Three of us dined at the Bengal Cuisine, whilst staying nearby. I can`t remember what my friends had, but my prawn Jalfrezi was spot on. I didn`t have starters but they had a mix of samosas and bhaji`s, which were all freshly cooked and very good, as were the naans, which were beautiful. The two young lads who served us were really nice too. It`s not posh, but it`s not as bad as some of the reviews on here are making out. No drinks licence, so bring your own and cash only too. It was quiet when we went, but so was the rest of Pateley Bridge, which seems to pretty much shut down after 6pm !

Really tried to score this restaurant higher but can’t unfortunately… From the starter of chicken tikka (5 small cubes of what looked and tasted like processed chicken from the cold shelf of a supermarket) served on a side plate to the “king prawn” Rogan Josh (nothing resembling any variety of prawn - perhaps 2 prawns cut into small pieces if I’m being generous) to the watery potato side dish and the dull surroundings and a lot to be desired decor the whole experience was depressing. I can’t comment on the cost, I didn’t pay my dinner date did, but a trip downstairs to the cash point was required. Luckily the company made up for the rest of the experience. Not a place we will be recommending or returning to!

Ordered a lamb and a chicken main dish, a mushroom pilau and a garlic naan takeaway. Very little meat in both dishes, the lamb was tough and both were below average tasty. Cost £30 which I don’t mind paying if it hit the spot but it didn’t. On collection I was informed they only accept cash which I didn’t have on me hence the inconvenience of a trip to the local cash point. Why? - draw your own conclusion!

Such a shame, however honestly this is probably the worst Indian takeaway we have ever had and possibly the most expensive. Korma was hot and and spicy not mild and creamy, chicken pieces were few and far between, tiny little cubes of chicken, loads of sauce, couldn’t tell if it was the chicken tikka as ordered because the pieces were so small. Takeaway 4 popadoms the onion pickle was just onion really 1 korma and 1 dopiaza 1 rice 1 naan over £34 for a takeaway really !! Anyway just visiting so won’t be calling again. Person serving was nice enough though

5 stars for service, 2.5 stars for food. Staff were very friendly, however the mains were full of onion and a little bland (we couldn’t tell which dish was suppose to be which based on flavour). The portion of chips was tiny, the naan tough and rubbery, the chicken wasn’t of great quality. We are quite spoiled for Indian food around where we live and so probably have high expectations, but this certainly didn’t live up to them, but ticked a box for a satisfactory Indian meal whilst in the area.

I visited on a Wednesday with family. The food was ok but for the lack of chicken or prawns in the curries we ordered. We asked for water and were brought a bottle of opened water with a very worn Harrogate spring water cap, in my opinion tap water in a reused posh bottle. To add insult to injury we were charged £3.55 for it. When the bill arrived it was for £84 plus. The meal was only £48, they also added £7.60 service charge. I don't know where they came up with that figure. All in all very disappointed. Check your bill before paying and ask for your water unopened.

My last review was that it was the best curry, we have a holiday home in Pateley so used to order often but something has changed and not for the better. Hardly any meat in the curries now, prices have gone through the roof and check your bill as it never seems to be right. They also seem to "forget" about the discount they advertise for takeaway orders. Such as shame but we have stopped ordering from here now and are making our own

As new residents of Pateley Bridge we thought we try out the local Indian and as it was BYO thought we'd grab some beers from the Spar next door (which is superb). What a mistake. I only wish I'd read the other recent reviews that all had the same experience we had. We had a very poor quality meal, asked for the bill and was surprised to find it was almost £150 and we were told that it was cash only and were told where the nearest cash point was. We added up the bill multiple times ourselves and it came to around £114. I asked the waiter why the bill was almost £150 and to recalculate the bill. He did so in front of me and came to the same figure as us and without a word of apology handed me the amended bill back! This was a deliberate and a blatant attempt to rip us off. If you want poor quality food and to be ripped off then this is the perfect restaurant for you!

Having frequented Pateley for a number of years and taken full advantage of the take away feature we decided to sit in this time. Firstly it is quiet but then again that's the nature of the town, it's a quiet area and most people like to cook or bbq at thier vans and tents when the weather is warm so I can't hold this against the place as it isn't exactly thier fault. The member of staff wasn't the most enthusiastic but he wasn't distant or dismissive either, again he was probably a little fed up as he had no one to serve (we ate at 6:45 and we're the only ones in, another 8 or so people were in when we left at 8) but certainly nothing I could complain about. The food came promptly and was great although I have to say I always order the chicken madras but compared to the takeaway this was very mild. We didn't take advantage of the bring your own beer as we were dining with a 2 year old. She loved her fish fingers as well just to note. 3 mains with sides , drinks and rice/ chips came in under £30. All in all pretty good, just a tad let down by the spice level.

Although we live locally this is the first time we have visited the Bengal Cuisine in about ten years. The restaurant is on the first floor of a prominent building in the town. from the outside it looks neglected and run-down but the inside is better. It has had a makeover in recent years although it clearly wasn't a budget buster! We visited on a Saturday night at 7.30 and the place was empty, although a couple more tables were occupied when we left at 9. Our reception was hardly welcoming and the two waiters on duty were indifferent, bordering on surly. Their attitude suggested they woukld rather have been elsewhere that night, perhaps watching the Eurovision Song Contest?.This place is not licenced which is actually a big advantage because you can pop next door to the excellent Spar store (now in new ownership) and pick up a bottle of Kingfisher for just £2.25. The waiting staff did their duty and took our orders without much grace. The food was really not bad at all - poppadums hot and not burnt, nan bread fresh and tasty and main courses chicken passanda and chicken biryani above average. Good portions too. Because of its lack of atmosphere and graceless staff it is difficult to enthuse about Bengal Cuisine. They seem to do a good takeaway trade so perhaps that says it all. Good food, but don't want to eat in the restaurant. I think we'll take that option next time.

I understand some of the reviews. the place was quiet lacked atmosphere but it was a week night and early. That said, the service was great. THE FOOD, Excellent flavours, well presented great value. I could not finish all of it. One thing, if you want to drink alcohol, you need to go teo doors down first. but the J20 was cold and fresh.

We were the only people in the restaurant so it lacked any atmosphere. The waiter was nice but the food was below average, not bad, but nothing memorable. It also felt a bit cold and dusty, needed a good clean as there was thick dust on the windows and cobwebs. Okay if you don't have any other options...

We ordered a takeaway - popadoms were salty, curries tasted bland and we ordered a starter for a main, however it was not a main course size. The actual restaurant seems run down, had no atmosphere and appeared dirty.

We live locally and go to this restaurant about once a week either as a sit down meal with friends or for a takeaway. I am surprised at some of the reviews. We have found the food here to be universally excellent and the prices provide very good value for money. The guys who run the restaurant have always been very friendly, courteous and provide great service. We think we are lucky to have such a great place so near to where we live.

This restaurant was very good value for money and the food was decent. My only observation is that the meat dishes were heavily flavoured with fresh coriander, of which I am not a fan, so spoiled the taste for me. However my partner enjoyed the food immensely. This restaurant has no liquor licence so it is bring your own bottle.

I was alone and hungry. I ordered a Chicken Korma as a safe and predictable choice. The quantity was just right but there was no real flavour.

A lovely restaurant with good food & friendly, helpful staff. We have used this restaurant several times and never had a bad experience, whether it is just the two of us or a group of 16. My wife is a vegan & they were more than happy to create a meal especially to suit her!

Starters were cold, and bland. I have eaten a lot of Skeesh and Shammi kebabs over the years, and these were the worst I've ever had.My wife's main course was lukewarm. A very disappointing experience.

Located above a shop in the high street (no disabled access) of this picturesque dales village this restaurant proved to be a very enjoyable dining experience. The tables and restaurant were very clean. The staff were friendly and made me a dish that was not on the menu. The food was very good, not the finest I have ever eaten but certainly well above average and excellent for the price. The friends with whom I was dining also enjoyed their meals. The decorations were not especially impressive, but as the restaurant was clean and the food was good this minor point does not really matter. There was a large, well kept and fascinating tropical fish tank which interested me somewhat. The restaurant does not sell alcohol but will allow you to bring your own. There is a Spar shop within a few feet of the door that sells alcoholic drinks. There is public car park opposite the entrance to the restaurant so parking was very easy (and free after 6pm).

Ordered a take away. Only one couple dining in restaurant therefore no atmosphere and scored reminded me of something from years ago. None of this would have mattered if food was good however this was the worst curry I have ever had. Very poor quality - would not have known I was eating chicken and hardly ate any of the meal. Avoid!

we have been coming here for about 18 months since we moved to Pateley bridge as have some friends. we always get miserable service and dont understand why as the waiters are often gushingly friendly to other tables .There is never any recognition that we have ever been in there before and very rarely get a goodbye as we leave -the waiters often too busy checking their mobile phones to bother to look up. customers are such a nuisance arent they.It seems incomprehensible that a restaurant that can often be dead in winter cant be bothered to welcome customers - and regular ones at that.We keep going because we all like going out for a curry but if there was a choice of restaurants we wouldnt go back here .

We went to this Indian in the early evening and when we arrived at 6pm we were the only ones in the restaurant - but it soon filled up with families, locals and tourists alike and by the time we came away the place was full and had a vibrant atmosphere. The service was very good and efficient - the food itself was delicious... just a little disappointed with the onion bahajis - seemed to lack a little spice but the mains were out of this world. The menu is child friendly as well - with good old English classics of nuggets and chips for the less adventurous children like ours - and the staff very family focused - we would definitely take the children next time we go out to eat in Pateley Bridge. The restaurant is not licensed so we took our own alcohol from the Spar next door, but they do sell soft drinks.

We had a fantastic weekend at the harefest festival and where looking forward to finishing off with an indian meal. We arrived at 10.45 and although they where open until 11.00 pm we where told they would only give us a takeaway, they where rude and couldn't be bothered to sit us down because there was nobody else there. What a massive disappointment , avoid at all costs
