Not really the best idea to be cocky and rude to locals when your pubs on its backside as it is, awful landwoman, hopefully shuts and gets new people to run it as a friendly local pub like it's been in the past

The owner of nearby B&B suggested me this pub for dinner, as only option to have a dinner in this village on Sunday. The pub was a bit crowded (as expected for Sunday evening), but there was no problem to find free table. When waiter bring me the menu, there was with him also a chef, who said that they just run off the lamb, but that he can prepare fresh beef with sides. And beef with sauce, Yorkshire pudding, baked potatoes and boiled fresh vegetable was really tasty. This dinner was also good experience for me as a foreigner - when eating the dinner i could feel and taste a bit of atmosphere in the English countryside on Sunday evening.

We called in while passing and although no food was available as a new chef wasn't starting until March we bought drinks and it was a lovely cosy little pub with a real fire. The bar is tidy and nice to look at and the lady behind the bar was very pleasant on her first day on the job. Lovely tables and seating and what looks like a recent paint job throughout. Toilets were clean and the beer was very good with a choice of real ales. I'm sure this will be even better and busier when the kitchen reopens. We hope to be back again to try the food.

I came here for dinner, so that is what my rating reflects. It’s a nice enough pub with a reasonable selection of beers, but the kitchen staff had no idea how to cook a steak. It was grey and unseasoned; clearly the grill was not hot enough to start. They seemed to try to compensate the quality with quantity - the blue cheese sauce I ordered came in a jug that must have had half a pint of the stuff.

Had a gift voucher for vintage inns so whilst we were having a few days away in Skipton we decided to have a chilled evening out with a nice meal. Booked table for 7pm and within 30 seconds the food n drink order were taken. Less than a minute later our starters were served. Less than a minute after finishing starters our mains were served. As the mains were cleared away we were asked to order dessert however we asked for a rest first. A few minutes later the waitress insisted our dessert order was taken and we realised we were the only people left in the restaurant. They then began to turn off the lights in the seating sections around us. We asked when they shut and were told ‘as soon as we’ve finished’. At that point it was blatantly obvious they wanted to go home. Within 80 minutes of being seated we’d had 3 courses and 2 drinks and the doors were being locked behind us as we waited for our taxi. Very very disappointed that our relaxing evening was so rushed and ended up with indigestion. I’ve spent longer over a meal in maccies.

Popped in for lunch with my wife and daughter on Saturday. Oh dear, what a dreadful mistake! It's been ages since we came here, but I had always been a fan - of all Vintage Inns - but now I would think twice about any, and certainly won't be back to the Bay Horse. After waiting ages for the food (about an hour and it wasn't busy at all), we were served;Rump Steak Sandwich - the steak was cold, pea-shoot "garnish" was withered and drying up, looking like a pile of weeds after a day's gardening. The steak was tough and chewy - not overcooked just poor quality. The chips were hot, suggesting to me that they had somehow forgot them and that the sandwich had gone cold whilst they cooked the chips. Incidentally, we had wanted chunky chips but were only offered "chips or salad" so ended up with skinny fries.Fish Finger Sandwich - again, the fish goujons were cold and the garnish was, well, dead! In addition, the goujons were really oily suggesting the fryer was not hot enough when they were cooked, but the chips were hot.Kids pasta - a very small and boring portion of penne pasta with a bit of tomato sauce. The garlic flatbread was OK but overall this was not a suitable dish for an 8 year old, and very poor value at £5.We complained about the sandwiches being cold and the response was underwhelming. Did we want something else? We were assured that the sandwiches had come straight from the kitchen and hadn't been sitting around - blatantly untrue!Having wasted an hour and a half, and with a hungry (but patient) 8 year old to keep happy, we were not in a position to walk out let alone order again, so we finished our meal and when we went to pay received no apology.Looking around at the décor, this pub had gone from "shabby chic" to just "shabby"Afterwards my wife suffered from the oily food and felt queasy for what was left of our afternoon. In hindsight we would have received better food and service in the restaurant next door - McDonalds! (and I am not a fan of that place)Really shocked...

We visited the Bay Horse for lunch and I have to say it was pretty average. Whilst the staff were friendly, they were clearly overrun. They have a variety of good options on the menu and they are well priced. The food came out in good time; however it was cold and had bits missing (e.g. the Wagyu burger was advertised with onion rings but they didn't come out). We asked the waitress who simply said "oh sorry, my fault, I forgot to bring them out!"......Apart from that it is a nice friendly pub. Although I do feel they should pop the heating on a little so it isn't so cold!

We have been looking for a good place for family meals since my elderly Dad has got a bit less able to drive distances and get about. The Bay Horse is close-ish to his home in Skipton so we tried it twice this last week. Once midweek and once on Sunday, both times for lunch. We love it. Good and easy parking. Good food, and great staff. They really make you welcome and look after you well. Even my dog got his own water dish and biscuits under our table, and a dish for left-overs when we had finished. The atmosphere has been very pleasant on both of our visits - quiet but reasonably busy both times, but staff very helpful and friendly even when busy. Excellent all round.

Not over-busy and excellent waiting staff got us off to a good start. Ordered the three meats carvery platter. Not bad at all - not as hot as it could be but more than adequate. Decent quality and quantity. Paid extra for cauliflower cheese. Pleasant overall experience. Tiny bit pricey for one course and soft drinks for two persons (£30), but would return again.

Went here Sunday night with family. Always loved the pub, atmosphere is good and it's a nice place. The food normally complements this but not on this occasion. I ordered the calamari and the fish and chips. The calamari was delicious but I was given just SIX very thin rings. Disappointed at the quantity but liking the taste I awaited my main with anticipation. Unfortunately it was poor, the fish tasted like something you would buy from a supermarket and oven bake. This was placed on top of the chips, which were soggy as a result. I ate what I could but no-one asked how it was, so I skipped desert before paying and leaving. Maybe it was because it was a Sunday evening but it will make me think twice about going again. On this showing it is far inferior to Dick Hudsons, another Vintage Inn nearby that has the same menu.

Firstly the positives. Nice place, warm environment. Were seated quickly and as we were unsure of numbers, given a larger table than needed. Negatives: waiting staff seemed inexperienced and forgot to put through our starters, no real offer of rectification, just a stumbling apology. Despite being quiet, and no starter being put through, food took quite a while to arrive. Lacking in smiles from servers and bizarrely brought child's desert out last, resulting in a mini melt down!!

Arrived at what was a busy hour on a Sunday lunchtime, and expected a long wait. Contrarily, I had our order taken by the solitary bloke behind the bar - who was doing half a dozen other jobs simultaneously, hence my initial foreboding - without delay. And maybe 15 minutes later our roast platter for two appeared. And plenty of it. Ok, we were told at the outset the lamb would now be pork, which wasn't an issue. Except the pork had morphed into ham on the way to the table. Same animal, I suppose, but again not an issue. If I had to gripe, parts of it could have been a tad hotter, but that's it.We fully intended having a desert, but had been filled up by the ample mains.I've never visited this Inn before in my life, despite passing hundreds of times. But, there was a lot on the menu I fancy trying in future, so will be returning before too long. (Nice fresh orange juice as well, I've just remembered!).

Mum and dad had roast turkey (dad disappointed that they had no lamb!) which was a large plate full. I had sea bass with prawn and lobster risotto and it was gorgeous. Oscar had pizza from the kids menu and declared it to be great. The pizza was obviously home made. My partner had the steak pie and this too was lovely. My Bakewell tart dessert was a little odd; a massive slab of cold bakewell topped with 3 scoops of ice cream. The ice cream purported to be "Irish cream" but it wasn't. Would have preferred custard with it I think. Disappointed that I didn't get my free bottle of prosecco, since I am registered for vintage inns newsletters, but hey ho. All in all, very good

Just been here for the 3 course Boxing Day meal. We pre booked the table and were asked to pay a deposit but not pre-order food. When it came to ordering, one of the starters was unavailable as it was apparently only available if it was pre-ordered. This wasn't clear on the menu or when we booked. The turkey main course arrived without parsnips or red cabbage, and when we enquired about where the stuffing was, were told the chef had done sausage and stuffing in bacon which 'hadn't worked very well'. There was no chipolatas and although the parsnips were brought out (with extra gravy) we were never brought any red cabbage. One of the desserts was also unavailable when we ordered. The food itself was actually very nice - the pate starter was delicious and other members of our party enjoyed the seafood risotto and mushroom starters as well as the baileys creme brulee, although we did have quite a wait in between courses. Unfortunately the mistakes that were made and the unavailability of some starters and desserts mean that I won't be visiting again in a hurry. Sadly not the first time I have had poor service here either.

The atmosphere is one of welcoming, the staff never rush you to get a move on, the menu covers a lot for different tastes and the kitchen staff will always respond to dietary needs. All in all well worth a visit if visiting Skipton by road, rail or canal barge.

Visited the Bay Horse for a family meal out yesterday. This is part of the Vintage Inns chain of pubs. Though the menu is standard across the Vintage Inn chain, I found the standard of service and food to be below the standard of others within the group.Though the pub has a canal side setting with seating areas on two levels externally, and a nice 'olde worlde' pub feel inside, I feel that the standards let it down.Though the two family members who I dined with found that the meals that they ordered were 'ok', the 8oz rump steak which I ordered was so tough and gristly that I couldn't eat it. I managed to attract the attention of the waitress (who hadn't been back to ask if everything was ok) and told her it wasn't very good. She offered to replace it with the same or different dish. I chose the chicken pie. This was eventually brought to the table, completely overdone, with the filling dried out. The waitress again did not return and ask if this meal was ok (which you would expect). I ate what I could of it, and left the rest.We finished off with coffees and mini deserts, which were excellent and good value for money. We paid at the bar and left, passing our waitress who blanked us without saying thank you, or goodbye. Not impressed.Though there are some good points to this pub, I feel that the standard of food preparation and service is lacking, and we will not be returning to dine here again.

This is part of a chain of pubs but it's got so much charm inside its a really lovely place and the food isn't just chucked out really quick like some chain pubs. Stayed at the rendezvous hotel just up the road so ideal to walk from there. The staff knew the menu brilliantly and were happy to recommend dishes which would be OK for people in our party with allergies etc. I was a bit disappointed when my pizza arrives and I saw the size of it (because I'm greedy) but actually it was so nice and really filling and nothing wrong with the size! Everyone else said their food was great too and no complaints at all. Price isn't bad; for two courses it's £13. They never rushed us either which I like when I'm eating out. Definitely recommend

We met up with with my Daughter and her family, making up a five sum, had a great meal, in an an oldie world background. Good draught beer, served just right from the pump , and a good selection of house wines, well priced. We went for 6 ish on a wet Saturday, and spent a good 90 minutes enjoying ourselves. The food in the main was well recieved by all, even our picky grandson did justice to his burger meal. Grown ups, stuck with medium sized steaks and chicken meals all of which were of good quality and more than enough on the plate. The sweet options are to die for, with only the cheese plate not coming up to scratch, or at least in my view, poor selection of cheeses being the main grip. The staff were great, pleasant and helpful in every way. The only thing of any real note of complaint would be the substitute for onion rings, which was a strange deep fried I don't know what, presented as soggy and tasteless dollup. We were assured by the staff that there were moves being sought to bring back the rings, the sooner the better.

My wife, daughter and self booked our lunch here on 5th September 2016 and enjoyed the experience very much with excellent and pleasant service throughout. The location is semi-rural just off the main Skipton/Keighley road. The dining room overlooks the leeds/liverpool canal just outside the back of the inn and offers pleasant views of the countryside and various leisure craft plying along the canal in the season. I ordered the traditional fish and chips and my wife and daughter had the steak and ale pie. Portions were very generous and we have only a couple of small criticisms to make, i.e. (1) I did not find the triple cooked chips accompanying an excellent piece of battered cod to my liking since, in my opinion, they offered no advantage over normal chips and no doubt had a much higher fat content as well! (2) my half pint of Guinness was served in a glass with a Masham Brewery logo which could well be confusing to foreign visitors! Far better to have used a plain glass if no dedicated Guinness glasses are available! We can thoroughly recommend this inn and will probably dine here again in the not too distant future but will make a point of avoiding the triple-cooked chips.

We went in on the off chance. We was told that there was no Sunday roast left. I got a glass of wine , white , which was not chilled. My partner got fish and chips, but my meal of Sea bass on a bed of risotto with Prawn and lobster arrived, I could not eat It ---- The fish was burnt and the risotto was like mush . Its the first time I have returned my meal , I did not have to pay for my meal . All we was offered was a 20% discount of our next meal. I was really shocked that the meal was given to me like that and I defiantly will not be returning.

We have visited The Bay Horse numerous times. Never had fantastic service, but always returned as the food is always nice and good value. Sad to say we will not be returning after this evenings experience. Firstly following being seating and receiving our drinks, we had a very lengthy wait for our orders to be taken. Starters came out in fairly good time and were enjoyable. After finishing we noticed our empty plates were taking a while to be cleared, even after the young female waiter had walked past our table numerous times. I then noticed our mains coming towards us by another female waiter who realised our starter plates still hadn't been cleared. She then set the mains down to clear our table and brought our food straight to us. Again food was nice we couldn't fault it. The mains were cleared, and the desert menu was offered to us, not very enthusiastically I might add. I replied yes I will have a quick look, I decided on a desert. Not sure how long the wait might have been as we decide to leave after waiting a minimum of 20 minutes for our order to be taken. The whole place was very quiet, we noticed 3 waiting staff and only one other table eating, so it is definitely not acceptable to have those sort of waiting times. We left feeling very annoyed and disappointed with our experience and service.

We found this pub while walking the canal towpath from Skipton. A little over a mile from the centre of the town it is well worth the walk. The food is very good, the surroundings comfortable and the service excellent. I had a "Sunday roast" while my wife had chicken pie with shortcrust pastry and vegetables, both of which were very good. With one sweet and two drinks the bill came to less than £30. It is easier to get here by car, but I would recommend the canalside walk.

We went today for lunch an were very disappointed with the prawn and smoked salmon sandwich. It came in a large anemic looking Ciabatta bun and the filling was megre to say the least. It was sent back and we were told all food is 'pre-portioned'. Another one was produced and was only slightly better. I did however have a very nice salmon fillet on cous cous. The staff had hardly a word for anyone too. Not the kind of lunch we were looking for.

Big quirky pub, nicely furnished, lots of room for dogs. We had 4 with us on our visit. The food was quite nice to be honest, but the service let it down , not enough staff and the girls who where on didn't have any spark about them. No one bothered to check our table or clear our starter plates before the main arrived. We have been staying in Skipton and been for a walk down most nights for drinks , the wine has not been chilled any night we have been and when asked if the fridge could perhaps do with adjusting met with "we have only just restocked it". So more staff and better fridges you will be singing bay horse crew !

Our friends booked a table for 6:30pm and were recommended a table by a window overlooking the canal. On arrival we were shown to our table, drinks orders were taken, followed by our food order. We ordered soup for starters, my wife and I ordered Steak and our friends both ordered Chicken pie. All our food was served promptly & hot. The only complaints were with additional items that we had to ask for, requiring more than one asking (e.g. Steak knives and sauces) two of the staff appeared to be new.We ordered a bottle of Rosa Zinfandel wine (normally one of our favourite wines) it was not the cheapest on the wine list, it had no body, was tasteless like sugar water and only 10%. I also ordered an Aspalls draft cider when it was served to our table it was cloudy (It was not a scrumpy cider), Drinks were the big let-down. One better idea was the small taster deserts that could be ordered as an extra with coffee. This would not stop us going again but a little more attention to detail is required.

I've been here twice before in recent years, and have always been satisfied. The menu is changed frequently it seems, which means there is always something new to try. On this visit I had my elderly parents with me, one of whom relies on a wheelchair. The disabled parking is near to the entrance and we had no trouble getting in and out of the building. The waitress was polite and really helpful in finding a good table with the right kind of chair. It was quiet when we first arrived and the food arrived very quickly - Beef and Merlot Pie, Scampi with chips and salad, and smoked haddock kedgiree fish cakes with broccoli and salad. The portions were plentiful, and everything was cooked and presented well.We will certainly visit again.

Having said we wouldn't be back, because we were struggling to think of somewhere for an ad hoc early dinner that's not Pizza Express we gave it another go. More fool us.This place is just generally poor quality food, poor quality service and just not really very good. The thing is it's not actually cheap either! As we had to pay for everything as we went (clever stuff, Bay Horse - no chance of anybody refusing to pay for rubbish food if you get their money up front, eh?). I don't know exactly what we spent but I'd guess £60 for three for one starter and three main courses plus a drink? Too much, anyway. We arrived and sat outside to be told that we "can't run a tab outside". This is presumably because at some point someone's done a runner. Well maybe the management would like to calculate the costs of the occasional runner with cheesing off everyone who expects to pay for a meal at the end, rather than each course as you order it.Then the table was FILTHY - I don't mean a few crumbs - I mean sticky-icky stuff, lumps of food etc. A nice lady came and wiped it when we asked - but my issue is that someone cleared that table, saw the mess and thought "whatever - it'll do".Then our food arrived - the roast dinner (as usual most roasts were "off" by 6pm on a Sunday) was lukewarm, the veg was dried up and the "bottomless gravy" was so salty it was almost inedible (and not bottomless - it was just poured onto the plate). My daughter was sat next to me and she said "that just smells of stock cubes".I also ordered a plain burger for my daughter that arrived with the works on it - bacon, cheese etc etc. I took it back insode and it was swiftly replaced (presumably we got the wrong order) but by now I'd had enough. In the interests of balance, my daughters declared the chips "ok". So please - if anybody sees me approaching this place to "give them another try" - remind me of the two hideous experiences we've had and send me to the Bull or the Tempest before it's too late.It may be better on other days, but Sunday is just dreadful.

We came here not knowing any review or the place itself. We came on a Thursday evening about 6pm, were greeted politely and shown to a table. The server provided us with menus and came back five minutes later to take our order. Prices are reasonable, portions are a good size and the service and food were excellent. I don't always believe the odd negative review of Fish n Chip Restaurants as not all positive reviews are recorded, just the negative ones. We will definitely be returning when we are in the area again.

We booked a table here the other night for 5.30 and we had the fish pie and lamb shank and a pint. Food arrived in good time. The portion sizes were huge and very tasty and only just fit on the plates. The food was definitely warm enough as it took a while to cool to eating temperature. The Fish pie had lots of fish and prawns in it aswell as a really delicious sauce and creamy mashed potato. The lamb shank was large and very tasty. Nice friendly staff. Very reasonable prices and good beer. Decor had a nice old fashioned pub charm which unfortunately you don't see anymore with bistro ponsy pubs everywhere. Not sure where all the negative reviews of this pub are from, probably by miserable customers who expect royal service and silver tableware but don't want to pay the price for it. Would highly recommend this family run pub.
