As this places does Indian....It's probably the best Indian food in the UK. Absolutely fantastic, food and service Vegetarian options were a plenty, including the Skillet, Naans were soft and fruity, meat in the dishes was fresh, tender and cooked excellently - We'll be back when up that way...

We had already tried a takeaway from here the week before however as I was working late in Holmfirth we decided to go and eat in the restaurant lovely welcome the place was busy and had a lovely vibe the staff are so friendly we had a good chat with moon over life stuff lol the food was lovely they bhajis are the best we ordered tuna mains and keema chicken balti and a few sides felt very relaxed no rush to eat and go will definitely be back and would recommend

Found the food very bland and average. To be fair prices was reasonable and restraint is lovely. But food was bang average. Onion bhajis were tasteless prawns purified was ok. Karachi was average and tasteless. Wouldn’t rush back

It was an amazing experience to visit holmfirth because of Bengal spice , me and my wife been to holmfirth for couple of days and tried different indian restaurants but i must say Bengal spice is the best indian curry house i've ever visited . The interior was marvelous the quality of food was incredible with variety of options in the menu from starters to main .As i was confused what to try, a young man name memud came and helped me to decide my meal. the way he explained me all the curry and the ingrediants in it i was so excited to try most of them .on his recommendations i tried the dish called Katmando i believe.it was the most delicious chicken curry we've had some rice and garlic naan as well. we will definitely visit this restaurant again in future if we can .

Popped in on the off chance could get a table as staying at a local hotel overnight. Given a table straight away, a few other people in. Goid menu choices, food came quickly which is always a worry. However it was perfect. Great flavours, good value for money. Recommended. Nice touch a shot of Baiileys with the bill.

We had a wonderful time at Bengal Spice, although we hadn’t booked in advance and it was a busy Saturday night, we were quickly welcomed. The atmosphere was great, with lots of other diners and very friendly service. The waiters were absolutely amazing, very attentive. The restaurant was very modern and decorated beautifully with lots of character, with big windows, brick wall and quirky lights. The food was delicious, the poppadoms were perfectly crisp with a fantastic array of dips. We ordered the vegetable combo to share - the onion bhaji was cooked to a golden perfection and the battered potato was so fluffy and beautifully spiced. Being vegan there was lots of options to choose from. I ordered a vegetable balti which had a great depth of flavours, a variety of vegetables and a rich sauce. The mushroom rice was delicious too. My husband had a balti Jatfri with lamb, which had plenty of meat, very tender and full of flavour. Overall had a fantastic time, and would recommend everyone to go there!

Just came back from an amazing Saturday evening out at Bengal Spice, and wouldn't have wished for a better evening with friends. Ordered the mixed platter and mixed fish platter for starters, which were battered and served with style. The fish pakora and masala fish were so soft, the chicken had the perfect amount of seasoning, and the king prawns were perfectly cooked. For the mains, we asked for two surprise mains and were given the special rice, Hyderabadi biryani, lentil curry, and two chicken curries. To be honest, after eating all these dishes, I felt satisfied and full that there was no room left for dessert. However, I couldn't leave without getting my favorite dessert, which was the banana fritters and ice cream. To die for, seriously! The perfect amount of sweetness and a hint of spice, yummy. The staff at the place were so kind and helpful especially Saifa and Juhaifa. The boss was also very kind whose demeanor truly reflects their exceptional management skills. Their kind and approachable nature created a welcoming atmosphere which definitely made the whole experience worth it

Fighting through some horrendous weather and at one point, almost abandoned the trip altogether, I battled on towards “Last of the summer wine” country towards Holmfirth in Yorkshire. And so glad I did. You will find hidden behind the arched façade of an old Victorian building, The Bengal Spice. It’s setting suiting it perfectly. A spacious restaurant with seating, I’m guessing for around 80 people, a very comfortable eatery decked out in warm browns and golds. It was a very wet Sunday evening, so the place was quiet, the Staff here seemed to know everyone who came in on first name terms. There was plenty of tables to choose from so I sat in the window where I could observe the locals battling through the heavy rain, I presume to the “Local” to mop up the last dregs of the very humid summer weekend. So, on to the reason for being here. FOOD! I chose from the extensive menu, Poppadom’s with the pickle tray. And what a pickle tray, large dishes of Onion, Lime pickle, Mango Chutney, Yoghurt, and their own sweet and spicy dishes of in-house chutneys. Next, I decided on Shami Kebabs, Spicy minced lamb patties that were perfectly spiced, not quite as good as Dawats at Whitefield, but very close to it. This was followed by a beautiful Kathmandu Chicken, Big chunks of Chicken breast, Spicy, sweet and full of flavour. Fluffy separate tasty grains of Pilau Rice with a sweet fresh, piping hot, Peshwari naan completed the dish. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful and will be again tomorrow evening with what I brought home with me! The staff here are very attentive. Service was slick and friendly; I hope I Got his name correct, but I spoke at length to the waiter “Moon” who told me that he used the money he earned working at the Bengal to put him through university to study for a master’s degree on Artificial Intelligence. Now all he had to do was decide how best to use it. I was them presented with a complimentary shot of Baileys. Parking I would imagine to be difficult at busy times but on this occasion no problem. The price of this delight was £34.70. Would I recommend the BEGAL SPICE? I most certainly would. By now it had stopped raining, so I took the advantage of a stroll round the town. It’s a town that made its fortune I presume weaving and cloth making as there are still a few “fine English Cloth” Manufacturers here and there. Some very steep roads and streets to negotiate with five story buildings that seem to hang on to their precarious cliff side situations for dear life. There are several Indian restaurants within a few minutes walking distance, with a few pubs and bars on offer. Not too many reminders of Nora Batty and her wrinkled stockings or compo and Cleggy, but what there is here is friendly people all with a friendly nod and greeting. One or two really good quality menswear shops so if you are looking for something a bit different!

The food is bland and a below average curry with no consideration made to try and make good tasty curries. There is no local competition so I guess they don’t need to try. Staff are pleasant and the interior is ok.

Arrived in Holmfirth late tonight so fancied a takeaway. Ordered easily online, was ready bang on time, and most of all wonderful food! We had a Chicken Korma, Lamb Shahi Balti, which was spiced to perfection. Generous half portion of fish fingers / chips for our child. When I collected the restaurant was heaving, a great sign for a Thursday night! Would recommend!

The service this evening has been shocking, it took over an hour between the starters and mains, staff stood around watching the football when we’d asked for the bill no urgency about the place at all. The food when it eventually arrived was poor when the starters came out there was 2 missing and took a further 15 minutes for them to come out. The mains the same two missing and then a further 15 minutes for them to come out, sides missing drinks missing it wasn’t a good experience at all, 3 hours for starters and mains. We won’t be going back.

We have eaten here so many times now. Accidentally found while on holiday and so glad we did. It is the best indian we have had and we love it. Tikka took is soo good and can't find on any other menu. Now whenever in the area we visit q couple of times before we go home back to Kent. Very highly recommend

I have been here on each of my twice-yearly trips to Holmfirth over the past few years and it is as good as ever. The Host/Manager is highly professional and without any need for me to ask he found me a quiet corner where I could read my book and get cosy for another lovely evening. The food is really delicious - notably the mushroom rice (best I remember having tasted anywhere) and perfect (and generous) naan bread. Even the poppadoms are cooked to perfection. I ate loads and the bill was extremely reasonable. The waiters are charming and the ambiance just right. Thank you for a super meal

A decidedly average curry. Pataks flavourings. Nothing to elevate it from the averagely poor curry. But this is what the locals like. Staff are friendly. Recent refurb is lovely.

This is by far the best Indian food you will get in Holmfirth by far, been going for 17 years. Really good food, the owner is a really nice guy who has worked hard to make it what it is today.

Visited 2 Saturdays on the trot. The restaurant has been refurbished and is looking lovely. Staff are friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic on both occasions, so fresh and tasty, just delicious. The menu is really well annotated so you can easily see what has dairy in, or is gluten free. Looking forward to our next visit in December.

The restaurant from the outside looks lovely and does not disappoint once inside. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. All the staff were very attentive and we felt well looked after. There is an impressive choice on the menu with some lesser known dishes. I chose a paneer and vegetable shashlik and it was superb. Absolute best Indian food I have ever had and at 53 years old, I've had quite a few! The flavour of the masala sauce was exquisite and the vegetables were tasty and well cooked. My husband had a lamb dish and was equally impressed with the quality of the food. The bill was also a pleasant surprise. The portions are very generous too. Can't wait to visit again next time we're in the area

We’ve been visiting this lovely restaurant for around 15 years and have never had anything other than a fantastic experience. They’ve recently updated / refurbished the restaurant and the result is amazing. It’s a family run restaurant snd the food is always outstanding. The staff are very friendly and efficient. It’s great value for money and the atmosphere is first class. Very highly recommended.

Not been here for quite some time. It's obviously been refurbished (new furniture; new flooring) and looks very smart indeed inside. The food was also excellent and the service very friendly. Will definitely go again.

Friday Night CurryBengal Spice has recently been remodelled during lockdown and looks amazing. The decor and the flooring is very classy. The menu has changed somewhat but old favourites can be found easily. We ordered starters, mains , naans and rice. Everything was perfect- the paneer tikka masala was heavenly , the paling saag balti will be my new go to choice! The tropical balti was sublimely spicy without being too overpowering. Rices and naans were fresh tasting and the alcohol we drank was reasonably priced. Above all -the staff were attentive without being in your face, knowledgeable about the dishes & smiley ! Made such a great evening and will definitely be going back!

Tables immaculately clean , popadums fresh and an old fashioned pickle tray that spins… so we are off to a great start. My better half had king Prawn sagg and she says it was the best ever, full of delicious ingredients !!! It came with loads of rice easily enough for two people. Lamb tikka sizzler for me, thought I’d try chips and garlic Nan bread , lamb was cooked perfectly and masala sauce were excellent. The table was quickly cleaned and we were precented with a Hot towel ( warm wipe) it’s years since I’ve seen this done !! We asked for the bill , only to receive Irish cream and a chocolate each .. again this is something that everyone did years ago ! Great to see and it just added to a great experience . very nice place !

We had a takeaway, mixed sharing starter, oh my word all gorgeous especially the lamb chops. For mains we had makhani, balti and cauliflower and potatoes. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended

The new decor is beautiful, the staff were exceptional, friendly courteous and keeping to a no touch service. BUT the food I haven't had better anywhere we had prawn and Chana puri , full of flavour. My Bengal Murgh special was exceptional tender chicken which seemed char grilled but the individual flavours of mint, coriander and spices was wonderful. an exceptional dish. we will be back soon

Had a meal here with my boyfriend on a Saturday evening when visiting the area. We were really impressed as it had lots of people inside so had a great atmosphere, the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. The decor was really swanky too. Can never fault Bengal! Enjoyed yet another meal from here with the family.Got a takeaway from here the first night it reopened. We realised after collecting our takeaway that a meal was missing - they were very apologetic and gave us a drink to compensate us for it. We love going to the bengal spice . We are always made to feel welcome and the staff are simply brilliant. We have many reasons for returning time after time but the top of the list is the bengal curry. The variety of dishes is second to none and you can always find something that will be new or Different. I would vote for this to be the best curry house in Yorkshire. Thank you team bengal.

Bengal Spice in Holmfirth is not Dishoom in Shoreditch; it is a great Indian Restaurant and Take Away in a rural town in West Yorkshire. A little ‘80s in decor, but with 21st Century servie and a menu that actually delivers variety, subtlety and depth of flavours across its range. The quality / price equation results in fantastic value, and it never disappoints. What you get is what you see, and it’s great for the location and cost. Never fails.

Seated next to a raucous group of middle aged people who swore & shouted throughout our meal. Whilst the food was good the ambience was definitely not - suggest giving Bengal Spice a miss at the weekend...

cant understand where all these great reviews are coming from?? our meal wasnt good at all..5of us.on sunday night..it was very Busy...but ..the decor is so dated and depressing ..like stepping back 20 years..my prawn cocktail was a bowl of marie rose slopp...i left it..all of us left most of our currys...the staff asked if we wanted to take it home??what to give it to the dog?..just didnt think it was worth 120 pounds ..p.s the staff were very friendly....

This was my first meal at Bengal Spice although I had heard excellent reports from Chris about how good it was because the family go there regularly. I was not disappointed! We were a family party of eight and received a warm welcome before being shown to our table. Chris and I started with table shared papadam and pickle tray and of course onion bhajis, then went on to share a main course Jumbo Platter which was an assortment of tandoories(tandoori chicken, sheek kebab, tandoori lamb, king prawn and lamb chops which came with basmati rice and sambal sauce. The platter was absolutely delicious and certainly enough for us to share, I would certainly choose it again and hope to in the future. The house Shiraz was very acceptable and was an excellent accompaniment to the Jumbo Platter.

Love it here, always get a warm friendly welcome from Athiq , Arthur and team(even when we haven’t been for a while) Food is always excellent and lots of it!! Their onion bhaji’s are THE best. Came here middle of bleak January - and asked people for recommendations - of course that always brings up everybody's favourite, but Bengal Spice was among them anyway, there's a few in and around Holmfirth. It was a Saturday night and we hadn't booked so we went early evening, to find the restaurant already busy - always a good sign. One problem with Indian restaurants can be small tables and very close together, not so here. The table service was excellent, courteous and attentive, very good considering the busyness. Starters popadoms (you've got to haven't you) and pickle and a mixed kebab, the latter so large and well presented I thought at first it was the main. Also a delicious looking chicken shaslik (probably spelt wrongly). Mains came in the form of curries (of course), Katmandu and Garam Massala, both excellent with the rice accompaniments. A bottle of excellent wine washed it all down - and a lovely touch of a shot of Baileys and a choc at the finish. Total bill £55 which we thought very good, for the quality and comfort and including wine. Eyes bigger than belly as usual, meekly asked for a human doggy bag, which was provided with no trouble at all

The Bengal Spice at Holmfirth is a truly outstanding restaurant. Excellent food cooked to the highest possible standards with service equally outstanding.Although it has large seating areas it has a cosy and intimate feeling to the place allowing you to relax fully and truly appreciate some of the best food it has been my pleasure experience. This is one of those places you owe it to your taste buds to visit and your mouth will love you for the rest of your life.

Had a number of sit down meals and take away's from here. When visiting Holmfirth. Always very good .very tasty.and enjoyable. Worth a visit if you are in the area.M K.

Excellent food, had the chicken and spinach curry, loads of poppadum's with the pickle tray. We have eaten here quite a few times, very friendly service, always busy, good food, The décor could be updated, I would recommend it. hot hand towels and a complimentary shot of baileys nicely finishes the meal.

The food here excels. All the usual things you'd expect (but done well) and some really unusual Asian dishes. We live half a mile from 'Curry Mile' in Rusholme,South Manchester where there are dozens of restaurants offering similar food, but |I don't know of any that hold a candle to Holmfirth's Bengal Spice. Another reason to visit this great little market town. Check it out.

Must be our tenth visit and it’s still just as good. For once, an authentic Indian restaurant without the high backed leather chairs and fake red roses in black vases. The food is delicious, the staff friendly and helpful (they give great culinary advice) and it’s reasonably priced. You only have to look through the window to see how popular it is!

We called on the of chance on Saturday evening. We were soon found a table by the very helpful staff.

We went to Bengal Spice in July for our annual works outing, the were 16 of us, all seated on eth same table. Service was very good, all the starters came together as did the mains. Food was as good as always with no complaints. Good sized portions and good quality. The interior could do with a bit of an upgrade

Called with friends having booked so a table was waiting on a busy Saturday night. Met by the friendly staff and we were soon seated.

Our first visit to Bengal Spice in Netherthong, the staff were welcoming and the restaurant had a good atmosphere. The menu was very comprehensive to suit all tastes and the food was excellent with good portions. Orders were take fairly promptly but we had to wait 20 mins for the drinks and 45 mins for the food despite the restaurant not being full.

We called on a Thursday for the 10.95 special, what a disappointment. The food was bland and tasteless. I have read several reviews and cannot believe it is the same restaurant. Give it a miss and go elsewhere. In a word it is 'rubbish'.

The best curry around, great choice of menu and drinks. Onion bhajis are delicious and tasty. The mix tandoori starter is also fantastic and very flavoursome. I’ve never had a peshwari naan as food at any other curry house.

We visit regularly and always receive a warm welcome. The choice of food is excellent and the staff are more than happy to help you select a meal to your specific liking. Certainly the best Indian restaurant in the town in our opinion

We love Bengal Spice, it's our favourite Indian restaurant. Always get a warm and friendly welcome from Athiq, Arfur and team. Food is always excellent and they have some good new dishes on the menu. And their onion bhajis are the best! Service is always good and the restaurant has a nice friendly atmosphere. Plus they do a really good coffee. Recommend booking as is it very popular.
