A return visit today for my birthday lunch. As before everything was perfect. The food is fantastic - really fresh and a seasonal varied menu - something for all tastes. The staff are really knowledgeable about the food and local wines and the service is great. I even got a lovely complimentary birthday dessert. Will definitely be returning again for my birthday next year.

We thought £15 was a bit steep for a continental breakfast (£6 extra for the hot part) so we expected it to be absolutely amazing - we were very disappointed. Their website states "slow-rise sourdough from the bakery oven and warm croissants", the reality was bread that was so stale you had to toast it to make it edible, and stale croissants and pains au chocolats. I complained to a member of staff to be told that they buy their pastries in frozen then heat them up in their ovens, she went back to the kitchen and they sent her out with - another box of stale croissants - it was absolutely appalling given that they claim to have their own in house bakery, there was however no aroma whatsoever of any fresh baking taking place. The rest of the breakfast fayre was also sub standard for £15, the only freshly prepared fruit was melon. The only fruit juice was cloudy apple, I requested orange juice and was told it would come from a box, I would have expected freshly squeezed oj for a £15 continental breakfast. I find it perplexing that they say they have an in house bakery, yet appear unable to serve any fresh bakery products at breakfast. The in house bakery opened up at 9.30 am but none of those products were available at their breakfast, even the croissants were different. You have to question the management's decision to economise by putting out stale bakery products for breakfast, particularly to customers who are paying hundreds of pounds a night to stay there. We were offered no customer recovery whatsoever when I complained and we decided after this awful breakfast offering that we will not be visiting the Bedruthan in the future, although we have been frequent visitors in the past.

I feel after all the amazing reviews on here, maybe I’m being a little critical, but we are disappointed. The building needs demolishing. And whilst everything is ‘nice’ it’s not amazing. The rooms are large, but cheaply furnished, and if you have the stunning sea views, you don’t have a window to open for air, or air con. The location is simply stunning. The Wild Cafe. Ok, average food, both for the children and for dinner, but the worst thing is it’s filthy. Now, we appreciate this is a hotel for families, that’s why we are here, we have a two year old, but we ate dinner, amongst other couples, and the floor was littered with the detritus from the children’s tea time, and I mean littered. Nothing a dustpan and brush wouldn’t have cured but as we left they were setting up for breakfast (this was 9.20pm) and the floor was still covered with food. The bathrooms are abysmal. We had expected a better standard if I’m honest. And I’m sure management will argue that this is sold as a child friendly hotel - in which case where was the toiletries for children. A potty. Plus socket covers for the plug sockets right next to the single beds. Not one touch when we arrived to indicate they had a precious small guest staying. As I said, it’s nice, but it could be so much more.

We headed there for Sunday lunch to celebrate Mother's Day. The roast option was fantastic and so much nice food, it comes out for the whole party on a board and you serve it yourself. Special praise for the vegetarian option for one of our party they had their own version and a very large portion of really good food. Similar set up for dessert too which was delicious. Stunning location and views with a window table and friendly staff this is a great place for lunch. The only minor criticism is the children's menu, good selections but seemed to be inconsistent as our youngest (3) had a burger and the portion was massive and our eldest had a pizza which was tiny! Looking at other kids we felt the pizza lacked the quantity of all the other kids options. Overall though it was great and we will be back.

It is amazing to eat excellent food and have a view!I sat watching the beach at Mawgan Porth as a gale blew in and soaked an already wet landscape. But I was in the restaurant at Bedruthan Steps and enjoying a delicious curry cooked with seasonal vegetables. It was made all the more tastier as I watched that gale blow. The restaurant is a lovely place to be on any day but I had been there on sunny days - never on wet, windy autumn days. The curry was replaced with a chocolate torte which melted in the mouth. The food, ambiance and restaurant are amazing - best to experience on a lovely sunny day where you can shed the pounds you have eaten with a stroll on the beach. But this was a unique and new experience for me.

We went in for the last meal of our one week stay. I must say, the quality of the food was very high. The parsnip soup starter was of a very high standard, I never thought I would be impressed by parsnip soup! I had the duck for mains which was excellently cooked, though I wasn't too keen on the sweet potato (maybe cut into pieces or a sweet potato hash brown type thing) as it was almost whole, and a little undercooked in the middle for my liking. Everything else on the plate was excellent though. Treacle tart with clotted cream finished off the meal nicely. The setting is very relaxed, and the restaurant offers panoramic views of the sea. There is also a good choice of wine and ale, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Maybe not a place to take children, which the restaurant upstairs would be better to accommodate.

I was very disappointed as we had to wait for 30 mins for our drinks, we could see them ready on the bar for at least ten minutes as well. We decided to go for the roast dinner as it was very good on our last visit. However this time round the food was served warm and following that the puddings were very small and tasteless. Luckily I went in the day before to have a look, as they didn't have my booking for 10 down - we'd have been very disappointed if we'd turned up and there hadn't been any room for us. The staff were helpful in picking a good table with a view for my parents who were celebrating their 80th birthdays. We ate in the upstairs restaurant (same menu as downstairs and probably better views as it's higher up) because children under 14? aren't allowed in the 'posh' restaurant. Nice varied menu. Not too expensive. Childrens choices too. Good wine list. The waiter was a little too 'relaxed' but friendly and polite. Unfortunate that two of the dishes we ordered had missing ingredients when they turned up and the staff didn't really seem to care.

I had been wanting to stay at this hotel for such a long time, I was delighted to find out about an offer from their newsletter. From the outside you cannot imagine how lovely it is inside. Staff super friendly and kind, and it is all genuine and not over the top. The spa is fun and relaxed , again with good servicem I adored the breakfast overlooking Mawgan Porth, beautiful even with the rain and wind. The basic rooms are big with lots of storage. The only thing I would say is there is way too much furniture in the room and some items could be removed to give it more space. The deco is perfect and I love the natural soap and shampoo bars. I also wish there wasn't such a price difference on the sea view rooms. We were only booked to stay for a night, but I was enjoying myself so much, I didn't want to leave. So we popped down to reception to ask about room availability. They were wonderful and found an excellent rate for us to stay an extra night in the same room. Overall great and a wonderful big complex to explore and get lost in. I look forward to a return visit and the service really makes it. Better than a five star upmarket London hotel by far!

Just popped in to the Restaurant with friends for a quick lunchtime snack. Members of the party had a range of food which was considered OK. After ordering we had to wait rather too long before the food arrived. I had sweet potato and apple soup which seemed to be based on tomato and was unusually sweet but tasted OK. Fresh home made bread accompanied the dish but I had to ask for butter. Wife had crab bisque soup - bowl of soup which looked just like mine but with a little pot of white crab meat. But at £7.50 it was top price.Others had tapas which seemed to be fairly generous portions and was said to be tasty. The pulled meat burger was accompanied with a reasonable portion of chips and was finished off completely. But at £12.00 was not cheapWhat this restaurant has is a great play room for children which is just down the corridor form the restaurant. We were able to take our coffee in there to watch the kids play but in paper cups. The view from the restaurant of the wonderful Cornish coast which adds another star to any such place. The Herring restaurant is a great place to eat. Firstly, the views over the sea are sublime (especially during sunset). The service is impeccable, the waiters and waitresses were all very engaging, and couldn't do more to help. The menu is limited, only 6 mains were on the menu during my stay, but the duck I had was fantastic. The rest of my party were equally pleased with the food. The prices are high (£20 for a main), and that's probably £5 too much. Desserts were far too expensive (£10), even though the chocolate mousse was lovely. The best parts of the restaurant is the friendly staff, lovely view, great food and the only thing that is slightly negative is the price, which is perhaps a little too high. During my stay at the hotel, there was elderflower champagne available, which was one of the best drinks I've ever tried, and it's even made on site!

Not sure how my parents found out about this place, but we called in and booked at The Wild Café (they also have one called The Herring, not sure if it’s better) after having a look at the impressive sounding menu. The service was wonderful – a friendly Polish lady served us throughout our evening and she was funny and chatty. I ordered haddock fillet in mussel and saffron broth which was good, the fish was done to perfection. However, my parents weren’t overly fond of their dishes – my dad called his pork dish “hugely disappointing”… whoops! However, the wonderful puddings saved the evening. My parents had cherry panacotta which they liked (I tried some, it was indeed yummy) and I had some raspberry and chocolate cranachan which I’d never tried before but would definitely have again after tonight. The service and pudding saved the evening, great shame about the main courses!

The view was amazing from our table and the service brilliant. Very friendly and helpful staff.I booked in the Wild Cafe which was nice on a previous lunch at the restaurant. However, I should have really gone to The Herring restaurant as the vegetarian menu was much nicer! My husband had a lovely meal but as usual the vegetarian options were limited and uninspiring. When you pay about £80 for a meal in my opinion the main meal should be more than a bowl of pasta! We went to the cocktail bar for a drink and watched the sunset which was very enjoyable.

Walked in on Good Friday and could immediately feel the tension disappear. It's the type of place where the kids have freedom and fun with masses of activities for all ages (ours are 10 and 13). Straight to the outdoor pool for sunbathing and an April swim - surprisingly warm - and even caught a bit of a Cornish suntan. From superb dining (veggie kids brilliantly catered for) through to spa and indoor pool, tennis, pool, jungle tumble - even teenagers joined in- we had a superb time. With time for papers, books and relaxing, adults sit with shoes of and feet up in comfy sofas. Beautiful surroundings inside and out all topped of with cocktails by the magic mixologist Ian who surprised us every evening with wonderful concoctions. Adults dinner at The Scarlet took fine dining to a new level. With sadness we leave and look forward to planning our next visit down for a Cornish treat. Can't recommend highly enough!

We loved this hotel ... It's the most amazing hotel for children and adults alike ... Amazing entertainment for the little ones .. We had snakes and lizards one night a magician another ... They are entertained while we get to enjoy a pre dinner cocktail from the bar .. Made impeccably..,my husband and children had surf lessons with the fantastic instructor ... They are now addicted and surf weekly! It's just wonderful .. When we don't have the children the scarlett hotel is a fabulous retreat .. It's the sister hotel across the road ..l suggest you book the children in to a kids club .. Wander across to the scarlett read the paper and have a coffee while enjoying the calm and tranquility .

Having stayed several times over the last couple of years with the family and loved it we decided to pop in for a light lunch ... it was expensive poor quality and not as I remembered. I ordered a crab sandwich for circa £10 not great poor presentation stale bread we advised the staff it was not great ... fell on deaf ears im sorry to say ... The views are still as stunning as ever and the hotel is spotlessly clean as usual ... suggest changing to a crap sandwich as this better reflects what was served. We had not been back as a family since just after they chanced the dining arrangements to meal credits as we did not enjoy this at all on our last visit and have not been back .Given the cost of accommodation you could potentially take your family to Barbados as we do also for similar money and feel you as the guest should be given a choice to simply have dinner bed and breakfast rather than meal plan credits and daily allowances ...as this is not want guests like myself are really looking for from a break away.

We had heard good things about 'Herring' previously and although the hotel itself hadn't really been our cup of tea previously, we decided to give Herring a go. I won't lie and say we weren't a little concerned as we wanted somewhere special for our last night of our holiday, showing our parents the delights of North Cornwall. We need not have worried in the slightest. The service from the very beginning was excellent. The restaurant ambiance was great, the decor funky and fresh. It was Halloween and the waiting staff had all made an effort. There was however nothing scary about the food. The starters showed great depth of flavour, real delicacy and balance. The mains were all excellent and the portions were generous. We opted for a Fiano which was crisp, dry and a good foil for most dishes. The veal, cod and pork were all excellent but perhaps the pork crackling could have done with just a bit more crispness. The deserts were superb, the Chocolate Fondant well worth the extra 15 minutes and the Brownie, chocolate sorbet were met with a mixture of whoops and groans of delight. In summary it was an excellent meal. We've eaten in some exceptional restaurants, we've eaten in some that perhaps have got a bit complacent or even think that their food is so good that hospitality and the overall experience can be ignored. Herring got it all just right. Everyone happy, everyone full of praise, more than happy to visit again and recommend it warmly. Compliments to Ben Harmer and the Front of House team.

Came as a last minute treat with our 6 year old. Our apartment was big, bright and had the most amazing views. Very clean bathroom and bed was huge. It was quite a way to walk to the eating areas, i got lost on one occasion ! The apartment area did have astrange "damp" like aroma and lots of cobwebs.Children could only eat in the Wild Cafe not The Herring - well they could but not after 6pm. The food was fantastic, the service was fantastic..the breakfast was the BEST ! lots of choice and local produce. The system they use for using your food entitlement is a little confusing, only being able to use it on food and not alcohol, and no soft drinks...it would be far easier without this. Children were not allowed in the bar areas and not in the main restaurant...this is being sold as a family friendly hotel. The soft ball area needed a good clean to be honest. All in all we had a lovely family relaxing afternoon and evening...we were in bed at 8pm as there was nothing for children after 7pm. Wonderful location, close to so many beaches and local places of interest...but was it really worth £335 a night ??! :(

Stayed for a week in June, what a fantastic hotel. Although geared for young families also perfect for a couples getaway.Ate most evenings in the wild cafe, not a massive menu but always specials available. Fish was superb. Breakfast also one of the best I have experienced with fresh fruit home made jams, fresh yogurt etc etc. kept us going all day. They charge extra for a sea facing view and some rooms are nicer than others. You can ask for one of the newly refurbished rooms . Lots of little touches like if your baby won't settle they encourage you to come downstairs to the lounge where you will be supplied fresh coffee by the night porter he will even warm the babies milk. This really is a first rate hotel that try to go the extra mile, go on treat yourselves you won't be disappointed! We will be back soon.

Fantastic view across the bay, watching the surfers and enjoying some simple but very good food. My wife and I enjoyed the salads which were most inventive, my daughter had a very tasty smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich on the freshest granary bread ever ( it was actually a round and a half with a scoop of salad) and my son's steak sandwich on a freshl baked crusty roll was perfect. The restaurant is full of primary colours and slightly childish but you can't beat that view - or the value for money food.

I ate in this restaurant for Sunday Lunch and it was very good. The portion was huge, and it was beef and pork. The only thing that let it down, was the veg, most was really good, but they put a kind of mediteranian rattatouie with olives in it, on the plate, and although this was nice, it just didn't go with the Sunday lunch theme, and overpowered everything. The staff were all lovely, and price was great £13.50 for the one course, or £18.50 for two, but I couldn't manage a pud, as the dinner was so large.

The view with a setting sun set is worth the trip to the WildCafe. Friendly staff and great decor was slightly let down by the food which as it pitches itself as being at the heart of the gourmet coast located between Jamie's 15 and Rick's Seafood Place was disappointing. The food was average, lacking in depth of flavour with combinations that did not quite pay off. Overall enjoyed the visit but would not return.

Having been seriously disappointed with Fifteen at Watergate a few weeks before, we were looking for a good lunch venue around Newquay to celebrate our anniversary. Previous reviews were good so I e mailed cafe to make a reservation and mentioned it was a special occasion. I always thought the hotel looked a bit drab from the outside but had never been in before. The cafe was light with contemporary furnishings and a lovely big window looking on to the beach. Every bit as good as Fifteen so far. We were given a great table by the window and then a couple of glasses of Prosecco appeared, on the house because it was our anniversary. I was gobsmacked! What a fabulous gesture. We opted for the Sunday lunch and it was truly magnificent. Two kinds of meat, loads of vegetables, separate gravy & apple sauce boats. All cooked to perfection. Desert was bread & butter pudding and crumble. Neither of us are keen on bread pudding but I must say it was delicious. It came with custard but I asked for ice cream which came without any fuss. The custard though was real custard with vanilla flecks., lovely. The waitress was excellent and we had a good chat afterwards. The price was a big surprise, about a third of Jamie Oliver's place. I would never go there again but the Wild Cafe is a wonderful venue and I'm still raving about it to friends. Can't fault a thing, long may it continue!,,

I would just like to say thank you to the Bedruthan Hotel & Spa for an amazing Saturday evening meal in the Herring Restaurant. After following you on Twitter I thought I must book up and I am very glad I did. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 course meal. It was his birthday and our waitress Bryony asked if we had traveled far and what our occasion was for dining with you that evening, once I had said it was my boyfriends birthday, minutes later she brings over 2 beautifully presented strawberry champagne cocktails. Which were very refreshing I must say. Each course that came out was superb, especially loved the Cornish mackerel with pak choi, curry paste and coconut (would love to try this at home) it was mouthwatering. After our mains which was also heaven we had dessert. My boyfriend being a lover of carrot cake ordered that and you guys went all out and gave him a plate which said Happy Birthday in chocolate. He was very impressed. We will be returning very soon with friends and family as I can not fault this little place of heaven. Thank you once again. Taor xPS the sunset finished it off perfectly

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.
