I have never in my life had such a bad Indian food, I specifically mentioned i need tood spicy but it hardly had any salt. The karahi chicken was sweet the prawn chicken tasted raw. The biryani was like boiled rice. The naam was in a poly bag and on the top on it I got the food in a cloth softener Comfort box. I never give bad reviews but the food was just so bad. Apologies to the chef but they need to start making food which is Indian food instead of serving garbage.

My first and last time here. We had starters, and due to time restrictions, I decided to take the main meal away. It was the worst curry I've had in a long time. The overall experience was bad. The pickle tray, which consisted of three sauces, was bland and tasted cheap in ingredients. The onion bhajis were dry; I think they had been made days ago. The biryani dish lacked the usual flavors, and the accompanying curry vegetable sauce was indescribable. Come on, guys, don't get complacent. As professionals, you can do better

Been twice now. Really moreish food. I often feel too full to finish my order with Indian food, but I have cleared my plate completely on both occasions. Not fine dining, but seriously good comfort food! Gorgeously yummy. Writing this review is making me want to go again.

We have been dining here for the last 25 years, we have never had a bad meal. I have never given a review for them but after visiting on New Year’s Eve, I decided to write one. The restaurant was full and very busy but the food and the service were excellent, they are by far the best Indian food in this area, always welcoming. This restaurant is always our first choice for food whe we eat out and I would highly recommend

Once again you guys have excelled our expectations. Introducing our 9 year old to Asian cuisine, he thinks it’s all hot 🥵 as that’s all I eat so tonight, we ordered 2 Thalia’s with a mixture of dishes. Totally amazed at the variety of dishes, all of them so tasty & I loved them all, even the mild sweet ones. Would so recommend a thali to try the ones you don’t normally have. The Modha & Mankani were exceptionally good, the naan are always so fluffy & moreful. An excellent foodie evening, we loved it all. Thank you. Rachel & family

This restaurant has good reviews but I’m not sure how or why. Our preferred Indian restaurant in Wakefield is Syhiba, which is temporarily closed. The food at the Bengal Palace is poor really. The lamb chop starter was the worst I’d ever had, not properly marinaded nor properly cooked. The egg fried rice had big clumps of egg, which just means the cook wasn’t paying attention and stirring the dish properly and the keema was also up there as one of the worst I’ve ever had. The rest of the family were all similarly disappointed with their choices. They don’t seem to have a proper cook. We won’t ever be going back. The oddest thing for me is how this restaurant got its Tripadvisor rating in the first place.

This has to be the best place to eat in Wakefield. We are always welcomed with a smile. The food is gorgeous and care is taken to present it well. What I especially like is the well-distanced tables, not only for Covid, but so a conversation can take place. It’s not a rowdy curry house, it’s very laid back and makes for a pleasant an relaxed evening with lovely food.

Been twice to this fantastic Indian restaurant once before lockdown and once after and both times it was amazing. The service is really friendly and efficient and staff are happy to help you choose from the menu. Not only were the curries on both occasions spot on but they do the ‘simple’ things brilliantly such as the onion bhaji and chicken pakora which were both excellent. The star of the show both times was the extra garlicky naan which was done to perfection as the photo attached shows! Will definitely be back as this has now become our go to curry house.

I visited last week but havent got around to writing a review. I am a regular here but have eaten at mose of the Indian restaurants in Wakefield. I find them all great. However, Bental Palace is the only one that gets 10/10 because the food is so consistently great. The service is always prompt, efficient and friendly. I usually eat fairly early so it is usually quiet so not sure how they are managing when it gets busy but COVID 19 measures semed good - the size of the place helps. If you like a quiet restaurant this is the place, Some of the other Indian Restaurans can seem busier and some will prefer that. It is certainly not do wo with quality of food. As mentioned, this place is huge so it would need a lot of people in to seem busy. It is alos a little off the beaten track - you wont accidentally fall in. I would really reccomend going out of your way to check them out.

A group of 20+ of us went here for my friends birthday (pre booked) on a Saturday night. The waiters gave us our own little area to sit spread over 3 tables. The food came out hot, fresh and at the same time - quite impressive for a large group. I had fish to start and it was delicious and cooked & presented beautifully. The beer is quite expensive but that's to be said for most places like this. The food is cheap so it makes up for it. The place itself is quite unusual as it's so big so looks quite empty, its not an 'intimate' restaurant type place. The lighting is also quite bright, rather than 'mood' type lighting you normally get. Over all I'd definitely go back to try the food again.

I asked for my curry to be made hot which they did without spoiling the taste as happens in some places and it was up to my high standards. 2 draught lagers and 2 mains with pilau rice and a portion of chips came to a very reasonable £26. Been meaning to review this place for a while now. Stays open a bit later than the not-as-good-as-it used-to-be Bollywood Lounge next door so you can usually see the last of the live music at The Hop or Bull & Fairhouse before venturing Bengal-ward. Never disappoints, good food and good service. Even on a mid-week night if you let them know you're coming you can usually get a meal quite (very?) late for a school-night. New competition (but hardly town centre) withe the Royal Spice in Wrenthorpe but if you're in town this is the best IMO. Bit too big, so not really a place with " atmosphere" but for the food & service, NO' 1.

Located down Smyth Street, Bengal Palace isn't exactly in the centre of town, neither does it have an imposingly restaurant frontage. These are not reasons for passing by because, as I found, really good Indian food is available, as the reviews on this site attest. I know that in recent years, before becoming the Bengal Palace, and under different owners, the restaurant had a mixed reputation. However, about a decade ago, the current occupants, who also own Rajpoot, ran a restaurant from the site, so they know what they are doing and are keen for the people of Wakefield to sample what they are offering. The main dining room is quite large and there is a discrete bar set back in an alcove. The restaurant is not lavishly decorated, but the décor, table settings etc. are more than acceptable.I ordered the mixed starter, a generous portion of well-flavoured, but not overly spiced pieces of chicken tikka and lamb plus a kebab. All served with fried onions and plenty of yoghurt sauce on the side. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. For mains I ordered lamb nargha, which the menu warned me had a kick; my guest had chicken pasanda, as a change from korma. We ordered chapatti as an accompaniment. My nargha was a really good choice, large pieces of cubed lamb in a thick, pungent and spicey sauce. The pasanda was good too, delicately flavoured and much less creamy and sweet than korma. Curry is a very personal thing. There are some places around Wakefield and the surrounding area that get excellent reviews and where there is nothing at all wrong with the dishes other than they are not to my taste. Similarly I think there is a difference between the dishes from Kashmir which feature heavily in offerings from this area, and more traditional style Indian food for the Brits. I would put the Bengal Palace food in the last category and it certainly suits me.If, what I have written chimes with you, why not give your current Indian a break and try Bengal Palace, prices are reasonable, the staff are friendly and efficient and the food is very tasty.

I booked a table the day before clearly stating I wished to use my Gourmet Card and I was told there was no problem. On arrival I repeated the statement and again was told no problem. When we were given menus we were told our card was not accepted but another inferior offer was available. We accepted this as it was raining and we were not aware of an alternative.

We visited the Bengal Palace this evening and were very happy with our meal. The service was good, the atmosphere was relaxed with plenty of other customers to create a pleasant ambience. It has to be said that the food was great, plentiful portions and well cooked. The naan bread was light and fluffy the curries delicious. Thank you, we will return.

We went for a meal here on Saturday night we had not booked but they found us a comfortable table near the small bar. The waitress who's name I cannot remember was very helpful even when I dithered over what I wanted, we had 5 different dishes all of which were very nice not overly greasy as they can be in some Indian restaurants. Overall a good evening out.

Wakefield isn't top of my list for a great curry so I wasn't expecting much from this well hidden establishment. I visited on a warm Monday evening and the place was almost empty. I received a warm and humorous welcome from the proprietor - who said he might be able to fit me in - and was shown to a table. Drinks were offered and taken. Cold Cobra from a large bottle. The food was good. I had King Prawn jalfrezi which was hot, sharp and tangy. There was a good balance of ingredients - loads of prawns - and the accompanying rice and nan was just as it should be. Staff were interested but not intrusive. My only reservation is the volume of the musical backdrop. The place is huge and the restaurant virtually empty but the sounds added little to the atmosphere. What happened to being able to chat over a meal without lip reading? That said, I will go back again...and enjoy it once more.

As a curry lover I've tried all of the supposed 'best' curry places in Wakefield and I have to say that this place beats them all. Open very late fri/sat night which is a rarity with a decent curry house these days. Staff and management are very friendly and know how to handle diners that are in drink (never me of course........... Hic ), food is top notch and prices are reasonable. It's a fairly large restaurant and I'm always surprised it's not busier than it is when we go. Only thing I can think that lets it down here is location which is slightly out of the limelight of the town centre (though only 2mins walk away).A real quality curry house that hasn't let me down yet! Highly recommended

We went there last night around 6:20PM and tried to use their 25% offer which was advertised on their leaflets which was sent yo our house. The food was OK and the staff were friendly, when we got the bill and tried to use the 25% offer coupon, the guy went really quite and upset. Not sure why as it was on all their take away leaflets. He then said that we should have booked the table before hand to benefit from the coupon. There was only one other couple in the place at the time, Any way her came back with the revise bill and he knocked off a new pounds. He then refused to speak to us. Very strange. Although food was OK, but we will not be going back.

Really impressed and I hope more people seek out this hidden gem in Wakefield- it beats all the other Indian restaurants around in my opinion.

Wakefield has a lot of Indian restaurants now but this is still the best one. Others simply don't reach the quality or value of the food here. Highly recommended

The Bengal Palace restaurant has been around in Wakefield for many years. a large building with both private and on street parking it stands off the main street in one of Wakefields many side streets. However it is well worth seeking out.its a very large restaurant serving the usual variety of Asian cuisine. with its size it allows the tables to be well spaced apart so you are not listening to the next tables stories! The staff are very polite and helpful and for anyone not familiar with Asian food will direct you and your pallet accordingly.we visited as a party of 5 friends at 8pm on a busy Friday night and were immediately seated and our orders addressed. The menu is extensive and dishes will/can be tailored to individual diners tastes. The service was both speedy and professional.prices are very reasonable and food quality brilliant.i have no hesitation in recommending the Bengal Palace - its well worth seeking out you will not be disapointed

I went here this evening for the first time and was very impressed. The restaurant looked clean and welcoming. There were four of us and we all ordered different dishes. We had to wait a short while for our main courses but it was well worth it. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will be recommending this restaurant to our friends and visiting again ourselves in the near future. Good sized portions of very tasty food. The staff were very, very friendly and efficient. This is now my favourite place for curry in Wakefield.

A month ago my wife & I went up to Yorkshire to pick up a Weimaraner puppy from a dog kennel, we spent the night in a Travelodge & decided to go out & have a curry in the nearby town, we came across the Bengal Palace in the town centre of Wakefield, we noticed the prices were a little high but what the hell. From the moment that we arrived we noticed that the staff were very polite & friendly, we were escorted to our seats & were told to take our time & should we have any questions with regard to the menu we were to ask them, being an avid lover of curry's we knew exactly what we wanted, my wife had a medium hot chicken curry & I had a lamb madras, this was accompanied with Bombay potatoes, & Bhindi Baghi (okra) we had a Peshwary Naan as well as Poppadum's & pickles, we also had Indian ice cream (Kulfi) & Coffee to finish off this excellent meal, I have mentioned that the prices were a little high but I can tell you that it was worth every penny & the quantity of food that they gave us was so large that we asked for a doggy bag which we polished off when we got home the next day.I can heartily recommend this restaurant for being friendly & good value for money, so what are you waiting for give your taste buds an extravaganza of taste, by the way our beautiful Weimaraner has settled in & we have fallen in love with him!

Customer service is outstanding - catered to every whim. All are very polite and happy to help. Food is amazing!! My mum has a wheat intolerance and made sure we knew everything on the menu that had gluten in! Can cook any curry that you want even if not on the menu! 10x better than Bollywood lounge. The location lets them down as everyone goes to bellwood instead - which to me is not as good. Will visit again :)

Really busy quite early on a Tuesday evening. First time in Wakefield on a business trip and the hotel menu is ultra limited. Didn’t really know what would be on the menu and perused the board for five minutes before deciding on the obligatory tikka masala on a meal deal. This came with naan, onion bhaj and a lassi drink. The counter staff were absolutely lovely which is so unexpected if you live darn sarf. Ordered my meal and stood back to wait. As mentioned it was busy but got even busier. At least four police crews turned up randomly for their evening refs, which is a bit of a clue as to the reputation of the establishment, obviously zero crime in Wakefield area! The meal took an age to come out and lots of people who came in after me got their food and left. It is all cooked freshly in an open kitchen. Mine came out in about 20 minutes after I had enquired as to its whereabouts. The food was very good, with a massive portion of bhajis and a very nice fresh bread. Tikka masala was a bit salty but still very tasty. The lassi was yummy tuck. I am back in Wakefield in a couple of weeks and will definitely go back to Abdul’s. Great value and decent quality.
