Now under new management, offers a large variety of food, most of what we ordered was exceptionally good, the house specials are the most amazing. The service was the highlight of the night as the waiter and the chef was very nice and, down to personally meet us and offered us some on the house drinks.

Very poor quality food served. We ordered duck with rice and beef ho fun rice noodles. Inedible dishes as duck was clearly microwaved and very dry. Beef ho fun was greasy, dried up bits of grisly beef and far too many onions. Very disappointing as we read the Trip Advisor review which seemed ok.

5 minute walk from the Oracle in Reading is the Beijing Noodle House. I was down on business and fancied a Chinese and this was a 5 minute walk from my hotel on a Wednesday night. There were more takeaway delivery people at one end of the restaurant than customers! The restaurant currently does not have a drinks license but you can bring your own. First impressions... not great... very shiny furniture in a drab restaurant that looks like it was designed in the 60’s. There is nothing modern or attractive about this decor. The menu comes from the same time period! I decided to stay as I couldn’t be bothered roaming around to try something else. I wished I had gone for roaming around! The food was promptly served and too be honest was very average at best.... not even worth telling you what I had as suspect the entire menu would get the same rating! The Beijing Noodle House is in a time warp and sadly this does not make it good. It needs a refurb and a menu refresh as well as a licence. The only good thing I can say is the staff were very polite but sorry BNH this is as good as it gets! Would I go back? NO

I had the spicy sweet and sour prawn with fried rice, my daughter had prawns with fried rice and my husband had grilled chicken fried rice. Their portions were surprisingly bigger than expected and the food was good we cleared all our plates. Drinks were Apple and pineapple juice while I said I didn't want any drinks. However I was served a glass of water (tap) and I felt that was good as some other restaurants won't even bother. Bill set us back £28. Enjoyable meal

This was by far the most disgusting meal I have ever had. First of all the outside of the restaurant smelled of urine possibly because of late light revellers etc but tired to put it past us as I have been here many times years before. We were looking for a late lunch place for a quick inexpensive meal and I remembered this place. The place was the same except the plastic menus were deeply frayed and smelled. The radiator next to us was dirty and desperately needed a clean. The table qas sticky and the place looked dark and lacked care. The staff and the cooks are now Nepalese and the older Chinese lady from a few years ago is gone. My husband noticed they had a Malaysian section which has Nasi Lemak one of my favourite dishes. A delicious Malaysian dish of fragrant coconut rice, sambal (thick, spicy and flavourful chili paste cooked down either with anchovies or just with onions), eggs, peanuts and occasionally served with chicken or water spinach (kangkong). The abomination that arrived was nothing like a nasi lemak. It was like the cook who had absolutely no idea how to cook the dish was asked to create the dish after shown a photo and given a brief description of the dish. The rice had clearly just had coconut cream stirred in after it had been cooked, there were cashews instead of peanuts and the sambal was ice cold. It had basically chili paste and some sort of half cooked black shrimps (never ever seen shrimps this black/grey) that tasted really weird. The texture and taste didn't sit right with me. The chicken was basically deep fried chicken chop that was hard and difficult to chew served with a sickly thick slop of some sort of curry flavoured sauce. The only thing I could stomach was the egg. The rice wasn't cooked fully and ervything else was just awful. My plate sat there uneaten and none of the staff stopped to ask or showed concern. My husband was so hungry as he missed breakfast that he ate some of it with a very uneasy face. We sat there wondering if the prawns were going to cause problems with our stomachs. We asked for the bill and I told the waitress what I though and she was of the opinion that the management wouldn't care. We stayed there for a while thinking someone was going to come by . Tru enough we were charged the full amount and no acknowledgement of the complaint. We ended up going to Thai Place around the corner for some starters as I was starving and what a change that was. Save your money and time. Go some where else. They are not Chinese or Malaysian food experts and it's clear the old owners and cooks have left. The current chefs and see trying to replicate the menu unsuccessfully might I add.

I went to Beijing Noodle House for lunch today before doing my shopping. I am quite a regular customer there because the price of the food is quite reasonable. The Wonton Noodle was delicious. Apart from the noodles and 4 pieces of big wontons, they also added in big chunks of leafy vegetables, which I like very much. However, I was disappointed with the so-called Japanese tea, which was actually Chinese tea. Normally I ordered Chinese tea whenever I dined there but, today I wanted Japanese tea for a change, and repeatedly told the waitress not to mistake Chinese tea for Japanese tea. To my disappointment, she brought me a teapot of Chinese tea because the label attached to the teabag clearly stated so (and I can read Chinese)! When my food arrived later (after my tea was being served), I informed her that the tea was actually Chinese tea (it clearly also stated Jasmine tea from China) but she insisted that it was Japanese tea! She was a Nepalese lady and I know that she could not differentiate between Chinese and Japanese teas (and it was not her fault). However, I feel that the owner should not put Japanese tea in the menu (when there is none in the restaurant) because nowadays many customers do know the differences between these two types of teas! Alternatively, the owner should buy the authentic Japanese tea and inform the waiting staff to serve appropriately when teas are being ordered. I like the food there but there is a lack of variety for the drinks. Initially I ordered Chrysanthemum tea but I was told there was none. This was not the first time it happened, so it is high time that teas which do not actually exist there be omitted from the menu!

Despite the unassuming exterior and less-than-impressive look in through the restaurant through the window, it quickly became one of my favourite restaurants in Reading after my first visit. It is quirky and unpretentious, with friendly staff and a comfortable setting.Seating can take a while: the restaurant attracts large groups and it seems they have one waiter to seat you and take payment, with another to serve food. The menu is slightly chaotic, without much description of how each dish will be served (vermicelli and ramen being among the different options), but once one becomes accustomed to that the ordering process becomes rather simple. On my first visit I ordered the "seafood udon", which came as a ramen. The soup was improved with a little extra salt and soy sauce, though it could have done with a little extra seafood itself. The soup base was standard Chinese soup stock, with a pleasant mix of vegetables and some very good bok choi. The mussels and prawns were tasty, but the calimari was excellent; if only there had been more of it.The duck chow mein, on my next visit, was a lot better than the soup. It needed no extra seasoning, and came in a very large portion size that I struggled to finish - especially after some excellent pork dumplings as a starter. The fish on my third visit was very good, though I think their duck chow mein is the winner of the dishes I tried. The Japanese fish in tomato sauce dish was, however, very good. The sauce was a little spicy, but the fish was very full of flavour in an excellently textured homemade batter. It was odd, having a chow mein on the side in a spicy tomato sauce, but surprisingly the combination worked well. Prices on the menu are all incredibly reasonable, and I have never had a bad experience with the staff. I did, on my second visit, have to exchange the cup my coke was served with as it was dirty, but this was done quickly without complaint. Reading has a distinct shortage of decent Chinese food, and this is not an Anglo-Chinese restaurant so much as it is, as the title reads, a noodle house. However, it is well worth a visit; I cannot recommend it highly enough for a decent noodly meal.

After many years of passing by this restaurant in favour of the other Chinese buffet restaurants in Reading I was pleasantly surprised to find this place offered a good selection of authentic Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Malaysian rice and noodle dishes. There is an excellent vegetarian selection and the stock in the vege soup noodle dishes is vegetarian too. For £5-7 pounds you get a big portion. Atmosphere is like a cafe but staff friendly and I found service to be perfect but then it was 6pm on a weekday and fairly quiet. I believe the Ho Fun noodles are home made so I will try those next time instead of the rice noodles!

I only went here at 5.45 on a weekday evening as the Thai Corner across the road didn't open until 6 and I was on a tight schedule. It is certainly cheap, and this should have rung alarm bells as I'm a strong believer that you get what you pay for! but there were a few asian groups and couples which I normally take to be a good sign so I braved it. I ordered the beef Rendang curry with rice. I got Chinese chip shop curry sauce with mainly onion and a few sad 1cm pieces of tough beef. I couldn't eat it - it was terrible. luckily I had ordered some chicken satay for starter which arrived moments after the main course (!) and the sauce on this was lovely, so I ate my rice with the chicken satay, this raised the rating from 1 to 2 stars. I wish I'd waited until 6 and gone over the road!

Called in after an evening out and on first impression it looks a bit scruffy, tackily decorated, tatty placemats but appearances can be deceptive that's why we chose to give it a try.Ordered easily for a big menu that seemed a bit repetitive and our dumpling starter arrived. Steamed prawn dumplings - gorgeous. Pork dumplings with ginger and vinegar dipping sauce - delicious. Our mains arrived before the starter dishes had been taken away, almost as soon as we had finished eating. Spicy noodle dish (mee goreng) was pleasantly edible but absolutely nothing special, small amount of meat and no chilli at all! Special nasi goreng was dark brown fried rice with tiny pieces of chicken, minute shrimps and a few flecks of char sui with a handful of peas and topped with a few bits of spring onion. Tasteless and greasy. Very disappointed after lovely starter.

This is one of the most unpretentious restaurants in Reading, not much changed from the long established previous incarnation (Hong Hong) apart from maybe some new tables. Everyone in here seems to be either drunk or carrying a thousand Primark bags, or both. The food is tasty and fresh, portions are generous and the house wine is excellent. There's lots of vegetarian choice, a good range of specials and sides. Meals are around £4 - £7 and the only gripe is the slow service. If you're happy to wait, this is a great place to meet with friends and a bargain compared to other town centre restaurants. Tucked away down West Street, it's a refreshing change from all the glass sided, flashy, Oracle nonsense.

Only grip was 3 people went and they brought up our individually so when the first had finished eating the 3rd had only just started otherwise it would have got cold while we waited and we ordered prawn crackers to nibble while we waited but they were brought during the meal. this is not the usual service for this place so hope it was a one off.Otherwise would have got 5 stars

While we have been Beijing noodle house greet us well and help to choose their special food in the house. Restaurant was full decorations by Chinese design way. Seafood noodle was so delicious with spicy on top. Specially recommend for lunch and dinner .

Colleagues mid-week evening out after some beers brought us here; after I had read TripAdvisor.I must say that the food was really really good. Not oily or sloppy at all. We had a couple of soups, noodles and a few sides dishes, and there was not a sinlge fault I could find with any of it.The only thing was that the service was very amateurish, but then that's not unusual for this type of food place.Definitely be going back there.

One of our favourite restaurants in Reading city centre. The portions are very generous, the food is tasty and they offer a good variety of dishes, including Malaysian and Thai specials. The order never takes long to get on the table and the staff is always sincerely friendly and helpful. We love their dumplings, Singapore Laksa and Nasi Lemak.

I have been here for the first time a couple of days ago with my friends.I order a plate of fried noodles and my friends soups.I like the noodles, well done and I saw that everyone of us enjoyed the dinner. The enviroment was nothing special but anyway it was all right, and the price was correct; just one thing wasn t positive, because we had to wait a bit until they collect the orders and and they didn t serve the plates at the same time but with a difference of minutes between the first and the last.Anyway I enjoyed the time in Noodle House

Visited here with my mum who was very particular with wanting Chinese cuisine. Recommended by a friend, this was my first time here. Polite and professional service from the waitress and an awful lot of menu choices. I was in the mood for a black bean sauce vegetarian option for which there wasn't one, but there were plenty of other options.Prompt delivery of the food and we weren't disappointed. You don't expect much for the price you pay, but it delivered that and a bit extra. Perfect for a quick, inexpensive lunch in town. Two starters, two mains and two soft drinks for just over £18.Definitely will come again.

I had a takeaway of beef in black bean sauce with fried rice. It was under £5, but when I got back to my hotel - a 1 minute walk - the rice was barely tepid. Which raises a food safety flag.I know you get what you pay for, but it would have been better if they had left some things out: whatever the brown slop was that they soaked the rice in, it would have worked better with plain steamed rice.I won't be going back.

Great oriental restaurant that I'd recommend to many folk. Soups come in huge bowls and the portions for the other food is good. Had a good time and would come again. Definitely worth a visit just for the soup experience.

Dinner at around 7pm on a Tuesday night. Two other tables taken. One of which, it transpired, was waiting for a takeaway. Decor is interesting. Huge, ornately framed prints of what I think were French, pre-revolution scenes. I had a laminated picture of chips as my place-mat.The menu is very extensive. Chop sticks and chilli oil are offered on ordering. I had pork dumplings (£4 for 4), with good pastry and a pleasing vinegar dip. Satay tofu was less good. The satay sauce needed some stronger seasoning. But £2.50 for a couple of skewers. My main dish was duck on fried noodles (£6.50). A bit greasy, but tasty.Staff were friendly. It is a bit of a greasy spoon, but honest. Mostly tasty, with some interesting options I didn't get to on the menu. Would come back.

We went here as a friend had recommended it. Overall we had a nice lunch. Our starters were chicken filo rolls and BBQ spare ribs. Our mains were duck (cantonese style) and crispy roast pork. All of these items were cooked well.We did not like the fried rice as it had a funny after taste and did not look appetising - so next time we will have the boiled rice instead. The menu offers lots of options. Portion sizes for the mains were generous. We thought the prices were very reasonable. The service was good. The toilets were clean. It's a place to consider visiting if you want somewhere that is a little unusual and not part of a chain. We liked it and will go back.

This restaurant was recommended by my colleague at work. She raves about it. And how right she was !!I have never been a fan of the take away Chinese which taste all the same. But this is very different. I have tried it few times now & it has never disappointed me so far. Had momo as starters. Have tried various combinations of noodles. And they are really good. My kids love their sweet & sour pork/chicken with fried rice & they are delicious. The portions are really generous. The restaurant is quiet spacious inside even though it does not look much from outside. The service has always been quick which is so handy when you are in a lunch break. Also they do parcels which can be ordered before hand & picked up on the way to home. All in all a very satisfied customer.

A Chinese equivalent of a greasy spoon cafe. The meal was inexpensive but that's about the only positive thing I have to say.

My friends took me here for a meal while out shopping. The staff were all friendly and the atmosphere was good. The service was fairly quick but it wasn't very busy when we ordered. The menu had a lot of choice.I ordered the chicken with mushroom and boiled rice. We shared dumplings, pancake rolls, and duck pancakes. The pancake rolls were the best I've tried so far. The portion sizing of the chicken with mushroom and boiled rice was perfect and it was tasty. My friends ordered noodle soups, they came in large bowls and look really good, I'll be trying one of those next time!We asked for trays for our left over food and that was no problem. The prices were good and the flavours were good.

We went for a quick lunch during half term. The restaurant was full enough to create a good atmosphere and the service was prompt. The bowls of soup were huge, really tasty and excellent value. Likewise the stir fried rice was very acceptable. I'd definitely recommend for a good honest Chinese meal.

This small restaurant has quite a wide range of chinese & asian dishes on offer and the prices are most affordable. We were quite impressed with the sweet & sour pork served with egg fried rice, fried noodles, dumplings, soup noodles, etc. We've had better but then the prices were also much higher. Overall, we'd rate it as very good for the price that you're paying for your meal

I went to done in the afternoon and ordered a seafood dish, whilst eating I choked and I was shocked to find that my crabs tick was completely still in it's plastic packaging. I called the waiter and showed him as I went to take a pic he took my plate away. I asked the manager to call me and refused to pay for any of our meals as I was still coughing from this experience! All the manager is worried about is why I didn't pay no sympathy shown or apologies for his cooks mistake. It's disgusting that there is no customer service and no training in this place seriously what makes most angry is that if I was to have chocked to death he would not even send my family a sympathy card I bet right (bleep)

I am not a massive fan of going with the flow so I like to venture to little restaurants like this for more of an experience and I was not let down, neither were the other 15+ people in my group that I convinced to eat here (rather than the normal quick eat options that people these days always go for)This place is brilliant and they were very well accommodating for our large group and the food started off slow but then came out very fast and every one person in our group was overly happy and everyone was so friendly.Next time I am in the City I will be returning as I think this was a great find and the city central location was perfect. My compliments to the Chef... Very well done Sir/Madame.(I have put late night food but it was only in fact about 8-9pm)

I love this little place in Reading. I've been walking past this restaurant for years and always wanted to try it. Last night, I went with the flow and decided to try it out. Excellent food!! better than I expected it. I had the fried beef with Japanese Udon noodles in black bean sauce and it did not disappoint me at all! Fresh flavours, noodles cooked to perfection and you could tell it was all freshly made. Service was good too, polite and with a smile. Excellent value as well, I ate very well for about £9!!All I would suggest is a bit of an update on the furniture/place with improvement of the lighting (sometimes you can't tell if it's open or not when walking past it!). But that's is just my opinion, don't let this minor need of refurbishment stop you from trying the yummy food there!

Best fried rice in Reading and yeah I am local. Have tried almost every restaurant in Reading. Very reasonable cost and your tummy is sure to be full. It's in fact owned by Nepalese family so you can get some secret off menu Nepalese dishes like "Mo:Mo:" and "Sukuti". Try "Bala Chan Fried Rice" and thank me later. You're welcome.

I love this place. Very friendly and attentive staff. The food is quite simply, amazing. Great quality, tasty ingredients and you gets loads on your plate for not much dosh. What more can you ask for? The music is pretty random as are the wall-hangings, some of which feature typical Chinese scenes interspersed with scenes of English nobility and royalty. It's like going to a family gathering and finding your favourite Aunt is going to be there, the eccentric one who knits all her own clothes and swears like a navvy. The Beijing Noodle House is an honest, quirky, fun place to go to and eat out in. Highly recommended.

The food they serve has so much comfort and homely. Out Must have includes Steam monos, puri tarkari, and macha bhaja. If you are looking for authentic nepali cuisine food, then you just found one. Loved the food, atmosphere and courteous staff. Once again, nothing beats good food.
