Balti King in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Great food and service. Staff said their chef very long experience more than 25 years he's cooking. I think we have had best curry in our life. So delicious, amazing and unforgettable. Lovely restaurant in Cornwall. We will be back soon. Would recommend anyone who loves Indian curry.

We had a excellent family dinner in Balti king indian restaurant. It was a small restaurant but really nice one for dining in. We have had all of spicy food. It was absolutely delicious faultless. Restaurant staff were very friendly and polite. This little gem highly recommended. We will be back again :)

All of my food was cold I had chicken tikka onion bhuli keema nana bread the Which was kov nana bread 2 popadun was ok pilau rice When I took it bach all they said was were was the old food not very helpful at all will not be going back there again

Ordered takeaway and was told it would be ready at 7.30pm turned up and they hadn't even started my order. Had to wait 50 mins when we did get to eat it, it was bland chicken was tough and very little of it. I have had better indian takeaways from Tesco. It never use to be like this not sure what has gone wrong! At £40 it was a complete waste of hard earned money and won't be back.

Haven’t used the Balti King for a few months as they keep getting orders wrong but this evening thought I’d give them another go. Yet again the order is wrong. Giving up now and I won’t be back. Food is good, just not what I ordered and once I’ve driven home I’m not then going back to remedy the error as it’ll add an hour to my meal time. I just think the orders overwhelm the kitchen and things just get confused. Front of house doesn’t ever stop taking orders and I think it just gets too much for the chefs. Won’t be ordering from them again.

great food , fab staff , quick speedy service and a lovely restaurant setting. 10/10 would come again. Had to bring own drinks to restaurant and takeaway service was more complex than usual but other than that a lovely & convenient spot

I’ve eaten in the restaurant a long time ago and was a bit concerned after reading the last two reviews. Glad I ordered a takeaway anyway as it was as delicious as I remember. Lots of layers of flavour and full of chicken and veg. Worth the money, order took 30 minutes and was spot on. Thank you.

Been going to Balti King since it opened years ago and haven’t been disappointed until the last time. Food was bland and I had 5 small pieces of chicken in a dish priced at almost £11. Others were also not happy with they food which appears to have changed dramatically in last few weeks. If they have a new chef they need to replace him. Restaurant was almost empty this time which is unusual. Maybe others have had similar bad experience?

We had a takeaway, order was taken incorrectly and had not been started when I arrived. Had to wait over 45 minutes for meal to be cooked! Food tasted bland and had no flavour! This is the second time this has happened! Not going to have another take away from here!

We were pleased to visit - good service and good food. It was a bit quiet on both our first and second visit - the good news is that everything comes quickly, the bad news is that there can be a lack of atmosphere. But we'll certainly go again and perhaps try one of their special Monday evenings.

We ordered a few dishes to takeaway and it was absolutely delicious. Their biryani is tasty, their bombay aloo, the banana kashmir chicken .... heavenly. We've been before and we'll go again.

We have had a take away, eaten in and also enjoyed the brilliant buffet dinner on a Monday night. Every single time the food has been outstanding and we have raved about it all the way home- We actually travel over from Launceston to enjoy this curry house, as we feel it is one of the best around! The staff are brilliant, very attentive and always go above and beyond. Thank you all!

Booked a table for date night with my husband on banquet night and it was amazing. Love that we can bring our own booze as means cheaper and the food was of excellent quality. We tried something different and was very happy with the results. Popadoms, starters, mains and nans all for less than £30 for two. You could even get rice as well for that price but we knew we wouldn’t be able to manage it so saved the waste! Brilliant curry house, very friendly and helpful staff with bottle opener and glasses provided and smiles all round. Topped off with an after eight with the bill.

Did not book a table but there was room for us, whilst the food was very nice and good value, I have never been to a restaurant that does not serve alcohol, obviously they don’t have a license. I don’t come from this area so was very surprised to find that, only soft drinks, can take your own but that is not what I would want to do. I suggest they get a license.

We always get a takeaway but tonight decided to dine in. We were not disappointed,really good curry and all accompaniments,bonus also was taking our own bottle of wine. Really polite service.would highly recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed Balti King's food, 7 of us having all different meals and all were hot and tasty. The banquet deal for £13.50 is a bargain, poppadoms, starter, curry , rice and a naan bread!

We have had several meals from here and they are so good. The portion size is huge always enough for next day as well. Always found the guys polite and welcoming.cannot wait to go again!😃

Booked for an evening meal for four on a Tuesday evening. We were the only people in there so not overly atmospheric. They do not have a liquor licence but you can bring your own with no corkage. Service was very lacking and my napkin...

Bediening was redelijk snel, maar niet erg vriendelijk. Kregen niet de drankjes die we besteld hadden, werd wel snel omgewisseld. Saus bij het eten was melig. Verder kleeft echt alles, stoelen, tafelblad, menukaart etc. Ga er niet meer terug.

Ate here with my wife and 2 teenage daughters. The waiter couldn’t be understood, the service was the worst I’ve ever experienced but the food was good.Also they don’t have a liquor license so flat soft drinks only which were served that slowly that we had eaten both the popadoms and our starters. Be prepared for a long wAit

Spent a week in Cornwall for our summer holidays and decided to visit the local Indian restaurant. The food at the Balti King was excellent, in fact so much so that my husband and I and both our kids (ages 12 & 14) all decided to go back a second time!

A great selection of food.Everything cooked fresh to order. Excellent friendly service. Really enjoy this restaurant. A credit to callington.

Had a takeaway from Balti King (very good) in July 2017 whilst on holiday in Golberdon, near Callington. Returned there in May 2019 and pleased to say the takeaway was excellent again, would recommend.

We had a superb meal here and we eat a lot of Indian food. Very good value even though portion looked small they are not.

A true lesson in never judging a book by its cover. You could easily walk past this restaurant and not think much of it, just another Indian Restaurant in a sleepy town. However we have frequented this place twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed the food on both occasions. Yes it is a bring your own alcohol affair, but that's ok because I can bring exactly what I want. I recommend trying the chef's specials as they are very tasty, full of flavour, not greasy at all and the portion size is more than enough to make sure you leave full. The staff are polite and attentive. We will be making this place a regular night out for us and definitely recommend.

Had a take away 24-8-18 to be honest was not expecting ro much from it but wow. The food was superb. My king prawn Jalfrazi was perfect. Lots of taste the right number of chillis to give it a kick and all served with light fluffy egg rice. I know the others in my group enjoyed their meal and its up to them to write about it. However based on my experience i would certainly recommend the restaurant. Portions were on the large side , in fact i returned to Birmingham with the remains and have just enjoyed it for my "tiffin". Give it ago its well worth it.

Popped here for an Indian takeaway and was surprised to find that for £11.50 they offered a main rice naan and poppadoms ...it wasn't a limited choice either. The food was great and at that price was well worth it !

Monday night's Indian Banquet is great value and food was superb! Bring your own drinks is an extra bonus. Would definitely recommend.

A group of us were staying in the area and ordered a takeaway. All arrived on time, food was hot and good

We ordered a take away for 4 people on Saturday, we were told there was a 30 minute wait which was okay, but an hour and a half later still no sign of our food. There was a family of 6 in the restaurant waiting for their bill for over half an hour, and getting fuming as they had a small child with them. People were coming in for take away to be told it would be 30 minute wait, i think they meant more like 2 hours. When we eventually got our meal we struggled to find the meat in all the juice, really not worth waiting for. Very disappointed as it is the closest Indian to where we live. It really would have been quicker to travel to India for our meal and it would probably have been hot as well. Have a Chinese instead.

I eat here regularly, always very clean and I've had a variety of food and it is always tasty.

Every time we have been here weather as a couple or friends we are so disappointed.

We went to this restaurant several times over a three week period when we were staying quite nearby and would definitely go back there again. The food was really tasty and full of flavour. The restaurant and the toilets were very clean and the music played was good.

We have just dined with friends at the Balti King in Callington again, it was as good as ever and visiting on banquet evening made the price outstanding value. The food was excellent, so was the service. Can't wait to go again!

We were staying at Gollberdon, near Callington. Had a takeaway from Balti King on 11th July, would recommend you visit. Excellent food!

Pleasant evening spent with family, food good enough, service ok but no conversation or asking if we wanted anything else e.g. Coffee after the main meal. No hot trays so your food got cold before you got to the end of the dishes. Took our own drinks as no license for alcohol.

Lovely to be able to meet up with family, and returned here as food was great last visit.food was good again this time, but things like food warmers on table last time and not this time was noticed, as was the none appearance of the hot cloths at the end of the meal, had to ask also this time for more drinks and replacement cutlery, Not a bad experience but will the owner please return to the old standards of our last visit, as those touches make the average night into a great night.

Nice little Indian restaurant, can get very busy at the weekends as it is building a good reputation, they also do take always as well. There is no licensed bar so you can take your own spirit refreshments. There is also no corkage charges either. Very good

Monday night banquet is excellent value for money. We have it as a takeaway and it is always "on time" for collection and very enjoyable. Mint dip is very green (but very tasty) so hoping the colouring is natural. Cannot wait until next Monday.

Not long moved to the area locals told me it reliable . Found menu on their web site looked varied menu so ordered .Very helpful explained a couple of queries .order was for four adults inc one vegie excellent meal allround infact four clean plates at the end

sometimes its excellent sometimes it isn't!! consistency isn't there I have had a fantastic curry at times and a very average to mediocre one on others despite having ordered the same dish

We have ordered from the takeaway menu on a few occasions now and have not been disappointed. Average prices and great tasting food. Staff are friendly and food has always been ready within the stated timeframe. There is also a restaurant which we have yet to try, but will do in the near future.

Always a friendly welcome from Anwar and his staff. Good quality food but no alcohol available on site but you are welcome to bring your own. Hot and spicy chicken is one of the best starters I've had in an Indian restaurant.

Let's get the negative parts out of the way first! Two and a half hours for two courses is too long, with just one other table for the first hour and then just us. Luckily, we were happily chatting and didn't really notice the time until it was time to go. The takeaways were going out, and maybe they took priority.The restaurant lacks atmosphere and feels like being in a back room - which it is!But we went there to eat! The food was superb. We use various Plymouth "indian" restaurants several times a year, but this one beat them all. Our party of seven all enjoyed everything. One of our party has a serious food allergy, which was carefully handled and I haven't seen her eat so well and so varied in a restaurant for years.Overall, a very pleasing experience, and we'll go there again.BTW: It's BYOB!

We have just visited the Balti King in Callington with friends and have to say that the banquet night offers excellent value for money.We all chose starter and main courses and all went for something different. The food is nicely cooked and well presented and smelt delicious!You are allowed to take your own wine which is great as wine can be overpriced in some restaurants.We all enjoyed our evening at the Balti King and it will not be long before our return.

Bloody fantastic.... really worth a visit, it wasn't too busy so who knows if it's super busy they may struggle but what I took home was a bit of love in a bag. Fantastic cooking, every part of this take away was perfect! I'm a chef myself so it was obvious to me the care and attention given to this meal... Bravo Balti Overlord and thank you.

Had a take-away from the Balti King recently. It was cooked really well AND without gee. It tasted really good. Will return!

We ate here on a Sunday evening. Restaurant was quiet but they seemed to be doing a steady takeaway trade. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. We would go again.

I was a little unsure about getting our takeaway from here as it was a bit low on the ratings. Also, the prices were at the top end of what I'm used to paying. On the other hand it was by far the nearest option for where we were staying.It turned out to be an excellent choice however as my wife, two children and I all really enjoyed our meal - not a scrap was left even though the portions were good.We got 10% discount for paying cash when collecting and a couple of free poppadoms and onion relish. I would definitely recommend this place for a takeaway.

Good place for a takeaway. They even offer 10% off if you pay cash - which is good! You don't always get very much, but the food is good! Quite expensive though I think!

We regularly get takeaway from Balti King, always very good and served at the specified time. Chana Masala side dish is always delicious as are the Chicken Malaya and Lamb Tikka Masala. Would recommend to anyone.

we stopped off at Balti King whilst travelling and it was brilliant, curries of every kind, plenty of vegetarian choice, the place was clean and looked inviting, friendly staff and we took the food to eat out, they gave us forks and knives and it was lovely Indian food. Thoroughly recommend.

The Balti King is one of our local curry houses. It has recently changed staff. The decor is modern. Service was a bit variable (hence dropping marks) but the food was great. No alcohol served but bring you own is possible. Easy to get a table without booking and very reasonable price.

We visited this restaurant last weekend, food was excellent freshly cooked by chef with perfection. Everything we ordered was so tasty. Restaurant staff were so nice and polite. Would happily recommend this Balti king indian restaurant:)

I expect this is the best tandoori for many miles and the food lived up to expectations...eventually. Takeaway and a nearly full restaurant meant it took longer to get our food but it was worth waiting for. Reasonable value too but no drinks licence so bring your own booze!

Having read previous reviews, we did wonder whether or not to order our take away from here, but we did and it was delicious! All 12 of us thoroughly enjoyed our various dishes, the portion sizes were generous, it was ready at the agreed time (and still hot once we got it back to our holiday lodges), and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Me my husband and our 1 year old daughter decided to visit this restaurant after a 5 1/2 hour drive. As you can appreciate we wasn't best dressed for a restaurant meal and my little one was eating a sausage roll as we walked in to book a table for 2. The waiter just stared at my child with pastry all down her in the pram and said... 'we have a large party in half an hour, so there isn't a table but you can have a takeaway".Baring in mind there wasn't a soul in the building apart from us.We ordered a rezella curry which was very nice, chicken pakora was all right, keema nan was awfully doughy and the mixed starter wasn't anything to write home about. After eating our meal in the car and waiting 25 mins for our takeaway we never did see this huge party come to the restaurant and over crowd the place. The place is a small restaurant that is warmly decorated and as an authentic ambiance. Its just a shame we never got to experience this as what felt like we wasn't good enough to eat in this establishment. The food was all right but far from 5 star

The place seemed clean and well kept when we entered but that is a far reflection of the food that they served. The coffee they brought had stale milk which floated on the coffee. Despite asking that to be changed, they brought another really old milk which they did not charge for.They recommended briyani and when they brought it, the chicken was rubbery and the prawn had a bad smell. We could not even finish the food as the smell was so bad. When confronting them, the waiter said he was allergic to prawns and could not check to see if they were fine or not. The refunded the money for the briyani.It was a very poor food experience that made a few in out group a little unwell.I would definitely not recommend this to anyone at all.

My friend warned me- Never eat Indian in a restaurant where there are no other Indians eating. Learnt my lesson.I am the one who only gives a review to recommend a good restaurant. However, the quality of food in this restaurant were so below standards that I thought I could spare your stomachs the trouble by sharing my experience. With a 'trip advisor recommended' sticker on their glass doors, we walked right in. Surely if we (5 friends) are the only one dining in the restaurant I would expect a good if not exceptional service. We all craved for a biryani and after the waiter's recommendation ordered the King's special biryani (included chicken, lamb and prawns with an omelette on top). One of the friends also ordered a coffee.The first time the cream split on adding to coffee. On requesting to change, he got another cream and coffee and it split again. I have never seen cream 'break up' twice with coffee in front of us so violently. Surely the waiter didn't change the cream or the whole batch was spoilt.Coming back to the King's special, the chicken was so hard, the lamb was rubbery, and the prawns reeked of some sort of chemical. On saying that the prawns are off, the waiter was more defensive that they are from today, however, he will discount us for them. If you open a bag of 5 year old frozen prawns today, doesn't make it fresh. The bill came and he had only deducted one biryani's cost from the bill, which he seemed like he did us a favour. Didn't argue much as we were all tired and this was the last thing we wanted in our experience to beautiful Cornwall. I would have paid for it anyway. That biryani made my friends sick.I am just surprised that how does the chef not realised that the food is so below standard (not fit for human consumption) before serving it to his guest. Does he not taste his own creation.So disappointed.

We hadn't planned to eat here - our visit simply came about when we couldn't get into the nearby Chinese restaurant! However, we were far from disappointed. The service was respectful, the food was flavoursome and hot (temperature) but couldn’t be considered outstanding. The ambience in the restaurant was very pleasant, and they seemed to do a good trade in take-aways too. All in all a good experience, but, if deliberately heading out to an Indian restaurant we'd probably still go to the Spice Room in Launceston.

Ordered 2 mains, rice, naan and popadoms between 2 of us. Also had a mixed starter.Good really nicely prepared and the peshwari naan was really great.Portions nicely sized. Not swimming in ghee.Really nice bottle of red wine also.Good value.

if your looking for an indian takeaway then the Balti King is worth a vist. Food is fresh hot and tasty. Great services with friendly staff. Cheaper if you pay by cash rather than card. Used this take away maybe 5 or 6 times in the last year. I believe you can eat in altho i've never tried this only takeaway opition.

Not visited this restaurant for a long time, the food was always just OK. Now it's fantastic I don't know what they have done but it was really tasty and very well spliced, will be back very soon.

I always eat here when I visit Plymouth on business and I only wish they were closer to home for me. I eat in a LOT of Indian Restaurants and this little, unassuming place is honestly one of the best I've ever tried!If (like me) you love typical Indian restaurant dishes in England, you're going to love it, just don't expect any fancy 'fusion' food, or authentic South Indian dosas, etc.Everything is fresh and delicious, and their specials are superb. The Rajeswari is my favourite and the Cox's Bazaar Prawn is to die for.Staff are very friendly and they will tailor the spice level to your taste if you ask. What's not to like? I simply can't understand the negative reviews, though I admit I've not eaten here on a weekend. However, unless they have a different chef at weekends and keep the best one for weekdays, I can't see it suddenly being awful?!Personally, I give it my highest recommendation, and I'm very fussy about my Indian food!!!

Well, we walked in, and the dining part was in darkness - but the owner explained that this was because it is out of season and people only order takeaways, but he welcomed us through and invited us to sit down. He was incredibly polite. Overall, the food was really really good, I enjoyed it a lot. So did my partner. We would definitely return!!!

I have to say I agree with the post below cold food and the Nan bread is like cardboard.I have also been over charged.It tastes different every time I order the same thing. It was once in my personal opinion a great take away but is slowly going down hill.

Stayed in Liskeard for a week on our holibobs & got a takeaway twice from here as it was so yummy, was worth driving to collect it. The only negative was the onion bjaji weren't great, a bit dry, everything else was super scrummy!

We had a large order takeaway and every dish without exception was delicious. The portions were generous and it was piping hot.
