Bab Tooma in York

Excellent authentic Syrian food and reasonably priced (for central York). Had chicken shawarma and looking forward to lamb shawarma next time. Staff lovely too!

Delicious freshly cooked Syrian food. Staff were lovely. The lentil soup was incredible. The restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol, but the food more than made up for that. We loved the Middle Eastern decor too, which gave it a nice atmosphere. So delicious!

Visited as part of a Taste Trail in York Food Festival. Loved it! The samples were delicious, particularly the falafel and hummus. The staff were friendly and chatty while we waited for our freshly prepared tasters. We shall certainly return soon for a full meal.

We had such a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food was amazing, including the free lentil soup which had a beautiful aromatic flavour. The lamb kebbeh was our favourite, we would have been happy to have plate after plate of this! We didn't get to experience the desserts as we were so full, however the Arabic tea was delicious.

The food was actually lovely, however the service was pretty slow given it was lunch time and there were only 4 other tables eating. The food was has was reasonably priced & tasty. The shawarmas were delicious as were the lamb chops. However I feel like the children’s menu is over priced at £10 for nuggets & chips. Also watch out for ordering lemonades & being given mocktails at a cost of £6.50.

Tasty food, friendly staff, lots of vegan/veggie choice of the smaller dishes. We had four dishes between us and the dip came with bread. Particularly liked the musakaa. Extremely good value.

Fantastic! Food was amazing. Regularly order from Leeds branch but York was even better. Really nice and helpful staff. Be sure to take cash for tip (deserved!) as they can't take it on card.

Best food I have had in years. I would recommend this to anyone who likes lamb and rice and many more. They have foods for all religion and diets or allergies.

What a find. We stumbled upon this little beaut of a restaurant on a very busy Sat. Beautiful decor and very friendly staff. We had the eponymous ‘Bab Tooma’ Supreme Platter. Every morsel was delicious, amazing flavours and fresh ingredients. There was easily enough food for three people but we managed to polish off the lot. The restaurant is not licenced but you can bring your own with no corkage charge. We opted for a couple of their delicious fresh juices. Highly recommended. My only small gripe would be the music, if you closed your eyes you would think you were in an elevator! Some subtle Syrian music in the background would have been preferable and would add to the authentic feel.

Amazing food, amazing staff & an amazing venue. They catered for a group of 10 without a hitch. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Amazing flavours, great service. Definitely returning as a York resident.,Bring your own alcohol at no corkage. We like flavoursome food, the flavours were awesome, without spoiling the food. Service was with good humour and knowledge. I hope it does well, as I want to come back.

Amazing food, fantastic staff that really are friendly and seem to care about you. This is dream food, but super healthy too. I loved it. They even give you a complimentary bottle of water, soup and a delicious slushy drink.

We finally paid a visit here today, we live down the road and will definately be back!! The service was great & the food delicious.We ordered hummus to start and were also brought some lentil soup to try. We had vegetable and lamb fillet kebabs followed by desserts and saudi coffee. It was all very well presented and tasty, we really enjoyed it. The restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol but uou can take your own in if you want some.

I have been to bab Tooma in Bradford at their previous location more than once and the last one was during the lockdown. This is my first visit in the new place. I have been going to the branches in York and Leeds more often as I live in Hull. However, the excellent service from the staff specially Aneela is worth driving few extra miles. The food and service are perfect. My family enjoyed the meal there and we felt well looked after.

First visit to this relatively new Syrian place on Goodramgate in York, which has a lot of choice in terms of restaurants. Although it was just after 5pm, quite a few tables were already taken. The first thing that hits you as you enter is the delicious smell of meat from the kitchen, as it grills over coals. The place is not licensed, but they are happy for you to bring your own alcohol, which is not a problem as there is a Tesco Express store next door but one. We opted for the cheese rolls to start and then, as we were not really sure what to go for, had The Feast, which is a grilled mixed platter for 2 people, consisting of lamb kebab, lamb chop, lamb fillet, chicken fillet, chicken skewer all served on a bed of rice with arabic bread. Portions are plentiful and all the meat was grilled nicely and was very tasty. Service from our waitress was attentive and brisk. Overall, a very positive experience and, as we live in York, we will definitely return. If you like your meat and are looking for something slightly different from the regular options, give this place a try.
