Birthday meal we are both vegetarian and the new menu has a lot more choice. It was a lovely meal nice atmosphere and great staff well worth a visit

Booked a table about an hour before and were made to feel very welcome by Josh and his colleague, a young lady with black hair. Josh seems to be very well regarded by customers and in these reviews. Our food was lovely, only criticisms would be it would be nice to have a choice of bread, as there was no wholemeal or granary option with the soup. Having only white bread isn't very healthy. There was also a retired couple with a Westie dog which never shut up barking, its annoying when you have come out for a family meal, feel the manager should have spoken to the dog owners as they didn't appear to quieten it up, no consideration for the customers by this couple. They could have left the dog at home. The pub should revise their policy about dogs.

Nice place been a few times. But disappointed as when my food came did not have my side order with my burger and instead they replaced it with mayonnaise food was still nice but that was the point of making that order to dip my burger in the source. Should of been told they had none from the start could of ordered something else but still nice n friendly place

The food was tasteless and the new manager seemed to have little conviviality,we have always enjoyed our visits to this pub but something was missing on this ocassion

Booked a table for three the pub was very quiet only about 6 people in the place but we did wait for 25 minutes for the order to be taken. I have to say the menu was very basic not as much choice as usual and there weren't any specials on offer. We ordered 2 starters 1 fried chicken and a pork terrine both were ok . Mains were 1 mixed grill and 2 x rump steaks with peppercorn sauce. The chips were frozen not homemade and the meals were served with a salad and a half tomato, the hardest tomato ever the portion of peppercorn sauce was served in a thimble!!!. Very disappointed with the food and service. I think the management and chef must have changed since our last visit as it was nothing like the standard of food or service on our last visit, very expensive for basic pub grub.

Nice meal here, attentive staff and competitively priced. Used voucher received after having Christmas Party here in December.

This was the worst Sunday roast we have ever had, I like my veg Al dente, but this was rock head , we couldn’t even put a knife through the Yorkshire pudding, the pigs in blanket was just a large sausage wrapped in a piece if fatty bacon and the gravy was so salty & lumpy, overall a disgusting meal would never recommend it to anyone.

Had a lovely meal with a friend this evening the place has a really good atmosphere, we had a lovely young lady waiting at our table, nothing was too much trouble. Only second time I've revisited as it has had a number of managers and wasn't great, but this manager has sorted the place 👏👏👏

If customer service was an olympic event Josh would surely be dope tested. He showed extensive knowledge of the products on offer, took time to take photos for us and seemed at times omnipresent when required. He is a great asset to the company, his team and the customers.

Visited the Bear and Staff for Mother’s Day such a lovely warm and clean pub. Josh made our afternoon he was so funny, polite and attentive made us all feel very welcome! Can’t wait to visit again!

Beautifully made food, we had the mixed grill and the sauces were astounding, the chips were fantastic, and the meat was seasoned wonderfully. Even better than the food though, was the service! Our server Britney was friendly, always around to help, and genuinely a great server.

A nice, relaxing pub to chill out and chat in, with good drinks and great staff. Josh and Eleanor always make you feel welcome.

Great food , welcoming staff, what's not to like about this lovely place. Popped in last month and was impressed with the professionalism of our server Josh he has class and personality he made everyone feel like a special customer. Brought our family in again this month and once again was impressed with the food and warm welcome from Josh and Carl (hope I got your name right Carl - we did stay for few pints 🤣).

We are gutted to have to write this review, as we have been to The Bear & Staff a number of times (including Boxing Day) and had some lovely meals. However, the quality of today’s roast was so disappointing. The meat was dry, the roast potatoes tiny, and the quality of the vegetables was terrible. Having checked the menu since returning home, it states that the meal should have been served with maple roast carrots and parsnips. Instead, we got what felt like poor quality frozen veg. On a positive note, the waiting on staff were welcoming. We were served by Ellen & Luis who were apologetic and very friendly. It’s a shame as we were going to book for Easter, but will now look to book elsewhere.

Came in last night with my partner and little one. Food arrived quickly and was a very tasty. Carl and brit was attentive without being overwhelming. Will be returning in the future.

Been coming here for a number of years now but got to say the past 2/3 years it’s a regular occurrence that the kitchen is closed due to staffing issues, which is extremely disappointing as the food and service has always been excellent. Still enjoyed a drink but then had to travel elsewhere for dinner.

Had a lovely meal at the bear and staff. I had the trio of roasts it was cooked beautifully. The staff were really nice and friendly. Especially Ellen and Carl they couldn’t be more helpful

Went in for a meal with my wife. We shared the chefs board which was really nice. I had the ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly and my wife had the lasagne with garlic bread which she said was very tasty. We had just enough room for a mini pudding the cheesecake was perfect size. All the staff were amazing and so helpful. I was served by Ellen who was friendly and attentive

Having suddenly discovered we fancied a roast dinner, (with no desire to cook), we agreed on The Bear and Staff. Having been before, it seemed a sensible choice. As always, staff were very welcoming and we were seated right away. We opted for the Korean Barbecue Chicken strips and Trio Roast, and it was very good indeed. Generous portions, tasty and the added bonus of a massive pig in a blanket! Everything was cooked perfectly and we couldnt have been happier. Will definitely be back again soon.

This place has become a favourite of mine. I usually come here with my partner but for this occasion I came with my friends who were visiting from Spain. They are hard to please (I’m sure they won’t mind me saying 🤣) but were absolutely made up with the experience here. We came for drinks but cheekily asked if there was any chance we could eat in the bar area which the kind barman Chris said yes to. He explained that because the restaurant wasn’t too busy that they could let us order. The food was amazing as usual and the service was second to none. Thanks bears!

We really love this local but unfortunately disappointed today. We arrived 1:45pm to be told that it would be an hour before our order for food could be taken due to a large party that had arrived. It's a shame that a large party couldn't be accommodated and others still be served....

Absolutely auful, went with my sister and neice yesterday afternoon, pub was quiet, 1 staff member, who was lovely when she got time to serve us, order starters, which was OK, then main meals, mixed grill was auful, took it of the bill, pudding was just as bad , bramble apple tart could not eat it was so sour and bakewell tart, was like mushy mess, taken off bill, people waiting to be served at bar, sad to say will not be returning 🤯

Had a Lovely 3 course lunch there other day, a treat off my Friend for my Birthday. Food was Lovely, service really good, 2 lads serving where pleasant am friendly. The only downfall was, it was a freezing cold day an we sat by fire, asked for it to be lit an the reply was we have no wood. If they had the heating on it was on very low, kinda unbearable by the end, people around us complained of cold an sat with hats & scarfs on. When we left, it felt warmer outside than in. I would go back as everything else was fine, just turn the heating up a bit more or get some wood, to make it a more enjoyable service.

Warm and welcoming?Not! Absolutely freezing, had to keep our coats on and go outside to get warm. Sign saying “don’t feed the fire” gods sake lighting the fire would be an idea. Radiators were ornamental. If you can’t afford to heat the place close it down. Last time we come here, good riddance.

So Poor. And so disappointing. Menu not great amount of choice. Only visited for specials, only to be told no specials this week. Left a minimal choice. Ordered drinks - took ages to arrive. Same with food. When food came the beef short rib was missing. Mentioned this and then was brought the smallest ramekin of beef rib you could imagine. Parts of signature burger raw and inedible. Such a shame as could be a very nice pub/restaurant. Must though give a shout out to the young lady in charge of front of house who was incredible,friendly,professional. Not somewhere to visit.

Place was freezing and looking at previous reviews this wasn't a one off. Food was average prices excessive for what you got. Should have been warned no heating no explanation no apologies. A very disappointing visit spoilt a catch with a friend. Would not recommend.

Room was absolutely freezing. Place not busy on arrival. Waited 20 minutes to place order, food arrived missing the roast potatoes, some were brought out separately but were rock hard. All the food was served on cold plates and the veg was frozen not fresh. Asked for extra gravy which arrived after we finished eating. We were asked if we wanted a pudding and brought a menu, nobody came to take our order so we got the bill and left. Very disappointing.

Takes a lot for me to complain tbh but I did because the service was extremely slow and food cold both dinner and dessert . Very disappointing. Won’t be going back unfortunately.

Back tobour favourite places for dinner. Never disappointed. I have my seabass with scallops as usual and I am really enjoyed with my meal. And my partner tried something new with his roast dinner . He has slow cook rib of beef that been recommended by manager last time . He really enjoy the meal too He glad to tried. This place so nice atmosphere and warm welcome staffs as always. We will definitely coming back when we have time.

We brought friends from Chester as we’d had a nice lunch here previously. However, we were disappointed this time. They didn’t have the full menu, the pie crust was rock hard, the signature burger did not have the beef on top. The meals were very ordinary and no better than what you’d expect from Wetherspoons. I sent a complaint in afterwards about the quality of the food but it has been completely ignored, and this was 6 weeks ago. I gave them the chance to put things right but they chose to ignore me, hence the review.

Visited this evening for Sunday Lunch. This is our local and we have Sunday Lunch here maybe once a month, usually lovely, not tonight! Both our meals were cold when served, asked for them reheated, they came back just tepid. Asked for horseradish to go with beef, given garlic mayo alioli, asked again given garlic mayo, told they don't do horseradish sauce! Roast potatoes, were very dry Aunt bessies, beef grisly and chewy, altogether an awful meal. Felt bad for young waitress who was very apologetic and doing her best. We've had so many lovely meals here, so sad to see it going down, but after tonight's meal we won't be rushing back! Don't know if they are under new management or have no chef but this isn't the pub we know and have loved.

I visited recently with my wife, Carla on a rare date without the kids and it’s fair to say I’m very impressed. We were welcomed warmly by staff, Carl, Eleanor, and Josh. The atmosphere was warm and cozy despite us visiting on what felt like the coldest day of the year. Unfortunately due to a supplier shortage after the christmas period, the restaurant were short of a few meals, however this didn’t hinder our experience as there was more than plenty to choose from on the menu! Our drinks were brought to us promptly, we shared a bottle of the El Pico Cabernet Sauvignon which was recommended to us by barman Josh. What a fantastic recommendation because we drank the bottle as if it was juice 🤣. Manager Carl took our food order soon afterwards. My wife ordered the Korean Chicken and I, myself, ordered the Cod and Chips. Our meals were brought to us by the young waitress, Eleanor who served us with a smile and got us everything we needed to accompany our meals. Unfortunately we didn’t have room for puddings but had a look at the menu anyway, and I can promise we’ll be back to try the Bakewell Tart (one of my wife’s favourite desserts!). Overall a great experience and we will definitely be back.

Quiet lunchtime drink and sandwich

Heard good things about this place so, thought we would give it a go. The staff were really nice and attentive, often checking if everything was OK. There were 2 vegetarians,including myself and were nice veggie options, I ordered a vegetarian burger with chips and was very tasty and fresh. The only issue really, wasn't with the staff but people coming in that hadn't booked a table and expecting to just get one, and then being annoyed with staff because they didnt want to wait. But the staff were great with handling this and patient, they did their best to accommodate customers.

Christmas Day meal. Waited an hour and 15 minutes for starter. The main was a steak and unfortunately, what appeared to be, Aunt Bessie frozen roast potatoes, a tablespoon of red cabbage and a jug of red wine gravy. Lovely little country style pub, came for a Christmas meal, service was good, the food was a little slow and some of the items were a little sub par, but they were busy and overall we had an enjoyable evening.

Booked for birthday meal with my famliy. On walking lovely and clean and welcoming. But on sitting down took my coat of and it was cold there was electric heater but not warming place up. Me and my famliy was all freezing cold which put a damper on evening. Had to go bar to order as no one around to order drinks and states table service I asked for my steak well done and it wasn't again wait ages to speak with any one about by time was sorted all my famliy had eaten and I was eating on my own . And when the steak came back it was over cooked so hard to eat. So again spolit it the experience. My famliy done me a cake. No body came up and asked did we want dessert so cut my cake and we was frozen so got the bill and left my granddaughters asthma had kicked of my son who has cp was in pain as his joints had got so cold even once we got home took us all ages to warm up. Service was awful we barely had anyone come to our table we wanted dessert but got to a point that I ended up cutting my mum cake and giving it out because no one come over. Also waited while for someone take food order, server then told us that we had a pre order witch we didn’t. From start to finish my whole experience here was awful. I will be contacting manager to speak myself with them I never leave reviews but in this case I have had to because this was worst experience I’ve ever had at restaurant.

Enjoyed our meal very much. It's a really nice place and the staff are on the ball and quick to serve. We noticed how clean this place is and very roomy too and there's no overcrowding. You can enjoy your meal in comfort without loud unwanted music.

A really smart place to stop by. It was neat and clean and looked really nice. You have to register your car if you park in their parking spaces just outside. We passed by just for a few moments and would definitely choose this place to stop by again.
