We booked Avenue 141 for a birthday celebration. The evening was huge success. From the canapés to the desserts, the meal was delicious. The student staff were attentive and professional and nothing was too much trouble, especially considering we were a large group. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and I cannot recommend it highly enough Thank you for a memorable evening Avenue 141

I have reviewed before (5 Stars) and I decided it's about time I reviewed again after having several more great meals here! Recently we have done the Chinese New Year and Cruise Themed evenings and as usual they were exceptional. We have 3 further nights booked that we are looking forward to (It helps we can walk from home and the price is just superb value!) The themed nights are a particular favourite as we love all the little touches the students come up with (For example, napkins in the shape of cruise boats, portholes on the walls and a boarding pass to get in) The food is always so delicious. we love chatting with the students, finding out their plans for the future. See you all again soon!

We went for a group lunch and it all started badly. No nearby parking, my husband had to walk back from parking the car 500 yards from the venue (when we visited before there was assigned parking for restaurant guests) It was pouring with rain and we had to queue outside in the rain while guests paid their bills and bought drinks before moving inside to sit down. The food when it arrived was underwhelming and some hot food was cold. The students were unenthusiastic and didn’t notice when things were missing. Served cheese and biscuits without a knife, then two other people on the table also were served theirs without a knife! We felt there was little supervision of students by staff. The drinks they insisted we purchased on arrival were cheaper had they been bought at the table ( we had to buy wine by the glass rather than let us buy a bottle !) All little criticisms but added up to decide no way would we go back!

We went to Avenue 141 on Halloween. This was a dinner for our little Rotary Club and so quite a lot of us sat down to dinner. It was a set menu for Halloween and the restaurant and students were made up to suit the occasion. We were met with a welcoming aperitif and a canapé which were both very good. Alternatives were available for allergies etc. The starter of devilled eggs and smoked salmon was delicious as was the main course of a pork chop with black pudding and mustard sauce. Dessert was a super smooth lemon posset with blackcurrant coulis. The dessert was a perfect end to the meal as the sharpness rally cleaned the palette after the pork. Finally there was coffee and little meringue ghosts. All the staff were students with one lecturer. Some of the students were first year and they had only started two months before so the excellence of the service was even more impressive. Personally I am looking forward to going back and I highly recommend anyone to go and try. Booking is essential.

It was our first ever visit to Avenue 141, having been recommended to us by friends previously. It was a brilliant experience with the service and standard of food absolutely excellent. The students serving us were very polite, attentive and had a great customer service attitude. The standard of the food was first class and we had a really enjoyable evening and would most definitely recommend it to anybody else thinking of somewhere different to haveca meal in the Fareham area.

An unexpected pleasure in all respects. Very high standard of all food served, from salmon to steak and both interesting starters and puddings too. All served professionally by students of the college. Additional touches of home baked breads and canapés were very much appreciated too. The restaurant is intimate but airy in a modern setting with plenty of local parking and the prices were gratifyingly reasonable, indeed modest for the standards realised here. Well worth a visit.

Excellent venue at rear of College off Bishopfield Road. Staff whilst relaxed were on the ball. Nothing too much trouble. Very attentive and when I compare to The Pig at Brockenhurst, 141 would be ideal place for their staff to understand service. The food was beautifully cooked and well presented. Would we go there again Yes without doubt. It may be a training establishment, but the value of service & food you get for little outlay, this venue is spot on. We were a table of 3 for lunch.

I went with a group for lunch today and we were bowled over. For £14 I had pear and watercress soup, pheasant and creme brulee. The standard of food, flavour and presentation was superb. If you are concerned about visiting a training restaurant, don’t be. In this one, you will find good quality food in pleasant, clean surroundings with attentive staff. There might be a few minor mistakes by young people learning their trade, but this is balanced by the cost. Three courses for two people, coffee and a glass of wine for £32. Remarkable value. And the food? Well, creative with some originality, excellent presentation and sociable, low key but attentive waiting staff. Good blends of flavours evident in a trout and salmon starter, an exceptional shoulder of lamb, and a very pleasant dessert which cleansed the palate. My companion, a chef, agreed that this was a very pleasant experience with quality of food and service to admire. Well done to staff and students, who have created a little hidden gem that Fareham and Fareham College can be proud of. We will be back, not only to experience the food, but to support the future of the hospitality industry. Have no concerns about going here, as it’s impressive.

We finally got round to visiting for lunch after having seen the venue advertised at local food markets. The students really make an effort when serving and food is excellent. The menu choices are more limited than what you would expect from a pub or commercial restaurant but they do change every so often. We will definitely go back for an evening meal and possibly try out one of their themed nights too.

A huge vote of thanks to the Chef, Restaurant Manageress and all the students for creating, preparing and serving the most superb meals for our group. A special selection of seasonal dishes were created, that were incredibly flavourful, healthy, beautifully presented, served and maintained the principles of Slimming World eating. Fifteen people enjoyed every mouthful and everyone commented on the choices and standard. Everyone enjoyed the experience so much we are planning to return very shortly.

A group of friends and I booked a table and we all chose the three course Christmas lunch for a very reasonable £18 (the four course was £24). My choice was the Old Winchester cheese beignet for a starter followed by roasted crown of turkey and the sweet was a dark chocolate and cranberry tarlet. My usual bottle of Peroni provided the drink. The meal was almost perfect except for the rather hard tarlet case, best to break it up with a fork rather than a spoon. This was my first visit to the Fareham College 'Avenue 141' and I was very impressed considering everything was done by students. They are dressed in waistcoats and some served meals with white gloves, my Peroni was partially poured and the bottle was put on the table with the waiter turning it so the label faced me. Wine was served with one hand behind the back, warm rolls are placed on side plates using tongs and everyone is addressed as Sir or Madam. No doubt a lot of these serving details will evaporate when the students enter the commercial world but it's all part of the training and how wonderful, as a customer, to be treated like this. Overall an excellent occasion with the food as good as anything (well, probably better) you'll get in Fareham. If you go to the Avenue 141 website to check out the menu of the day you can also have a look at a brief YouTube clip to give an impression of the place, free parking, too.

This was not my first visit but I was certainly impressed by the welcome, the service and the food, which being a party of 32, we had pre selected. We were impressed from the start and liked the square tables of eight which made conversation easy. The food was of a high quality, well cooked and nicely presented with sensibly sized portions. The only point which failed my 'excellent' test was that my cheese board was removed from under my nose before I had finished eating it ! But then, I am slow eater. Well done to all of the students, and of course, the dedicated team who train them. We will be back

Having been once before I had to book again. As before the staff were fantastic and so was the food. The restaurant, despite being in the college is really well designed and spotlessly clean. By the nature of the restaurant it's not all about profit so the tables are really well spaced apart. The food was fantastic, amuse bouche of goats cheese and tomato, I had the courgette and ricotta rolls for starter. I never really order a vegetarian anything but so glad I did these were delicious. We both had confit duck leg for main ( excellently cooked, my partner declared it the best duck he has had) and as before the vegetable sides were amazing. My cheese board was well presented. Finally we were given a petit four of a mini coconut and passionfruit trifle. The bill for 5 courses, TWO bottles of wine and two glasses of port was less than 70 pounds. One of these days I will manage to book one of the theme nights before they sell out! The students are a credit to the college.

Firstly, the students and the restaurant itself were immaculate. All students we spoke to were charming and friendly. The food was fantastic. We were given 2 canapes on arrival (as well as lovely warm rolls), an arancini ball on cauliflower puree and a small crouton topped with pulled pork. Both delicious. We both had the mussels in cider for starter and also very tasty. I had the pheasant breast for main, notoriously a lean meat and easy to dry out. This was perfect, moist and just the right shade of pink. The accompanying vegetables were spot on-literally the best kale/cabbage I have ever had. I followed with a cheese board, excellently presented and the brie was not fridge cold but perfectly oozy. We were then given petit fours of home made marshmallow and carrot cake. All in all it was a delightful evening and the price tag at the end was very pleasant- 5 courses, a bottle of wine and 2 glasses of port less than £60!!! If the students working there are a reflection of the youth of today this country is in good hands! Cannot praise it highly enough, we are lucky to live 15 minutes walk away and will be returning many times. Cheap fine dining on our doorstep, we consider ourselves very lucky!

We were a party of 14; probably not the best way to try out a new venue but, on the whole, the restaurant did very well. Good points: the four course Christmas meal was well-prepared and well-presented. Service was prompt and unflustered. Room for improvement: there could have been a little more space around the table to make access - and waiting - easier; staff could have shown a little more confidence and enthusiasm (but hey, they're young and still learning); staff could have apologised when hiccups occurred; staff could have smiled more (but maybe they've been taught to be respectfully serious?). They could also have shown gratitude for the generous tip, which we were told to put in a wooden box when we offered it. (Maybe it doesn't go to them? I hope it does.) I will certainly visit again at a less busy time and I congratulate them on their efforts this evening.

Being a college based restaurant, we weren't quite sure what to expect. The restaurant itself was was tastefully furnished and decorated in an elegantly modern style which, with the exception of the standard college issue suspended ceiling, would put many local commercial restaurants to shame. The waiting staff are students from the college who are still learning their craft or just earning some money, but friendly, eager and helpful so allowances are easy to make for any mistakes which are made. The food though needs no allowances it really was some of the the best food we have ever had in Fareham, or anywhere for that matter. There are four choices for Starter, Main and Dessert, and two choices for the Fish course. We all had four courses with the fish as an extra and between the four of us we sampled nearly every choice. They were all, without exception, excellent in both quality of ingredients and preparation. If the food was also cooked by the students then they are to be whole-heartedly congratulated for this superb fayre. I believe the restaurant is unfortunately only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, otherwise it would become a regular on our weekend nights out. However we will certainly be returning on a regular basis. The prices are very reasonably with the 4 courses for 4 with one beer and a bottle of wine coming in at around £100.Please try it, as well as having a great meal you will be helping the local community.

Had a good meal with friends at this training restaurant service was good when you consider that all the waiting staff are in training. The food was well cooked & presented with just the right amount of flair!

We go nearly every year as a start to Christmas and the students never let us down, they are polite enthusiastic and helpful, nothing is too much trouble, and the food is excellent and variedFour courses plus coffee and mince pies for £25 is also fantastic value for money for first class dining.I would encourage anyone to go along and support the top class chefs of the future.

The restaurant provides a fine dining experience at a reasonable price. It can do this because it is staffed by students. They serve in a very professional manner, and the food is cooked to exceptional standards. However; you can see the newer students are slightly nervous of having to deal with real people. This gives them the chance to get past these verves before starting full time work. There was a large table of 10 of us, and the food was cooked and delivered to all guests piping hot and at the same time. I have paid much more for food, and rarely do they manage to get all the food to the table at the same time, and hot. I would happily visit again. On the down side, the menu is very limited and the vegetarian options uninspired. There is only one option, at the time I visited risotto. Although cooked well, it is not something I would chose to have when eating out, as it is very easy to make at home and is not anything new or exciting to try. Lastly, there were none of the dessert option we wanted available.

The tutor at one of my wife's further education classes invited her students and their spouses to join her and her husband at this venue for an evening meal. It was for a special taster menu by a guest chef.In the event only my wife and I took up the invitation so there were just four of us at the table. As you will have surmised from other reviews, this is a restaurant staffed and run by students learning the catering business. It was not full. The appearance, politeness and level of the students' attention was very good, and instant action was given to such requests as more water or additional drinks. The menu was very imaginative across the whole of the seven courses. Being a taster menu the only choice was take it or leave it. We all took everything. The only disappointment I think all of us found was that the Roasted Partridge was tough. Everything else was excellent.Finding the restaurant in the vast college complex was not easy. My best advice is to drive all the way round the back and park there as that seems to be the closest approach. It was a bit off-putting to see masses of restricted parking signs everywhere even though most of the parking spaces in that area were empty. The cost of the meal was £25 which struck me as very reasonable for what we had. As I said, the place was not quite full but it deserved to be and I'd be more than happy to go back.

Avenue 141 is run by students doing their diploma in catering and hospitality. The waiting staff were there to learn, as well as serve, so we're quite nervous, but did a wonderful job, with no mishaps. Food was cordon bleu, therefore presented as an art form on the plate, hence it not being piping hot, perhaps due to more care taken in the presentation. However, it was very tasty, with adequate portions. Food of this calibre elsewhere would cost a lot more than the very reasonable bill. Well worth a return visit

This was the first time I had been to an evening service at the restaurant, although I had been for lunch previously. The students had the right level of attentiveness to the diners. The menu was excellent, great value, very varied and would have catered to all. The wine list is superb and house red excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed the food I ordered and the experience as a whole. I am more than happy to recommend Avenue 141 and will be returning soon..

I visited Avenue 141 with my mother and sister in May for a theme evening produced by a level 3 student. It was a huge success and all those who participated should be very proud of themselves. The restaurant was well decorated with a great menu and excellent service. I am looking forward to the theme evenings in the next academic year.

This was my first visit to Restaurant 141. The staff were welcoming but most of all professional. The menu was well balanced offering a range of dishes that catered for the whole parties tastes. The only problem we encountered was making a choice because the menu was so appetising. I would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly and I will be returning soon to try some of the other dishes. I wish the students who served us every success in their careers. Had the restaurant not been linked to a college I would have assumed they had already completed their training and were working in a commercial restaurant.

I visited Avenue 141 in March for a lunch service and had an enjoyable visit. My mother and I were both impressed with the menu and the students. The Steak Diane which was cooked at the table was very nice and the level 3 student showed off good flambé skills. As always the students were polite, friendly and professional and ensured all customers enjoyed the service. We will definitely be returning.

Once again we have had a good meal at Avenue 141. The young trainees were keen polite and attentive. The choice was good for each course, three of us chose the Steak Diane cooked at the table most competently by third year student. The wine list, though limited is more than adequate and very reasonably priced. We have already booked for another meal.

Yet another lovely meal by the Fareham College catering students at Avenue 141. A good menu selection, well priced and beautifully presented. The fish courses were delicious and new clients were most impressed, The students were extremely polite and friendly. Although there were a couple of hiccups along the way, the problems were dealt with promptly and without fuss - always a bonus. Solent Events & Leisure will be back!

I visited Avenue 141 with my mother and we were both impressed with the changes made to the building so far. The meal was delicious and very well priced. The wine list offered a good selection of wines which was also reasonably priced. Another professional and efficient service ran by the students who are gaining confidence and skills within all areas of their training. It's a delight to dine there.

The staff and students within Avenue 141 are friendly, talented and professional. Every meal is enjoyable and cooked well and the pricing for both food and drink is very reasonable. Another very good tutored tasting, this time with TWO wines with each delicious course. Really excellent cooking and presentation, and superb value. ( I'm very glad that the cheese course was added, as the wine served with it was perfectly complemented by it) A lovely evening, and we can hardly wait for the next one to celebrate the opening of the new restaurant in February.

I visited this restaurant today with my mother and I'm pleased to say it was a delight. The summer lunch buffet was a success, the food was well presented and enjoyable. The new decor is warming and attractive; I was impressed with the electronic signing in equipment and how smart the students looked in their uniforms. The staff and students were all polite, professional and willing to talk. I am looking forward to my next visit. An excellent start to a new academic year, keep up the good work.

After visiting this restaurant regularly this year I'm finally writing a review for Avenue 141. I'm pleased to say I have thoroughly enjoyed each occasion. The menus are very well thought out, the food is delicious, very well priced and the atmosphere is great. Staff and students are superb, very attentive and professional and always go out of their way to exceed customers expectations. My only concern is some customers fail to realise that it is a training restaurant - which is the reason you are getting such a good price! I will definitely be returning when it reopens.

Have been meaning to try this restaurant for a while, and finally got round to it on Tuesday. We were were asked at the door by a polite but clearly nervous young lady whether we had booked (we had) she then walked off towards to a table without saying anything else, so we assumed we were to follow, luckily it turns out the table was for us!We were greeted by our waiter for the evening who was very attentive and seemed to have a sixth sense as to when we needed further drinks and as to when we required a break between courses.Food was excellent, extremely tasty and well executed. Both my husband and I had the goats cheese with pear and blackberries to start, was delicious. I had the lamb for main and my husband had the rabbit, both were fantastic. We then had the mango tatin and the cheese for pudding. Again wonderful. The only 'criticism' I would have about the food is that they served waaaaay too much cheese! Not really a complaint, I just felt guilty about wasting some of it as it was delightful.Good choice of wine and extremely reasonably priced. In total we paid just over £50.00 for two amerettos and cokes, two glasses of sparkling water, a bottle of sparkling rose wine, two starters, two mains and two desserts! Will definitely return to this absolute little gem of a restaurant!

Glad we tried this restaurant, always good to support up and coming chefs, waiters, waitresses and budding business people. Not sign posted very well, need to change to old name on the signs, to the new one, that would help. Staff looked so young, lack a little confidence but did their utmost to make you feel welcome, comfortable and well served. Please check your printed menus before using them, spelling mistakes should be rectified befor the public get a hold of them! The steak was cooked to perfection, vegetables not quite up to scratch, little cold and a bit too crisp. On the whole a wonderful evening and many congratulation to all the staff. Will be back.

Went Wednesday evening with my husband and two adult children. Found the food to be quite small portions and the mains a bit cold. Did enjoy the desert but they didn't have everything available that was listed on the menu. Quite pricy though for a college experience. Would not return but its worth a try for anyone who might enjoy the fine dining type experience more than us. We do like quality food but some quantity as well.

This was our second visit to Avenue 141 in as many months. We enjoyed the food and drink very much. The quality was excellent. And at a very reasonable price, too!The student staff were perhaps a little inexperienced, but the teaching staff tried very hard to make our visit quite memorable. We shall certainly be returning for another helping - thanks to Avenue 141.

Lunch for 6, and every dish was excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant. Only 4 tables booked today, so plenty of space, and staff had time to be attentive.Food beautifully presented, but helpings were generous as well. Quality of ingredients good, and fairly wide choice on menu (eg Mains: 2 fish & 1 vegetarian & 3 meats).Wine list inexpensive and good.As this is a training restaurant we were happy to find that in only a couple of instances did service show some inexperience or nervousness, but staff were all helpful & friendly. Well done all. Their supervisors were also on hand should a customer wish to comment. Maximum group size said to be 48 places, but would require pre-ordering of food.Check out their website for more details.

We recently visited Avenue 141 for the fourth time and again - we were not disappointed. Apart from one other restaurant in Fareham it is proving difficult to find anywhere better. The students are all very professional and enthusiastic and the food is scrumptious! If you can get over the fact that they are in training it makes for a very enjoyable (and cheap!) night out. We will definitely be going back and would recommend to anyone to try.

There really should be two separate college restaurants listed as lunch is apparently prepared and run by first/second year students and the evening by third years. We had lunch recently and the problem with writing a review is that we naturally make allowances for the fact that these young people are inexperienced and learning, which of course we knew before we went and is the reason for running the restaurant. To be fair this review compares with experience at a professional restaurant as Trip Advisor is a comparison site. The menu was good and the staff welcoming, willing and helpful but lack skills and experience eg ladies were not served first and a little clumsy with siver service.. Presentation of food was excellent. Some was overcooked eg risotto was stodgy and liver dry. A couple of substituted ingredients were not advised eg double cream for clotted cream and raspberries for strawberries.Would we go again? Probably because we support what is being done. And in the evening as a comparator.

For a typical local GreenKing pub the meal we have just had truly merits the five stars. The service was prompt and friendly. The food including a roast dinner was excellent. Especially good is the gammon steak which is always melt in the mouth juicy and tender.

Lovely looking pub was looking forward to Sunday roast given all the rave reviews. I ordered the beef and really wish I hadn't completely inedible. Even my non fussy husband had a go as he felt a bit embarrassed with me not eating it but even he couldn't eat it. This must be the worst beef I have ever eaten or attempted too couldn't even cut it with a knife it was that tough. As previous poster mentioned the waitress was not pleasant and seemed to have a sour undertone. She must be fun to work with! Obviously won't be going back.
