A fantastic venue, great service and very friendly staff. A very relaxing experience.

*** They are unimpressed that I left 1 star regarding the fact they never seem to be open, yet they have social media accounts and don't think to use them to inform people they are closed on that day (we'd checked), so you make a point of going and have to find out for yourself, despite advertising as being open from 8am. That's "mind blowing". The fact they are never open when we try - that's mind blowing. Not sure how it's survived this long, as a business. Convinced this place never actually opens. Tried several times now to visit, when in York, visiting from Durham. First time we sat at a table in the courtyard and someone came out and said they were closing early due to no staff. Since then, despite advertising being open from 8am we've never found it open yet. Turned up today at almost noon and was not open, again. Tables folded away and door blocked with tables and folded chairs. Last time I'll be bothering.

Best meal I’ve had in a while with the customisable Toad in the Hole! Atmosphere is stunning and is positioned in a quieter part of lively York. I went with the Welsh dragon sausage (homemade) which took my breath away. Gravy was delicious and paired with red cabbage for freshness. The whole meal was as comforting even in the heat wave as advertised! Would love to come back

Stopped for breakfast in this quaint little place randomly....honestly could not fault anything, food was better at a 5*spa ive recently visited!! Service was impeccable, Do yourself a favour and dine here!! Little goldmine find....took in the local history also from the neighbour 😉

Popped in for a late lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. Most of the tables were taken downstairs in the courtyard but there was ample seating and room upstairs. Thanks to Billie and the bar staff for taking care of us and for providing a service where it appears nothing was to much to ask. Thanks also to the chef and kitchen staff for providing a very tasty lunch well prepared and presented with quality ingredients. Well priced and make use of the 2-4-1 on the cocktails. Apparently going through a revamp and introducing a fish based restaurant and keeping the pork based menu upstairs. Can’t wait to return.

Pool tables ar not cleaned and it costs £8 an hour +£10 a year membership not good value for money

I came here with my friends last Thursday on a day out to York and I can honestly say I’ve never had worse service in a restaurant. I work in hospitality so I know it can be stressful but there was not even 4 tables in when we visited so no reason for it to be that poor. After taking our food order the waitress left without giving us a chance to order more drinks so we had to wait for her to come around again to try get her attention. Once the table had been cleared and we were ready for the bill it took at least 30 minutes to get it. We were sitting with coats on so it was pretty obvious we were ready to leave but the waitresses on just kept coming down to the area we were sitting, looking at us and walking away. To make it worse there was at least £10 added to the bill in service charge even though we were only a table of 4 and received no good service. Also didn’t get a print out of the bill beforehand was just shown a card machine to pay my share. If they had shown us a print out of the bill like they should have we would have removed the service charge because it was not deserved. All that said though the food was very tasty and came promptly so at least someone could do their job well.

My 2nd visit after joining for the pool tables £10 for year. On both occasions I have have to spend 10 min cleaning the tables. Paying £8 per hour for the table. Is a rip off as all 3 tables need reclothes as holes in it. What am I paying the for. Impossible to get 8 games in one hours.

We have been many times.. and never had a bad meal yet, service, quality, can't praise it any better

You might never venture down Grape Lane in York - it’s easy to miss this quiet backwater in such a busy place - but by heck it’s worth a visit to find 1331! We popped by one evening for a quick pre-ghost walk drink in the courtyard, which is really lovely. Spotted the breakfast menu in the window so came back the next day to try it out. What a treat! I went for the Full 1331 English breakfast, daughter had a fish finger sandwich & there are *lots* of other options available (including veggie/vegan options, Eggs Benedict, Smoked salmon, whatever takes your fancy). Really delicious food, lovely friendly & welcoming service, cosy venue, decent prices and a really pretty outdoor courtyard area too. Recommend!

Amazing service from Iyla. Excellent food and atmosphere both during the day and on an evening when they offer extremely well priced alcoholic drinks for the centre of York. Staff are always helpful and happy to help with any queries. A must visit for anyone coming to the city.

Stopped here by chance while looking for somewhere to eat an early tea during the York Viking weekend. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced, and the staff were helpful and friendly (we were served by Billie). Had a really pleasant meal and a break from the crowds and then we were ready to go back out and start the evening. The music in 1331 was good too! Well definitely call in again on future trips to York.

We've been visiting York regularly for several years now and no visit is complete without a 1331 brunch. I would actually do the 4 hour round trip just for this Eggs Benedict. The restaurant itself is lovely and cosy, and always has great music playing at a perfect volume. The staff are always friendly and super efficient. Billie served us today and she was wonderful. Pricing is also really fair for the portions and quality. The coffee is amazing. Super strong and smooth. The poached eggs? Absolute perfection. We always add two hash browns to whatever we order and they are without doubt the best cooked hash browns I've ever eaten. This is a hidden gem in York for foodies, especially if brunch is your thing because it's served most of the day. It's central but just off the main roads so it feels calm and quiet. Such a great spot. We will be back whenever we're in the area.

Absolutely spot on Brunch! Great selection to suit all food requirements. I had avocado and egg on sourdough, hubby had full English! Ordered a side of hash browns (the law!) Billie the server was very attentive and cheery too. Will be back for sure!

Called for a late lunch in a quiet Tuesday. Service swift and friendly, food was excellent, good size portions and pot of tea for two plentyful. our dog was made welcome and given a water bowl. Fantastic location !

Hidden away in the back streets of York you'll find the 1331 Bar & Grill. The 1331 Bar & Grill is a small bar with a small restaurant attached. Drinks are reasonably priced but it is as a restaurant that the 1331 excels. The food available is mostly hot dogs, melts and jacket potatoes and all are reasonably priced, (especially for York) and very well prepared. Some cocktails are available at 2 for £9.50. I would definitely visit again when next in York and would recommend that you visit as well. Reservations available.

Located in the heart of the city, this cafe/restaurant is well sited for rest and refreshment on your walk around York! The young staff were very friendly and the menu quickly appeared. The "Soup of the Day" was a very tasty carrot and cumin soup and came with a crusty piece of bread. I couldn't resist one of the cakes for my dessert and it was all washed down with a pot of proper tea! (The dishes being brought out to other diners all looked really good with good sized portions.) The room was brightly decorated with large colourful posters but the tables were quite close to eachother. I was told that when the weather is nice, tables are set up in the street outside but it was too cold on the day of my visit! Well worth a visit!

From the moment we arrived we were taken care of. Issie was amazing taking our order especially as some of us (me) are quite fussy how we like our drinks. We were given time to look at the menu before we ordered food. Once we had finished our meal we were not rushed out we were given time to chat. 8 womem we have a lot of catching up to do. A wonderful eatery in the center of York. I am no food critic but the homemade coleslaw alone is quite possibly the best I've ever tasted. All of the food that we ordered was delicious, right down to the garnish which, to my unrefined palette, seemed to be pea shoots, invoking memories of childhood and eating peas fresh from the pod. The order was perfect, despite my family of picky eaters and their numerous bespoke changes to the dishes listed on the menu. The premises itself is bright and cheerily decorated. Not that I'd make a point of trying, but I am literally struggling to find any fault with this place. Ultimately, the children cleared their plates and we fed all 5 of us for under £65 including children's pudding…..which does bring me on to one very minor gripe. There was no itemised bill (presumably to be paper-free) and a service charge had been added. I had to ask the server if the total already included a service charge at payment. Don’t get me wrong, I would not begrudge the staff their tip as the service was quick, friendly and polite and up to the same high standard as the food, but it would be nice to have the bill checked or explained prior to making payment. In conclusion, we will eat here every time we are in York, I would even go so far as to say we might even make a trip to York just to go to 1331!

Like all the hospitality businesses in the UK, they seemed very understaffed. However, the waitress was amazing. She was sweet, got us seated right away and thought with us about a possible other table that would be better for us. Drinks and food came fast and the atmosphere was good. Food was typical comfort food and the portion size was very big. Loved the place and we would definitely visit again when we're in York.

We were recommended this restaurant for brunch and we weren’t disappointed! We ordered poached eggs with smashed avocado on toast and it was very yummy! Also ordered the full English and a breakfast ciabatta, clean plates all round, will definitely be back!

Booked a table the previous day for 15:30, called in today to ask to move the booking to an earlier time, told by staff “no problem” arrived at 14:30 only to be told that food was not available until 17:00. Staff must have known this at the time. Had to find alternative eating arrangements, when I called to complain, was told “well it’s the time of year” funny must only be December this year, ” unprofessional staff and unprofessional management. Won’t bother again,

I really enjoyed the breakfast (off a very extensive breakfast menu) that we had here, there was a lovely vibe and the waitress was very friendly and attentive. There are just one or two points I'd like to make: - I didn't like that the condiments (ketchup etc) came in sachets - it gives off the whole 'greasy spoon' vibe and that's not what this place was at all! A bottle or a ramekin would have been nicer. - We had to query our bill as it came in about £5 more than we anticipated. When raised the waitress said that this would have been a service charge. I wasn't very happy that a service charge was automatically added to the bill, or that there were no signs or disclaimers saying this would be the case, just felt a bit sneaky!

We come here for brunch every year when we attend the Xmas market, and when we also visit york . The food and service is always great, with an extensive menu. Aimee looked after us again and she is always pleasant and chatty.

One of the few places in York that opens early, allowing for a good breakfast and a coffee before the shops open. It's cosy, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the food (what I've had so far) is lovely. Probably the nicest hash browns I've ever had.

We had cocktails and food in 1331 before going off to the theatre. Staff were really friendly, our meals were delicious (we both had the Bratwurst hotdogs). The cocktails kicked a punch! We can really recommend 1331 for eating and drinking.
