Anglo Asia in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Went here and reviewed last year, I was in the area again so thought I would give it another go. Went on a Sunday evening so the place was fairly quiet. These premises are unusual in that they have an alcohol license but you can bring your own alcohol and they dont apply a corkage charge. As per last year no restaurant price board displayed in the window, there is a window box with leaflets but these are the takeaway prices so make sure you understand what you are meant to be paying. Started with a popadom, like lot of places they are now charging per dip in the chutney tray which means with two popadoms and four chutney tray dips you are going to pay over £5. A bit dear I feel so I just chose one dip ( mango chutney). Main course was a chicken shashlick which came out on a hot sizzler and was very good. With this I had a sag bhaji and a garlic naan. Plenty for me so I suggest you skip a starter unless you are very very hungry ! Bill came to £23 but then the bill states " Discretionary Gratuity 10% " making it up to £25. No mention of this service charge in the window or on the menu ( so like my visit last year ). I suppose most people are too embarased to query this new charge and just pay but I would say again to make sure you understand what it is you are meant to be paying for. Premises looks smart inside. You have to go up a steep staircase to the first floor to get to the toilets so this may not be too good for those with mobility issues. The public toilets in Helston are some way down the main street and close early so this may be a consideration for you if you cant manage the restaurants toilets. I still recommend this place but watch your prices. On the other hand you dont have to pay their fancy alcohol prices and they dont charge a corkage charge on the bottle that you bring in yourself.

Genuinely the best indian meal ive EVER HAD. Ever. It was so good i got emotional... Well maybe the spice got to my eyes a bit, maybe it didnt. Service was warm and friendly and the ambience of the mini restaurant area was beautiful. Huge portions too

Price to nice ratio was very off. Not a lot of nice for a whole lot of price. If you like a like of oily turmeric sodden food, then this is the place for you.

Food was nice, very small restaurant.. when then bill arrived however, we noticed a 10% tip had been added onto our bill. I always tip when receiving good service, however I feel this should be down to customer discretion not automatically added on to the bill.

Chicken was very undercooked and cold, We was brought something else out instead that was also pink inside I then asked someone on a table next to me to confirm this and she agreed so I then complained again and the food was taken away very fast before I could get a photo. AVOID

EXCEPTIONAL service and FANTASTIC food. The staff is amazing and extremely friendly. The restaurant is very clean and inviting. It was so easy to park. The food was delicious. The prices are more than fair. We aren't from this area and have been restaurant hopping and this was by far the best experience we've had. I highly recommend it. Next time we're around, we'll definitely be back!

This is my go-to Indian restaurant when visiting Helston. The food is always great as is the service.

As a local the food is always delicious, however tonight, well so disappointed, I usually order the same as is always great, tonight there was no flavour, the chicken was dry, always keen to recommend The Anglo Asia. But after tonight I will not be recommending, or visiting for a long time

We just spent a long weekend I'm Cornwall and on our 1st evening we ate here with the children. It was very nice and tasty. The children really enjoyed the chicken tikka and naan. The restaurant was bright and clean. We found parking easily. I recommend the chicken jalfrezi and biriyani.

Went here while on holiday camping. Went on the off chance as never been. Food and service was fantastic. Very quick and food was lovely. Just be careful for the service charge. Otherwise very good.

Based on the better reviews I thought I’d give it a go and wasn’t disappointed. Mixed tandoori starter, Monsoori tikka lamb: all delicious. Great service too. Well recommended. I might even go back tomorrow!

Popped into this restaurant whilst down for the school holidays. Good service but food was average at best. Many of the items ordered equired seasoning as were quite tasteless and some curries were unnecessarily oily. I was surprisingly dissapointed with the onion Bhaji, which just fell apart before I even cut into it. Plenty of pottential to be a top quality restaurant with a few tweaks and effort.

The food was the best Indian I have eaten. It was professionally presented with pride. The flavour was amazing. The service was attentive and we enjoyed the experience very much.

The food was good however the delivery was very late.

Picked up a takeaway last night as heard there was a new chef and must say it was amazing. Had the special passanda and quite possibly the best curry I’ve ever had. Well worth the price when everything tastes freshly made. Will have to be a weekly treat for me now!

The tikka masala sauce was full of flavour nice Creamy yum (I didn't try the chicken although sure it was good). The king prawn dhansak was also packed full of flavour and the king prawns were cooked to perfection. Highly reccommended and staff were friendly too.

Our first visit and will definitely return. Friendly, efficient, and polite staff and a wide ranging menu. The food was well presented, piping hot, of excellent quality, and delicious. Portion size was vey good. We each had a different main course : Tawa Chicken, Lamb Korai, Lamb Balti , each had individually seasoned flavours. Naan breads were light and fluffy, the meat one was especially tasty. We did not realise Anglo Asia were licensed for alcohol so took our own but they did not charge corkage, a welcome change from practise in many establishments. Overall a very successful evening. The restaurant downstairs was very well maintained and we had a comfortable seating area. All staff were very attentive and the chef himself came out to check we were happy with our food. We recommend Anglo Asia to any lovers of good quality Indian cuisine.

A lovely meal with excellent service from Abdul. The option of bringing your own alcohol was a real plus. We look forward to returning.

Few months since my last visit, excellent food as always as service always good. The gentleman waiter had to deal with a very rude customer who was totally out of order, handled it very well.

Netball night out. We had lots of dishes to share each one different flavours and everything very tasty. The king prawns were delicious!

We very much enjoyed this restaurant. The food was good, and the staff were friendly and caring. Since I like spicy food, I ordered something (don't remember now) that they were worried about my tolerating, and someone came from the kitchen to make sure I knew what I was getting into. I said "Lay it on me!" and yes, it was nicely spicy, and I enjoyed it. We would definitely eat here again!

Although we had a phone call to say they were running a little late the food arrived over an hour and half late and then was missing one of the meals.

One of the best Indian meals I’ve tasted, be sure to visit if in Helston. The CTM was Devine!, topped of with a cold Cobra. With great onion bhaji starters. Helpful friendly staff made it great visit.

This place is gorgeous for take away,nit eaten in there yet but if food is as good as take away then definitely recommend

Absolutely awful. Our table was booked for 6pm and by 7:30pm despite having ordered our food within 20 minutes of arrival there was still no sign of our food. The 2 other parties in the restaurant who were there before us, had not been served food either. Also, the lady who took the order was multitasking and also delivering takeaway???? Couldn't score them a 0 as much as I would like to and can't possibly comment on the food as our party of 7 didn't get any!!!!. Fortunately, Frasers fish and chip shop was still open and served us within 5 minutes, which was enjoyed by the whole family especially those visiting from the ACTUAL home of the Balti. Birmingham.

We live locally and as it was our grandaughters birthday, she chose to have a meal here. We've eaten many times before in the restaurant and had take away, the food has always been good. However it was very busy and the tables were crammed. We ordered as four of us and food couldn't fit properly on the table. We all decided to have starters and all of us had a Jaflong Tawa, the lamb was very fatty, hardly any meat, all peppers, sauce and onions. No dessert menu and quite expensive. We all felt rushed, but the waiter was polite and friendly. Sadly we won't be returning.

The lamb was really poor in the lamb passander, too grissly, couldn't eat it and we were charged for a pint of latger AND a pint of lemonade in a pint of lager shandy so that lager shandy was just shy of £10. We definitely won't be going back.

Arrived 30 mins early. Had to put the food in the oven to keep warms so the breads went soggy. I won’t order again

I had the lamb Naga Blast, mushroom rice, saag paneer and garlic naan. The rice, saag paneer and the garlic naan were tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed them. The curry was very tasty and I enjoyed the flavours. However, on the menu it says the naga blast (made with the hottest chillies in the world - which is an incorrect statement) was not spicy. I was expecting a curry that would blow my mind away but I barely broke a sweat. The lamb that was used didn’t taste like a very nice cut of lamb which is why I went for the three stars instead of four or five as it lowered the quality of the dish. I would have liked to have seen some veg in the curry rather than just the meat as I feel it would have added to the dish and complimented the flavours. All being said, I did enjoy it and the customer service was great when I went to collect.

Went here on the 7/10 and I visited here last year at about the same time. Same as last year, no restaurant menu outside ( which there should be ) just a price list for takeaways which are not the same as the sit down restaurant prices. When you get the bill at the bottom is " Discretionary Gratuity 10% " which is not mentioned in the menu you are given and of course it should be. I had a chicken shashlick as a main, came out on a hot sizzler dish and very good plus a sag paneer at £5.19. bit pricey for what it was but thats the way of things now. Place is clean and tidy and toilets are upstairs. Fairly steep stairs so be careful if you have mobility issues. Rather unusually this place has a drinks license but you can BYO so this does help to keep prices down. So an OK meal but watch the hidden charges !

Always go to restaurants with an open mind. We had four different dishes between us. Each one was very good. Staff were very friendly. Really enjoyed the evening. We will be eating here again.

We had a takeaway from here and had mixed feelings before hand reading previous comments My wife had chicken korma and said it was good Nan was small chips ex large rice not that big I had chicken jalfrezi which was mild to medium at best so for me poor as it’s supposed to be hot and spicy

Managed to get a table for a walk in no problems, greeted by friendly staff. Food was great! Nice clean restaurant and very accommodating with a young child. All in all a very nice experience

Food great. Very high on turmeric tho- staining terrible. Cashier/owner tighter than a duck. Our bill came to £55.01… gave £55.00- insisted on the 1p - so adamant. It was appalling. He’s now lost my business. Hadn’t got another note for him to change. I found a 2p and advised to keep the change.

The food is quite bland and doesn't suit those of South Indian background, no spice and no salt. Customer service was excellent but wouldn't recommend this place and it was very pricey.

We are on holiday in Helston and decided to find a good curry. We picked Anglo Asia and we're not disappointed. We were met by the owner and shown to our table. We had poppadoms and pickle tray My wife had Onion Bhaji and I had Tandoori mix for starters We had Chicken Khari a Lamb Balti and Onion rice Bombay Aloo and a Garlic nann All served hot and a very good blend of spice. Will definitely recommend and will be back next year

Although delivery was early out of the 2 poppadoms I ordered one was burnt - inedible. Plus I ordered & paid for 2 mint dips but received only 1. Not really impressed

We had a takeaway from Anglo Asia whilst on holiday in Porthleven and it was delicious. Portion sizes were huge and the curry’s were very tasty. We tried the chicken tikka masala, chicken bhuna and keema naan and everything was fab - can’t complain and...

Excellent food: thick sauces with peppers, onion, tomato etc, not the oh so common thin gravy. Would recommend and use again but back up country at the weekend. Service was prompt and within the stated delivery time. Only issue is why not take credit cards...
