We called in on a wet Saturday lunchtime for a quick bite and a coffee. We had bacon and sausage sandwiches. The tea cakes were average size but packed full of meat. Both the bacon and sausage tasted to be good quality. I’m not sure if it was due to the rain, but they were packing away the outside tables whilst we ate. It felt like they were about to close which always makes me feel I need to hurry up

Half way through eating a bacon roll my wife discovered the bread was mouldy. This put my children off their food. I was ill the following day with suspected food poisoning. We complained only to receive £3 compensation. Terrible customer service & awful food. Avoid.

Went here for the all day breakfast for £6, great quality of food and drink. A really lovely interior and very friendly and welcoming staff. Definitely coming back, and would definitely recommend.

Great place for a coffee or lunch and anything in between. Had their all day breakfast and jacket potato with family for lunch. Food was excellent, as was the service. Highly recommended

Small cafe, tucked down a side street. Worth finding, you won't find a better value cooked breakfast in York.

A very good value English Breakfast with half decent coffee. Certainly better value than a certain pub chain a few minutes away (which I had the previous day). Small surroundings but definitely worth a visit

We were visiting a rather hectic York and were looking for somewhere quieter for a lunch stop and quite by chance we found this little gem of a café. We had broccoli and stilton soup and it was the best we have had. Really tasty homemade soup and nice drinks. Friendly service and although all tables were full it was blissfully calm. Warm & friendly service from someone who evidently cares about the quality of food. Thank you.

We were looking for somewhere for an afternoon sit down and coffee as two of our usual cafes were shut. We noticed a sign pointing down an alley to this cafe and gave it a go. We had teacake special with a coffee and a tea - good stuff.

Nothing particularly wrong here, by the same token nothing outstanding. Reasonable coffee and a pleasant enough atmosphere but I have to say I don't like to see the only server going out for a cigarette.

I have been coming to this cafe for over 2 years. It has a warm welcome and great custom. Food is served quick with fantasic quality. York cafes can be privey but no4 is very reasonably priced and all their food is fresh. Theres plenty of seating inside and out. Great atmosphere for anyone. Free wifi and dogs welcome- what more you do you want!

Sat outside on a warm Saturday afternoon. The available table had not been cleared down. I walked inside and ordered a latte and a cappuccino, payed my £4 and was told it would be brought out to us. When it arrived, the server half cleared the previous customers cups and plate, left soiled serviettes, used stirrers and split sugar, making no attempt to wash the table clean. She then came outside foe a cigarette.

Awful experience. Staff were so rude. Visit Sunday morning, and it wasn’t particularly busy. Surprised how rude the two ladies were. Food arrived before drinks and when I asked if drinks were on way.

Not what we expected at all, when you read the menu and see a fish goujons sandwich with sourdough and gem lettuce thats what you expect. But you actually get is one slice of thin soggy bread with ice

Such a fun pub tucked into a quiet neighborhood. Watched a Wales vs Poland EURO qualifier in a Welsh broadcast, which was wild, while enjoying a pint of Boltmaker. Warm, friendly place and a great bar
