We had some soup, and teas before and after going round the nearby sculpture park. Inside the pub was warm and the armchairs are comfy. Celeriac soup was hot and tasty, asked for a side of chips half way through and these came almost immediately. Service excellent. Would come again, this time for an extended lunch or dinner.

This is usually a favourite venue for a Sunday lunch with friends and we've never been disappointed, until today. The service was disorganised and the bar seemed unable to deliver. There was no lack of enthusiastic wait staff. At least 3 different staff members came to take orders - first for drinks, then for our meal, then for dessert. Are staff not assigned to sections in this establishment to prevent this time-wasting and disruptive duplication? There was obviously some issue with the bar staff. We ordred 2 soft drinks, a juice, a glass of wine and a bottle of wine. The juice arrived, then the bottle of wine. The soft drinks didn't make an appearance until just after the food was served, and by which time we'd given up on them. We reminded each of the very keen--to-take orders staff, as each one appeared consecutively at our table (asking if we were ready to order the very thing we'd just ordered), that we were still waiting for the one glass of wine, no one seemed able to actually serve ot to the table. Finally, part way through our meal and after asking someone who seemed to be in a supervisory capacity, it eventually found it's way to the table without any sort of apology to our poor guest who had been waiting an eternity. The food itself was fine, but the drinks experience marred the outing somewhat.

You always hope that if you don’t get great service or food that it’s maybe an off day. Or a change of management which impacts the vibe of the place. What I have previously experienced here was the best Sunday Roast ever. After a long hike I was looking forward to a similar experience. I got the beef Sunday Roast, given both options well done and pink, I chose pink. When the food arrived there were two slices of beef. One pink, the one tucked underneath was well done. I mentioned this to the bar staff, he replied ‘I don’t work in the kitchen’. Smiled politely and got it replaced. When the meal came back, I had expected the Chef would keep the meal warm which they did. However, the potatoes were solid, making a clang on the plate when I moved them onto a smaller plate to return. There was no way they were going to be able to cut. By the time fresh potatoes came back, I’d eaten much of my meal as it was going cold. When I paid the male bar staff at the end, it was me apologising for asking for what I ordered. There was no apology whatsoever, the potatoes even fresh tasted of nothing. The meal was no where near how great my meal was back in June this year. There was a very kind female staff, but the guy behind the bar whether he felt awkward or not has no customer service energy. I wont’ add a phot, just in case it was an odd bad day for food and service.

We ate outside on a sunny Saturday afternoon with another family. It's has a great space where our children played happily for the majority of our time there. Mostly the food was good, the exception being a children's side of perished brown and black coloured broccoli. We highlighted this to our waiter who then proceeded to refunded us in very small change, presumably tips. Very strange behaviour since we paid by card. I would return for drinks, but I'm not sure I would eat there again due to my genuine concerns about the freshness of the ingredients they serve.

Flabbergasted by the audacity of serving a handful of peas in a cupcake as a starter for £7. The mains were no better; tiny portions, average quality but above average prices. If you want a drink, you need to fight your way through the bar hugging, champagne Charlies.

Fantastic. Can't fault it. Impeccable service at the moment, plenty of staff well dressed and up for a chat. Lovely rear terrace with comfy cushions and wildflower planted out. Large dining areas, great menu. We didn't mind the roast was 'well and truly' done- better than bacteria. Pricing good. Table distances good. Very helpfully located opp sculpture park. Onsite parking free and plentiful. Delightful village atmosphere. No idea why anyone would complain about service here. Good to have open kitchen with plenty of chefs in it. Caught a glimpse of rooms - look fantastic, and set back from the road for a quiet night. For Churt, this has to be a god-send of civilised dining out. Top marks.

Used to love coming here after a weekend dog walk for lunch and a drink - sandwiches were great and reasonably priced, burgers were decent, roasts were good, otherwise it was generally a solid menu. Unfortunately, they’ve now decided to take away much of the bar food (including sandwiches and pasta dishes), and replace it with an ‘a la carte’ menu whose prices have now hiked up by over 50%, but without a corresponding improvement in quality or choice. So now you’ll need to pay £18.50 for a very average burger and a small pot of fries, or £14 for a pretty underwhelming Caesar Salad. Otherwise lots of the mains are now over £20. Real shame. Better and cheaper options elsewhere.

Stopped in for a pint after an excellent stroll around the statue park across the road. Pubs in a great location but very clearly designed for wannabe Upper middle class diners, tried to get served at the bar but we were directed to a sofa table by a rather officious young man who definitely fits well with the snooty vibes, paying a £2 service charge to have our pints walked all of the 5ft from the easily accessible bar was definitely a bit rich. Good location and decor but expect to pay a lot for what seemed pretty standard fare, definitely capitalising on being the only restaurant/public house in the vicinity. Meh.

Food 4/5 The bread came with a neutral oil. We asked for butter which came fridge temperature and unsalted. Our steak was excellent but accompanying new potatoes were slightly undercooked. Their veal jus is overly seasoned for my taste, and I enjoy salt. Although they have a Coravin they are only willing to use it on 3 wines. The chef adapted well to allergies. Tarte tartin is excellent Service 4/5 A touch slow at times, a little unfamiliar with wine and how to pour it. Generally great though. Atmosphere 4/5 A lovely, warm atmosphere but a pity they didn't light the fire. (Review in February)

Arrived with high expectations to find a comfortable bar area and a warm welcome from the young barman. We ordered 2 x chicken, bacon and avocado sandwiches plus a beer and a medium glass of red wine. The sandwiches looked inviting when delivered with char grilled bread and a nice bowl of fries. However, when I lifted the top slice of bread I found the thinnest slither of chicken, with a similarly very small piece of bacon and a smidge of avocado, all smothered in mayo, probably to try and disguise the lack of substance! But you could have knocked me down with a feather when I got the bill to see £44…….including a 10% service charge! I requested the service charge be removed and fed back my thoughts on the sandwich. As part of Fullers, this place does nothing to improve my opinion of “chained” establishments which seem to think it is acceptable to serve minimal food content at maximum prices, whilst independents seem to be far better at managing their costs and delivering beyond expectations.

I don’t feel compelled to write reviews very often, not unless the service is exceptional. In this instance it was exceptional for all the wrong reasons. The drinks were expensive, but given the location and surroundings, is perhaps understandable. However, when paying through the nose I expect to get an experience commensurate with the price being charged. The young barman was busy talking to a waitress and then seemed to think he was doing us a favour by serving us. He was unsmiling and uncommunicative, an interaction with a vending machine would have been more enjoyable. Now, we all have our ‘off’ days but this was our third visit. Each time the staff have given the impression that we, and the job, is beneath them. Just for the record, I was smartly dressed on each occasion, polite and engaging, as having worked in the service industry myself am aware that the public are sometimes the issue! We will not be giving them any more benefit of the doubt, there are much friendlier establishments in the area.

My husband and I stopped off at The Bel & Dragon on route to our shepherds hut for an overnight stay. When we arrived there were 3 guys standing behind the bar and not one of them smiled and welcomed us, we ordered our drinks, a small guinness and a glass of wine which were pleasant enough so we we later decided to ordered some snacks, pigs in blankets and some chips and another round of drinks which were brought to our table, we paid our bill but hadn't noticed at the time that a 12.5% service charge was included as it wasn't shown on the bill, quite cheeky we thought because it states on the menu that service charge is optional and it wasn't as if we were in the restaurant, we were sat in the bar area. It was a very hot day and my husband decided to order me an icecream, however he ordered it while he was outside in the garden area having a smoke and hadn't seen a menu or the price for it so just gave a member of staff £5.00 however when the icecream arrived it was that small you needed a magnifying glass to see it, a member of staff then handed my husband £1.05 change, we both thought the charge for such a tiny scoop of icecream was extortionate and raised it with a manager who wasn't particularly friendly and understanding and said for one scoop it is £3.50 and basically that was what it was, however they had added a 45p service charge for bringing it over to our table. The place is nice enough but the service charge needs to be fairer and some members of staff need some further training on how to be more pleasant to their customers. We will not be returning when we are next in the area.

Probably like the majority of their customers, we came here after a visit to the sculpture park. We had one supposedly large glass of Sauvignon, a pint of lager and two packets of crisps. The bill: £23. Before swiping my card, the barman gave me the bill saying something like "so you can see where the money's gone". I wasn't wearing my glasses and didn't make the effort to put them on, thinking "how much can a couple of drinks be?". Big mistake. I didn't protest, simply because my friend and I had enjoyed a really nice morning, the drinks were supposed to be a thank you to her for driving and I didn't want to spoil the day. I shan't be visiting again.

Once a local favourite, sadly our local gastro is dining out on a past reputation. First time back in over a year (inside)....disappointing. Same good atmosphere and table service I recall but extremely disappointing food, belying what is an interesting menu, as ever. Over cooked mushy fish, stodgy pasta and cold gnocchi. Real shame and no interest from staff to adjust the bill other than removing a service charge. Times have been tough for this sector so was happy to pay in full, but sorry to see such a once excellent destination slowly wither like this.

Appealing building and fittings. Visit started well with a pleasant barman showing us to a table. The menu looked appealing and gave every impression of being of the type of having been produced by an artisan chef from local produce. However when the food came it was clear that there was a food cost spreadsheet jockey at the corporate head office trying to make sure that the prices were high enough and the amount of costly products in each dish were low enough to produce an excellent gross profit percentage. In the crab linguine there was probably less than a demitasse spoon of crab, and the linguine looked suspiciously like spaghetti. The cost of £18 for that little crab takes away from the taste and texture and pleasure of the smallish portion. Similarly the gnocchi portion was smallish and an excellent food cost percentage for the company at the £14 cost. The food was brought and then the teenager wandered off in the search for some cutlery - if only they emplyed a professional maître d'hôtel or a professional hotelier rather than head office profit calculators I would hope that the establishment would in the end be much more profitable. If you would like to support a head office, this is the place to come. The real ale was in excellent condition.

We recently stayed here in celebration of being out of lockdown and to visit the sculpture park. Our room was comfortable and the breakfast was good. The starters and desserts at our evening meal were very good but unfortunately my main course was very disappointing. I had the fish and crayfish pie; it’s no exaggeration to say that there was no fish in it at all and I found just a tiny piece of crayfish which was smaller than it 1p coin. The pie was basically full of peas. I mentioned this to the waitress but there was no response. I would have taken the issue further but our friends had selected this venue and we didn’t want to put a dampener on a special couple of days. We wouldn’t stay here again.

Four of us booked a table for lunch after visiting the Sculpture Park. The restaurant was clean and well decorated. There was a daily special but we all had the La-Carte and we all had Cornish fish & crayfish pie £15 whilst it was nice, expensive for what it was, plus normal any side orders were an extra £4.50. I had Eton Mess small potion for £7. My wife had Sticky toffee pudding £6 again both were expensive for the size of the portions. Our friends had Chocolate Mousse but weren't impressed. There are things ;to look out for; if you pay by cash they don't give change, even watch your bill when you pay by card, I was charged twice for the service charge. our bill was £104.60 plus the service charge £13.08 total £117.68 but when the waitress showed the total bill on the card reader they'd added an extra £17,65 service charge plus £0.32 Charity donation making a total of £135.65. when I queried the amount the waitress said I didn't answer the questions correctly, this I didn't understand as I didn't see any questions on the card reader to answer so I told her to take off the £17.65 and the charity donation of £0.32. When the waitress returned she didn't take off the £0.32 and they rounded up the bill to a total of £118.00. The waitress made no apology so I can only imagine that this is the normal way to get extra money needless to say we will not be returning to this restaurant and I just tell other people to look at their bill very closely.

When a pub charges £19 for a Sunday roast one tends to assume you are in for something special. So when my dad & I ordered the beef roast we waited in anticipation for this culinary delight to appear. However, what we got instead was a bog standard beef roast that frankly I would not pay a tenner for. The beef was nothing special, the roast potatoes were the typical reheated lumps of carbs that one is accustomed to (ok I get it you cannot wait an hour or so for freshly roasted potatoes but still...). My kids fish fingers...no not the fish fingers again! Were not great...my wife’s posh fish & chips were not in the least bit posh. i could go on...in summary the price this establishment charges for its food does NOT reflect its quality. In fact I feel 3 stars are generous. Proceed with caution.

Popped in for dinner having heard wonderful things were left disappointed. I’m asthmatic and outside there is no no-smoking area so we chose to sit in the garden as a larger space, making it safer. Advised no table service in the garden, unless your friends with the staff... Drinks pricey even for the Surrey / Mayfair and food decidedly average in comparison to other establishments not so far away.£26 for Steak with a little bit of leaves and chips is very overpriced and not particularly tasty. Burger at £15 was better value but nothing to write home about. Will try again when the menu is changed up.

Pricey, but I am sure this would be great for a Sunday lunch with friends and family. For a quick drink, and lunch it was limited and expensive

I’m rather picky and have been fortunate enough to travel widely. We found the dinner, the room, the breakfast and all of the staff we interacted with to be outstanding. Arrived around 4pm to check in to a favourite room. Tastefully decorated, large comfortable oversize bed and furnishings. Large bathroom with claw foot bath and over size rainfall shower cubicle. Wonderful artisan toiletries. Delicious dinner, we chose devilled crab, mussels with crusty bread, chicken supreme which was perfect and Eton mess for dessert. All of which were excellent. Good, concise wine list. Visited the bar afterwards for two top shelf digestifs. Would whole heartedly recommend. Lucy’s service at breakfast and check out was impeccable. All of the staff were delightful.

I arranged for my husband to stay here the night before our wedding (which was a 10min drive from the venue), as well as directing guests to stay here the night of the wedding. Our post wedding brunch was also held here and the staff could not have been more accommodating. Special shout out to Lucinda who would always go above and beyond!Great food, excellent value, really original rooms and the fantastic staff really make this place!

We went to the Bel and Dragon for a Sunday family lunch, five adults. We ordered the family feast of roast chicken and rib of beef to share along with all the trimmings, it was lovely. We even had a tiny bit of pudding space and the apple tarte tartin was superb.

Fabulous service for us, although we saw some other tables struggle with delays to their food orders due to sheer volume (bookings post 2.30pm). Food amazing as always. Really cosy atmosphere. great beer garden.

My first trip two years ago was great, fresh seasonal food. Been back twice since and it has really gone down hill. It is dirty, the food it not nice and it is over priced. Service was very slow and sloppy. It is a real shame as this used to be one of the nicer restaurants locally! Food was awful, how how it was a couple of years ago. We were sat in the booth and the walls had marks over them which should have been cleaned off before us sitting there - vile!

The starters were quite good but the nutroast main, at an outrageous £19, was not good. A miniscule slice of nutroast, boiled flavourless cabbage (should have been chargrilled hispi) and plain roasted vegetables (should have been maple roasted) with bad roast potatoes and very watery gravy. The fishpie had no crayfish. The fish and chips was the best meal in our group. The staff and service was fantastic and in their defence they took money off the bill. But I would have preferred to have had a decent meal. Such a shame as it's a beautiful place and the waitresses were lovely. Also I saw on their website they were doing a fixed price 3-course lunch for February, but we not offered it.

We stayed in the Brandon Room, which was lovely. You can hear the kitchen fan but it is just a background noise and goes off at 11pm so really didn't bother us. The hotel staff were very accommodating - I accidentally requested the wrong room initially and they helped us move including showing us 3 different rooms to chose from. Nothing was too much trouble. We then enjoyed some complementary sloe gin in our room and went to the bar for a drink before dinner. Dinner was nice, friendly service and had a good selection for vegetarians. Overall I would recommend a night here and the fact it has a restaurant and a pub means you can have a relaxed drink after your meal.

The menu looked great but my nut loaf that I ordered was so small and not nearly worth 19 pounds. My friend ordered slow cooked lamb which was the same price and also a small helping.

This isn’t my first visit, in fact I have been several times and believe left reviews before. One of the great things about this pub/restaurant/hotel is their staff, they seem to find very people who really care about your well being. This is my first lunch in the bar area, on earlier occasions it’s always been in the very nice “open kitchen” restaurant. This week we were shown the bar area if we might prefer it, and as it was busy with a bit more buzz we chose this option. The only difference is less table service but not an issue at all, our lovely bar man couldn’t have been more helpful and I wish I’d asked his name to give him a proper thank you. Food was excellent, I could drop one blob for value but it’s too small a worry for such a drastic reduction. The crispy squid starter was £12 and certainly not worth it. All other dishes were perfectly cooked and presented and of good value so not sure why the squid was hiked up; we ordered it expecting something exceptional but it was just the usual squid with a bit of chilli jam. Sadly this is not a local for me but whenever I can find an opportunity to meet a friend who lives in Petersfield we opt for this location.

Had a lovely time met my cousin's there in the Thorpe room, very comfortable only one problem the cups for tea and coffee are on the landing upstairs and I am disabled, it would be better if they were in the rooms when knowing disabled people are staying, however once we asked for cups they were very accommodating and brought us milk too. We waited a little while for our meal but when it came to the table it looked and tasted great the sides were lovely to only one thing would have liked a bigger portion of colliflower cheese, now I love puddings but again portion size was a little small but it was very tasty. The room was very comfortable and clean and breakfast was very nice too. All in all had a great night with family and friends, will definitely stay again.

First visit for us, the nibbles and main courses were superb. Great flavours, plenty of choice and good portion sizes. The side veggies were equally good. At this stage definitely a 4/5. We all felt the desserts let things down both in terms of flavour (sticky toffee pudding) and portion sizes (lemon tart) so the meal ended on a note of disappointment and seemed not such good value.

Food was good and we all enjoyed . Beef Wellington was excellent , Service however was interesting. We paid 85 pounds a head and were asked to pay this amount upfront a month ahead until we pointed out they were asking us to pay for a service that had not yet been delivered! A deposit of 15 a head was then given. The service was extremely rushed. We were given a glass of champagne which was included and ordered a bottle of white wine which was then poured while our champagne glasses were full. Needed to ask for a wine cooler and courses were served immediately after each other.

A stressful and disappointing experience. We had booked this nearly 3 months in advance for our rehearsal wedding dinner for 23 guests - it was a late evening booking as it was for 7:45pm and I had voiced to the Bel & Dragon that we wanted a swift eat as we had to go back and decorate and sort other bits out and we wanted an early night before getting up at 7am for our wedding the next day. After a phone call from management on the day of our reservation, 29th Dec at 11am, they said our booking would be 15-20mins delayed which I had no choice but to agree to, and again, made my expectation of needing to eat as soon as possible clear and why. On arrival, they sat us in the bar area where we would have been happy to sit and eat to get on with it! But, after a few of our guests talking to management on our behalf, and then them promising just another 10mins at various points, we were finally sat at our table at 8:55pm, 70mins late. We all would have walked out if we could have gone somewhere else but we had no choice if we wanted to eat! Also, my brother had a babysitter waiting and we were all starving. Dinner wine was kindly on the house due to the wait and we finally got back to the wedding venue to sleep gone midnight. Suffice to say, not many of my guests slept well that night, including ourselves. All staff were extremely apologetic and service was great once we sat down (partly as the rest of the restaurant had practically cleared as it was late on a Sunday between Christmas and New Year) but management needed to be stricter on moving the previous diners on to fulfill their promise to us. The food was also yummy, just such a shame management dealt with our situation so poorly to begin with. We also had many wedding guests staying at the hotel that night and the night of our wedding on 30th Dec. They all loved the hotel but were shocked by our experience. We'd certainly recommend for small guest numbers but not large parties, although I'm sure the large table before us would recommend otherwise as they certainly had the golden service!

Generally a pleasant evening but was not good value for money. Starters good but the main course were not of the standard we have had in the past. One main course was totally forgotten from the order meaning they had to wait 10 to 15 minutes. A sorry was mentioned but no recommence was made. Most restaurants do something when they mess up! Service was friendly but a little disorganised although they were not busy.

We always visit around Christmas when the whole family get together. It’s never easy serving 20 people but they always make it seem effortless (it does require preordering a week in advance as you would expect). Drinks in a cosy corner of the bar before dinner is also a winner. The food is always great and the magnums of house red or white wine, where you only pay for what you drink, work well for a large group - just remember to remind them to measure the bottles when you pay the bill as they sometimes forget! The rooms are great too so worth staying the night if you can. There are stunning walks all around the pub. Dogs are allowed in the bar (but not the restaurant) and some of the hotel rooms are dog friendly too.

I booked the table for the 6 of us; my two sons (one is autistic and the other has food allergies) whilst booking I mentioned that we would prefer a quieter table. We were greeted with a warm welcome and we had been given a special quiet table in the bar and the music turned down for my eldest son. The chefs were very accommodating with my other son’s allergies. Delicious food, very attentive service. Will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend

Bel and the Dragon has been through several incarnations over the years. This seems to be the best in a long time. We went for drinks / bar snacks with a group of friends and to hear a young singer perform in the bar area (excellent!). Food was very good. Friends who ate in the restaurant said they were impressed by both food, service and the wine list which was extensive and varied. There is a good selection of beers, wines etc. in the bar; also a good selection of cocktails available, which are generously made. The Assistant Manager, Magda, worked hard to make sure that we were very well looked after. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening and will be back to Bel and the Dragon soon.

I always enjoy our visits. The atmosphere is just what you want when getting together with friends. Very good service and attention to detail. Staff are really welcoming. The only variable is the food itself. I always leave a little disappointed. It looks good on the menu, it looks good on the plate, but somehow is varies a lot in terms of overall enjoyment.

Have been there many times and never any complaints but this past Monday night was quiet and should have been easy for staff. However, staff were a bit slack this time and whilst there is no complaints about the food, the service at the end of the meal for our coffees was tiresome. Took 20 minutes first and then they were cold and then after sending back, my friends got theirs but I still had to wait another 15 minutes! Then it tasted awful. I hope next time they manage to be a bit more professional and faster. Plus they need to get back their M&M;’s for serving with coffee/ bill. We miss the small sweet stuff!

Coffee - 2.3/ 5 Cake - 4.7/5 Vibe - 4/5 The coffee was okay, I’d come back to see if it were just an ‘off’ shot. The real star of the show was the carrot cake. I felt myself savouring every mouthful and my heart almost skipped a beat when some almost fell off the plate. Staff were lovely.
