Barracuda Fisheries in Wakefield

Wasn't the best experience to be honest. The batter stuck to the paper. Found the fish rather greasy and the chips tasted stale. Much prefer Queens and Park Square in the area.

Fish and chips ok but nothing special. Had the haddock that has a very definitive taste. Reasonably priced

Visited 09/03/24 ordered Battered Sausage & Chips with scraps snd salt & vinegar. Staff very polite and efficient and the portion size was slot on. The battered sausage was very tasty so were the chips which are nice thick cut ones. Not visited for a few years but will deffo visit again.

Very popular fish and chip shop. Be prepared to queue sometimes. Parking can be a bit awkward so plan accordingly.

Absolutely disgusting fish soggy batter and swimming in grease all stuck to paper no batt left on fish when trying to put it on plate. Dry and over cooked chips very expensive and inedible

We love to go every other week, in the car with the dogs. We have a little spot where we park up and enjoy our food and the view.

Lovely traditional fish and chips. Extensive menu and friendly staff. If your fish is on the small side they give you another automatically

Very disappointed on my purchase of fish and chips twice. The food was absolutely flat cold, fish was broken in to 3 pieces and had to remind them twice to add scraps and they did not provide the battered sausage I ordered. All in all will not be returning as after spending £23 I would not say this was value for money.

Dreadful, ordered a large chips, half of them weren’t cooked and it was the smallest portion I’ve ever seen. All for £2.70. Wouldn’t return for fish and chips.

Used Barracuda fisheries as our go to local chippy for a few years now, problem is the paper they use to wrap the fish in is terrible, by the time you’ve unwrapped the fish most of the batter is stuck on the paper, noticed a few reviews say the same thing, will be taking a break from there now as chippy tea isn’t a cheap hobby anymore especially when your not getting a nice battered fish and just a mess on your plate by the time you’ve unstuck it from the paper.

Spot on service and the grub is great too.

My favourite place for fish & chips!! Tried alot of chippy's up and down the country and these to me are the best!! Friendly staff, very clean and tidy shop and great portions.

Had great takeaway fish and chips from here. It's not a regular place for me, but was passing by at break time and it's reputation precedes it for great fish and chips, so gave it a try. Didn't disappoint.

Excellent fish and chip shop !, prices are very reasonable even after price increases at other fish and chip shops they still seem to be very reasonable. Having ordered fish butties , battered sausage ,spam fritters and Scollops from here all good has been cooked well and has been fresh. Fish butty was very nice with a nice sized fish and and good batter . Nothing was soggy and everything was nice and crisp. Members of staff are very polite and kind . There’s a nice outdoor seating area outside also if you would like to eat your fish and chips after purchasing. Overall a great fish and chip shop in terms of value and quality 5/5

Tried a few times every time the same problem soggy batter you get home take you fish and chips out of the paper and all your batter is stuck to the paper then your left with a soggy fish - horrible

Stopped on our way home from Berwick, left the motorway, and were looking for a pub. Saw the Barracuda Fishery and thought, "Why not?' Glad we did, v nice lightly battered fish and proper chips. Highly recommended.

So very disappointing 😞. The 2 fish I bought were the size of 2 fried eggs and as thick as. I didn't see the portion as they served out of sync, but I did hear the person who was dishing up ask a very young girl if they had anything bigger as they were small...she replied 'no they are fine'. Well no they were not, what a rip off, had I lived near I would have taken them back.

Called tonight 5:00 pm . The 2 fish I bought had just come out of the fryer and given no chance for the excess fat to drain . The Young counter assistant wrapped both fish together ( as I’d said it would be OK ). But she failed to put a piece of the grease proof paper between them. When I unwrapped them at home 15 minutes later the 2 fish had blended into 1 because of all the grease . Not only could I not separate properly but they were actually not even cooked through. There was slimy batter and part cooked fish . I did not feel inclined to drive back again so I’ve wasted my time money and petrol. The fish got binned . Poorly cooked ; poorly drained ; badly wrapped . I worked out that I spend around £750 to £900 a year in your shop. Not any more .

Regularly visit this chippy and usually very pleased. However went today and was extremely disappointed. The fish was half the size it usually is and very greasy. The chips were slightly uncooked. Won’t be going again.

Website needs an update of opening times. Turned up at 09:40 Saturday night and closed. Website states 10:30 and 11:30 on own website Needs sorting out. Won’t bother again and stick to Chinese or Indian

Always great fish and chips, and always a very generous serving of chips (we always share, there's that many). Very fast counter service too. Not cheap, but where are cheap fish and chips ?

Got a Chip Butty and a Fish Cake from here last Monday for the first time in ages. The Chip Butty was nice, but wasn't a fan at all of the Fish Cake. It was extremely greasey and was more of a huge potato scallop with two huge slices of potato and an extremely thin slice of fish between it that you couldn't taste. Would recommend the Chip Butty but not the Fish Cake.

The food is always fresh and can be pre ordered or ordered when you arrive to be cooked to your taste. Staff always friendly and happy to serve quickly and sort out anything, nothing is too much trouble 😍. We will continue for this to be our go to fish and chip shop.

Called lunchtime 27th jan, fish chips twice 2 t/cakes beans and curry sauce. Poor all of it except beans. Fish pre cooked and dry, chips fat large, earthy and old, curry sauce seemed bitty uncooked, t,cakes 3 small clumps butter tearing bread. Plenty of it but poor quality 1/2 of it went in bin. Whats gone wrong! Use to enjoy so much and look forward to going. Will find another shop until they return to there old famous traditional qaulity standards. Sorry I just want it good as it use to be.

Me and my hubby visted last friday lunch time. The fish shop had only been open 15 min whenvwe arrived. We ordered 2 fish butties 1 was a small one cost almost £9. My fish buttie was stone cold and the batter was so hard i couldn't eat it. I think it was night before fish. The regular fish buttie was not much better. So both butties went in bin. I hope the barracuda read there reviews and reply to them because when i rung and told them the reply was there too busy to take complaints over the phone.

Consistently good quality food and always plenty staff. Good portions cooked fresh. Will continue to be a regular.

Batter sausage and chips and 2 fish butties nye on £20, anemic and tasting of oil, when I went in there was no chips.... I was one of two customers 🤦🏼‍♂️ Won’t be returning, queens drive is much nicer and cheaper

Not the cheapest in Ossett, but always good food. Worth the extra. We do always ask for well done fish, previously had a sloppy one. Due to often being busy, we ordered our food in advance, definitely recommend this, it saves standing in the long queues. Staff have always been pleasant & polite.

Visited on the way to the football in Huddersfield on a recommendation and wasn't disappointed at all!Arrived and there was a queue out the door, which is always a good sign.Staff were polite, speedy service and delicious food. Had the Fish Butty and a side of chips. Price wasn't too bad, have paid more in other places for worst food.surprised with some of the reviews to be honest, the place was clean, the food tasty and the staff did a fantastic job.Definitely coming back next time I'm in the area.

We visit every Friday for the past 12 months. Only once had a less than great experience with the chips but put right straight away by staff.

very expensive. staff do not want to work there. just got 4 scallops. under cooked threw them to the dog! fish ok. chips small portions . I have gone for years only because I know the owner and I like to keep it local but sorry no more !!!!

So. I went on the website. 2 portions of chips and one portion of 4 fish bites. According to their website it should have been £5.60. Charged us £5.95. My husband being as he is, even though I told him the total just paid what they said. This annoys me so much. I know its only 35p but if they overcharge every customer by this amount they will soon be able to retire. It is not the first time we have been mugged off by this fish shop. I won’t be shopping here again. Steer clear of this chip shop it is a total and utter rip off! Waste of money and not that nice tasting!

I bought a Haddock at £3.75 not a bad price I thought , but when I got home it was disgusting, hard batter, tough fish, and obviously a warm up. To be honest there should be a law forbidding sales of warmed up fish n chips, I have noticed in my area a lot of these places do it especially early on

The fish and chips are the best in the area and are really tasty.There is a vast expanse of different items on the menu board which seem to be all popular.The price on comparison to some other similar places is a bit pricey but if the food tastes great then i'm sure with most people this woud'nt be a concern.Well worth a visit.I have visited this place a number of times and not once have i been disappointed.

Went in for some fish and chips to be served chips that were like breeze blocks and the fish tasted off not to mention the poor communication between staff very disappointing.

Decided to treat ourselves to a fish supper. They either need a new server who can add up or a new cash register. Ordered fish and chips and a portion of fish bites. Imagine my reaction when I was asked for £11.60! I know this place is well overpriced anyway but that is beyond a joke. We won’t be having anything from here again but will go to one of the several other fish shops close by who are far cheaper. If you do shop here always question the price they are wanting to charge.

The last few times weve had food from here it's been gorgeous. Like a proper chippy tea should be. Not sure what's changed recently but something made a difference. Barracuda is a little more expensive than other chippys nearby but it's always been worth it.

Plenty of choice here, and well cooked, fresh, tasty fish. Obviously popular with the locals. Ask for the 'meal deal' - not publicised, but available.

Visited here when lots of family visited. Was a big order but they seemed to cope with it ok. The chips could have been warmer but edible. The battered sausage went down a treat.

Just visited here for lunch, and I have to say the fish and chips/ fish butty was like they’d been cooked yesterday and reheated, dehydrated. Terrible. Chips burnt and scratty, curry runny. Not usually that bad but won’t be going again!

This is my local and I've been using them for many years. No other fish and chip shop can beat the quality and taste of barracuda. There is always a que out of the door this is testament to just how good their fish and chips are. I would like to see a small fish and chips option all the time similar to what they do as a lunch time special as simply I their portion sizes are so good I can't get through a full fish and chips. Always good fish and chips. My 2 boys won't have them from anywhere else. I live closer to at least 2 or 3 fish & chip shops but always go that bit further to get them from here.

My wife and I visit the barracuda probably once a week, the fish are quite large and you get plenty of chips too, you normally don't have to wait for battered sausages they always have some ready.

This is our go to chip shop. Beautifully white fish always fresh a large portion of chips. Very friendly staff and lovely fish and chips 😊

Me and the fiancé spent ages in the car Sunday morning looking for a fish shop that was open. This place saved us as it opened at 11;15 around the time I was getting impatient. We had a fish butty each and chips wit curry sauce. The fish was beautiful. Clean white fish reasonable priced aswell at just over 3 quid for a fish butty. Great find for the day and will b back. Recommend to anyone

This place has okay fish and chips but they are so over priced. For example a cone of chips is £2.00 whereas up road at Caseys' 50p chips are bigger than the cones that Barracuda offer. Definattley wont be going there after school. If you are visiting Ossett go to Caseys

They do good chips here. Not really a fan of fish anyway but they do other nice stuff here like burgers.🍔🍟

Called for fish and chips today 1/11/17 lunch and thought I would try again as disappointing last time. I carnt believe how bad both fish were couldn’t eat them ! Disgusting at the price ! Will not be going again ! Should have taken them back !

Been going to Baracuda fisheries for the last 5 years now and it is consistently fantastic. The fish is good, the batter is excellent and crispy and the chips are cooked properly and not just a soggy mess.Pies are good, sausages are good too. No complaints what so ever - well worth the visit if you are in the area, I travel approx 14 miles just to get my fish and chip fix from this place.

We live about 10 miles away from Barracuda. We have many fish shops around where we live but non of them are anywhere near as nice as Barracuda.

Really tasty fish and chips, cheap and plenty of choices. Only slight issue is parking is a nightmare around the area

We tend to come here on 1st night after returning from a holiday. Always a queue, often outside, to get served - sign of a great fish and chip shop. We always have 2 specials lightly battered and cooked, and one lot of chips. More than plentiful. Yes slightly pricey but life is too short to have shoddy fish and chips

Just called here for fish and chips and they were rubbish, undercooked chips and the fish was very crusty round the edges, chewy and very thin, most of it has gone in bin will not be returning ever!!!

Although this isn't our local fish and chip shop, we are willing to drive the extra few miles for the consistently delicious fish and chips at the Barracuda.It's gets really busy but even when they're queuing out the door you never have to wait too long because the staff seem really efficient and they are clearly used to it getting so busy.

Wanted 60p to use a debit card.Cost it in or take cash only !No .In this day and age this practice should be outlawed .

Called in on my way home from work, I was served with a smile and the lady spoke to my 5 year old son whilst she was sorting our order. Portion sizes are fantastic and the taste of the batter is by far the best. Also pricing is great too. Would highly recommend.

When compared with other fish n chip shops - this place is expensive. Portions may be large (possibly too large?). Have found cheaper and as good quality fish n chips at other places in the area.

Okay food, okay service but nothing special. Staff bit bossy and seem like they dont want to work there. Also extremely high prices with hardly nothing in a tray. If you are after Fish and Chips pass Barracuda and carry on up the road for a minute and go to Caseys ~ much better

Got the in-laws up for a few days so we got a take out chippy tea.The food is great and the staff are polite and helpful.The in-laws love the fish from here so it sets everything off on the right footing for their visit. Me I love their double cheese burger The only negative is that the parking is quite often "tight".I would recommend this chippy to anyone - top drawer!

I visited this fish shop one lunch time l was very surprised how long the queue was they were queuing outside There was three staff serving so I got to the front in no time placed my order and left with my lunchAfter eating my lunch I now understand why the queue was so longThe food was outstanding Thanks to all at the Barracuda I will be visiting again soon

Have visited Barracuda many times and decided it was finally time to leave a review. Without a doubt these are the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. The food is remarkable, the portion sizes are huge and the staff are very helpful and polite. My fiancee and I always have fish and chips with a curry sauce and can never fault it, consistently the highest quality!On a side note we have also seen the owner working there most times and what a lovely man he is!Cannot recommend this fish and chip shop highly enough!
