We had a great meal at the Barbon Inn. The place was busy but they fitted us in in the bar area which we were very grateful for as we’d just done a 10 mile walk! The service was friendly and I had a delicious local gin and tonic. Our food was excellent, there’s a good menu and everything was delicious. The desserts were great too. This is a lovely traditional pub with a friendly atmosphere, we’d definitely return- thank you 😊

Stayed one night at Barbon Inn. Very disappointing. Shabby, room tired, badly chipped, damp, paintwork, shabby chipped, cheap modern furniture, not in keeping with what could be a beautifully sympathetically restored Inn. Owners dog in dining room, acknowledging dog friendly & as a dog owner, fine with dogs, but not roaming freely & sitting at tables whilst eating. Evening meal ok. Breakfast cold & bland selection. Under new ownership so hopefully will be sympathetically restored to what could be a lovely pub. Beautiful original black range in pub, which is heart of the pub. Lovely features but desperately needing restoration, paint & new wallpaper. Very very overpriced at £106.00 a night!!

Lovely walk from Kirkby Lonsdale and you arrive here. Old pub and although a bit run down, we were made very welcome from the staff the moment we walked in. Prices were higher than expected for drinks. We did manage however, to sit in the beer garden, before the rain came on. The resident dog, Chaos was lovely and friendly too.

Visited this pub a few times during the week as we were staying in a nearby holiday cottage. Couldn’t be made to feel more welcome by the owners and the locals. Everyone was really friendly and we met some lovely people during the week. The pub is very dog friendly and as dog lovers that was great. The highlights were Sue the springer and Rio the Viszla! Not forgetting of course the resident pooch Chaos, lovely dog. Lovely cold beer, decent brandy, and on the 1 occasion that we ate here the food was unpretentious and tasty and good value. If you see game pie on the specials get in quick, one of the nicest pies I’ve eaten! All in all a great place to spend some time, the owners should be really applauded for making this such a lovely country pub. We really hope to be able to revisit some time in the future.

Lovely country pub at the base of Barbon Fell. Real fires, friendly new owners in an atmospheric setting. The food was fantastic. We had the roast beef dinner, superb. Lots of tender beef, and a wonderful Yorkie accompanied by lovely cooked vegetables. Dog friendly is always a plus and their own dog called Chaos was a friendly character who calmed my old dog down. Well recommended for a fantastic meal and have to add the glass of Merlot was to die for 🤣 We will be back , sooner rather than later 😊

Very disappointed. Even with the special offer we didn’t expect the rooms and hotel to be so shabby. Our room was in dire need of an upgrade, even though the website said it had been renovated recently. The carpet was in a bad state being very worn in places and heavily stained. Bathroom extremely small with old fittings and holes in wall. The inn in general was very tired and needed a upgrade. Food in the evening was awful, the steak and ale pie was no and the meat was very pale. No chips so had roasted potatoes which had obviously been fried in the chip oil and had a peculiar taste. The gammon wasn’t much better. Not good value for money. Breakfast was okay nothing spectacular but better than the evening meal. No fresh milk! Sorry but we won’t be coming back despite the staff doing their best and very helpful and friendly.

We holidayed in Barbon recently & the Barbon Inn was our village go to pub. Very traditional & dog friendly which was idea. it’s also a hotel. In all, we ate there 3 times that week & between us we sampled the steak pie, local venison sausages, homemade lasagne & fish n chips. All were lovely. Great choice of beers. The only thing stopping it being 5 star was after the first visit they removed the specials board as they were a chef down. This restricted the menu a bit. Plus on the 3rd visit we were the only ones in the restaurant section & so a bit soulless. The 2nd visit had us next to a posh bloke who was showing off to the whole pub about what he’d done & what he’d got. Which was a bit tiresome. Our first night was the best when we had the specials board & got talking with other tourists in the bar area. A cracking night. We are back in Aug & will be eagerly sampling the food & beers again. Specials Board back on hopefully 🤞

Stayed nearby in holiday accommodation. Place was recommended in holiday literature. Went for a special meal to celebrate a night away without our children and husband getting the all clear from cancer. We dressed up but would have been more comfortable in jeans and a jumper. We were given the choice of being wedged up to a wall by a walk through to the kitchen next to a chap with a dog and a couple with a lively toddler (this wss the main room by tge bar as you go in.through the door) or on our own in the next room. We chose the next room which was quiet but chilly. They lit the fire for us but I kept my coat on throughout as it was cold without it. The menu was basic with no steak option. I had pie which was perfectly adequate pub grub. Husband had fish and chips. The staff were very pleasant which was the redeeming feature.

As a B&B I found it disappointing as the bed in room 5 was uncomfortable (I could feel the springs digging in to me), the shower was weak, and the frying smells from the kitchen pervaded the upstairs landing. There was also a strange humming noise until 10pm which I assume was an extractor fan in the kitchen below. Fortunately there's hardly any traffic so we had the window open through the night. I have to say the towels and bedding were perfectly clean, and we had a reasonable evening meal in the restaurant - menu tried to be adventurous but not matched by skill (burger served in a shop-bought bun, steak pie just had a puff pastry lid, etc.). Breakfast was ok (but sausage hard, hash brown greasy), and the service was friendly. I think this Inn is 'ordinary' as somewhere to dine or have a drink, and they're short-staffed. The building clearly has history and is furnished accordingly (there's also a lovely outdoor area), but the accommodation is a bit shabby and unloved. Spoke to chef/owner in the morning but he was too busy to pay much attention.

Don’t bother. Booked a room for a business colleague so he was in the town centre. The place let me down and left me looking stupid. He told me his room was cold and not particularly clean and the shower had a constant drip which made it hard to fall to sleep. He also said there was no hot breakfast available in the morning. Such a shame.
