An empty chip shop at dinner time is never a good sign. I only had chips. Tasty, but a very small portion. At £2.65 its not what I would call value for money.

Fish ok. Chips a complete waste of money. Think they had been sat there sometime. Stone cold, dried up and hard.

Not welcoming to customers at all and ignoring walk in customers and the card machine did also not work and waited 25min before asking for you order.

Had such a lovely family meal tonight from this lovely place, the chips were so tasty and cooked to perfection, the fish which was Hake was to die for, it was meaty, glistening and the batter was golden and crispy. I feel so blessed to have a family run business like this on my doorstep. Keep up the good work ladies, we'll be back.

Always great quality food, and friendly service. Can really recommend the hake, its delicious. Regularly have a Friday lunch visit and food is always consistently good and fresh.

I don't visit Bell lane fisheries as much as I would like (the misses won't let me) but every time I do I am always greeted by a warm genuine smile and a hello. The service is amazing from the moment you enter to the moment you leave and without a doubt the best chips and large sausage I have ever and possibly will ever have. Keep up the amazing work you all do and we both wish you an amazing Christmas and a happy New year

Only get to visit here a couple of times a year. The staff are always friendly. The food is always excellent and the portions are a good size too!

Great options available for fishes all good type's loved trying the hake tonight related to the cod family eats roughly the same things slightly smaller breed but so much more flavour than cod. And with cod stocks being low it'd be great to take the pressure off untill replenishment of the stocks. Working as a chef I'd be more happy to put this on my menu as an option for fish Friday's. Keep up the good work team love it.

My first time buying here. To start with I have to say on a posative note, my Mother said fish and mushy peas were lovely. On a negative note, I had taken Mum out for the morning (83yrs of age) and always like to treat her to fish, mushy peas and a few chips on our days out. I asked the server if she would throw a few chips on, only 5/6 (as most fish and chip shops do anyway!) and she stated she was not allowed to do that? However, I could have a small portion of chips. I explained that my Mother would not be able to eat that amount and I was willing to pay 50p for 5/6 chips. (Not even a potato's worth!) The server still refused and the chips were there already cooked? They also have no OAP prices as most establishments do?? And as it was my treat for Mum, I didn't mention it. Saying that, I really do think that this fish and chip shop are nothing more then petty and greedy. Will I purchase there again? Absolutely not!

We used to love this place but sadly it has gone down hill. Tonight topped it off. The worst battered sausage I’ve ever had. Seemed stale and/or over cooked. Burnt on the bottom. Weird stretchy batter with no crispiness to it at all. Will not be returning.

Stopped off at the weekend and ordered portions of cod, chips and peas. Chip portions were on the small side and the quality was very poor. Mostly hard scrappy bits of chips, making them inedible. The chips that were edible (ish), were greasy and tasted like they'd been cooked in old fat. The fish were okay, but the peas were truly a let down. Hard and uncooked, with very little liquid to them. Just over £16.00 for all the portions, with most of it ending up in the dog or bin. I personally won't be returning.

After the poor showing last July we finally decided to revisit and hopefully see a return to the high standards of days gone by. First thing I noticed was a sign in the window saying prices had increased in line with their competitors, that’s fine I thought I don’t mind paying for quality. So I ordered fish & chips twice(one with salt and vinegar) in boxes with forks and 2 cartons of curry sauce, we always get boxes even though they’re 20p each. We drove to a lay-by and opened our boxes in anticipation. No forks, no salt and vinegar, over cooked dry hard chips and worst of all the boxes had holes in so curry sauce seeped through onto the car seats and our clothes! As I said earlier we always have boxes, but there’s never been any holes in them, why would you have holes in boxes which are meant to keep your food hot? The fish was decent but most of the chips were thrown in the bin. Then when we got home we had to clean the car seats! All this for £14.80! This chippy is 6 miles away and we pass several chippy’s to get here. This will not happen again, the quality of the food and the service is terrible, I can only think that Bell Lane has changed hands because the standard is way below pre July 2020. Would we visit again? Never not even if it was free!

You can’t really go wrong with Fish & Chips, especially when working from home and needing a quick fix! My takeaway from here was great: the fish was battered perfectly and soft flesh inside and chips were IDEAL chip shop chips. They certainly sorted out my craving. My only negative was that my peas were stone cold, but it’s nothing that a microwave can’t fix. Will be back!

We travel from crofton to bell lane as we feel without a doubt, they serve the best fish and chips for miles around.

Don't really like to critise, but whether good or bad I'm always honest. First visit for a while and a major disappointment. Been here loads of times and this is the first poor experience. I ordered and went back to put the change in the car. Two or three minutes later I was back at the till to see 2 boxes of fish and chips and curry already on the counter. I didnt know if this was a good or bad thing. Well I found out later it was a bad thing. When lifting the fish off the chips, you could see very little batter underneath and what batter was there, was all slimey and mushy. The fish itself was very very dry. Would I go back? After all these years I would love to say yes. But after spending over £13 it's hard to justify going back.

Bell Lane have offered on line ordering on a couple of occasions and it's been great to take advantage. While working from home and locked down fish and chips made to order have broken up the monotony. Still rate Bell Lane fisheries as a chippy worth a visit.

Diane and company at Bell Lane fisheries have risen to the challenges of COVID in a spectacular and innovative way. Order on their Facebook page and collect - the very best in fish and chips in a cardboard (recyclable box) ready for collection and consumption... mmmmmm ... no waiting and no washing up! What is there not to like👍👍👍

I go here quite a lot on Wednesday and Friday afternoon and it's normally quiet nice but I have noticed a change in staff and the service and food have seriously deteriorated since the other girl has gone (sue I think but don't quote me) . I hope she comes back soon from where she is. Very unhappy indeed

Charged £2.20 for a Chip Butty. Oven Bottom Muffin, no Bread cake. No Butter & a handful of Chips. Not great

Had a fish in a torpedo (long tea cake)at £4.60 for lunch , had to wait just over a couple of minutes while the fish was cooked. Wasn’t until I’d drove away and had a few bites and realised the fish was watery and still cold in the middle. For the last two hours I’ve had a stomach ache and a migraine. Not looking forward to the drive home

Never do cod always to late to cook or not got any

I live in one of the neighbouring villages but would rather drive here and order from these friendly people who always serve quality food than go elsewhere. Customer service in this country is still sadly lacking, but not here and nothing seems like too much trouble.

I’ve just moved into the area and have been recommended this fish and chip shop by many. After going a couple of time I can see why! The food is brilliant, by far the best around. The staff are so lovely too, we even chatted and said how lovely it is to see people smiling and just generally being kind to one another. Really great place and people 🙌🏼

Not as good as it used to be, give me a fish that's been sat for 5 or 10 minutes anyday over one that's straight out of the frier and dripping with fat.

Ok So I have only been to this shop twice I will be honest,also got the same meal both times,Haddock,large sausage and chips and a carton of curry/gravy.First visit was a lunchtime visit on a Saturday and have to say the meal was lovely for both me and my partner,the fish especially was cooked perfect with crisp batter on the outside and what i call slightly soggy on the inside with the fish meat tender and tasty,chips and sausage were also very nice....Second vist was a busy Friday evening...it was like a different chippy altogether,sausage seemed ok no complaints as was the curry but chips were without question way overcooked and virtually hollow inside,the haddock was again way to overcooked,the batter just fell off the fish and had the consistency of brandy snap,the fish meat was also dry and tasteless......it looked to me like they were all overcooked or fat too hot but thats my impression as a long time fan of haddock and chips granted Im not a fish fryer but this was well below to what you served on my first visitThe thing is Im not sure now if Im going to get the good or bad version so sadly cant risk it sorry,I feel disapointed now as after our first visit I thought Id found a cracking chippy and was really chuffed,sorry for this poor review but Im not sure what the problem is here but the difference between both meals was so different I wanted to give you this feedback as my honest opinion,really nice staff btwRegardsIan

These are the best fish and chips in the area. Food is always cooked to order and it’s worth a few minutes wait as the food is so fresh. Portions are huge, staff are friendly and their extended opening times are great. Highly recommend 👍

Usually very good fish and chips, bought some on fri 5.4.19 got them home and they were cold. I was given the last of the chips in the hopper and the fish was in the warming cabinet, don't know how long it had been in there. Not a good experience for a chip shop that is usually very good.

I have lived in Ackworth for over 30yrs and have spent a lot of money at Bell Lane Chippy but recently I have been disappointed with a couple of things. Several times the chips are tepid yet the fish is cooked to order and red hot. The fish size and quality is not consistent e.g. just had a regular fish and a small fish and although regular was slightly fatter these are much smaller than the previous owners. When the owners must know that the shop will be full between 12 and 1pm on a Saturday why ask each customer how many fish they want? Just keep banging them out to reduce delay. The new owners have worked hard on the menu with a variety of options but the products are not consistent in quality.

This has got to be the best fish and chips around. We are regulars. The batter is crispy and delicious. The chips are perfect. The oil is always clean. Service comes with a chat and smile. What more do you want !

I've been a regular customer of Bell Lane Fisheries for over 30 years and I can honesty say that I've had no issues with the quality of their food. Even though I don't live in Ackworth any more, I still choose Bell Lane Fisheries as my 'go to' source for fish n chips while visiting my elderly mother in the town of Hemsworth roughly 2 miles away.

Genuinely the best chippy for miles round. ALWAYS nice quality food, they prepare and cook everything fresh.. and you can tell! crispy batter never soggy, staff are brill and has that propped chippy feel, not a branded pop up chippy like most now days. always a treat for my family and guests and proud its in our village. cook on guys!

What a fantastic hidden gem this place is. The staff are friendly and pleasant, they cook the food to order so whilst there may be a small wait (and I mean small) the food is absolutely delightful. Pay the extra and get your fish supper in a box! It keeps them super fresh.

Once while passing through Ackworth I asked a chap if he could recommend a chippy he told me there was 3 or 4 I can't remember which, but he said Bell Lane was the best. So that was that we gave it a try and we have never been disappointed. We always have our fish & chips in a tray or a box wherever we go and eat it nearby while it's hot and fresh, it may be a little bit more expensive but we prefer it. Try it in a box or tray especially if you take it home as it takes any risk away in case everything's stuck together in the paper(I'm not saying it will stick from Bell Lane as we've never took it home, but at some chippy's the food sometimes does stick ). Overall we can't fault it, good quality well cooked traditional fish & chips etc and excellent service with a smile and a laugh. It's not our local chippy as it's 6 miles away so that says something. Most recent visit 31st May 2108 about 6ish.

Been going to this f & c shop for a few months now. Excellent every time.

I had not used this shop for quite a while, about a month ago tried it again and the fish and chips were great, we both remarked on the improvement. However on the second visit the chips were swimming in fat and were soggy, the fish the batter what there was of it, was also soggy and not very nice at all. There was so much fat it had come through two layers of paper. I can understand when it is busy this can happen but when there is only 3 in the queue, no way. Will be giving it a miss in future.
