Beach Box in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Sept 24: Coffee was good, but the two young women serving should consider a non-customer facing role in Cornish Tourism...? Not only does the Beach Box not accept cash, but they carried on talking to each other about how dirty cash was and had to keep washing their hands... FYI from a friend in Environmental Health, coins rubbing together in someone's pockets kills germs...!! Plus they should apologise for not being able to take cash, not Scorn Customers who choose not to take a wallet full of credit cards into the beach.... We really enjoyed our visit. The food and service was great. It was a rainy day and to find the seating are upstairs with enough room for six of us was a real bonus.

Miserable and expensive experience, plenty of other options close by, food ok at best.

Really odd experience. Great menu and prime position near the beach. Totally let down by uncommunicative staff. The staff had no idea about customer service, nothing was clear about the ordering system - I was just told to wait by the shut window for my food order (two pasties and a sausage roll took 15 mins to put in a bag) I had to knock on the shutter like Dorothy in the wizard of Oz to interpret the staff chat to check how they were doing. We were the ONLY customers I hasten to add. They also forgot to give us drinks we'd ordered so I had to ask for them. No smiles, no actual conversation, astonished looks when I enquired after the order. I can see why the queue was small. If it was a school report I'd say "could do better". PS - I rarely if ever do reviews but this was in a league of its own.

Brilliant addition to a great area an beach. Seating if required or take back to the beach. Great selection of food, drinks, cakes, coffees etc. Everything you need. Food we had was superb an the coffee was good. An the mint choc brownies, I mean just WOW. Service was great too, even when super busy.

I had a lovely Paddle Power Smoothie from here,it was 4£ you have the option of a Acaia bowl & a Smoothie,I had a Smoothie and enjoyed my delicious beverage on Mawgan porth beach.

Less than average flat white coffees x 2, two sausage sandwiches one with a microwaved egg nearly £17. Staff seemed like they couldn't be bothered. Won't be going back!

We stopped by here to grab 4 hot chocolates after a couple of hours body boarding in the rain. They were just what we needed & stacked with cream & marshmallows. Perfect!

I love affagato and they do it. If its on the menu then you should order it. If they don’t do it then ask why..

Says open until 1800 was in the queue, and the customer in front of us was served but we were rudely told it was shut. Who can throw good business away like that?

Lovely fresh crab salad and coffee to take away and eat on the beach. Cakes looked amazing too. Great value for money, friendly and obliging staff - recommended.

This is a great place. Well laid out. Food and drinks are great. Staff fab. We will be back and we visit the others they have in the area!

We were desperate to feed our baby after the long trip from Manchester. Asked for a cheese sandwich, but 'we do cheese toasties' and 'but there's no butter on it' Just put butter on it and don't toast it, and it's a sandwich. I don't know if the girls were capable of thinking outside of the box but kindly lightly toasted it (sans butter) £6 for the 'pleasure'. Jobsworth 😑

Fun place where you order your food, wait for it to be brought to the counter and then you can take it wherever to eat. Due to Covid safety rules their terrace was closed which is a shame as it probable offers great views but we were able to sit at some nearby picnic tables. It was the only place serving food around 3pm (all the other places on the beach front stopped their lunch service and weren't yet doing dinner) so many thanks to Beach Box. The food was great, actually. Better than your average sandwich place: I had halloumi and roasted peppers in a pitta bread, delicious.

Love this beach.. even on a winters day

Really friendly little beachside cafe, offering vegan options and a friendly atmosphere. Just a shame it was raining so we couldn’t enjoy the outside seating area.

Had a lovely stop here, earl grey and latte were so good we had to have another one. The cakes were yummy too. Staff friendly and helpful.

Small dog friendly cafe which we visited twice, the cheese toasties were good as was the tea, and the chocolate brownies were delicious, we also tried sausages baps on a different day which we didn't enjoy we found the sausages to be quite grisly. Some interesting menu options, customer service was good and the toilets are free for customers. Would visit again when in the area.

Worth going to for the unique experience. Most cafes have toilets. But these are toilets which have a cafe! Very enterprisingly, they have kept the public toilets open by building a very nice little cafe on top. You sit up on top of the world - out in the sun - looking down on the happy beach-side life below. You would not know the loos are there. They are very clean and completely unobtrusive. You get a free toilet token with your meal.

The beach box cafe has all the ingredients to be a lovely little cafe, good location, nice coffee and a spectacular elevated spot looking over the beach. Sadly it is let down by its staff. Visited this week and climbed the stairs, stood at the counter and was ignored by all three staff for quite a time while they finished their own conversation. It’s a small area and we were the only customers so felt really rude and made me want to just walk out. After I got their attention, and they were literally just in front of me, they didn’t apologise, smile or look like they cared or wanted to be there. Sadly this isn’t our first experience of poor customer service at the beach box cafe as last year was no different, apart from really long waits for your order as well. We thought we would see if it had got better this year and sadly it hasn’t. It’s such a shame as this should be a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a coffee and snack and we keep asking ourselves why the owner doesn’t realise the impact it’s staff is having on their business.

Me and my puppy dog had been for a walk on the beach in Mawgan Porth and fancied a coffee, this little place is slightly hidden away next to Betty’s News, up some blue steps. Totally dog friendly, they offer free WiFi and phone chargers! I only had a coffee but both girls were very friendly and loved Freddie I will definitely visit again and next time bring a book and stay longer!

Perched atop a 20p an entry loo, the Beach Box Cafe is all funky wood planking, stainless steel and glass. You sit outside at tables jammed close together, so if you like overhearing the conversations of others you will be very pleased. There is a view of the surrounding hills dotted with bungalows. Alas, there is no view of the beach itself which is the other side of a high and overgrown sand dune. The coffee is good enough but the snacks looked limited. Unfortunately the one we chose proved unpalatable. 'Just a matter of taste', was the shrug off from the staff. Come on Cornwall, you can do better than this.

I always remember this block from when I was a child on holiday in Mawgan Porth. So great to see it has been turned into the Beach Box and they’ve made use of the space to modernise. We went in to ask if our dog was allowed in. The lady was very friendly and helpful. We took our dog in and two teens in for a bacon bap and coffee. Sat inside as a windy, rainy day. Lovely food, coffee and clean. Went back the next day when we could sit out on the balcony and enjoy ice cream with a view. Another friendly member of staff. Great place will definitely go back and try the panini’s and croissants:-)

Visited the Beach Box for brunch we ordered a bacon baguette and a coffee. We sat outside on the balcony enjoying the view. Bacon baguettes where cooked to perfection and nicely presented. There was a good selection of baguettes and paninis and snacks. Friendly service and dog friendly. Will visit again and recommend :)

Popped into the Beach Box for a mid-morning coffee and croissant. We were lucky enough to get a seat outside on the balcony, with a stunning view of the bay. The take away food looked good, but we didn't have any. Very friendly service - and took credit cards.

We had a lovely lunch at the Beach Box on one of the days we were lucky enough to find a table. Its quite bizarre knowing you're eating in a former toilet block but the nice, fresh decor, funky fittings and wifi allows you to forget its former status. A great selection of artisan sardines, baguettes etc - would highly recommend
