The wind and rain was heavy so we took refuge here for hot chocolates and a sit down. Considering this place is affiliated with Norman Cook, it was a surprise to find it looking shabby and tired. There were artistic references to FatBoy Slim but it seemed like an afterthought rather than at the forefront. Disappointing however, the hot chocolate was decent enough. Probably better in the height of summertime.

Our first visit to the big beach cafe , ordered 4 x meals and round of drinks , sadly mistake was made , the food was left outside to be collected by us and we were sitting inside waiting , by the time we had realised food was cold . Spoke to ‘Ant’ who kindly offered us a full refund or full replacement , top class in resolving issue , we agreed to having part food re cooked plus part refund , but Ant went over the top and gave us all 4 free drinks too , incl. two alcoholic ! Fantastic service , fantastic food and almost felt guilty we complained , 100% will be returning , thank you very much

Hot drinks were very milky and tasteless. Sugar wasn’t brought with drinks, and when it arrived we still had to ask for a spoon to stir. Food was well presented, but rather bland. Cutlery wasn’t brought with food. The pink haired server was an absolute delight though, she’s the reason I’m not giving this place a 1 star review. The other lady kind of seemed a little overwhelmed, but it was quite a busy morning so I can’t blame her for that. All in all, I probably wouldn’t recommend Big Beach Café to foodies or people who like tasty hot beverages.

Poor attitude from barista. Food was great, just shame about the poor service and COVID rules not clear. Kids running around and nothing was said. No signs about whether it was table service or if you had to go to the bar to order. Very poor. Would not visit again.

We had an excellent meal. I had fish & chips and a beer, while my wife had a smoked salmon bagel and a large glass of wine. The quality was very good. Service was friendly. The fish was so hot I nearly burned my mouth. Very impressive for the price. We sat outside on benches and could easily socially distanced, although the seagulls had to be watched! However, had we not read TA in advance, we would have walked by. It looks shabby and uninspiring. The menu outside is incomplete - you need to look at the website. They clearly try to offer good quality food without frills at an affordable price - and they succeed.

Really disappointing. Cafe looked good - community vibe, supporting fundraising sleep out for homeless charity, other people’s kids and dogs obviously welcome - but lunch was appalling! Calamari was over cooked and crunchy and I wasn’t even sure all the pieces had ever met a squid. And I had to remind the waitress I’d paid for a side salad. Good location. Good community ethos. Poor food.

We had two vegan breakfasts yesterday morning and we were so pleasantly surprised!! The portions were really generous, but more importantly the food was AMAZING! Because we didn't want eggs, the waitress offered to swap the eggs for avocado for free (which never happens anywhere else they always charge extra!). I really cannot recommend this place highly enough. My favourite vegan breakfast in Brighton so far! The staff are also really friendly and lovely - nothing was too much trouble. (Also they give out sausages for dogs which is a really nice touch - our dogs love it here!!)

This beach side cafe is sited next to the 'Hove Lagoon', a largish sail boating, boarding, paddleboat lagoon, staffed by rather indifferent folk.... but there if you fancy getting wet! There is a fabulous shallow pool for the little guys adjacent to the cafe (free access) with a park of swings and slides.... and more expensive trampolines / jumping castles / and adult outdoor gym! All fenced in for safety and populated by 'many' mums who can abandon their kids to the joy of being a kid! The cafe offers typical beachside fare as well as tea/ coffee /cold drinks and ices. Staff appear to be somewhat overworked and are not as cheery as they could be to make the experience memorable, but they probably deal with a myriad of folks on sunny days. Well worth a visit if you have toddlers.....

I visited here earlier today with my three children, two friends and their three children (2 preschoolers and 1 baby) We . had planned to have a picnic outside but the heavens opened and I was soaked through (the others were just damp but I used my coat to ensure my baby's legs stayed dry). I can't really comment on the food but the female manager was so kind. Coming towards the end if my maternity leave with money very tight I had enough money for a tea but not much else. My friend ordered cheesey chips (which were nice) and a hot drink and my other friend just ordered a hot drink. I asked if she'd mind if I fed my children their lunch and she said as it was quiet and there was still a couple of spare tables that would be ok and she thanked me for asking. We were very grateful, especially due to the weather. The cafe rather than use every bit of space to cram tables in has a little children's play area with toy kitchen, a few toys and some books which entertained our gaggle for the time we were there. It is also dog-friendly and there were quite a few in. I was really struck by and appreciative of the manager's kindness and enjoyed the light and space and most importantly the children's play area.

I met my friend here - on a Sunday morning - a couple of months ago and we had a lovely time, when we were served by a lovely polite Italian (I think) man who couldn't do enough for us. So, repeating our visit on another Sunday morning (week before last), I was shocked to be greeted by an extremely surly individual (having expected the same happy and polite customer service as last time). The guy who served us on this 2nd occasion was rude, did not smile and made it plain that he really couldn't be bothered with us. The only reason we didn't get up and walk out was that the weather wasn't great and my dog needed a rest! And we had ordered bacon baps that we had to wait for... I wouldn't normally have commented on this (life is too short lol) but after the great customer service on the 1st occasion, this visit was very annoying and we both agreed we would be reluctant to go back. Hence the title of this review - Such A Shame! PS: They give free sausages to dogs if you ask, so that's a major PLUS - a delighful place if you don't get grumpy service.

What a shocker. This morning at 11am this was a scene of total chaos. Everything was wrong, nothing was right. It took 45 minutes from order to table and what was eventually served was just awful. Cold food, sliced under toasted basic bread, butter in a foil sachet, orange juice in a carton, eggs described as poached which actually were hard boiled. £45 for 4 people for four breakfasts with coffee and words cannot describe how poor the offer is. The worst aspect of the whole experience was that those serving this shocking offer gave the impression that they felt it was good. It was not.

I've been visiting the Big Beach Cafe for a while now and the reasons are simple. Whatever daily issues you have in life you can leave at the door, chill for a bit in relaxed surroundings, and then be stronger as you leave. It's like having fun in your own space but having so like minded people sitting around you. The food and drinks are great, the service is off the scale (up to 11) and the surroundings of the Hove Lagoon (especially on a good day) are awesone. Give it a try! You might even see Norman ;)

Great cafe for a tasty, breakfast or lunch. Many dietary requirements catered for so tasty cakes for vegans too! Plus often homemade soups and other chef’s daily specials, along with the usual affair. My personal favourites are the Bagel Man’s bagel with a generous filling of Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese or a bite sized Danish pastry or chocolate croissant when you just want something sweet to accompany your coffee.

I was on the look out for a suitable venue for a big party for my wife's 40th Birthday in November. We visit the Big Beach Cafe quite regulary with our kids at weekends/holidays for a drink and food and always find the staff friendly and welcoming so I contacted them back in August about hiring the venue for an evening party and spoke to Jamie who was very helpful and talked me through how they set the venue up for parties. His enthusiasm about the proposed event filled me with confidence and I decided to book and paid a deposit. We then met before hand to chat about plans and Jamie offered some good advice. There was the option of food to be laid on but we decided to just go for a few welcome drinks which worked out well.

Jamie, Des, Sergio and the team were all amazing, flexible, helpful and friendly. The booking journey and organisation pre-party was all seamless and stress free. Jamie allowed us to bring our own cheese boards which made a big difference. My mistake was to not be clear on the vodka welcome drinks portioning which we added to with our homemade lemoncella, they came out too weak. Also, the Cafe should order extra glasses for parties as not fair for guests to pay for glass hire at a party events venue.

We visited Big Beach cafe on a bright but chilly Saturday morning. We ordered the big beach breakfast plus coffees and water and were asked if we were eating inside which we were. I was given a drink of water in a plastic cup which I asked to be switched for a glass, it was. The coffee was served in a disposable cup so I asked for a China one. Mysteriously it was poured from the cup into a big mug rather than into the nice coffee cups in top of the coffee machine. They appear to be there just for show. Our breakfast was not big, one sausage which was luke warm; very good but not very hot bacon; super poached egg; a few beans and two hash browns; half a tomato and a dessert spoon of mushrooms. Also we were served just two slices of toast on one plate between us - seemed a bit mean. But our main issue apart from the small not very hot breakfast was the disposable items. For a cafe right next to the beach with increasing awareness and concern about the effect of rubbish on our ocean and landfill why is this cafe not using washable crockery as its default ?

I've always like the Big beach cafe but the breakfast was oddly confused. Good quality bacon and sausages with cheap tasting thin sauce beans. One persons egg was over cooked another was under cooked. You get one piece of toast with one tiny pat of butter so it doesn't reach the edges. The beans were cold, the sausage was too small. The bacon was nice as were the mushrooms. You have to buy drinks separately which means a full English and cuppa comes to over £8.00. The ketchup was also thin and vinegary. For the price either do a really good quality breakfast all round or do it cheaper. Other local cafes are cheaper and preferable. Will still go here for tea and cakes but never for breakfast again.

Food OK but nothing special and there are far better places for breakfast along the Prom into Brighton. We sat outside athe front on the suposed grassy area. This is the basis of my main gripe. The grass was non-existent in some areas but by the benches and other areas had clearly not been cut for weeks. Lying in the long grass was discarded food.Clearly grass is not a sustainable surface for a high traffic area and should be replaced by a surface that is both easy to maintain and willl allow the clearing of dropped food.Sorry but needs far better maintenance.

The food was great, the staff friendly and even though it was busy they were happy to have adults, kids, babies and dogs every where. Best part for the dogs were the delicious sausages they were given. Great place, great location and a little gem.

Wow, what a transformation. I've been going to this cafė for brunch for several years now, the quality of the food has been consistently top quality and really affordable. From what I saw this week, there's been a staffing change, which is significantly apparent! A transformation.Awesome food, service and generally positive space.Love this place

Had a couple of good burgers, a beer and two kids' meals, and a couple of coffees and cakes all for £32. I think that's not bad for Brighton & Hove. Certainly spent more elsewhere. Coffees and cakes in particular were very good. Service was fine, the sun shone and outside was a nice place to be. We will be coming back again! My only suggestion- let's have some big beach tunes playing!Ps read some other reviews and saw some moans about the number of kids. It's right next to a big playground (so great for families) - what do people expect?!!

Took the kids to the cafe and playground... Great fun had by all, the playground and paddling pool used to be rubbish but these guys have turned it all around, a nice clean pool area and new structures in the playground, had breakfast in the cafe. Was awesome could not complain.. Well worth it, and friendly staff too..

Just made our first visit to the Big Beach Cafe (despite the fact that we are in Brighton many times during the football season ) and we will definitely be making more visits. Wonderfully friendly staff and and real family feel to the place. A genuine seaside cafe with exceptionally good food and a very decent pint of draught Heineken.Highly recommended.

The best breakfast in the area. Friendly staff and very welcoming. Even gave my dog a sausage..! Outside there is lots to do for the kids and lots of outside seating space.

After the first visit, I knew we would be regulars. You can get,at very attractive prices, the following: a huge range of drinks, home cooked snacks, sandwiches, massive cakes, tiny cakes, breakfast, big meals and the most incredible ice creams. Is this place subsidised? They make others look lame, that's for sure. It is also friendly, informal and VERY Brighton while being spotless.I see me and my family going there every week.

I was about to give them 4 stars as they only serve breakfast till a certain time... Then I remembered they cooked one especially for my husband, for that they get an extra star. We come here a couple of times a months, sometimes just for coffee others to have food. Mostly we have breakfasts ( my husband has the big breakfast for £8.50) but I've also had a lovely salad in the past.Maybe we have been lucky but the food has been spot on every time and never a long wait.

I booked the Cafe for my 50th in this month. The new manager and her staff couldn't have been more helpful - and really looked after us. The whole process of booking was easy and they were very accommodating. We supplied our own PA and lights, and they let have access early to get set up. Absolute stars! On the night the bar staff were friendly and efficient (and we worked them pretty hard!). The doorman was polite and helpful - he dealt with some efforts to gatecrash without any drama. It's hard to find an affordable venue, that's large enough, with a nice layout and with reasonable bar prices in Brighton. It's usually a case of 'pick any two'!My friends on the night, many from out of town, were very impressed. They thought it was a great little venue. I can't thank Jayne and her team enough for helping make my 50th something special. If you are considering it for your birthday celebration or event it is well worth giving them a call and going and having a look.During the planning I hung out at the Cafe quite regularly, I thought it was pretty good value. It's bound to be full of kids, there is a playground next door! I think in Brighton and Hove some folk are just too hard to please. We forget how lucky we are....

Friends and I pop in here frequently. Friendly, efficient staff; very good coffee; tasty, affordable snack/lunch/breakfasts. It's a beach cafe and doesn't pretend to be any different. Yes, a couple of years ago there were issues but that's all in the past.

I have been coming to the Big Beach since it opened.I know everyone has the right to say what they want but to leave a poor review for this place is just not fair 1...The food is excellent value for money and the breakfast is not cheap bacon or sausages, really nice.2...The decor is retro and clean, nothing dirty about this place3...The staff are all very friendly and helpful.Danny who overlooks the running of the Big Beach is one of the nicest guys you could meet and if he felt you were not being treated politely he would be mortified.4...The big draw for me is to be able to walk my dog and meet friends with our dogs for breakfast, lunch,or just a drink. If your dog is allowed a sausage just ask as they have a treat FREE for your dog 5...This place is the heart of the Hove seafront and Lagoon and deserves to be praised for welcoming locals like myself and visitors to this very special place.I have given you my honest and heartfelt review of The Big Beach Cafe. Try it and see for yourself.John and James Hove x

Went there today with the grandchildren. Wonderful staff very helpful with the youngsters even though they were so busy. Nothing seemed to be enough trouble. The food was excellent and well priced and we did not wait long to be served. Lovely to sit outside and safe for the children to run around. Well done we will certainly make this a regular venue.

We visited this cafe a few days ago, on a sunny day in the school holidays, and guess what? It was packed (outside). Not surprising as the cafe is next to the play park, skate park and watersports centre as well as the beach!Between us we had burgers, sausages and fish goujons - all with chips - and everything was tasty and eaten. The staff were pleasant and helpful. So all good!

Quick service by polite staff. Food was poor however: My Havana Heatwave Burger was overcooked and chewy, my wife’s barbecue chicken was dry and rubbery, and they seemed to have tried to offset this by it swimming in bareque sauce, which didn’t work. Last time I ate here it was Ok, but on the strength of this meal, we won’t return.

Ir a manzana! ! !

I recently visited Lost Boys Chicken, and let me tell you, the only thing "lost" about this place was the chicken. I ordered the large portion for £16, thinking I was in for a feast, but what I got was more like a wing-shaped teaser. These wings were so tiny, I started to wonder if the chicken had been on a strict diet—like, a chicken cleanse, or maybe just skipping leg day. The “Wendy” sauce, though? Now that was decent, like a soft apology from the kitchen for the sad, skeletal wings that arrived. But the size of the chicken? It was so disappointing, I could have sworn I was eating a chicken wing in a magic trick where the chicken just… vanished. I’ve just returned from India, where I had street food that made my stomach do flips, but also gave me food poisoning (great times!). I’ll say this: the street food there had more chicken, and the chicken might’ve been washed with someone's feet, but at least it felt like a full meal. In comparison, this was more like a starter at a fancy restaurant where you leave still hungry and with regrets. If Lost Boys Chicken swapped to thighs or maybe just grew their wings a little, they could actually have something here. For now, it’s just a place where sauce gets more attention than the chicken. Shame, because that sauce was decent. But alas, I won’t be winging my way back anytime soon.

Very busy, popular pub. Great place to meet up with mates. Food excellent as nearly always with Wetherspoons. Toilets clean and modern (bit of a sticky floor in the gents, needed a good scrub with the m ob and decent floor cleaner) Friday and Saturday night visits, but no security issues staff and security in control. Reassuring. Service via app very quick and efficient.
