Can’t complain about staff they were brilliant, but the food was not worth the money, we had Yorkshire rarebit £17.95 It tasted like the bread had just been flattened and pressed into a small flat bowl topped with loads of cheese and stuck under a grill which the bread felt very hard to cut and quite solid it was topped with 3 half cherry tomatoes and a salad leaf (one) Not impressed We had come for the experience decided not to have the cakes as didn’t want to spend anymore money It’s not hard to make cheese on toast should of been better

Had been bought 2 x £30 gift vouchers so decided to use them in the Ilkley cafe Unusually there was no queue outside so we managed to get seated within 10 minutes. The atmosphere is buzzing, as I remember it pre-covid. Waitresses are attentive. Food is expensive for what you get but delicious. 2 x tea, 1 x coffee, 1 Prawn and salmon sandwich, side of Rosties, 1 x quiche and salad and 1 x fruit tart. £59.95. The lunch was marred upon taking the vouchers out of the wallet they came in to pay the bill. They are tucked in so you can just see their value on the front...no mention of any wording being on the reverse. To my embarrassment- 1 x £30 had expired.. There is an expiry date of 18 months on the back. These were bought for me for online and there is no mention to remove the vouchers and check terms and conditions on the reverse of the vouchers. Granted the voucher was 2 years old but they used to be valid indefinitely pre covid. The wsitress was apologetic but couldn't do anything. We paid the additional £30 and left. An email to customer services yielded a firm "nothing can be done ..they have expired." What a waste of hard-earned money for the buyer of my vouchers and money in the coffers for doing nothing for Bettys. Shame on you. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED... check the wording on the back of your gift voucher..they are now only valid 18 months from date of purchase.

We always visit Bettys when we go to ilkley and have never been disappointed yet. We had the quiche, a ham sandwich and delicious cakes, enjoyed it all. I especially love their lemon & ginger tea. Our experience was dampened by an obviously tired waitress, but thankfully the fabulous Adam saved the day, Bettys, he is an asset to your business.

Called in this morning, after visiting the antiques fair. We usually eat at Bettys, when in Ilkley. We had a short wait for a table, & when seated we were served by a very helpful, & polite waitress, called Ruby, who answered my wifes questions, fully, & without any fuss, we ordered our food, & as usual, there is a bit of a wait, but today seemed to be a bit longer than usual, not sure why, because they weren`t very busy. As usual, the food, when it came was quality, the plates were hot, one of my pet hates is hot food on cold plates. Everything was delicious & we left very satisfied.

We went there for breakfast I thought it was over priced the full English breakfast we could have had much better elsewhere and much cheaper it was served with scrambled egg no option suggested the scrambled egg was the worst my husband had ever tasted speciality coffees at £5.95 a cup too expensive not even full cups will we go again certainly not. On the positive side the service was excellent pity the food fell short of our expectations

Atmosphere is good and staff very pleasant We went for a lunch as special treat. We had florentine Rosti which we have had before and really enjoyed. Unfortunately this time it was not very good. It was a big pile of cold undercooked tasteless grated potato. A blob of frozen spinach and a mushroom that you could not get a knife through. The egg was the only good thing. It was apparent that the food was not very fresh and definitely not good value. We have been to all the Bettys for many years but the quality of food is not as good as it used to be. It’s so very expensive too.

A bit expensive for what you get, but the food was very good and decent size portions, Betty's is known for its teas, but it certainly won't be remembered for its coffee, ordered two latte's at the expensive price of £4.95 each, it was a small cup, which was only half full of liquid, the other half being froth and to top that it was only lukewarm, even though we asked for extra hot. They need to pop in to Bean Loved in Skipton, they will show you how to make a latte. It also took three attempts to get a glass of water, from three different waitresses, so in my opinion, only small issues, but these are basic things they should get right, just took the shine off a nice meal out.

Very nice and upmarket experience. Always a longish queue whenever you go. Waitresses in Victorian attire. Delicious lunch in an old-fashioned genteel way. Nice shop though which one gets to the cafe. Wide variety of goodies can be bought in the shop. We stocked up on several delicious treats which we gave as gifts and also tried for the next few day. Their Florentines are to die for, as are their macaroons. Only gripe: they don't stay open until later (close at 5pm).Highly recommended.

Betty's is so popular that you almost always have to queue BUT they manage their queues very professionaly. Walking through a baker's shop brimming over with wonderful bread and scrumptious cakes you arrive into a surprisingly large restaurant, carefully planned seating and tasteful decor. The menu covers most tastes and hunger stages. We both chose a 'hot' dish and some fries. The service was a little on the slow side even considering the restaurant was full. The food was fine but the chips were under cooked and cold. We sent them back and, with apologies, fresh fries were provided. While my friend's appetite didn't match mine I just could not resist the Black Forest Trifle which was delicious. They deducted the price for the fries.

Delicious as always, however… I was served by an older gentleman if you can call him that, the short time being served by him tarnished my experience that day. Compared to the other staff (women) who were working on that day who were lovely, friendly and greeted the guests with a smile, this individual met my each request with a high level of unprofessionalism and lack of respect. When asking about a product, I was met with a condescending statement as if I should already know the answer. Giving him the benefit of the doubt I told myself maybe he was having personal problems but after catching up with my partner and family they said they’ve experienced similar issues with this individual.

The vegan breakfast was nice-all homemade, and coffee was good too. The attention to detail is brilliant, exactly the reason to come here, service was a little slow but otherwise great. Having walked out of another cafe in Ilkley because they were unable to reassure us that they could safely accommodate food allergies, we walked round the corner and noticed the queue was short at Betty’s and as we’ve wanted to take our family there for some time, we were happy to join the queue. We were immediately greeted by a professional friendly member of staff who brought us menus to peruse while we waited. Once we got into the cafe, the atmosphere was wonderful and calm, like something from a bygone era. The service and food was absolutely faultless. The staff went out of their way to accommodate the member of our party with food allergies - they were so careful and nothing was too much trouble. Worth paying that bit extra for service like this; other cafes can make allergy sufferers feel like it’s their fault they have an allergy. Our friend has even been asked to sign forms in cafes to say that if she has a reaction to their food, the cafe will take no responsibility - how not to treat customers! None of this in Betty’s. Simply outstanding in every way. Can’t wait to come back!

Betty's celebrated their 100th birthday in 2019 and has starting a new era in 2020... and so it is with the TripAdvisor Reviews which have passed the 1,000 mark! I am very pleased to start to this reviewing era with a very well deserved 'Excellent' rating.I visited here last week with my brother for mid morning coffee and treats. The 'Worlds Best Coffee Blend' with hot milk and a Flat White both had excellent and robust flavours without being overwhelming or unsubtly strong. The cinnamon toast and the iconic Fat Rascal were delicious and ideal for what we wanted. Very good waiter service and the lack of wi-fi is a definite plus... Betty's is almost timeless and really not the sort of place for anything as intrusively modern as wi-fi. It seems almost exclusively full of local people and Betty's manages to keep focussed on it's long standing clientele rather than tourists seeking the 'Betty's experience'! Well done.

What can you say about Betty's that it's reputation speaks for itself. If you see a Betty's you must go. There may be a wait to be seated in the restaurant, we waited 15 minutes, but it is worth it. This was 11:30 in the morning. We went for breakfast having looked at the menu online. Swiss breakfast Rosti. Unbelievably good. Poached egg to perfection, top quality mushrooms. The place was packed. But the staff are well organised, unflappable, professional and diligent. They are perfect. Not hurried and always friendly. Their style is Edwardian tearoom and quite beautiful It must be strange working there as some people had breakfast, some were on cakes and some were on sandwiches. Cakes?? Seriously. They wheel the cake trolley past while you are having breakfast and everyone stops to look at the cakes. Yes we did get a piece of cake to share afterwards. Recommend the caramel tart to go with your special Betty's blend tea. Then like a little boy into the cake shop afterwards like a shop at the end of the museum visit. On looking into the cake trolley and windows there are no squashed cakes they are all symmetrical (I wonder what they do with the slightly imperfect ones?) Good service and despite being really busy we didn't feel at all rushed. I asked if my 90yr old mum could sit down as she can't stand for long, she was seated at the front of the queue, whiched seemed frowned upon from all the others in the queue in front of us. If anyone had ever told me that I would queue for 30 minutes or more for a table in a café so that I could enjoy a coffee, I would have thought they were joking. Yet, here I was, in Ilkley, with 4 family members doing just that. I had to find out what it was that made Bettys so popular that there appeared to be permanent queues. When we were eventually shown to our table, first impressions were that the décor and furniture was rather drab and old-fashioned. Perhaps that is why it is so popular, being reminiscent of a bygone era. All the staff we came into contact with were extremely courteous and pleasant. Our food was of good quality and the coffee and teas were good, but everything was rather more expensive than similar establishments. I would certainly make a return visit but would I queue again for this experience? I doubt it.

Had afternoon tea, loved the sandwiches and scones, less keen on the cakes and I especially did not like the chocolate mousse as too dark for me.

We have visited before and this visit lived up to expectations. Lovely atmosphere and great food, and service. We got chatting to fellow diners sitting around us which made for a most enjoyable experience. The waiter who served us had knowledge of the desserts and was able explain everything on the sweet trolley, he had also tasted the cakes so could give us his personal preferences. We’ll go back again.

Well worth the wait, lovely lunch with a good atmosphere, friendly helpful staff. No wonder we had to wait for a table as it’s a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Will be back.

This isn't a review of the cafe, merely a comment on the Engadine Japonaise. Frankly it was superb.

Great food and service (as always) the sweets on the trolley are to die for, food is reasonably priced (for the type and service provided). Great for all especially tourists who want to experience Engish afternoon tea.

We went into Betty's Ilkley for a treat while on holiday in Yorkshire. There was only about a 10 minute wait for a table, so not too bad as it was busy. I was expecting all seating to be individual tables but there is also bench seating with tables, so not as nicely laid out as I'd hoped, felt a bit squashed up with other customers, not as relaxing. We ordered tea and cakes, the order took a little while to arrive. I poured out the tea immediately as I don't like strong tea (I'd ordered the Betty's blend) but it was already too strong. I usually order de-caffeinated as its weaker but they didn't have any. As for our cakes - hubby ordered the Vanilla Slice but disappointingly it didn't taste any different to a supermarket one. My daughter ordered the Chocolate & Passion Fruit Bombe which was actually delicious and we all wished we had ordered. My cake - the Lemon Curd Torte was much too sweet - the description was "zesty lemon sponge", layered with lemon curd, etc. I was in the mood for something zesty but it resembled the taste of a fondant fancy. There was only the thinnest layer of sponge the majority was a very sweet lemon curd and a sort of sweet buttercream. It was very sickly and I did not finish it. There was only the tinest jug of milk for the pot of tea for two, so we asked for more but it took ages to be bought to us. For me, the only thing that made it different to other tea shops was that the waitresses were dressed in their black and white outfits, other than that the layout and decor, service and food was on a par with other places. I'd been wanting to visit a Betty's tea shop for years and had visions of how perfect it would be, but my bubble has been burst.

We visited today. Everything was beautiful ... a proper cup of tea and the scones were delicious. The staff are pleasant and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you Mark who was so helpful on arrival x

I went to Bettys 3 times over the summer and had a bunch of different dishes as well as afternoon tea. The service was excellent every time and the food is very nicely prepared, its not spectacular, just well done and obviously made with quality ingredients. The tea was really tasty and would highly recommend it for lunch as well. Only problem is that its busy so get there early and be prepared to wait for 15 minutes or so.

We came in for coffee and cake and shared a piece of Engadine tart which is a Swiss speciality made with hazelnut meringue and a Strawberry Paris Brest which is choux pastry with strawberries, cream and chocolate. Both were excellent and not too rich or sweet. The decaffeinated coffee was excellent too. Service was very attentive. This place is expensive but great quality.

We love going to Betty's and this one at Ilkley is the best. Plenty of room and a sense of stepping back in time to a more leisurely time. Lovely finger sandwiches, scones and cream and cakes with unlimited pots of tea. We were there for 2 hours and really enjoyed our experience.

Our first visit and it won't be our last. We had to queue with other devotees for about half an hour but it was worth it. A warm welcome from the male manager/front of house and great service from all the staff throughout our visit. There were 6 of us and we had hot drinks and cakes and scones, all of which were delicious. The comfortable furniture added to our enjoyment and the silver tea-and-coffee pots made us feel that we were dining in a bygone age! The decaf coffee was the best we've ever had, so we bought a 300g packet afterwards that was ground in front us in their shop. The calm atmosphere in this cosy restaurant was generated by the staff, all of whom were professional in every sense. Thanks - we will return!

We flew down to stay with friends, arrived Ilkley around lunch and wasn't getting picked up until after 3, so what a perfect time to go to Bettys, a place to savour a treat. We had an open steak sandwich and a lovely dish from the specials menu then 2 beautiful cakes and afternoon tea. Then before we were picked up we had time to browse the shop for treats to take to our friends, like Yorkshire curd tart, vanilla slices, french fancies, chocolate mouse mice and brownies for the children.

Took my wife or the experience as I found out she’d never been to a Betty’s tea room - quick check of the map and two hours later we were in lovely Ilkley. Classy cafe experience with excellent staff despite being very busy. Only had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. Sadly they were sold out of a lot of cakes in the shop after 3 pm - fat rascals being particularly popular. Delicious lemon curd tart pastry with a macaroon on top was the highlight of the delicious cakes with the afternoon tea. Plenty of jam and cream with the scone which although a little dry was quite short and tasty. Individual tea pots and extra water for plenty of cuppas. Sandwiches were tasty but the highlight really was the delicious cakes.

This is as near to perfection that you can get, it is a beacon of good old fashioned service that we all once expected from such establishments. Excellent food, however the cakes are very tempting so forget the diet for a short while.

This restaurant has been highly rated for over 50 years. and is almost on my doorstep, yet I'd never visited. This was due to finances back in the day, but recently, I've just seemed to never consider it. Which is crazy as it's the closest Michelin star rated restaurant to my home. Anyway, I finally decided to try it as a Xmas present for my wife last year. We went for Sunday lunch and it was first class. They elevated a standard weekly event of Sunday roast into a brilliant meal that had elements of a roast but felt like so much more. We will be back. I understand it's had some renovations since my visit

We live in baildon, and have used cafe Nine quite a lot. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Quick to get your order taken, even if they are very busy. They have a bit of seating outside too which is nice when we do have some sun! Food is always nice and fresh. Usually have a large breakfast and coffee. Never disappointed. Absolutely no problem recommending them if you fancy a bite or a coffee, they will sort you out!
