Just back from a two day break at this hotel. Excellent service, food expertly prepared and on time. Room was well appointed and spotless. Location super. I have read most of the reviews and have to say that I do not agree with any of the negatives. I will recommend this hotel to my friends and family wholeheartedly. Thank you.

We visited today for lunch, I phoned at 14.35 to double check they had availability for myself, husband and dog and spoke to a man, I was told if we arrived in the next 10 minutes that it was fine. We arrived at 14.40, I walked in, explained we had just called and was met with the most abrupt, unfriendly and rude attitude. The tall, young girl with brown hair and a short black skirt from behind the bar then thrust the menu into our hands and said we have to order within 2 minutes. We stood there bewildered and hurriedly picked something from the menu, ordered drinks and had to ask where we could sit. The table was pointed at where we could sit. We sat awaiting the food and heard the same girl from behind the bar go into the kitchen and have a conversation with the chef about how ‘it was taking the piss’ and that who took the phone call shouldn’t of said there was availability. Why advertise that you serve lunch until 3pm if 20 minutes before 3pm, you quite clearly have zero interest in taking anymore orders? The food came and we enjoyed what we ordered, no one checked on us to see how the food was and our plates did not get cleared. We decided to go to the bar and pay, the same girl stood and ignored us whilst carrying on a conversation with some other colleagues. She finally acknowledged us and we payed the bill, not adding a service charge for obvious reasons. We eat here everytime we’re up this way but unfortunately will not be returning due to the appalling and unprofessional customer service. Being an establishment that has won awards, you do not expect that level of service. As for the girl behind the bar, she clearly should not be in a customer facing role as she has zero customer service skills. A very disappointing experience!

Just returned from a night away at the hotel with friends and their children The hotel itself has been very tastefully transformed with a lovely outdoor seating area however the staff need to lighten up and learn to smile , customer service NEEDS to improve The breakfast menu included eggs of every variation fried, poached, scrambled , eggs Benedict , eggs Florentine etc but when my wife asked for a simple soft boiled egg the guy said no because boiled eggs were not on the menu, when I asked why he said because they had no egg cups , come on , and because they take too long to cook, they take 3 minutes probably less time than the other egg alternatives 🤷‍♂️

The food was fine - not outstanding, but perfectly respectable Dales fare (lots of roast meats and all that). But the experience was diminished by the fact that the restaurant is severely understaffed. Dishes took a really long time to emerge - at breakfast, we allowed an hour, and were still in danger of missing our transportation (which we told them about) about 45 minutes in. And getting them to bring us the check was a monumental effort that required us to relentlessly buttonhole multiple staff people, and finally camp out at the front desk til someone showed. I understand that it's really hard right now to hire staff, but this was a bit extreme.

We booked an early table for Sunday lunch in the restaurant for the 3 of us. The restaurant is beautiful with a lovely outlook. Myself and my husband ordered the beef Sunday lunch, and my son ordered the beef burger. My sons meal was lovely and he really enjoyed it. The Sunday lunches were quite dissapoining. The plates were cool, and the food was luke warm. The beef was very rare, which I dont mind, but the quality of the beef unfortunately was not good enough to serve that rare . We were on a short timescale due to meeting up with friends, so we would not have had time to wait for a change in meal. That said, the flavours were lovely. The restaurant manager was excellent and very professional. He listened to our comments and was very understanding. When we are next in the area, we will definitely revisit and give the Aysgarth Hotel another go.

Disappointing visit and I’m not one to write reviews but this place has such potentially and was sorely let down by one dish and some of the staff. We were spoken to with very abruptly when ordering, seating and discussing the dish that was a problem. The arancini was burnt, physically solid and my partner thought I was taking the mick when I was unable to cut it. I returned it to the bar apologised and the waitress apologised and offered to fetch me another. This arrived and we could tell we’d upset the chef, the arancini had been shown some warmth and plated, cold in the middle and as a rice dish that hadn’t been reheated I was worried about eating them. We made no more comment. The item was taken off our bill when we went to pay and showed the frankly embarrassed waitress behind the bar what we’d been served. The more senior gentleman looked at us as if we’d done something wrong. As locals and regular users previous this was a real shame and we felt very unwelcome. The 2 other dishes we had were enjoyable but the atmosphere and treatment we received really spoilt our visit and meal.

The hotel itself is lovely! The dinner was lovely and the food was divine, however… We were staying in the camping pitches. These are obviously being wound down - our pitch was right next to a skip and had work men parking on our pitch. Was not really the quiet relaxed place we expected. Showers and toilets are in adapted garden sheds. Depends what you’re looking for - great for a stopover, but we would not be back camping. For their eco lodges, we probably would once they are built.

While on a weeks holiday in Aysgarth myself and my wife called in to have a drink and a meal for lunch on 19th June 2024, before we had even ordered anything the bar tender spoke to us very abruptly when we asked for a menu, we shrugged it off and ordered two drinks and fish & chips for me and the sausage & mash for my wife. I paid for everything and while the bar tender was pouring our drinks we went and settled at a table, I then got up and went to collect our drinks and was told again very abruptly "I will bring them to you". After around thirty minutes our food arrived, my fish was covered in a very thick hard batter that shattered when cut unlike anything else I have ever had and the fish also tasted a little funny so not sure what that was? also the chips were like concrete! my wife's lunch consisted of three sausages on a spoon full of mash and a little gravy. We both work in hospitality and would expect better from an establishment like this or maybe we just didn't look like their regular clientele, who knows??? Neither of us like to complain too much but after talking about it again this morning the 20th felt we just had to on this occasion. Cost for; 2 x pints 3 x sausages and a spoonful of mash with gravy 1 x awful fish and chips (I left half of it) & being spoken to like we were trash Just shy of £50 WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL.

The restaurant/hotel has been taken over since we were last here pre-covid, and still rates as one of the best in the area for food, with a more modern decor and ambience. The usual pub favourites are on the menu at pub prices, and then in addition there are a number of more unusual restaurant-style dishes which are more expensive, but in our opinion, delicious and well worth the extra cost. There's a real restaurant, which makes the dining experience more special, and very welcoming and attentive service. Just a shame we weren't in the area long enough to eat here twice - maybe next time.

We booked a table for dinner as we were staying within walking distance. From the warm welcome on arrival (despite being early) until we left the service was faultless, friendly and so efficient. The staff were absolutely fantastic despite the pub and restaurant being packed. The food was delicious: the seafood starter was sublime and the spare ribs were excellent. The portions are really generous and 2 starters each were enough for us. The wine list is comprehensive and reasonably priced. The staff easily earned the 20% tip we left and were very gracious. A memorable meal and evening.

We did not stay at the hotel but as we were visiting the nearby falls for the day we booked for lunch the day before. We both had the Sunday roast with all the meats, Beef, turkey, lamb and pork for a £3 supplement so £16 in total. After an 8 mile walk we were ready for our lunch and we both agreed it was one of the best roasts we have ever had! The roast was presented beautifully with cauliflower cheese and fresh vegetables separately. Sitting outside in the evening with a pint and a nice view of the Dale's was fantastic. The food was good but possibly overpriced for what it was. I had a steak and guineas pie with chips: it was delicious and filling; my partner had the cannelloni, but found this quite bland. Booked this small, adult only campsite for a couple of nights to go walking with the dogs. The description is of a basic campsite with no frills so I didn't have great expectations, however I was pleasantly surprised it was much better. Only two loos and showers there was never a queue, way cleaner than I would have expected on a basic campsite, no spiders or creepy crawlies. Showers were nice and hot, not good if your tall but no nasty mould or fusty smells. Cleaners came in daily. The site was clean and well maintained, the fellow campers were respectful, tidy and friendly. Nice level pitch. Easy access from the campsite to the bar, beer garden, lovely coffee shop across the road. Plenty of access to walks and a 5 minute walk to the falls enjoyed them to ourselves in the evening when the masses had gone home. We didn't have a meal as food isn't served outside at the moment and we couldn't leave the dogs in the tent or car as it was too hot, sitting out in the beer garden is lovely with great views. One draw back and this is just camping, noise travels! Very little sleep due to snoring and talking from one tent all night! Tough with the smooth.

Went for a mid afternoon drink 4 adults three kids, ordered drinks from the guy at the bar who was nice and friendly. The kids wanted to play outside as it was drizzling so we decided to sit inside in the room overlooking the field so we could see the kids, having sat down for 5 minutes a lady came over and asked ‘are you eating’?’ to which we relied ‘not sure yet‘ we then got TOLD to move outside as they had satanised the area and it’s for people eating only ! There were no signs anywhere to say this and the door was open to enter. We actually didn’t mind moving but it was the way we were told to move ! We found the lady quite rude and not very welcoming at all, in the current climate you would hope people would be more accommodating to having customers especially as once we moved she simply wiped the table down ...? Why not let us stay there until we finished then do that after instead of making us sit in the rain ? Or maybe lock the door or put up a sign Saying dinners only ?!? However all wasn't lost we instead went just down the road to the Wheatsheaf in Carperby where Claire ( the owner) welcomed us cheerily and happily said you can sit where you want she was lovely and we ended up staying for a fantastic meal and several drinks! So we actually ended up being very glad that the pervious place was rude as we found a gem in the the Wheatsheaf instead!

We both enjoyed our meal here with good choices on the menu. The Lamb Rump was delicious served with vegetables and my husband had the Bar Steak which is a special cut of beef supplied by a local butcher.

We visited this pub/hotel for a birthday celebration while staying in a holiday cottage in nearby Thoralby. We booked in advance as there were 7 adults and a dog. What a find. Menu was excellent, food was well cooked and very tasty. Staff were very friendly and service was great.

What a gem of a find this was! First positive for us was the pub was dog friendly so they had our vote. They really were dog friendly as they made such a fuss of Idris our greyhound providing biscuits and his own water bowl!

This place has a lot to recommend it. Close to the picturesque and famous Aysgarth Falls in the stunning Wensleydale valley, the pub itself has a traditional feel with old flagstone floors and huge thick walls. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food excellent. Good choice of wines too. Prices very reasonable at £12 for a roast. The bar area is dog friendly. Booking is recommended as it can get very busy.

We were recommended this restaurant by the owners of our rental cottage. From the outside, it looks a bit tired like most of the pubs in the area. However, inside it is really lovely and the meal we had here was the best of our four day stay in the area.

We were staying at the nearby lodges and called in on a very busy and sweltering Bank Holiday weekend - we were just lucky enough to place an order before food service stopped. We sat on the lovely outdoor terrace out the back. The roast dinners were really top notch and I enjoyed my veggie dish, we all ate every mouthful. The Estrella on draught were also the nicest pints we had our entire trip. Friendly service and lovely surroundings. Recommended.

Wide-ranging menu and excellent quality food. The seafood sharing platter makes a fine meal on its own for two people as portions are generous. We ate in the bar area as had our dog with us, but the hotel has a large dining room too. However, it is an extremely popular place to eat with tourists and locals, so making a reservation is a must.

We ate here two during our stay nearby. The first night was excellent with mezze but the second night not so good. The fish (with chips) was tastleless and didn't taste like cod - we did mention this. The other meal was good with a stir fry but portion was huge. This seemed to be general with people leaving food. Nice dining room and friendly staff.

The owner of Stow House recommended the Aysgarth Falls Hotel after we arrived on Friday evening for the weekend. We went straight there and had a fabulous meal with drinks and excellent service. We can recommend the spiced lamb; the fish and chips; the hummus and olives as well as the panna cotta and sticky toffee pudding. We enjoyed it so much that we went on Saturday evening after a longish walk. We were welcomed by friendly staff, had a different table and enjoyed the butter chicken, duck confit; affagato and lemon posset, and a very nice Amaretto.

We had our first-ever Yorkshire pudding here -- on a Sunday night, when we were lucky to get a reservation -- and yes, I would recommend you make a reservation, because this place gets surprisingly full. The food was all quite good -- I'm not going to list everything we had -- but the very friendly and helpful people hugely enhanced the experience.

We visited on the hottest day of the year which made the restaurant uncomfortably hot. To add to the discomfort there was a family with a toddler who cried throughout. Neither of these were direct problems with the hotel but did detract from a pleasant evening.

Wow I cannot recommend this place enough! We booked a table as we heard it got busy and we were pleased we did. We sat in the bar with our dog and were served at our table. The service was friendly and welcoming and the pub itself had a relaxed atmosphere. The food was simply stunning. We had venison and lamb and the meals were cooked to perfection. Well worth the money and would definitely recommend.

We ate here twice in a week while staying in the area. The specials changed in the few days between our visits so we had a very good menu choice each time. Can't fault anything really. The soup was chock full of vegetables and had loads of flavour. Main courses were properly cooked (i.e. not overcooked) - over our two visits we had chicken, venison and duck. Not much room for dessert but I had a chocolate brownie which was very rich and chocolatey, with raspberry and strawberry and vanilla ice cream - sounds ordinary, but EVERYTHING had so much flavour. Other half loved the Semer Water beer. Vege, vegan, gf all had menu options that looked equally appetising. Service very friendly and not slow. Totally satisfied!

We wanted something a bit special to mark our milestone anniversary, and The Aysgarth Falls Hotel fitted the bill perfectly. We dined in the attractive restaurant area, the service was prompt and friendly and the food was excellent. Our starters, chicken Caesar salad and the hummus with flatbreads and olives, were just the right size and very tasty. The main courses, lamb with couscous and the Bang Bang chicken salad, were also delicious and well-presented. We finished the meal with the lemon posset and the chocolate brownie. The individual glasses of Shiraz and New Zealand Sauvignon were both excellent.

The food was great as always!! and the friends who hadn’t eaten here before loved it, and said they will return again. All the staff are attentive and friendly. If your in the area the falls hotel is definitely somewhere you have to try!

We visited here after reading some encouraging reviews and noting that “booking is essential for food”, we thought it would be a safe bet while we were in the area. Unfortunately, the 2 stars are for service along as the bar staff were very polite and helpful. They are also dog friendly which is a bonus. Other than that, the food was not impressive. We had the Sunday roast and the beef tasted of poor quality, and vegetables were not seasoned and lacked flavour. The cabbage served with the meal was pickled which wasn’t what we expected. We were still hungry afterwards but didn’t want to waste any more money on desert in case it was more of the same. The decor is very tired and the place does lack atmosphere unfortunately. We didn’t drink alcohol but they have a wide variety of ales to choose from behind the bar. We won’t be returning, sadly!

Could not recommend enough! Staff are so friendly and welcoming. They make sure to go above and beyond for customers, making sure you have everything you need. Decor is absolutely fabulous and not to forget they grow their own fresh ingredients, you don’t get a better experience than that. Food is 10/10 so flavourful, definitely will be returning.
