So I first visited the Nags Head on Sunday 18th Aug and the Barmaid, Emma had served me. Amazing service and very tentative. I was visiting for 2 weeks for a training course with work and had visited a few times during my stay. Every time I was there, Emma happened to be working. She is an absolute delight to the workforce and should deserve the praise! Jamie from Edinburgh(she’ll remember me) Go EMMA! and the rest of the Nags head crew! I’ll be back before you know it :)

It is a good pub on Micklegate. Ale was well kept and a VERY sensible price. We liked the background music as well, and it was not too loud.

Lovely pub for a pint without getting ripped off. Locals seemed friendly and everyone seems to know each other. If you can get a seat you're doing well at times it's very busy and seating is limited. Would recommend.

What can I say about this little gem of a place? We were struggling to find a traditional local pub with a friendly atmosphere, then we stumbled on the nags head. From the minute we walked in, we were welcomed as part of the community. We had a fabulous time and everyone was so friendly. We ended up in here everyday of our breakaway and made lifetime friends. Tom is such a kind, friendly, happy and fabulous man. We will never forget his generosity and how welcomed he made us. One of the cheapest pubs in York. Staff are friendly enough. The pub is best visited on a warm day when you can sit outside because the in side gets too cramped at times. This Is worse on Friday to Sunday afternoons when groups of older people make it quite clicky, they don’t allow under 18s in so you won’t have to put up with kids running round. Besides the clickyness I would still say give the place a go on a warm day.

I have often popped into the Nag’s for a pint of John Smiths and always found it to be an excellent pint in a clean pub. Unfortunately on my visit earlier today, the person sat nearby was constantly vaping leaving a horrid smell. I wafted my hand and having been given dirty looks from the cap smoking person, I decided to ask the barman if it was allowed. He said it was allowed. I find it astonishing in this day and age that you are allowed to vape in a small public place. I will refrain from using the Nags going forward as there are other places to drink without being subjected to vaping. A great pity as otherwise it is a great place for a good pint.

Great staff, one of the friendliest bars in town. Great people, great prices make this place a go to when I’m in town. Great pub quiz on Tuesday night. Landlord is terrific as is the whole crew. Never had a bad time there. Fantastic beer garden. Reminds me of the best pubs from my youth in New York!

Disappointed after entering to be told that no kids allowed, to be fair probably a good thing as the locals looked like extras from the Star wars bar

Nice little boozer, Tuesday night is quiz night. Fastest finger first, answer the questions on a phone app - still pretty good. Great beer prices, under 4 quid.

Excellent English pub with freshly tapped ale. Naturally equipped with multiple television screens so that everyone can follow the sport they want.

Popped in here last night for a last drink after our staff meal out. The last time I came in here was over 10 years ago and wow what a change! Highlight of the night was all my bar staff being id'd. Makes a change for them 😀

On micklegate, great pud and cheap, which is a bonus.

Amazing local pub didn't think they had food. Everyone so friendly and extremely good prices compared with the centre of York. It was over the road from our hotel we called in every night for our last drink.

Popped In here while I was up in York working away with my brother in laws and had a pint of coors oh my god do not drink the coors people it made me Ill for 24 hours ( clean your pipelines nags head clean your pipelines

Decent food, but hey xD the atmosphere was alright, can't exactly complain it was warm but not incredibly hot, we sat inside with a view of the garden not sure it was a beer garden though the experience was pleasant

Outside of wetherspoons this is probably the cheapest place for a pint in York you won't get ripped off here. Well kept beer and good music. Mind your head on the low ceilings if your over 6ft!

Packed cheap as chips lovely place

Went in here on Thurs night ( 16th Feb ) and was really nice and quite cheap. Then 4 men entered and they were very vocal and very crude,which was a shame. Thought the very tall barman might have asked them to tone it down but he didn't. My wife works in a pub and from time to time has to deal with "loud" customers. Not a killjoy by any means but these "gentlemen" were very loud and very crude so we drank up and went elsewhere. Shame really

Love this pub, local bar, not expensive and Elliott running the bar a damn fine chap. Useful place in York to know if you prefer a bar without day-trippers and tourists.

There are some really good pubs down Micklegate and none more fine than The Nags Head Pub ,a pub I always look forward to visiting on any trip to York I take. I like the look of this pub,a long narrow room,a solid wood serving bar,pubby decor and furnishings ,tv's to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside in their beer garden,it's just a cosy locals pub . We were here on a freezing cold night,pub was warm as was the welcome from the barman,we ordered Carling lager,these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling,we just kicked back ,chilled out,warmed up while sipping our beers. My lager was nice,Carling lager is not my normal tipple,more a craft beer and real ale fan but this lager really hit the spot,so tasty,so refreshing and I must say that the price in this pub is fair,by far the cheapest pint along Micklegate . We really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on,although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to The Nags Head Pub we had a very good time. The Nags Head Pub is easy to locate along Micklegate ,a street with some fine pubs along. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday,open from midday. A lovely pub,well worth seeking out .

The Nags Head on Micklegate in York is an excellent local pub and was without doubt one of the liveliest pubs we visited while on a pub crawl around Micklegate. A proper local pub with a local clientele in an area where there are lots of pubs/bars and restaurants. Housed in a traditional building'this is one of several pubs and bars we went on a bit of a pub crawl.The pub itself has a superb interior with superb decor and furnishings and excellent seating options. Very busy when we visited which made for a lively night out in here.As we where on a bit of a pub crawl we had a few glasses of Carling brewery lagers which were served in perfect condition and where well priced considering the area we were in. This is an excellent local pub and is a very good pub to relax and unwind and have a few ale's and if you are ever in this area of York give this pub a look. Prices cheap for York, staff friendly if you are to visit I would suggest you pick a nice warm day and sit outside in the beer garden. I found inside too cramped for my liking.

The staff are friendly enough and the beer was fine. The pub has recently been renovated, but unfortunately the kitchen hasn’t opened yet because they haven’t been able to find a chef. Hopefully, they’ll get this resolved soon.

Nice pub & friendly staff . Good beer but the toilets are a disgrace & made me feel sick , I only had half a wee as I couldn't bare the smell , it's been like this for over a year . If you go here don't go to the toilet . Seats falling of in the ladies toilet & the gent's is to smelly to discribe

Small pub with great choice of drinks and friendly staff. But that is where the hospitality ends. Seems to be full of regulars who would all make brilliant extra’s in a remake of the movie deliverance. Happy to make snide comments behind your back but not man enough to face a response. Like watching a cross between the muppets and shameless, with a nice pint thrown in for good measure. Pity no chance of any of them reading this as a big more advance than Peter & Jayne Blue Book 1..

We (four of us) called at this pub on the way back to our hotel at circa 10pm. We entered via the 'beer garden' only to be met by the bar person coming towards us with drinks for some of the 15/20 people sat outside muttering behind his mask 'f***ing five past 10'. Then to suggest we go across the road where there were 2 other pubs. With this welcome we returned to our hotel and a much more friendly greeting.

Standard pub good selection of beers wines and spirits, and very cheap, if you are on a tight budget this is a must.

The beer is very cheap and the people are really friendly and fun to be around and they stick to the covid guidelines very well making you feel safe and relaxed

OK, at the risk of offending the customers which really is not my intention , they are not sophisticated socialites. That’s no bad things as they were very friendly and down to earth Which we liked. Personally we enjoyed this bar to any other in York as it has no pretences. The staff were very good and considering the COVID restrictions they did incredibly well. The staff were attentive, efficient and above anything else upbeat and cheerful. The prices were the cheapest we found in York. It you want a good relaxed pint then go here, if you want to pay more and have someone look down their nose at you there are plenty of other places in York.

We visited on our weekend away in York for our anniversary. Met some really friendly locals, the landlady was very welcoming and lovely. A nice local which quickly became our new local for the weekend.

Its just a very good basic friendly pub, we loved it. Loads of regulars, good atmosphere, cheap beer, what more do you want

Seems like a nice pub, however we were told to leave once entering as there was a child in our party... apparently they’re not allowed on the premises, although there are no signs on the door or bar.

Called in here for a couple of drinks when we were staying in York. Very busy and lively when we went, had a good atmosphere. Good friendly service and drinks.

Caminamos por este pub el viernes por la noche, a mi esposa no le gustó su aspecto, dijo que parecía un poco duro. Llamamos el sábado por la tarde y por la noche para tomar una copa, en ambas ocasiones estaba lleno, pero logramos que nos sirvieran con bastante rapidez. Una pinta de Coors y un Pinot Grigio grande eran solo 6. Había una fiesta de gallinas allí todo el día, así que era bastante ruidoso. Volveríamos a llamar aquí nuevamente si estuviéramos en youk.

El portero fue amable y rechazó mi oferta de una bebida.Tenía dos, tal vez 3 John Smiths con solo 1. 95 p. medio litro. Excelente relación calidad-precio teniendo en cuenta cuánto cuesta mostrar los eventos principales.La mayoría de la gente parecía entusiasmada con la pelea y el personal del bar hizo un gran trabajo al mantener los tiempos de espera al mínimo. Lo único negativo fue que un cliente tenía un vaso en los baños de caballeros, el urinario. Esto no tiene nada que ver con el personal, solo un triste reflejo de algunos de los clientes borrachos ingratosCon todo, un gran equipo aquí.

The pub is a bit on the small side with not many seats so can get quite full quickly inside, outside there's a decent beer garden, Prices are quite cheap for a city centre pub, Staff are friendly. This pub doesn't serve food and under 18's aren't allowed in .

Nice pub.Friendly staff .Drinks very reasonably priced.Some rowdy blokes were in when we went spoilt it a little.But that not the pub fault .All in all pleasant drink !!!!

We stayed for 1 night. Although basic accommodation the atmosphere was great lovely welcome, great cooked food and a special thanks to Cheryl for a great stay & for looking after us so well

Has to be one of the busiest pubs in the area & with the cheap prices its hardly surprising, it was standing room only most of the time as once you had a seat you held onto it, I wanted a hot drink as I wasn’t feeling great but the bar couldn’t accommodate so the manager suggested the small shop across the road & it was ok to bring it into the bar, great customer service, as a result the rest of the group stayed & had another round of drinks, lovely staff, great prices, can’t go wrong!

Don’t come here expecting craft beers, a wide drinks selection and modern decor.

Decent beers, good Craig, random night, karaeoke and late Friday night which made for an interesting random stop on way back to hotel
