced by such barbaric practices that it is illegal to produce in this country is best avoided.

This was so Unexpected; the lunch menu on line looked a bit limiting but when we arrived there were specials on the board and a second evening menu on offer. We hadn’t eaten here before but decided that the reviews were so good we would try it...OMG what a delight!

This is our 3rd visit to The Bird in Hand, I must say I absolutely love it, the food, the service, the accommodation and atmosphere are ALL top class, we will be back again, this time we brought the in laws with us and they loved it too, nothing was too much trouble for our little party, well done to all at the Bird.

Have visited the bird in hand twice this month. The first was for a hungover Sunday roast. We hadn't booked but luckily they squeezed us in. So very glad they did. The front of house welcome by Tom and Harriet was very friendly. A really good drinks selection got the afternoon going.

We visited the Bird in Hand yesterday, October 5th, as we were staying the night locally. We hadn't booked ahead and soon realised this was a must for dinner at the weekend! We were advised of an hour to an hour and half wait for a table. We were more than happy with this, and had drinks outside. After about 50 minutes, we were becoming so hungry and asked whether we could have our dinner outside as it was still surprisingly mild enough! The staff were very accommodating and our mains soon arrived.

Not been for a while and it seems the new owners have done an outstanding job in bringing an excellent menu and friendly atmosphere to the forefront of what makes the bird in hand outstanding.

Quality gastropub (starters £9, mains typically £18-22, desserts £7.75 all excl service). But well worth it. The steak was perfectly cooked and warm. Food came quickly even though pub was busy Flavoursome desserts.

This restaurant seems to get better and better on every visit.

This lived up to all the 5 star reviews. Spacious, nicely decorated and very clean bedroo; comfy bed; fab food ( both breakfast and dinner -the steak was gorgeous); and above all delightful staff. What's not to like, hope we have a reason to stop by again soon!

Booked for locality, quiet area but fairly central for visits to the tourist places in the Cotswolds. For a relatively small establishment (16 rooms) it’s superb. Well run, efficiently managed and great staff. It’s more biased towards accommodation and the restaurant rather than a drinking establishment, which suited us. Also dog friendly which is a bonus. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Called in for sunday lunch and despite being very busy with several tables with 12 or more we were quickly found a table for two, the last I think. and from then on we were served promptly and the food was excellent. Nice atmosphere too

Outstanding!! Can't fault ths place (except the price of drinks but this is Oxfordshire). Rooms very clean & smart, evening meal excellent (steaks, sea bass) Breakfast - great variety, all very good. And all staff are a credit to this lovely country inn.

Very comfortable room in quiet countryside surroundings. The young staff were all very friendly and helpful. The meals were delicious. We stayed for 2 nights and will definitely return!

The Bird in Hand offers excellent food. A great choice with a fixed menu and specials and the wine list has some fabulous wines. A great place to celebrate a special occasion.

Full English breakfast is included with the room. We had two wonderful dinners here and although the hotel is a little out of the way, the restaurant was full every night...even arriving by taxi! Highly recomment this restaurant!

The choice on the menu was large, varied and interesting - enough to have some trouble in choosing, and the food when is came was delicious. The starter was served quickly - always good for hungry people, and the rest of the courses were nicely paced and relaxed. The staff were very helpful, relaxed and cheerful. We were there for lunch but the full main menu was available giving us plenty of choice. I was impressed by the flexibility - two of our party wanted a main split in two so that they could have it as a starter - No problem! We were a party of seven plus a baby and we found that there was plenty of space and there was a nice quaint relaxing atmosphere. Another bonus is that there is plenty of parking. Thank you Bird in Hand staff for a great time!

We visited this pub on a Saturday night for our anniversary having booked. It was good to see a large car park with plenty of space for once. When we arrived the staff were welcoming and there was a fantastic atmosphere without being too loud. We were given menus and were told what was on the specials board. The service was attentive and staff very pleasant throughout. The meal was excellent and my slow cooked shoulder of lamb was out of this world. In fact all our dishes were excellent. It is certainly a place we will be visiting again and on leaving the staff behind the bar gave us a happy wave. Certainly cannot fault it.

We stayed for one night with diner and breakfast. Both pretty good with friendly service. The room was clean and comfortable. conveniently close to Oxford and Blenheim castle.

What a super stay we had at the Bird in hand. The room was quiet, large, newly and tastefully decorated. All the rooms are in cotswold stone round a courtyard. The food is excellent and the staff are helpful and pleasant. We stayed while visiting Bleinheim palace which is about 15 minutes drive away.

A fantastic atmosphere! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff on hand to help with all needs. Outstanding food that is clearly top quality produce. I can’t fault it or recommend it enough!

We have just spent another great stay at the hotel. Have been here several times, love the new décor, bed was so comfortable, as we only had breakfast I can say it was very good, lovely friendly staff thank you all

We came here for a double birthday visit ,it was our usual haunt up to nine years ago ,,although the interior is much the same as it was albeit very clean and nicely laid out.it is a nice place to eat,staff are very helpful and willing to please. The food is also very good, prices in mid range..dAltogether a cosy and pleasant experience.hopefully will revisit in near future when in the arsenal again.

My wife booked the bird in hand for my 50th birthday surprise! We were a party of 10 adults and 2 children plus 2 dogs. From the moment we arrived it was the perfect experience, enthusiastic friendly staff. Cosy bar, excellent beer and food.
