Love this place. Always visit whenever in Cornwall. Can be busy but this is a good sign. If eating in be sure to write your name in the book on far side of the bar, this will ensure speedy service (they do not take bookings). This is truly a family run business with the head of house taking pride even though she is in her golden years. Best fish and chips in Cornwall

Decided to give Becks fish and chips a try after reading previous positive reviews. When turning up to the carpark, we noticed there was a big queue which made us hopeful we were in for a treat. Upon receiving our order we noticed some of our food was missing, which we let go due to the big portions and the waiting time. Unfortunately if you like a soggy mess-this is the place for you! Although the only positive was the fish was very tasty however it was a shame the amount of grease accompanied it. Extremely disappointing!

Absolutely incredible fish and chips. For someone with coeliac disease, it was absolutely perfect. Staff so knowledgeable about gluten free and such a range of products! Definitely recommend

Great service and delicious fish and chips. Clean plates all round. Definitely recommend it if you get a chance. Food was super fresh, piping hot and cod was cooked to perfection. Really tasty and crispy batter....who cares if the ketchup isn't heinz or the vinegar isn't Parsons like other people have commented. The main attraction slaps hard. Well done 👏

We had takeaway late afternoon on a Friday. We had a regular haddock and hake and a battered sausage and two regular chips. We didn't have to wait long for it to be ready. The fish were much bigger than average and they were big portions of chips, so there was more than enough for two adults and two young children. It was all very good.

Loved it great Hake and chips. Very good value. We rocked up at 19:30 and got a table after a 30 min wait.

We live 15 minutes from Becks and used the take away, we thought we would try them again after several months abstension but unfortunately there has been absolutely no change whatsoever from my last review Greasy soggy skerrick chips, the fish is fresh and tasty but the batter same as the chips is greasy and soggy as well, i personally think they just dont care and with that attitude we wont be returning for a long time They used to be fantastic 2 to 3 years ago but not anymore We Wouldnt recommend especially if you have a sensitive stomach to grease

Best chippy I've ever been to, home cooked food on a professional scale, great staff and good prices. Bought a feast, a few recommendations after chatting to locals, and had leftovers. 👍

After being severely let down by another chip in Penzance, we tried here after a recommendation from a gluten free community on Facebook. Yes, there was a queue but the staff were very quick and efficient. There was a very nice young man who kept coming out to the queue and taking pre orders so by the time you got to the front, your order was ready to go. The fish and chips were amazing!! The fish was absolutely huge and a massive portion of chips (not the best photo) Also, separate fryers, hot hold cabinet and tongs were used for my gluten free fish, so I felt extra safe!! Would highly recommened.

Spotted this coming out of Carbis Bay after a rather abortive restaurant run. Nice fish and chips, fast service, they do have a large cafe area too. Big carpark and seems very popular.

Visited for dinner on the last night of our holiday in Carbis Bay. We had a brilliant evening and loved everything about Becks. Great to sit in the bar area and take in the atmosphere whilst enjoying a drink waiting for a table to be available . It was full of local families enjoying themselves and when the food came we could see why! Delicious fish and absolutely enormous! Chips and mushy peas were lovely. Onion rings with glass like batter. Wine was decent enough and good value. Would definitely return if we came back to Carbis Bay.

Booked for 50 plus members of our car club to attend for an evening meal at Becks, No problems at all during the whole evening, it went like clockwork. The food was fresh and hot and perfectly presented, nothing too much trouble for the Staff during the whole meal. Thank you to the Management you have a team to be proud of.

Visited here as part of a trip to Cornwall, absolutely fantastic, really good quality fish from someone that knows how to fry it and the service was fantastic. Would definitely visit again, it is very good to see good quality product.

Enjoyed it so much we went twice while in the area. First time we had the fish curry and second time fish and chips. Both meals were excellent and served by lovely staff. Large airy restaurant with great facilities.

Good was delicious however service was slow and disorganised. We got our food before our drinks.

As a family of 9 on holiday, we had our last evening meal at the end of our holiday in this fish and chip restaurant. We were not disappointed and wished we had found this gem of a place earlier in the week! Great food, lots of variety, and very reasonably priced. Service was quick and efficient. Staff were all very friendly. If we are ever back in Carbis Bay we look forward to visiting you again.

The restaurant was very busy when we arrived and you can't book a table in advance, but there's a very nice bar area to wait in until a table is available. The staff were very efficient and friendly. We all ordered fish and chips which arrived quite quickly and were amazing, well worth going for.

Absolutely fantastic system with ordering drinks at the bar before you sit down at the table. Wish more restaurants were doing the same. Get a drink, pay for it right away and it makes it so much easier for customers and staff. Food was really nice, huge portion. A shame that they use cheap ketchup though but that's probably a norm for most of places. Would recommend.

We were reluctant to go out for dinner on our holiday after such poor service in other eateries in North Cornwall. So we were absolutely delighted to be given the best experience here! The food is generous and delicious and the service comes with a huge smile. A place that is clearly popular - we revisited on the final night of our week away because it was all so yummy!

Best fish and chips I have had ever!! Photo is of the seabass my husband had. I had cod and chips, and even though I could eat it all due to a throat infection 😫 it was still the best I have ever had, and I love that it didn't have the skin and being gluten free.

Purchased three fish and chips from the takeaway 2/8/24 Very disappointed. Chips dry and little salt and vinegar and we had asked for lots. Fish good size but dry inside the batter - no flavour and was so dry it was curled and crispy on the ends.

Came upon the restaurant by chance, as we'd originally planned to get take out but the queue was huge. So glad we did. The service was great. The food was simple but done very well. Had a great cod and chips meal, with a lovely pint of sharps cider. A great start to the holiday. Thanks guys!

We've had both takeaway and eaten in the restaurant on our holiday and both agree it's the best fish and chips meal we've ever had. My partner had the gluten-free options, battered cod and battered onion rings and it was just as nice as the regular batter, which is rarely the case. Very impressed with the food, service and nice staff.

The food here is very disappointing and totally ruins my mood for the holiday. Very oily and unhealthy, which almost made me puke. It’s hard to imagine that you can make fish and chips this disgusting. Will never come back and will not recommend to anyone unless it’s someone I really hate.

Friendly staff great experience

Great takeaway, with lots of Gluten Free options. The GF pizza choice was much better than most places, and so many more items you never see GF in 99% other chip shops. Chips and fish, onions rings all good. The staff excellent, all incredibly polite, even when shouting fish orders through to the frying staff!FYI they don't take phone orders.

Really helpful lady confirmed they could do gluten free fish and chips when I phoned to check. She also gave advice on buses from St Ives. The fish and chips were excellent. So great to be able to eat them with confidence. Staff service was good too. Highly recommended.

We’d been looking forward to eating at Becks but were disappointed. No dogs allowed in the restaurant so we got takeaway and drove to the nearest beach and sat in the car. The chips were totally amazing but my cod tasted chewy and not freshly cooked (probably cooked twice). I asked for gluten free cod and chips and heard him shout over large portions (I pulled a face but was ignored). This consisted of two bits of fish which I was never going to eat, especially as it wasn’t freshly cooked and was very chewy. My husband had GF haddock and he confirmed mine wasn’t as fresh. Tip to owners: when you are charging this amount for takeaway it needs to be good.

This was our first time here. Wow! What a fabulous place to eat. Great choice and quality of food. Excellent service from the friendly staff and a brilliant atmosphere. If you ever come to Carbis Bay, this is the place to come if you're looking for great fish and chips. Fabulous food, and very reasonable.

You need to visit Becks for the best fish and chips in cornwall. Such a lovely atmosphere and staff and will accommodate anything, even gluten free. Great that they don’t accept dogs too as if you’re not a dog person quite hard to eat in cornwall without a dog under the table. Just wish they would open more days or longer hours during school holidays. Keep up the good work.

Very popular venue only open a few days per week. Take away queue looks daunting but the service is so efficient that the wait is minimal. Just long enough to get everything cooked fresh. Delicious fresh haddock and generous portions of crispy chips.

I’d give more stars if I could. The best fish and chips I’ve ever had. I often visit Cornwall and Becks is local to where I’m staying this time. I had a cod and chips takeaway. Regular. The fish was cooked perfectly and of a good size for regular, the chips crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The batter had a lovely flavour and was crispy. I like that they have a big car park at the rear for all customers. The staff were polite and were doing very well to keep the queue moving. Impressive operation where everyone clearly cares about what they’re doing. Thank you. I will be back.

We last visited Becks what seems like decades ago. We always appear to have been passing since when it is closed or on route to another destination. Thankfully the drought is now over. Managed finally to be hungry and passing (although truth be told it was actually a planned visit). 5 of us went there were 5 empty plates. They served goodly portions leaving all very full. You can go large if you wish but be prepared for whale size portions folks as when they say the standard portion is like a large already they mean it. The batter on the cod was second to none and as crispy as it comes, the cod itself was lovely and thick and silky which is seriously hard to come by these days. When you crack open the batter not only is it piping hot it smells like the fish and chips did when i were growing up . We also had scampi which was excellent and breaded plaice which I am told was delicious. Best surprise of all was they also had gravy and curry sauce too which was a bonus please be aware though its not on the menu so make sure you ask for it as they are both very very good (huge servings too). We are all looking forward to a revisit. If you are also considering if the gluten free bit affects anything the answer is a resounding no. All chippy’s should use it if it would make the fish and chips taste like Becks.

Tracked down Becks mainly for their gluten free options. Plaice in gf batter was excellent as was the regular haddock, good to see hake on the menu too. Both batters were nice and crispy, medium chip portion was mountainous and very generous fish portions. Chips were perfect. Mushy peas very good texture and flavour and natural looking colour unlike some of the overly sweet and dayglo coloured offerings you get from some places. You can buy all the sauces and ketchups you might need from the counter too. Highly recommend Becks.

Beck's is aways popular and rightly so. Excellent food cooked to order and friendly staff. Richard and the team do a tremendous job. They also can do a lightly battered fish - excellent.

Update: Had a take away this time. Haddock and chips are still brilliant quality. Regular Haddock order came with two fish pieces which is incredible - very tasty and meaty fish which was cooked fresh to order! Chips were good as were the baked beans. Defo try the haddock. Regular cod was a massive hit again with the other party members; beautifully cooked which flaked away on the fork! Unfortunately, the mushy peas were not mushy at all! More like bullets so both inedible portions were left. Staff in the take away part of the restraint were very friendly!! Restaurant was clean. Only other issue are the opening hours in the evening. Closes to early; should be open til at least 9:30 to allow for more normal eating times for adults; barely have a drink before it closes at 8pm. Defo come again but will obviously have to be early. Old: One of my favourite childhood memories this place. When we used to come down to St Ives and Carbis Bay for our holidays, this was a go to place for one of our teas. Great portion sizes and atmosphere. Haddock was tasty I remember when I went a few years ago. Wait was a little long though.

The reviews of this place are spot on! The coeliacs in the group were made to feel safe and so much of the menu was able to be gluten free they had lots to choose from. Dont be put off by the old-school decor or the location being a bit outside the main st ives town. Its totally worth making the effort. The family run place was welcoming and friendly from the moment we stepped in the door. Absolutely amazing food and family friendly environment.

We eat a lot of fish and chips all over the UK and this was definitely one of, if not, the best we have had. Portions are great and the cod was such good quality. Don't be worried whether the gluten-free fish will take anything away, it still has great crispy batter. Thank you Becks!

Wow what can I say… great little place with a very relaxed atmosphere… currently on holiday from Twickenham (London) but was made to feel right at home… in fact it felt as if they went the extra mile… in truth it was probably another night providing great customer service for the team… been the only African American on the night, I felt invisible, no awkward moments or stares which is always appreciated… the food was a real treat and I left feeling disappointed I couldn’t finish my plate… believe me they don’t hold back on the portions and it’s not to over compensate for quality… I felt I walked away getting one over on old Becky considering what we paid for the meal… in the end we left a well deserved tip

Visit here regularly, best fish n chips around, food is always freshly cooked as it is an open kitchen. Fish has plenty of flavour and the chips dont taste or feel like cardboard. Reasonably priced, portions are filling. Plenty of car parking at the rear and you can also eat inside if you wish.

Take out fish and chips was amazing beautiful fish Unfortunately 3 of our party order pizza which they didn't really like. It could have been a cheap pizza from a supermarket.... sorry guys.

This place is excellent. I can not rate everything highly enough. We are a large family, some of whom are ceoliac with some complex allergies. Nothing was too much trouble and not one of us was ill. Just fabulous x

Whenever we visit Cornwall, Becks is always on our list of places to eat. Their fish is fresh and you get a good portion. The chips, for us, are cooked perfectly. We usually eat in the restaurant, but it was closed, so we had a takeaway, which we took to Carbis Bay and parked looking at Hayle estuary.

Staff were lovely, unfortunately had some rude customers Tho. Food was lovely
