Roost Godalming in Waverley

Took my sister here as she is a coeliac. What a find! So welcoming (to Archie my golden retriever too) and such a nourishing food menu, both savoury and sweet. Was a real treat for my sister to read the menu and order, without a worry. Has become a bit of a regular for me now.

We had the best poached eggs on (gluten free) toast I have ever had as their green pesto made it more delicious. I was happy to finally be able to eat any of their cakes as they were all gluten free. Their coconut and cherry cake was soft and yummy. I have not had cake like that in ages as much gluten free options at other places taste and feel like sand paper. Their coffee was excellent too, with two shots.

Love the concept and staff are always friendly. But prices too high and food service too slow to offer a higher rating than 3*.

My friend is gluten free so this cafe is a dream as its completely GF. We went for lunch and had the roost beans on toast with egg, a dirty chai latte and a slice of polenta cake to share. It was super busy so there was a small wait on food but worth waiting. The portions were quite big so worth knowing about the hlaf potion waffles too.

Does health food meals. Nice idea but over run with snobby customers pretending theyre healthy. I got a few words from some of staff but not overwhelmed with service or friendliness

If you're not hungry, in no rush, and have money to spare, this might be the place for you. My smoothie was nice and arrived in a few minutes. About at least 20 mins later when I'm wondering if they've forgotten my food, the £9.50p poached eggs on toast arrived. The big plate with a ring of green liquid around it only served to over emphasise how small the portion was, two little eggs on one, ONE, long slender slice of toast. Eggs were cooked well with perfect runny yokes, unfortunately the thin dry bread was no where near enough to mop all of them, or the green liquid up. I think I felt hungrier after I left. I was just passing through, next time I'll try somewhere else.

On arrival there were no other customers or staff nearby, so I searched the back of the cafe to find a staff member. Whilst being served I checked their closing time and was told they shut at 5pm. At 4:10 I was asked to leave so they could close. I had only managed to drink half of my very expensive chai before having to exit the premises. I was very disappointed with the service.

Arrived and there was nobody serving. I found a member of staff at the back and was served a drink. I asked what time they closed and staff confirmed they would close at 5pm (this is also the closing time written on the sign on the door). I was subsequently asked to leave at 4pm. I had only managed to get through half my very expensive drink.

Really poor service, bordering on rude, wouldn't return.

Such a lovely place. Can’t think why we haven’t been in to Roost before. Most delicious breakfast in Godalming. Eggs and coffee and toast all delicious and perfectly cooked! Staff really polite and helpful. They allow dogs in too. Won’t go anywhere else now

Cozy cafe serving delicious food - not only gluten free but also catering for vegetarians and vegans. Great choice of drinks, lots of seating inside and a garden at the back. Lovely staff too.

For us, the coffee here is the best tasting in town, served by the friendliest bunch.

My family are a mixture of eating anything, vegan, vegetarian, gluten intolerant and lactose free. Generally very fussy eaters who like high quality. Age range 63 to 1years old. This place caters to all their needs, is flexible, and friendly.

Loved this cafe in Godalming. Offering window seats, cozy tables and an unexpected outdoor seating area, it is the perfect location to grab a bite to eat before or after shopping! The menu offers a range of healthy eating options, including smoothies, as well as homemade sweet treats. We went for poached eggs and bacon on sourdough, poached eggs and avocado and a Flapjack cup. All nicely presented, freshly cooked and served in a timely manner. Dog friendly and friendly on the pocket, it is worth dropping by even if just for a freshly roasted coffee.

Waffles. Always the savory waffles. I could waffle on about waffles. Just order the waffles. And coffee is awesome too.

After trying quite literally every smoothie option in godalming on my way to work every morning I can with confidence say Roost smoothies are by far the best, they taste like actual fruit, are delicious and set me up for the day

Attended the soft launch of the new gin bar in the evening, amazing food, service, great range of gins and cocktails, lot's of locally sourced produce. This will be a great asset to Godalming, fab character and ambience, would totally recommend!

Little garden out the back is really nice. They have REAL Tea! actual leaf tea with a diffuser. Lovely. All the staff are really.nice.

I've been going to Roost in Godalming for over a year now with my adult son with learning disabilities and my very large Great Dane ! What can I say?? Of course the coffee and food are top notch ( the waffles are to die for) the menu is varied, food always delicious, the coffee hits the spot every time ,but in a town full to the brim of coffee shops what makes this one stand out?? .... The staff ! In particular lovely Tom who always welcomes us like old friends, remembers our names and our coffee order, makes a huge fuss of the dog ( who loves him) Tom treats my son with kindness , respect and encouragement, so much so that now he will go to the counter to order our food.The atmosphere in Roost is always happy, friendly and welcoming ,all the staff are cheerful,service is quick and efficient and as a bonus they offer blue light discount! I would and do recommend it to everyone. Our visits make a Saturday extra special 🥰 keep up the good work and Tom, you can never leave !

Had a lovely late lunchtime stop to eat waffles on Tues 2nd May and the lady behind the counter could not have been move lovely and kind to us. The waffles were delish and coffee great too, we will be sure to return

How excited were my daughter and I to find a gluten free cafe. Ordered waffle and coffee which were great. Only given 4 stars though due to mediocre service-more interested in chatting to friend and petting dog (and not washing hands after) and walked away to get herself a glass of water whilst my transaction was going through on the card machine with no thanks. Manners cost nothing but seem lacking these days.

Didn't eat here today but it looked amazing so I'll be back!

My son is gluten-free, and it was a treat for him to be able to choose anything he fancied on the menu. Main courses and cakes were all delicious, in a lovely cosy setting, with friendly staff.

Good espresso, brought to table. Small coffee and food shop. Not too echoey but still able to hold conversation without shouting. Dog friendly.

Ordered a cortado and it was made even though not on the menu. Lovely place to sit and do some work with good music in the background.

Really pleased to find a gluten-free cafe in Godalming taking the stress out of having a meal away from home. My daughter treated me to brunch which was a real treat. Thank you!

Disappointing Asked before ordering if had Wi-Fi and told yes, sat down to do some urgent work… no Wi-Fi and staff in back ground screaming loudly so unprofessional and another customer made a comment as well. Wil not be returning as staff unhelpful when I asked for some help

To be honest, expected a bit more. The staff were pleasant and efficient but the place felt a bit cold and cheerless. We were sitting in the window which was covered in condensation on the inside. A little bit of thought and this could have been wiped down so that at least we could see out. We were only having morning coffee so can't comment on the food. The 'facilities' are clean but very basic.

Tried this place for the first time and was excited to finally find a totally gluten free cafe. I wasn't disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed the homemade food sampling the delicious vegetable soup with croutons followed by a lovely strawberry and banana waffle. My hot chocolate was also great and piping hot and the staff were very efficient and friendly providing us with a quick service. Really look forward to returning and finally delighted to find such a gem and a wonderful gluten free cafe. Look forward to recommending this wonderful cafe to other friends!

I’ve tried to give this place a chance a couple of times but each time sadly the coffee has been really unpleasant. I got a takeaway latte and the coffee to milk ratio was so off I genuinely thought I was drinking warm milk and so much so, I checked the colour of the drink to see if there was any coffee in there…

Service and atmosphere good. Unfotunately, the two latte's and one hot chocolate we had were pretty much cold to the extent that we drank it in pretty much one hit before leaving. I am not sure if you have a problem with your machine or the barista but it was not good

A wonderful atmosphere, decorated in rustic colours, great lighting and a welcoming vibe.. Hot coffee and a delicious, fresh chicken wrap was first class.

Thank you for making my first trip to Godalming enjoyable. We had brunch when we visited and I had my first ever experience of gluten free waffles from a cafe/restaurant (never been able to have them anywhere else before). The food was made from scratch, well presented and yummy. The service was friendly, attentive and quick. I have a few allergies and they were well catered for. Coffee was lovely. My partner had a panini and he isn't gluten free but enjoyed it. We will definitely be back when we are next in the area!

It's ok, the staff are awesome as always and very dog friendly, but the quality of the food is not the same as it was when we first visited, for example poached eggs hard poached? Not sure I like that! All in all a nice place to go to and maybe we just caught the kitchen on a bad day.

Terrible breakfast on top of waiting for nearly an hour breakfast was poorly cooked overdone and sourdough breads were full of water, ended up returning the breakfast, avoid!

Really lovely food and something a bit different. We had the savoury waffle and a chicken wrap and perfect size for lunch. Very friendly staff. And love the quirky, interesting little building.

Very long wait for our food - after about 20 mins we were told that it would take 10-15 minutes longer to cook 2 poached eggs, it was about 30 minutes later that we finally got our food. The eggs unsurprisingly were over cooked and the whites completely separated from the yokes. Waitress didn't seem to understand or care about this.

Not good - average service (more happy to chat to each other than acknowledge my presence), tables all very close together and awful coffee - the worst option in Godalming.

My mum and I visited Roost in Godalming three weekends ago. The guy who took our food order either forgot to put it through to the kitchen or they never received it but we waited for well over an hour for our lunch. When we were finally served our food the mushrooms on toast was such a hilariously small portion for the price that we really regretted coming to Roost and waiting so long. We were offered a free hot drink which we didn't want, but but our original order of coffee wasn't taken off the bill which would have been kind considering how long we waited. Honestly, we would have been better off going literally anywhere else and I suggest you do the same.

Called in casually for lunch and coffee on my friend’s birthday . Delicious range of healthy food choices . Imaginative salads much appreciated , Tasty coffee and a good selection of teas. Warmly welcomed by Tom who especially selected birthday background music . Birthday girl most impressed ! Highly recommended .

Love Roost and visit most weeks! Casual and very friendly atmosphere; the staff are really lovely and thoughtful. Dog and baby friendly, with excellent coffee (I particularly recommend the dirty chai), cakes, and tasty, healthy food, including great veggie options.

Fantastic coffee, super friendly staff and a great vibe. Hidden gem in Godalming! Ended up purchasing Classic Espresso Pods for home that are an absolute delight. Couldn’t recommend this enough!

Delighted to find an eatery that is 100% gluten free in my area, dairy free also available. The staff were very friendly and a really relaxing environment. There was a mix up/delay with our order but it was rectified quickly. Food was fresh, tasty, healthy and priced accordingly. Looking forward to making this a regular lunch time treat. Loved it....

Food was delicious after taking 50 minutes to arrive and felt a bit sorry for the one member of kitchen staff. Front of house had no idea what they are doing, 2 cappuccinos took 30 minutes to arrive and were very bitter, tropical smoothie was very green and brown and didn’t taste tropical at all. Table next to us had the same thing and was a completely different colour, didn’t bother sending it back as we didn’t have the time!

Yummy breakfast! Coffee could be at a better standard. I would suggest avoid if in a rush as the food took 45 minutes, but understandable in today's climate.

We visited at the end of November complete with a dog in tow which they were happy to let in. There was a wide range of food and choices for even the fussiest person in our group! The staff were happy to share recipes and had arrange of items on sale to take away. Another place to visit if we're nearby...

I am ecstatic! It isn’t often that I can go to a cafe (or restaurant) and am totally spoilt for choice. Roost is that rare place that chimes with my way of eating and dietary requirements. They can simultaneously do plant-based, vegan, gluten free, healthy, locally sourced and delicious! That is the way they are, it is their philosophy and I love it. The all day breakfasts - choices for both vegans and meat eaters - were beautifully presented, fresh, tasty and virtuous. The coffee is from the lovely, local Surrey Hills Roastery and made a delicious, impeccably turned out oat milk Mocha. Roost also score points for serving a cloudy organic apple juice. If you want no processed sugars, grain-free with no additives and preservatives - step this way. I will be back for the gluten free waffles, the luscious salads and the chocolate brownies. We were comfortable and enjoyed the unstuffy, modern industrial vibe in a timbered building that hasn’t had the architecture and history ripped out of its fabric. Thank you all at Roost Godalming for a lovely meal - the best I have had out since March 2020.

There are a number of reasons I won't be returning - The seating and atmosphere is cold and uncomfortable - crammed against walls, no room, cold steal chairs - Service was slow - No cakes or snacks - only full meals/breakfasts - Found the server a little curt in talking to us. didn't get friendliness from the place Wish I hadn't of ordered and not an enjoyable experience... Was itching to down my drink and leave. Much better places to go in the area

Waited 30 minutes for 4 hot drinks and an hour after ordering our food still had not arrived.

Lovely place and friendly staff, great service and they are master brewers of tea even using a combination hour glass to time it just perfectly. Excellent experience!!

We just dropped in for coffee. What a delight. The coffee was delicious and hot! As we had only just had breakfast we share a well made flapjack. Looking around I could see some very inviting and unusual salads and other brunch type meals. There was such a choice of small independent eateries nearby. I only wish I lived nearer.

We love going to Roost for a light bite or for lunch. There is a great atmosphere with friendly service. We particularly enjoy their waffles with blueberries, as well as their granola, always beautifully presented. I was tempted to take a star off because the toilets are outside, but the food and service make up for that disadvantage.

The best gluten & dairy free brunch we’ve ever had!!! We couldn’t decide off the menu between a brunch or waffles so had to get both and share! I have to stay away from gluten and dairy and there wasn’t anything on the menu I...

A unique local café, with an emphasis on quality sourcing. Drinks: 6/10, Food 8/10, Service 7/10, Atmosphere 7/10 Total: 28/40 Their coffee is good quality, but not for everyone. It's very acidic in profile and would probably be better as an espresso or Americano than in italian-milk coffees as I think the acidity doesn't pair well. Our food was tasty, the tomatoes and mushrooms in my fry up are well sourced and they had a great full flavour. As with other reviews on here the gluten free sourdough is about as good as gf can be as the lack of gluten will always give it a crunchier profile. I didn't mind it however they just need to give you a proper knife as the knives they have aren't up for the job. They have some unique offerings on their menu, which is a plus for those tired of same same cafe food. Staff are friendly and polite, but service is a bit sluggish. Atmosphere is DIY and hipstery, interior is pleasant, exterior tables need to be resanded. This is a good cafe, i'll be back and would bring friends here quite happily. By refining some details they could be great.

Wonderful homemade food and quality tea and coffee.

Bizzare place. Get told you can't sit on a massive table because the staff are like a bull in a China shop and couldn't weave around us from the kitchen, despite the fact the place was almost empty. Asked for orange juice, told they don't do it and was told to go to the fridge to look at what they've got. Poached eggs on toast rock solid, really unpleasant seeded bread. Avocado was tasty, but like the majority of the menu its over priced. Also, got quizzed if our babies snacks were gluten free or not, because they can't allow gluten in the restaurant. Bit over the top that. Wouldn't bother in the future.

I am gluten free so popped in with the children for breakfast as we were visiting family in Godalming. We ordered poached eggs on toast and two lots of waffles, with smoothies and hot chocolate. Sometimes gluten free food can have a slightly bitter taste...
