Now Jaflong run by the owner Ivey and his team, every dish is freshly prepared and each dish prepared carefully and worth the wait. Light as air naan breads, melt in the mouth mutton. Unbelievable value for money too and byob. Great weekday offers including " Staff curry night" for £9.95 and 5 courses for £10.

We waited an hour to get a table, we we’re not made aware we had to bring our own alcohol which was inconvenient. Our table wasn’t set for enough people, we waited 90 minutes for our food which was tasteless and watery. Everyone’s chicken was rubbery and nothing had any flavour! There were not enough staff to manage the amount of customers and customer service was atrocious. The toilet facilities were diabolical, 2 toilets both stating for men and right next to the kitchen!! Definitely not worth the final cost of 103 pounds!! Would never recommend this to anyone and will definitely not be going back in a hurry.

Best Indian in Ripon!!! We visited on a cold wet British December night but once we entered this superb little restaurant it was like we had taken a trip to India, a delightfull scent of the beautiful food struck my nostrils ,a sharp, sweet and spicy smell, we were then greeted by a waiter;friendly and sharply dressed, he led us to our table where he revealed 3 menus ,the options where limitless; mountains of exotic and exciting dishes. Eventually we made our decision,it was hard but we did it.wile we were waiting for our mains we were not only ecompanyed by our divine starters but the thrilling rhythm of the music which echoed around the room; enhancing the enjoyment of the evening .service was moderate but the second our dishes hit the table, like gannets ,we scoffed it down savouring every bite ,once our plates were clean ,we re-entered the real world only to be engulfed by the conversation in which all the customers had joined in. as they took part in a similar phenomenon. What a night!

We had read about the restaurant and their Sunday special meal deal and decided to try it, We were not disappointed as the extensive menu has some great and unusual dishes. We had poppadoms, choice of starters, main courses with rice or chips/naan all for a tenner a head. Food was excellent and portions decent sized portions, all arrived hot. They don't sell alcohol so we took our own drinks which was great but the place looks a bit odd without a bar. The only waiter on duty worked hard trying to look after all the tables and was very pleasant and looked after us very well.

One person serving. A customer helping to serve in order to "move things on". People collecting pre ordered takeaways but no one gave us a menu for 15 minutes until another customer gave us his. It's a dry restaurant but you can buy soft drinks. Not tonight. Only tap water available. Customers were leaving meals and walking out. When the food arrived there were no food warmers on our table, but there were on others. The bill bore no resemblance to what we'd ordered. Awful experience.

We visited on a Sunday night and had the £9.95 meal deal (if dining in restaurant). Starters were tasty. For mains we chose the chicken tikka shampan (topped with melted cheese). This was very moorish indeed. The gosht pakwan was also lovely and the flavours and tenderness of the lamb were good. This was accompanied by special rice and a nice garlic nan. We thought the meal was a bargain and we're glad we stumbled across this restaurant. Not licenced but you can take your own drinks. All in all a nice find.

I arrived before 6pm on a Monday night and wasn't too worried when the restaurant was empty. The room was cold, the lighting was poor and, despite being the only person there, the service wasn't very attentive. The menu was a very cheap-looking double sided A4 laminate and it didn't feel particularly clean. The seekh kebab starter was a bargain at only £2.95. It was a large portion but the meat was very chewy, barely warm and didn't have much flavour. Because it was so quiet in the restaurant I could hear a microwave being set and pinging a couple of minutes later in the kitchen - my main course was being prepared! The garlic naan tasted great but it was far too thick and doughy. The longer it stood, the stodgier it got, and I didn't eat much of it. The onion pilau was nice. There was lots of chicken tikka in the Pakwan, and the sauce was wonderful, packed full of flavour and very spicy. The meat, however, was quite chewy. Oddly, the waiter was chatty towards the end of the meal and it would have been a much better experience if he had been like this throughout. The bill was a very reasonable £16.05, but be careful - they only accept cash, no cards, and this isn't mentioned anywhere in the restaurant. I left at about 7.10pm and the restaurant was still empty, nobody else had been in, whereas the Italian over the road was much busier. The clues are there! All in all not a great experience and I won't be returning.

We came here on Friday night after a few drinks around Ripon. We Hadn't booked a table but got a table for two no problem. This is a bring your own alcohol curry house. The food was very good and tasty. The service was a bit slow but it was quite busy, and they did serve you in order of when you ordered your food. We were in no rush and just took our time drinking our wine. We had a day at the races on Saturday and came back with my nephew and his wife, again we managed to get a table and the food was just as good as the night before. Decided on a curry after a day at Lightwater Valley, also recommended by our accommodation. The restaurant is more like someone's front room, spotlessly clean. There were x2 tables to be served before us, so didn't expect much of a wait, waiter took our order, poppadoms were served really quickly and the sauces were amazing, an hour later we were still sitting waiting for our main course - as was the rest of the restaurant, while takeaway people came and went to collect there orders. We were seriously thinking about leaving as our food arrived, and thankfully we sat it out as the food was fantastic. The garlic naan bread was the best I have ever eaten. They do not have a license so if you want alcohol you need to bring your own, but they clear the empties away. They also don't have a card machine so make sure you take cash, and don't go starving!! As you could be in for a long wait, but well worth it.

Food Average at best, although generally the Indian restaurants in Ripon are pretty poor. The guy in charge here has a reputation for being rude, and he lived up to it. if you are reading this "Head waiter/boss" have you thought of getting a job you actually like, speaking to people as if they were groups of school children..I won't be back. Opening hours start @ 5.30 p.m. We were there at 5.30 and the staff had opened the premises, showed us to a table explaining that they had only just opened. The waiter explained that to the next two couples to arrive as well. I would expect that the staff would be there before 5.30 to prepare to serve guests immediately, not make excuses.I gave my order as soon as I sat down as I had read the menu on line but the waiter was not ready for it! At 5.40 our drinks order for one Diet Coke and one apple & mango drink were placed and also our food order. 5.45p.m.....6.00 p.m....6.13 p.m....and finally food arrives in metal bowls and are placed on the cold 'food heater'. Clearly, they do not know that metal is a good conductor of heat so the warm bowls heated the warmer !!! The cold food warmer would be taking heat from the bowls even though the candle had just been lit....it is simple physics that we learnt at school! Please get your plate warmer WARM so that they do their job.My Kashmiri rice did not have any pineapple in it which I am used to having elsewhere and the coconut flavour was only just detectable. At 6.15 I called the waiter and asked if there was any chance of having our drinks that evening! Sarcastic..I'm sorry but the whole event by this time was very dis-appointing and I was dis-appointed with myself ,too as I could not leave a tip for this lack of service. No, I'm not a "Grumpy Old "... _ _ _ _.." but just someone, who, when he goes out to enjoy a meal, hopes that it will be just that.

Then had a bit of a wait for my main as it started to get a bit busy. With obviously only one waiter he did his best. My main was Lamb balti, which was a little tough, but ok. Ripon has the good fortune to have avoided the attentions of the chain restaurants that clog up most high streets (OK, Prezzo has snuck in, but the service is so bad none of the other restaurants need worry too much). There are three curry houses and the Balti House on Kirkgate is possibly the least attractive, but it's by far the best. It's tiny, probably 26 covers, but plenty of staff ensure you're not kept waiting. It has the huge bonus that it's not licensed - take your own wine or beer. And then there's the food - Nawabi Chicken and Balti Chicken for us. Both excellent, with tasty nan. The mushroom rice was a bit tight on quantity, but everything else was generous. It's a little beauty - give it a go.

Having tried all the Indian restaurants in Ripon on numerous occasions over the course of a year, it is safe to say that the food is best at the Balti House. The food is cooked to order, so be prepared to wait. Downside for us is that it isn't licensed, but this is an upside for a lot of people as you may take your own alcohol and they will provide glasses to drink it from. Also makes the bill a lot cheaper. I have not found the service to be bad like other reviewers, but I am happy to wait for good quality Indian food. If hungry, I often get some poppadums and a starter. This is the only place I would eat Indian food in Ripon.

Been eating here for 15 years and always great food and service in a cosy venue. Top notch and a hidden gem of a resturant.

This is a great place to enjoy Asian cooking. Made more enjoyable because it is not licensed however feel free take your own wine, beer etc with you so this reduces the final bill significantly. The only let down is the time it takes to get your food at busy times. always advisable to book.

Have had many takeaways from here, but had a family meal on a Wednesday night. Had a text before the meal of offers and prices and it wasn't too much trouble when we arrived and some people wanted set price and others wanted different. Food was to the excellent standard and service was very good. Sad to read reviews about service as I have always been treated professionally. Love the fact that their special dishes are not like any that you get anywhere locally .

The waiter had no manners and was very abrupt. We did not feel welcome at all. We had our starters and asked for the bill because his attitude towards us was appalling and he blamed it on him being busy. There was 1 other table in the restaurant and he had a few takeaways. This was very disappointing and no excuse for shocking service.

The waiter's choice of words for lack of good service was not at all appropriate. You can definitely go here for cheap food but be ready for a disappointing service. I would rather recommend Desi Spice which is nearby and has a lot better food as well as service. But obviously this comes at a slightly higher price. And i would still recommend it.

A family of five - all with different tastes went for a last minute evening meal - the eldest two had been here before and recommended. We were not disappointed! We are seasoned travellers and this was one of the most delicious curry meals we have had. All fresh herbs and spices - every sauce cooked to a different style and taste. Large portions and great ambiance. Will certainly be going back!

As local residents we have been going to this restaurant for ten years. Not sure if it has changed hands - a lovely Father and Son used to run it and were always there. We would go at least once a month. In the last two years the last four visits have been horrendous. Our vegetarian friend was served a meat dish, you wait a long time to be attended to, the gap between starters and main can be close to an hour. The last visit in August we walked out as the table next to us were complaining as they had to wait so long. The waiter was going to call the police. It is such a shame as this Indian was excellent once upon a time. The food is actually excellent, but who wants to wait over an hour in a very small restaurant between starters and mains? Not us.

I've heard good things about the place.I rang to ask if they delivered. I was answered by someone that must hate working there, truly hate it. From the off his telephone manner was disinterested and off and after id asked one question about delivery i was told no and hung up on.I'm off to complain in person. I'm not pretentious but that was nothing short of disgusting customer service.

We eat here normally once a week. By far the best curry house in Ripon! In fact it's hard to beat anywhere else in the country. Yes sometimes you have a wait for your food but it is always always well worth the wait. Order some poppadoms if you're hungry! The staff are always friendly and helpful. The prices have hardly gone up in the 12 years we've been eating there. Can't recommend enough :-)

Nine if us got together for a lovely meal. the night before the Tour de Yorkshire and the place was busy, so a little delay with the food coming but we were fine. The food was hot and very tasty and with bringing your own drink, not an expensive night out at all. nicely served and nice surroundings, just by the Cathedral on Kirkgate, lovely position within the city.

We were staying at the Spa hotel and ate at the Balti House one evening. There were a few tables already occupied when we arrived (it was a Thursday evening and we thought it would be quiet). Having perused the menu there appeared to be no wine list so I asked the waiter and he explained it was "bring your own" - we had*t !!. Anyway he happily told me of the short cut to Sainsburys and off I went to get the wine.It was two minutes walk via the short cut. We had two starters and two main courses with different rices - everything was good. The bill was just over twenty pounds !.The waiter was cheerful and helpful and all in all we had a great evening. The next time I am in Ripon I will certainly eat at the BaltiHouse

Having had several good meals here in the past, our last 2 visits have left us very disappointed. The starters are lovely, no complaints. But every main course we have ordered recently have come looking the same red colour and with very little meat, mainly sauce. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the sauces have all been the same. The last time, I ordered sag aloo, knowing that whenever I have had this dish in other restaurants, it has always been a browny green colour. Nope, bright red too. Weird. Very disappointing. Have no desire to return.

The poppadoms were ok I suppose but that's about it. We sat there for over an hour and a half without one of the staff coming over to ask if we were ok or to say sorry for the delay. I wouldn't usually mind waiting if a restaurant is busy but an hour and a half is ridiculous. I've heard very good things about the curries here but that's all...HEARD BUT NEVER SEEN! Very disappointed. If the owner has any sense he should take the Trip Adviser sticker off of the door

My partner and I had a takeout from here last December and it was excellent ! We thought fantastic a great find and somewhere where would/did recommend our friends and family. But last night we went again and I am not sure if they have changed the chef ? But we both were let down sadly. The lamb curries we ordered were impossible to chew to the point we coud not even eat it. It was as tough as old boots. Big shame as the last time it melted in your mouth. So that's that, we are back to making our own which I have to say never dissapoints.

I ate here with my sister while we were staying in Ripon on business. They have a large menu with lots of choice and thoughtful descriptions to get your tastebuds going. The food came out quickly and tasted amazing. The service was really great, I even saw one of the waiter donning white gloves to polish the cutlery while setting a table. I would definitely return for another meal if I was to stay in the area again.

The food here is excellent, but there is no license to sell alcohol. All is not lost however as you can bring your own booze so its a win win situation as it will probably work out cheaper than paying restaurant prices. Would suggest bringing your own combi cork screw/bottle opener as the resident one is very busy! The guys there will also chill any wine or beer for you. The only reason that I haven't given it an excellent score is because it can be very cramped and the small tables soon get overloaded with food etc.

We were recommended this restaurant by other locals, which it more than justified. The food was delicious, and service good. Poppodums were perfect; naan very tasty; the sharing platter (one with onion bahjees) was excellent; and the bahjee curries very good.Restaurant doesn't serve alcohol, but you can bring in your own drinks. We just had water; which came in large glass stoppered bottles.A very good value meal.

I regularly eat here and can’t fault the simple and relaxed ambience combined with some very good food, all of which is always accompanied by their friendly, personal service. Combined with such excellent value for money and their consistently high standards, Kinara is a tried and tested 5 Star Restaurant which is well worth an visit. 👏

The espresso martinis were the best we have both ever had and food exceeded expectations! Overall an amazing experience and we will definitely be revisiting!
