Went here for first time this weekend as just moved to area. The jacket potatoes were hard and lacked any presentation. The baguettes were dry , hardly no filling and just thrown together ! The prices for what they are serving is shocking . Also saw the server raming food in his mouth while serving , no handwashing or anything , avoid!

Virtually no coffee in the coffee - I would say on a strength scale of 1-5 it was a 1 at best - barely coloured the tepid milk. No particular customer service to speak of - no pleasantries - could not even be bothered to look up from her phone when we said thankyou and goodbye. Toilet - don't go there - pretty awful - filthy floor - no soap - a hand dryer not fit for purpose. Such a shame - Bampton as a village have been put on the map - there were coach loads there today - Downton Abbey followers - mostly American - and this was the best they were offered - pretty awful sadly.

Stopped here for cream tea, which was not to be found on the menu (bad sign), and instead had a cup of coffee and some onion rings. The coffee was burnt and the onion rings were undercooked and had no flavor- didn’t even know that was possible. A total waist of time and money so please take my advice and find somewhere else much better!

Just stopped in here for a coffee (and toilet break) but changed our mind and had some lunch instead. Shamefully I had an ice cold coke due to a desperate need for something cold and energy boosting 🙈 ... but the prawn and avocado salad was delicious! The prawns are cooked and served hot/warm straight of the pain. The whole thing was delicious. The portion size was good, but i enjoyed it so much i wish there was more. I am gluten/wheat intolerant so normally hate the limited options offered (jacket potato and salads) but this was a salad worth getting. No food regret! Mum had a cheeseburger which she said was alright (thats Aussie for no complaints) she gobbled half before I took the photo. It is a nice little cafe. It is clean, and there was space for our buggy, my daughter slept in it next to me. I heard a local commenting on how busy they were yesterday. It seems popular with the locals. The price was reasonable for a salad, burger, tea and bottled drink under £17. I read one persons comments about them being unfriendly. I don’t think this is the case, it might have been a language barrier and he didn’t understand what she was on about? They were helpful to us, and attentive to everyone around us. We’d come back; i would try another salad!

Stopped here for a coffee and cake whilst visiting this little village where a lot of Downton Abbey was filmed. My husband popped to the car to get my jacket whilst I stood in the doorway of the café and waited. The man behind the counter did not bother to acknowledge me so I said hello and told him that we would be coming in in a minute or two. He was still disinterested. It was rather embarrassing standing there without being chatted to so I decided to wait outside! When my husband arrived we both chose a different cake which were labelled as home-made, and a cappuccino each. I noticed there were quite a few ants crawling around on the counter so we purposely chose cakes that had a glass dome covering them as many others were left uncovered. The table we sat down at was sticky with ring marks from the previous customer. The cake and coffee arrived and still the man did not engage with us. As we were the only two people inside the café it was rather quiet and therefore embarrassing when we were trying to have a private conversation. My slice of coffee and walnut cake was disappointingly small but worse still, when I started eating it I found it was very stale and dry. I left 3/4 of it as quite frankly it was inedible. My husband said his cake tasted like a cheap supermarket one and he was convinced it was definitely not home-made!Nobody came to ask how our food and drinks were. When we eventually went to pay I mentioned to the man that my cake was dry and stale. There was no apology or look of surprise, in fact he didn’t say a word, he just carried on taking our payment. At the last second he said he had taken some money off the bill but still no apology was forthcoming. It was one of those occasions where you really wished you’d walked past and found somewhere more friendly and inviting that served fresh food!

There’s a large choice of food (all the standard things you’d expect to find in a place like this) so we ordered a couple of simple sandwiches to go with our coffee. On arriving at this beautiful village on a very hot Monday we were in desperate need of a cup of tea and light lunch. This was the only coffee shop open & looked inviting with people sat outside. We ordered tea and panini’s & we were really looking forward to them. After a long wait (& we were the only people inside) 3 mugs of tea were slapped on the table and to my horror still had the tea bags in the mugs. There was nothing to put the tea bags on or get them out with which meant fingers had to be used or the tea would have been stewed by the time we got teaspoons. Which was not only unhygienic but very hot! The paninis then came, again just slapped on a plate with no garnish or anything...no salad just 2 anaemic lumps of what looked like squashed baguettes with the thinnest piece of ham and tiniest amount of cheese ...They were luke warm with the cheese not even slightly melted....Awful ! No one came to ask us if we needed anything or if everything was ok....At £19.70 for this all I can say is we will not be visiting this establishment again. Very disappointed.

Bampton coffee House set in the Market Square offers a refreshing change from the large chains found in most cities with its homely, rural feel where customers are on first name terms with the staff. The decor is muted and has a library cum front room look. The food is tasty and served at your table with hot or cold drinks. I am fussy about my hot chocolate and this tasted perfect. Food is freshly made to order and the take away service is popular with regulars who pop in and order at the bar from a wide but sensible menu. If you want something more substantial fish and chips is advertised on the billboard outside but I was not stopping long enough to try it.

Only cafe in town so Hobson's choice. However, menu options pretty satisfying, providing an 'all-day breakfast' is always a safe bet, except there didn't seem to be a vegetarian option offered. I instead opted for egg x 2, chips and beans and a mug of tea - £7.60. Not the cheapest but not outrageous.Reasonable quantity, although I'd have liked more and nicely presented. Ditto the mug of tea, not quite full to the brim. Ketchup, I had to ask for and then was taken away for another table. I get the feeling that that they're perhaps making savings by easing off on quantities all round (?).The place was clean, quiet and pleasant. The staff were friendly although not overly forward. No asking if everything is ok, or would I like ketchup etc.I don't not-recommend. All in all, OK.

I was 'home alone' last weekend and so was able to get lots of things done and enjoy a bit of 'out and about'. So en route to Witney to do some shopping (three hours' free parking? - you couldn't beat it with a big stick!), I stopped by in Bampton for some brunch.A warm welcome and an outside table awaited; I ordered a seriously large fried breakfast and a big cup of black coffee with hot milk. They arrived quickly and smilingly, but most important of all they were HOT. Oh my goodness, I don't know how many lukewarm beverages I've endured in recent months (all so-called barista-babe chains please take note, your coffee is totally tepid). By contrast, this was a complete pleasure. Even coffee which has once been hot, but is starting too cool, tastes good. I really enjoyed it! Delicious also was the Olympic breakfast; whilst the ingredients are perhaps not of the highest (blah blah locally sourced etc etc) quality, they were fresh, properly cooked, nicely served, HOT and in front of me. Which was the whole point. Not being a baked beans lover, I was able to substitute these for mushrooms - with no fuss. The place was busy with locals and some Dutch visitors, the latter enjoying some Downton scenery, and all seemed happy. There are complimentary magazines and tourist leaflets to browse. I popped to the loo which was clean and well-appointed.This is a great little cafe with warm, chatty, prompt service - and I am still happy to rate it. Prices are reasonable and you can pay by card. There are some cleanliness issues (tables and windowsills outside could do with a thorough cleaning) but I accept being next to a busy road is difficult to manage. However, cleanliness standards inside seem fine.

The owner could not have been nicer. It was our first land stop after departing our cruise ship in Southampton on our overland way to London. Sandwiches, Baguettes, Baps & Paninis all with 11 different Fillings, Toasted Sandwiches, All-Day Breakfasts, Omelettes all made to order and Hot Drinks were just what we needed. The meals were mighty tasty and all in the 2.80-5.00 Pound range. Light lunches & burgers were also available for lunch. Only one member of staff was friendly to us and others ignored us or were outright rude. In the end we were given our food at no charge because of various issues with the meal but staff argued about this in front of us and made us feel very unwelcome. There was a power outage which was beyond their control but was handled very poorly. We ended up eating by the light of our phones! We were like many other fans of Downton Abbey taking a look at the pretty village of Bampton in Oxfordshire. And as usual when we are on the move at these venues fancy a bite to eat,or at minimum a pot of tea for two.So when we had completed our wander around the numerous filming location's in the village we came across what we thought was going to be a local oasis. On walking in we were put off eating any food by the smell of stale cooking fat,so decided on sitting alfresco and were served with tea in mugs, this came with a tea bag floating in the hot water, and obviously you may take it out when it is to your liking. We normally prefer to have tea for two in a pot,but that may just be the what we are used to on our travels, and not everyone's way of having their beverage.?Summing up,there was a fair amount of choice on the menu, but as I mentioned the smell of the interior was not very appealing.Perhaps most people visiting Bampton would prefer a local tea room instead of what looks a bit like a 1970's coffee bar.!Sorry to say lads we were a bit disappointed, and could not recommend the coffee house.

Service was fast and friendly and we were able to be 'in an out' in about 35 minutes - all for £10.50.A great little cafe - I was impressed. The ambience is busy and 'local' in feel. Three phone conversations with the hotel management eventually confirmed that a Sunday roast could be obtained in the Terrace resturant. A table for 7 was booked and confirmed. On arrival the Terrace resturant was set up for a wedding ceremony. No other dining tables were apparent. On querying this with bar staff we were abruptly told "not our problem".Eventually found a deputy manager who set about laying up a dining table amongst the wedding guests ! Meanwhile we tried other local venues but couldn't get in within our timescale. We eventually sat for our anticipated Sunday lunch in a crowded golf club bar surrounded by a multitude of wedding guests. The food was obviously recently pulled out of the freezer, looked and tasted same ! HOPELESS !!We recommend training for front of house management in the art of coordination and courtesy for members of the bar staff.

It isn’t that often I visit The Windmill, but I know the place well enough to know something is very different. There was a different aura in the air today. I didn’t recognise any of the staff members, and whilst they seemed like a large family, they were all unique and discombobulated in their own ways. I must start with some high praise - we were greeted very kindly by a lovely tall Irish lady with a beaming smile. Whilst very busy, she was also very accompanying and allowed us to buy a few of their home-made pint glasses (which she said she wasn’t supposed to do). Hats off to her for the hospitality. Sadly things took a slight turn for the worse whilst we were seated. It was only myself and my partner ordering some pub grub, however, after a brief conversation with the waiter it was quickly apparent that some kind of knowledge barrier prevented us from ordering exactly what we wanted. I have a suspicion this older gentleman was a distinguished chef from years gone by, because there wasn’t a single word I understood in his recommendations. Embarrassingly, we decided to opt for a few beers at the bar before ordering food instead. I must admit, that was a saving grace, for their homemade beer ‘Hawkstone’ was divine. The bartender was full of dry wit which added to a great atmosphere amongst the other guests. He has that familiar family friendly humour, like you wouldn’t be surprised to see him on TV! Not only was the beer exceptional in quality, the slight intoxication seemed to clear up some of the brain fog I was experiencing earlier, since the waiter suddenly seemed to made a lot more sense! So, we finally ordered our meal and enjoyed some local produce - again, simply divine. Despite the great tastes and atmosphere, I couldn’t help but feel the service was jeopardised by the initial language barrier. As such, I did ask the waiter if we could remove our service charge. I should add, this was a new waiter at the time, a dreary English chap who wasn’t impressed with our request. Whilst his thorough and detailed lecture around why a service charge holds such an important role in the overarching finance of the food industry, I tried to hold my ground and get this removed from the bill. It was only after we realised my partner had been asleep for 8 minutes that we sped things up, paid the bill with a 50/50 compromise on the service charge, and got ourselves out of there. All in all, I’d recommend the establishment because, despite some teething problems and unorthodox scenarios, the people are genuine and the food/drink is exceptional. Just keep an eye out for those tractors (given the rural area) - a young man with curly blonde hair had completely blocked my car in so we had to wait half an hour to leave!

When a business contact of mine from London told me he would be visiting Witney, of course I wanted to meet up with him. But also I wanted to impress him and show him the best that Witney ha to offer. When I booked dinner at The Three Horseshoes I was confident that my contact would have a great evening, and it was absolutely the right choice. As soon as he arrived he commented on how amazing the pub was, and how he loved the atmosphere and the log burner too. Our dinner was fantastic and even though the place was busy, the speed or service and the attentiveness of the team was brilliant. They were there when we needed them, and left us to get on with our business conversation the rest of the time. For impressing a really important contact from London - The Three Horseshoes was exactly the right choice and what is SO brilliant is that it is also the perfect choice for a quiet pint or to meet up with friends too.

Good lunch selection. Very nice salads and a good choice of panini. It’s not very clear when you go in what to do if you want to sit inside to eat as all the boards are headed up as takeaway menus. The seating area is really just there to eat the takeaway - so order what you’d like and then take it through to eat. It might be good to make this clearer for customers especially when it’s busy. Overall though the food and coffee were delicious so well worth a lunch stop.
