Visited today with my wife Lovely meal of cod and chips and a curry sauce Two teas to round off a wonderful meal Fish batter was lovely and crispy, lovely white flakes of fish, chips lovely and fluffy in middle and crispy on outside Will definitely be calling in again whilst on holiday Highly recommended

Finally got to eat here on our final night in Wadebridge. Enjoyed it massively. I had the fish cakes with mushy peas and a portion of chips ( shared - there was plenty). There was a lovely green salad that we opted for, which was delicious. To round it off - a pot of tea, obviously. Great service and reasonable prices. A must for eating out, and a return visit

I have visited this place on numerous occasions and been very happy with a sit down meal, but not this time ……… Called in on Saturday 18th December for takeaway fish and chips. My wife was entering and putting her mask on when she was very rudely and aggressively challenged by a big woman behind the counter. This woman by the way was wearing a scruffy green Christmas jumper with no PPE coverage in these dangerous and unprecedented times during a volatile pandemic- outrageous. Dirty. Anyway fish and chips were ordered and delivered with a grunt. I specifically asked if forks and napkins were included and a snapped answer was received in the affirmative. Extra forks were put in a by a lovely younger member of staff ‘just in case’. This person had been continually and rudely interrupted by the older member of staff whilst I was ordering, seriously undermining her. Guess what, no napkins or forks had been put in originally. So server lazy as well as incompetent/ rude/ aggressive as she didn’t check. If you don’t like your work go somewhere else !! Chips were nice although a very measly portion, supposed to be a large portion but definitely wasn’t. Fish was over cooked and the batter was saturated in fat, I felt ill afterwards as a result. I would have complained but the said staff member was originally so aggressive that I thought better of it. Avoid avoid avoid, I will be using the competitor up the road in future.

Takeaway section opens into busy road. Despite plastic screens and staff wearing mask you are forced to stand outside on the narrow pavement whilst waiting for your food. Instead inside the well Ventilated waiting area. No one else queuing. I made the mistake of coming back inside to look at the menu whilst waiting for our food and was given a volley by the female member of staff and told to get outside. Then when I was handed my food I was given a dose of attitude I can only guess for having the audacity to react to her rudeness with my opinion if the ridiculous rules. Food was very average. There is a better chippy slightly up the hill by Lidl. Avoid there are better places that are more Welcoming

Last night took daughter and grandson for take away the food was cold the cheesy chips were discussing could not eat, the burgers over cooked if u call that salad 1 piece lettuce and 1 slice cucumber well it was not cheap meal, would not recommend or go back

Can't say I could fault the food, was lovely..even though I was barked at to wait outside and did so for 20 minutes. The "lady" who opened up and served me put her hand in my face and barked "social distance"...considering I was nowhere near 2 meters I very nearly walked out. I have never encountered such a rude and obnoxious member of staff in my life! My meal was virtually thrown at me in a plastic bag. I would not come again...your front of house needs some basic customer service skills and fast. Unimpressed and would not recommend on that basis.

So me and my friend rang up and ordered some food, spoke to a lady on the phone who was polite. We then collected our food and also asked for 2* Mayo, to which we then got home and thought the Mayo tasted funny, so we then checked the date of the Sauce which was out of date. Obviously like any costumer, we were not impressed so then rang up explaining to a rude member of staff our sauce was out of date... we did not receive any sort of an apology or were not asked if we wanted a refund, he asked if we wanted to change the sauce for one that were in date but as soon as we said “no we were just giving you a heads up so you could make sure it doesn’t happen to another costumer” he said “oh ok” and hung up the phone. From someone who works in hospitality I thought it was substandard service... food was not bad but I certainly will not be eating there again due to the rude member of staff. Good customer service certainly has a massive impact on someone’s visit to a business and this is one that does not provide it.

Visited for lunch and used the restaurant rather than takeaway as raining heavily. All covid-19 measurements in place and tables more than 2 metres apart. The food was good and arrived very quickly. If visiting Wadebridge I would certainly recommend a visit.

We took our fish and chips away, to eat at the beach near Polzeath. Everyone agreed it was the nicest fish and chips we’d had - the batter was crispy and tasty, the portions were good, and my daughter was happy to find her chicken nuggets were actual breast meat, and perfectly cooked. A meal we would make sure to repeat next time we’re in Cornwall!

Ate in with a couple friends all our food was lovley staff was polite and caring would recommend this place

The food was delicious and the staff was polite as a local i have seen nasty customers who if they was kond and considerate would face alot better service then complaining about having to wait for food to be cooked fresh the staff work hard to feed all you people so show some respect

Food was decent, slightly overpriced and very small portions (don’t expect a large chips to feed a family!) The staff are super rude with absolutely no customer services skills. Why don’t you all try smiling and getting food out in a timely manor :)!

I mean, the food was tasty, if you like children’s portions. Staff were awful with no communication. Seen better people skills at McDonald’s. Really need to up their customer service game.

We ordered a take away on the phone , just a simple order chicken , chips , plain burger ( which the guy on the phone repeated plain ). Picked it up and took it home , burger was literally smothered in mayo with all the extras in so that went straight in the bin. Chicken was bone dry and I don’t know what happened with the chips they were disgusting limp , chewy and looked anaemic. I rang and spoke to quite a off girl who didn’t seem to care less didn’t offer me any option so when I asked said she would take my name and number and get a call back , never happened . Laughing on the phone , we are local but it shows their priorities . I hate running local business down but their lack of customer service is almost as bad as the food which we ended up binning 90% of it At least . Will always go to Jon’s now we’ve never ever had bad food from there and the staff are always friendly

After reading some of the recent reviews i felt inclined to post my own review.I bring my elderly father in law once a month here as a treat he absolutely loves it.we live locally and this is by far the best Fish n Chips in and around Wadebridge..Never had a bad experience, staff really polite, fish is always beautiful, good portions and a very reasonable price..we will be returning soon.

Visit twice while on holiday the first visit was faultless , second visit not good batter raw and chips reheated. No check back by waitress who was busy chatting to the lady cooking. I would not visit this place again or recommend .

Arrived 1830, not too busy inside but 5 dirty tables left with plates etc. Wait 15 mins to order (then to order again as somehow 'lost'), only one waiting staff working on a Friday evening?? 45 min wait for food order (2 tables of later arrivals received their meal orders before ours!!). Had to quite noisily remonstarte with waitress as to reasons and lengthy delay etc. Just to get our order. When eventually arrived chips very underdone and fish just about average.This place used to be one of the best Fish & Chip Restaurants in N. Cornwall and we used on many occassions. BUT will never visit or use again as there appears to be a complete lack of how to continue to function as a business.Worst around area.....!

Went in for sit down meal,they also do take away,lovely food,fluffy crispy chips,lovely white flakey moist cod,homemade chicken nuggets,very tasty and good quality chicken,very clean,foid cooked to order,so lovely and fresh,friendly staff. All in all a very good meal, also do lasagne,chilli,steaks etc. So something to suit everyone. Highly recommend. Have been there several times over the years when on holiday and have never had a bad meal.

We went to the restaurant for fish and chips with my family, after reading some reviews on here, the chips and fish both had obviously been sitting there a while and was very greasy, I asked for the thick bread! (89p per slice) expecting some nice fresh baked thick lovely bread for 89p however this was not to be we got what I would call Tesco simple cheep Stale! Bread, the crusts Wes hard like it was frozen and defrosted in the microwave, Fish &chips 2 Cheese and chips ( wife kids like them)2 small gravy’s2 cans of pop And the ridiculous bread £24.80 absolute rip off!!!!! Never again!!

Popped in on a whim whilst shopping in Wadebridge. The fish and chips were perfect; fresh fish in a crisp but not oily batter and a huge portion of chips. Friendly service too - and they didn’t mind my dog coming along too.

We decided to get take out whilst driving through wadebridge. Lovely fish and chips can't fault. Would definitely visit again.

Had lunch here at the restaurant. Friendly lady, quick service, everything was cooked fresh to order. The Cod was amazing, a nice crisp, non greasy, batter and the fish itself was as white as could be. My partner had the chicken nuggets and was equally impressed - good size chunks of breast meat with a nicely flavoured seasoning around them, almost like 'southern fried' taste. Would 100% recommend.

Good food staff are friendly reasonably priced also have the option to sit in which is great, definitely worth a visit

Having read the reviews of which I thought 3 months down the line they would of improved, unfortunately not. We were the only ones in after a family just left at 3:30.

We had fish and chips in Barney's the food was good but the service from the you g man was appalling he had no manners at all if this was my business he wood by having his p45 the owners really need to sort out there employees

The chips were 1/2 cooked and the cod bites were really greasy Two out of four of us had really bad stomach pains later in the evening Told it was nice but it was first and last time Staff were nice though but food disgusting

Out with a small group and struggling to find a pub with a menu we all liked, decided to sit down in the fish n chip restaurant. We were served quickly and good portions we all thoroughly enjoyed the food, I had the steak pie, delicious, great service too from the friendly and welcoming staff, despite us arriving quite close to closing tome we were made welcome and had a really enjoyable evening.

Price for takeaway chips fair,fresh hot chips however very , very small portions . Come on people fill the tray up.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch. The staff were polite and friendly. I had the chicken curry and rice which was ok and a reasonable portion and my wife had a jacket potato with coleslaw. The jacket was dry and part of the innards was black and the salad, which comprised of a couple of lettuce leaves and tomato was limp and dry respectively. The best I can say is it filled a hole but we won't be rushing back.

Lovely food, polite staff and reasonable prices. Portions are of good size too. I always recommend this place to people. Keep up the good work guys 😊

Waste of time. Waste of money. Who wants cold chips? Who is happy to SERVE cold chips. Terrible. And now I have to fill space so I teach 100 characters.

We walked past and it smelt lovely so thought we would return and have dinner, well I wish we hadnt, we ordered rock salmon and chips x2 battered sausage and chips, gravy and curry sauce bread and butter, a roll and 2 cokes, everything came out on seperate plates it was weird, literally a battered sausage on a plate and then the chips on all separate plates fish again on seperate plates! We ordered medium chips each which were loads a whole plateful per portion had we have known they would come out like this I would have ordered only 1 portion,instead of ordering 3 costing over seven pound! The bread and roll was supposed to come from the local really nice bakery which it certainly didn't it was a standard supermarket slice of white bread again the same for the roll costing nearly 2 pound!the battered sausages were white and horrible looking with soggy batter the fish was passable but again no where near as nice as I've had elsewhere, the gravy was big standard gravy granules that was thick and gelatinous, I could have easily saved a tenner on less chips, no bread and no gravy,all in all I completely regret wasting 30 pound on a horrible greasy dinner especially when we are on holiday trying to be on a budget and this was the only time we could afford a meal out, so disappointed.

In a town where pub and restaurant food seems vastly overpriced this was a fab find.

Had fish and chips takeaway, last night had to wait 20 minuets after ordering!! People were being given their orders out of sequence, which is poor . Chap in the kitchen could clearly not cope , he was on his own !! Food is good but waiting time ridiculous!

Based on the TA reviews we drove down the road from our campsite to buy the family a fish & chip tea from here and were left very disappointed. It took a very long time to receive our order - not because the food was “being cooked freshly” like their signs say but because the guy serving was so exceptionally slow and kept getting distracted by questions from other members of staff about restaurant orders. When we finally got our bagged up order we drove back to our campsite (a whole 5 min drive) and opened up our tea to discover cold chips (the cheese on them wasn’t even slightly melted they were that cold) and not only that - our jumbo sausages were in fact small despite being charged for large. I called up Barny’s straight away to make a complaint and just kept being told by the lady on the other end that she couldn’t hear me. So I gave up and ate my cold dinner (apart from the sausage as it was fatty, disgusting and obviously very cheap!), threw my kids boxes in the bin (as they wouldn’t eat them) and resigned to the fact I was £20 down and vowed never to go back. If anyone is looking for a decent fish and chip shop in Wadebridge then this is definitely not the one!!!!!!!!

We had mixed feelings about visiting Barny's due to mixed reviews on this site. However to speak as we found our visit was good. All staff we encountered were very warm and friendly. One in particular went out of her way to make a fuss of our children which was very welcome.

It was back when i last visited a fish and chips shop in the UK. But when I visited this one , I left satisfied , and remembered of kid days visiting the UK. Thanks

Stuck for somewhere to eat we found Barny's. It didn't disappoint as the fish tasted really fresh. Don't go anywhere else!

Well in a town called Wadebridge in North Cornwall there is a fish and chip shop called Barney’s Fish & Chips. We thought that sounds good and the establishment looked good centrally located in the town. Upon arrival at what is called the take away area there were around eight people waiting. So proceeded to the window and ordered cod and chips for two people I was given just the credit card print out but unlike other places I have been I was not given an order number, I did think to myself it was strange. Other people who ordered after me did not get any order number either.

This was one of the best Cod and chips we've had. They do a very small 50p chips which suited me perfectly. The cod was delicious, lightly battered and a good size. Highly recommend.

what a lovely meal I heard that the fish and chips re getting better here use to go for years then stopped due to the new one opening but tonight I fort il give this place another try and 10/10 best fish and chips I’ve had in long time, well done

Excellent takeaway,really lovely food and very reasonably priced,prib the cheapest in the area. Have been there several times and its always good. They also offer a restaurant which is also very good. Excellent service and very clean

All the staff are so helpful and kind I would go there everyday if I could all the food is delicious.

Ordered a burger and chips simple enough food I thought however, they clearly couldn’t be bothered to heat the griddle and cook the burger properly and instead I received a deep fried tough as leather frisbee in a bun that was meant to be a burger high prices for low quality.

My partner and myself called in the takeaway for fish and chips and I can honestly say Never Again. The chips were poor and the fish was diabolical, it wasnt cooked properly and made my partner quite ill.

Not overly priced and good portions. Food is cooked fresh so some times a bit of a wait but overall good value. Have not eaten in the restaurant itself but it always looks busy which is a good sign.

The fish is generally always really nice and fresh, however, the chips are usually are a hit or miss. But this is the case with most places. The staff here are really nice and usually theres not much of a waiting time unless its on the really busy days. They've also recently moved away from polystyrene and back to paper packing which makes the food takes so much better

Been here many times and its always excellent. I had to complement the owner on his chips this last visit, he told me its the current potatoes he is using, lets hope he keeps using them [unfortunately I cannot remember there name]

Had a great fish and chips from Barnys on the 24th lovely flakey white fish light crispy batter and good proper chips keep it up guys.

Were visiting Wadebridge, where there seemed to be a distinct lack of nice eating places, so decided to opt for traditional fish and chips. This is a large restaurant with lots of comfortable seating. Friendly waiter, who quickly took order. This restaurant doesn't serve alcohol, so we opted for a pot of tea. Fish and chips freshly cooked, crisp batter and crispy chips. Very tasty. Not a cheap meal but fish and chips are expensive these days.

We called in by chance as we had just finished the both camel bike trails.

All chips cooked separately in their own frier which makes them gluten free. We only wanted chips (to go with some pasties we'd bought somewhere else). Good to see chippy chips that are GF everyday.

One of few places open in Wadebridge, quiet when we arrived though business got better. really nice fish & chips, well presented and good, friendly service - and much cheaper than Rick Stein's place in Padstow which had a queue outside!!

what a difference a year makes. We were so looking forward to having a meal here after visiting just over a year ago but were very disappointed! We ordered 2 fish and chips and 1 scampi and chips. The latter was enjoyed but the fish was obviously tail end fillets, very thin, dry and stringy along the edges with thick crusty batter. The chips were not as nice as we remembered either. The only thing that was the same was the carpet, which still needs replacing. Prices had gone up too. Sadly, will not be going again. Cannot recommend this time.

Had anenjoyable lunchtime meal here. Generous portions and well cooked Fish & Chips. Interesting view through the front window watching all the traffic going through the town. Very pleasant & helpful waiting staff.

We got a takeaway as it was our first night and wanted to settle into our accommodation. Great food, good sized portions. Good value for money. Would go back again.

We were in Wadebridge on our first day of our holiday and decided to have fish and chips and went to Barnys. We both had Rock Salmon and chips. The fish was cooked fresh and the batter was crispy and not soggy, the chips were also good. The cost was reasonable. If you are in Wadebridge you may want to give this establishment a try.

We were visiting family staying at a nearby holiday park. There were 8 of us in total 4 Adults & 4 Children. We were served quickly by a friendly waitress. Food came out quickly along with drinks. Good fish & chips & mushy peas & home made tartar sauce. Good food & service and ideal location, would highly recommend & would go back if we ever go back to Wadebridge.

Bought two fish, a large chips and a mushy peas for the first night of our week on Wadebridge. Batter on fish was thick, but well cooked and flaky white inside. Peas also good, but am will continue searching for something with more flavour. Takeaway service fairly prompt, but not particularly friendly or welcoming.

If you fancy fish & Chips Barnys is the place to go. Good food pleasant staff decent prices need I say more. Have been here a few times over the years and it has always been OK.Couple of P&D car parks in the town. Be careful about the Lidl car park they have camera's. Why do we have to pay to go shopping in the town centres, no wonder the shops are struggling, the government should cut the Foreign Aid budget to help the people of this country.instead.A selection of shops up the high street, typical nice country town . Have a good look at the bridge built on wool when Wadebridge was more prosperous than it is now.

Wanted some fish and chips to take away for a family gathering which totalled 24. I rang a few days before and my request was taken and my order noted. The day before I needed the food, the owner called me to confirm timings. On arrival, my order was just being wrapped after being cooked freshly, labelled and bagged up. The cod, sausages and chips were all delicious, extremely tasty and cooked to perfection. Thank you so much.

This is the best place for eat in or takeaway fish and chips. They also do a mean lasagne - a huge portion and a good cup of team. Perfect for a tea time treat.

I visit this fish and chip Resturant every time I visit Wadebridge great tasting fish and chips freshly cooked once your order has been placed and the Cod bites are the best I have ever tasted.

We had fish and chips and ice cream at Barnys. It has small town atmosphere, and we were well looked after. There was no server for some reason, so the bus boy was looking after us, but he was very friendly and did his best. We didn't suffer! We'll be back.

says that there pasties are made fresh in there own bakery but I seen the guy pull the pasty from a barnecutts (red and white) paper bag then nuked it in the microwave.. If I wanted one from barnecutts I would have went there.... Smh,,, surely you know microwaving pastry goes soggy then rock hard,

I popped in to use the restaurant during my lunch, when the waiter came over he didn't say a word, just stood by my table waiting for my order, my food came quickly but was greasy and I couldn't eat some of it. I also had a Diet Coke to drink which was for starters tiny for a large but also tasted so obviously that it was from a poor mixing machine.I work in Wadebridge regularly but won't be visiting Barnys again!!!

Restaurant is nice enough, service ok not particularly friendly or welcoming. The cod and chips were fine, not the best I've had but not the worst. My cod was a lot smaller than my hubby's although they only serve regular cod. The kids cod bites and chips were not bad value at £3.75 and come in a nice box. The menu said the kids meals come with a toy but they didn't, only a tiny box of crayons with a colouring/puzzle book. £25 for 2 adults and 2 kids (we only drank tap water) so average value for money.

Like many folks we have had fish and chips the length and breadth of the land, yes? Well, if you are anywhere close to Wadebridge then try Barnys. We ate on the premises, (also 'take-away' your F and Cs if you desire) our order was taken at the table and only a short wait ensued. Fish with the lightest, crispest batter, golden chips and mushy peas with a wedge of fresh lemon. The portion was generous, I mean generous, and really, really good. I can't remember having better, try for yourself. Five generous stars awarded to Barnys!

Just called Barnys to place a telephone order. I was told very abruptly and rudely to "call back in 20 minutes, we're busy".... we instead went to the shop to find them not busy at all. After receiving our meal, it was disgusting. Thrown together in their boxes grease everywhere. I should have known better not to go there when they were so rude on the phone. They might get away with talking to holiday makers like that, but not locals!!!

Great food, cooked while you wait but always fresh, not greasy! Nice seating area. Perfect end to walking or cycling the old rail line!!! Highly recommend. 10/10

Came here for fish and chips which were really nice! We were staying at a local campsite and fancied for F+C! Fish was very good and chips were lovely. Would Recommend highly!

We called in for some lunch whilst on holiday in St Merryn. I had a craving for a real Cornish pasty and chips, the pasty was ok nothing special but the chips were awful... really dry as if they had been sat there for too long. What a disappointment.

Had dinner in here while staying over the road. It was quite busy with a nice amosphere. Service was good and lovely mug of tea. The only down side was the fish was tasteless and the batter very greasy. It was not terrible, I suppose the overall experience was ok, just thought it would be better because of how busy it was. I was probably just unlucky.

1st Visit to Barnys.....The Restaurant is very clean, spacious, Toilets cleaned regularly, Was very pleased with the service, Told to take a seat as soon as we entered and some one will come and take our order, we had been sat down for only 5 minutes when a young lad come and took our order, which was served to us in roughly 15 minutes. Excellent food, Large portion, certainly excellent value for money, I would recommend anyone who is visiting Wadebridge to visit Barnys....

Staff ignoring customers waiting. No apology for the wait and the female staff member I spoke to was very abrupt. Long wait for food to be cooked. I couldn't recommend.

Lovely fish/scampi and chips here. Generous portions at a reasonable price. My husband thought it tasted better than the meal we had at a well known chef's fish restaurant during the week! The only criticism is that the carpet could do with replacing and it was a bit disconcerting using the only toilet (very clean)as the window was quite low and faces the busy road outside!Would recommend. 5 rating for hygiene.

Visited Barnys fish and chips recently whilst on holiday, I had the large haddock and my partner and daughter had sausage and chips, for the price it wasn't bad but the chips where really dry and not the most enjoyable eating experience, I had eaten here before and it was a good fish and chips but this time I found myself disappointed

This is a no-frills fish and chips restaurant/takeaway by the main roundabout in central Wadebridge, which seems rather short on places to eat after the shops shut in the early evening. The fish (cod) was extremely fresh and cooked just right, so that it retained some moisture without being soggy. Chips were standard. Our visit produced a notably disappointed child who when choosing 'bolognaise' from the child's menu expected there to be some kind of pasta with the sauce. I was equally surprised but readily accept that there was nothing promised on the menu. Service was fine and the place was clean.

Meal we all wanted was unavailable , 2nd choice also unavailable. Went for Burger and chips in the end , not what i wanted really. Thought I broke a tooth to find a stone in my chips. The chips were cast offs from the bottom of the fryer with plenty of crispy bits to crunch on. I complained about the stone, only to get an apology . I would have preferred a discount or refund but was never offered it. My partner couldn't get out of her chair as some large person had sat behind her and was stuck. On a plus note the burger was nice and the kids meal was fun as it came in a box with puzzles and pencils. The staff were polite. Not going to return.

Visited for lunch. Liked to see tables of more than 4 set up, rather than having to move tables. Not clear where to order and the waiter eventually came over. Drinks menu was limited however the food choices were good. The food arrived quickly and was average- ok but nothing special. Would have preferred bottles of sauce not small sachets. The restaurant could do with a full clean and the toilets could do with looking at- sloped roof makes it difficult to stand and window leads onto main street- albeit frosted glass, my relative managed to see in!

Always good fish and chips at Barneys. Decent prices, good portion sizes and nice food! Would always go back

Pleasant staff with a 'family' feel to all who work there. Pleasant table service and a small wait whilst the food is freshly prepared. Not the cheapest chippy I've ever been in - but well worth the extra couple of pounds. Well prepared with crispy batter and proper chips. Proper job!

We have enjoyed the food from Barnys on a number of occasions usually after walking our dog along part of the Camel Trail. Generally the service provided is excellent and whilst you have to wait for your food order to be cooked this ensures that it is always freshly cooked and piping hot. Every visit the food has been well cooked and presented in a way that transport back to our car not a problem. Overall the prices are well within range and will always be a reason to visit Wadebridge
