We had a lovely lunch with family today, enjoying the view from above and the sunshine. However, when my food was being served, the sizzling from the oil in it landed on my husband's coat. When we asked for the bill, I explained the situation to the lady, who by the way was the person who served us the food, and she barely apologized. I would expect a better handling of the situation...

Excellent food and a good waitress. Second time I ate there in a week and on both occasions I really enjoyed the meals. The meatball starter is particularly tasty. The only negative was that the young waiter insisted on singing, badly, along to all the background music, whistling when the higher notes were too much for him. A spot of supervision might be an idea. Worth a visit!!

This place is so quintessentially English it has to be worth a visit. Coffee shops at sea side are everywhere now but this restaurant and its classic waiter service overlooking the North East coastline, is to die for. The Hotel itself covers every option. The bar is a bar. Then there's a bit of a cafe... then there the dining room then there's a garden. We opted for the dining room... had an excellent shared Ploughmans lunch which was really an elaborate cheeseboard but it was excellent and certainly enough for 2. Prices were mid range and the service was top drawer. Can't wait to go back. There's no car park so be prepared to walk from further up the hill.

We booked a room here for one night bed and breakfast. The hotel is ideally located with a small amount of parking for guests. If the car park is full then you do have to use the pay and display parking opposite. Our room was in the new offsite section next door and was pretty nicely decorated throughout. A large super king bed, a roll top bath and a large shower. Great views over the moors and we could even see a snippet of the coast from our bay window too. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a drink on the balcony overlooking the coast, which was fantastic. Breakfast was excellent, with a great cold selection and full English of good quality. Overall we would definitely recommend and visit again

We went here for a Sunday roast. We booked in advance and asked to be seated out of the way in the bar, as our dog doesn’t always settle well. The restaurant were really responsive and helpful in arranging this for us. We really liked where we were seated, especially with the new decor in the bar area. The Sunday roast was nice enough. We ordered starters and mains and they arrived quickly. The vegetarian nut roast option was tasty, but felt like stuffing with some extra veg added to it. The only negative point really was that the vegetable portion came separately and was very small, only one breakfast bowl of mixed veg between three of us, consisting of 2 florets of broccoli, five small carrots and a couple of spoons of red cabbage. Luckily, the rest of meal was big and therefore still filling, with tasty Yorkshires, roast potatoes, mashed potato and roasted parsnip. I think they have only reopened fully recently and sadly they still seem to be finding their feet. This is understandable, but it did mean that the two cocktails we ordered took 40 minutes to come, after we asked twice where they had got to, and unfortunately, we had therefore already finished our starters and half of our main before a drink, when it finally arrived (the waiting staff were very apologetic and explained that it was just taking a while for them to be made).

We were only able to stay for one night, but we shall be back to enjoy the comforts of your rooms, the fantastic views across the bay, the welcoming and efficient service we received and the fantastic dinner and breakfast. It is so good to find a hotel beautifully cared for and with a staff who really welcome you. Newly decorated through out. Fresh flowers in the communal areas. We were the first people to stay in the captains quarters, furnished to a high standard. Huge bed, with window seat facing the front. Our bathroom was next door with large wall in shower and Elemis washing products. We had breakfast with sea view, we took our coffee outside and enjoyed the nice weather. Lots of comfy outdoor furniture. All the staff were friendly. We would love to come back

We had a lovely evening meal at the Victoria Hotel. We sat in the dining room which was beautifully decorated. The menu wasn’t marked up for gluten free options but they could make nearly everything gluten free. There was a great selection of dishes and we opted for the curry, which had a fantastic flavour and was an authentic Indian recipe. There is the also an option to eat in the bar area. I would highly recommend coming here and there would be beautiful views of Robin Hood’s Bay if you came in the daylight.

Sunday lunch. August 2023. Admittedly it was bank holiday weekend and staff were stretched. No complaints about staff. The food, for the money was not good. If we were not on a weekend break, we would have had Sunday lunch at the George and Dragon in Whitley which absolutly blows you away for half the price. We will be back at the G & D next week and we will be back to Robin Hoods Bay in the future. Not sure if we will be back at Victoria Hotel. Feel sad and disappointed because it used to be one of our favourite places. Sue n Shelly

What has happened to the Victoria Hotel? I have been a few years ago a few times for lunch and it was so wonderful I've been praising it and promoting it to as many people as I can but I visited today and quite honestly had the worst fish and chips lunch I've had (no exaggeration) Started off poorly as we called to book a table. They took our name and phone number but when we arrived there was no booking on the system. Sat down and waited an unacceptable amount of time to be served. This continued right throughout our meal and time at the Victoria Hotel. When I said I waited a long time let me just give an example. After we'd finished our meal we then waited nearly 30 minutes for someone to come and ask us if we wanted dessert or wanted to pay our bill - at which point we just up and left and paid on the way out. The service was just awful The food however was another level of terrible and I honestly am gutted to write this having visited previously and loved it. We both ordered fish and chips and when it came the batter on the fish was greasy and tasteless and horrible but the absolute worst part of the whole visit were the chips Now I have since seen similar comments so this is something the hotel simply must act on It feels like the chips are pre-cooked, left to dry and recooked when ordered which leaves them arriving at your table dry, hard and old. Easily the worst chips I've ever tasted. I'm sorry Victoria Hotel but this is not acceptable. How many people need to mention this and leave reviews on the way the chips are cooked for you to take action and change your ways on this? It feels like this one great place to head to for lunch has now taken it's customers for granted, gone downhill and suffered from a lack of competent management. There's a real lack of care in the food. I'd advise anyone reading this review to avoid eating here like the plague. I've gone from being the biggest fan of The Victoria to someone that won't return until either the chef or management have been replaced and gone (or both) Very poor service, and extremely poor food

I was sooo looking forward to coming here as my partner had been before and raved it was the best fish and chips he had ever had. It was a bank holiday Saturday so I called to book in advance in case it was busy and that was fine, the person I spoke to, Wendy, confirmed my booking time, took my contact number and confirmed we would be in restaurant and not the bar We arrived early and I went to check the time I had booked as I wasn’t sure if it was 1 or half 1, to be told there was no booking - luckily the place wasn’t too busy so I was booked in no problems. We then went in to eat and were shown to a table and left to look at the menu. 30 minutes later someone came to check on us and realised that no one had been to take any drink or food orders - we weren’t in a rush so again this wasn’t a massive issue although not what you would normally expect. Our drinks came fine and our starter - which was lovely, we both had the chick liver pate and the chutney that came with it is just amazing. Next came our mains - the famous cod and chips and sorry to say it wasn’t the best I have had ever The cod I do have to say was lovely, really tasty and chunky, the peas were nice but the chips were just bad. Usually chips are good chip is golden in colour, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and these were no where near. It was as if we were the last ones to eat and had the oldest chips that had been sat in the fryer, they were just had and hollow and not very nice at all. We both ended up just eating our fish and leaving most of the chips When the waiter came to take our plate he asked if everything g was ok and we gave him the feedback on the chips, which he seemed really surprised at, which was even more disappointing as it was clear just looking at the chips they weren’t the best. Then he left and we waited, and waited and waited The place had only 2 other tables eating inside yet no one came to offer us more drinks or dessert or see if we just wanted the bill After waiting over 25 minutes from having our plates taken we eventually got tired of waiting and get up and went to the reception, asked for our bill and then left. Even that fact we had to go ask for the bill wasn’t commented on by the waiter which I found strange. I don’t like giving bad feedback and in hindsight we should have just sent the chips back as soon as they came but the fact that the service was so bad also has lead me to say that unfortunately I will never go back there again

We stayed at the Hotel only one night as we couldnt get a booking for longer. The location is fantastic and perched above Robinhood Bay. It is an old Victorian structure so expect rickety wooden floors. Our room had a gorgeous view and was comfortable. The electric shower was terrible tho … water came out in a trickle and the fixture kept dropping off the wall unit making it extremely annoying. The Bar area downstairs was pretty grotty and the toilets were filthy. My friend even told the bar staff about them and they didn’t care. The Bistro has a fabulous lookout and is great for dinner & breakfast. The food however does not match up and was very average. Staff were ok and not very attentive and helpful.

We haven’t visited for a few years and the place has had a renovation; it is unrecognisable and all the better for it. We were shown to our table and left there for 15 minutes without so much as a glass of water. We weren’t...

Stopped at Robin’s Hood Bay quickly on the way home and decided to get a bite to eat at this hotel, which was apparently where Daniel Day Lewis’ Phantom Thread was filmed. I had probably the nicest slices of Victoria Sponge I’ve ever eaten, and...

Stayed in Whitby and after doing the Whitby to Robin Hoods Bay walk we were recommended eating at The Vic by a local lady from one of the shops. We managed to get into the dog friendly bar where you can also order food. Gentleman...

Enjoyed a lovely evening meal, welcomed by very friendly and professional staff. Food well cooked and fasted freshly prepared. Good wine list too and not outrageously priced.

Visited Robins Hood Bay on a glorious day in September. Managed to get a table in a busy beer garden which has stunning views. Its a bit of a rabbit Warren inside which only adds to its charm in my opinion. Not the cheapest place...

Having spent 3 and a half hours on the coastal walk from Whitby to Robin Hood's Bay and then a further hour pottering around the quaint cobbled alleyways and harbour down below, we were very much in the mood for some lunch and cold drinks....

Pleasantly surprised with our meal here. To be honest we booked in because our first choices for somewhere to eat were already booked up. We had a table reserved in the bar area. Ordering was done via the bar which was a bit frustrating as...

We’d booked in the Victoria Hotel for an evening meal and a few drinks. We arrived too early for our booking but we’re re-directed outside to the garden until our table was ready. The view from the garden is beautiful! The food was excellent however...

It's unusual to find such a quality restaurant in a hotel setting. The chef here is incredibly talented. Beautiful food whilst sat looking out over the bay and to sea. The pork belly was divine and all of the food was beautifully presented. Will be...

A lovely meal in a wonderful old Victorian building (obviously). We ate in the Orangerie which does have great views over the bay but the main dining area would have been equally as comfortable, if not more so given the comfy leather chairs. There is...

Couldn't fault the quantity cost or quality. Ordered from the vegan menu chips curry sauce and pea fritter. Only problem was the food wasn't piping hot surprising since it was cooked to order in a deep fat fryer.

My son has a dairy allergy and often has to settle for sorbet when at an ice cream parlour. Truly Scrumptious gave him an amazing choice of dairy free ice creams and toppings. We wouldn’t normally have 3 ice creams in 3 days but he was just so excited that he had choices, how could we not??!!

Food was ok. Price was a little steep. Service was nothing to write home about. BUT what was really annoying, after paying by card and leaving, was being chased down on a busy pavement by a member of staff saying the payment didn't go through - tried again and again, then another card and the another card with the staff member carrying the payment machine saying all declined when none of them should have failed ! Because golden grid has been established for such a long time you'd have thought they would have sorted this problem out but apparently not ! it's not like it would cost them much to get better devices with better reception but no they can't be bothered. SO be prepared to be chased down and embarrassed.

If you like lumpy mashed potato, tasteless veg and watery gravy, you will like this place. I have never seen a more sorry looking carvery in my life.
