The Buccaneer in Fareham

Four of us went to have dinner before going to the theatre but due to us having a rather late breakfast (I guess I should rename it lunch!) when we got to The Buccaneer we were still rather full. However, the fresh salad bar is a winner in this sort of situation and very tempting - so that's we had. Us two ladies found enough room to have the sponge pudding and custard ...... BEAUTIFUL ...... so light and fluffy. The staff were all very helpful and jolly with it and we'll definitely go back again as this venue is easily going to replace the other eatery up the road a bit more that we used to go to but have given up on as it has 'gone down hill' quite a lot! Excellent value for money with a good extensive menu. All the food we saw appearing at various tables made us wish we'd had 'breakfast' earlier ..... or not at all !! Another PLUS POINT for us is that they do NOT serve halal here.

Michelle was very attentive and provided amazing service. She was brilliant for the large table.

First time back here for many years and I was very impressed. We were seated in a small annex at the back of the restaurant so it was nice and quiet. The food and drink were all good and we were very well looked after by our server Maddy. We will definitely return soon as this is an easy walk from home meaning no need for the car! I would particularly recommend the Dirty Burger which was superb mostly because of the lovely dill pickles.

Maddy was lovely, she was very friendly and helpful.

Maddy was a great laugh and offered great service, people like Maddy make the world a nicer place. Keep up the good work Maddy, old bastards like me will keep coming back.

Please improve on the potato salad! It was hard and not cooked properly. Plus the dressing was tasteless. Another disappointing visit today. The usual hard potato salad, no pineapple and no blue cheese sauce. Not sure I’ll go again.

Great place to eat with family and friends

Went for a family meal to this restaurant; hadn’t been in about a year. New menu since we last came which didn’t disappoint. Food was absolutely delicious and service was amazing. Service has always been great at this restaurant whenever we’ve been. Kids were given crayons to do drawing and entertain themselves as soon as we sat down. Great value for money with nice ambiance. Will most certainly will return again sooner. Our waitress was great but cannot remember her name and it wasn’t shown on our receipt.

Catilyn was our server she was very good attentive but not intrusive. Good size portions, worth the money would come again

Great and quick service from Christina, very patient with our dithering order. Venue was tidy and organised. Food was delicious, just wish there was some more pasta choices on the salad bar, and some cheese. This is our go to place when we visit family in the area.

We moved from London to Fareham and this Harvester beats Bushey by far. The food is on point each time, the staff give a personal service, all the staff in Fareham are Fab but if I had to name a few, Maddy, Kasia & Christina. I understand my chef tonight is called Kalvien. I bring all my family here when they visit, we get giftccards at Xmas and visit each festive season. Defo visit here if u are hungry and in the area xx

Food wasn't all that good, chicken tasted like it had been there all day, dry as anything.

Chicken stack was quite spicy, and my husbands sundae had almost melted as we were left to wait nearly 30 mins for puds. But our grandchildren loved it all

A new menu meant there was no gluten free option, even a vegetarian choice was not available as any plain fish had been removed. A change of oil means you can't even have the fries for one of our dinner's. Then we were told that there was not chicken available. The waitress was lovely and rather embarrassed by this changed menu. We didn't stay and are unlikely to return, it was at the time our first choice establishment when my Mother came to visit

Food was awful nothing available left most of it as un edible basically the most expensive salad bar ever and that was mostly empty a real shame

Everything was good, just when you pay to go large on chips recieved a standard portion compared to what I've recieved at other harvester branches. Otherwise it was quick service and tasty.

Pleasant enough . However this is the 3rd occasion I have put a special seating request and it hadn't been dealt with .We have a severely disabled relative that we like to take out. So every time I ask for seating to suit them and near the salad bar. The first time we got put in a booth. And it was painful for him to have to try to shuffle along the bench seat. 2nd visit we had been put down some steps but they managed to move us then and this time as his health has deteriorated we were taking him in a wheel chair so I had asked for a table to accommodate the wheelchair. Based on past experiences I thought I just better ring . When I did he said oh it's a good job you rang as I hadn't seen the request I shall move your table ... I had the big shorty it only had neat on the top so don't waste 17 quid on this other than that it was ok

Served by the lovely Anne. She was very attentive to us without interrupting our breakfast. Very considerate of dietary requirements which was a massive benefit as this can be an awkward conversation. Thank you.

We phoned ahead and were welcomed with a smile for an enjoyable meal out with friends and the dogs. Food was really tasty with generous portions. Service excellent with a good number of staff to make our treat really special. Cannot fault the whole experience. Thank you very much indeed. ;-)

Really nice dinner, I had the Signature Half Rotisserie Chicken. As I needed to swap the chips & corn bread to healthier option, Christina kindly helped me out by listing the available options & made it really easy to adapt the meal to suit me. I will definitely go back again soon.

Terrible experience ordering through the app with delivery by Deliveroo. £80+ order, delivery driver turns up with 3x salads. At this point it's a bit of a laugh and a joke. He calls his helpline who tell us there's nothing they can do as the order is complete and we've given him the code - not the case and the order isn't complete because most of the order isn't here! Driver says he'll go back and get it sorted - nice bloke we think, we'll give him a tenner tip when he comes back. We call the restaurant to make sure it'll all get sorted - they don't pick up for at least 20mins. Finally get through as driver hasn't returned with the order. They tell us he's been back explained the situation and refused to come back. They are waiting on another driver. An hour and 40mins after placing our order a cycle delivery guy turns up. Food cold and can't be eaten, still items missing. Spend 40mins on phone to customer service to get a refund that will take 7-10 days to be credited back. Not worth the hassle.

Went suday around 5.30 pm was greeted at the door and shown to out table ,our server was very polite ,sorted out our drinks and took our food orders,when the food arrived it was nicely presented and hot ,meal was very tasty and all of our group enjoyed their meals all round was a very nice meal out and look forward to returning soon

Im pretty dubious of Harvester at the best of times. Only popped in as the only place open for breakfast. The gentleman who I can only assume is the manager on shift left us waiting at the front door for 5 minutes while he munched down on his own food on the restaurant floor. He then proceeded to serve other customers their food while chewing a mouthful of hid own. Even in a harvester, surely this isn't acceptable? The waitress was extremely monotone and lacked any kind of enthusiasm for her job. When our breakfast came out the toast appeared to have been, at best, waved past a toaster, with bacon arriving cold. All round just need to do better. Ps. I am writing this review while we have been waiting 10 minutes for the bill.

We recently had a family meal here with 5 adults and 2 children. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the service was quick, the food was good and very reasonably priced.

Today was not a good day for the Harvester. Food was sat on the pass for so long that the eggs, beans, mushroom and toast were stone cold. Violet was trying her best, but she was on her own with lots of people ordering breakfast. She did what she could in the situation.

Michelle was great, friendly waitress, really professional and overall fantastic visit all round can’t fault Michelle. Thank you for the service.

As always its a pleasure to eat here. Being a smaller size unit you can pay attention to the finer detail. Customer service, speed of service etc. I ate once at a larger outlet and it was dire. To much for the galley to take.

Everything was perfect, staff were very attentive and welcoming. The food was cooked perfectly. We even booked for Christmas Day dinner while we were there because of this visit.

Just been to have a meal with family and friends for a belated birthday meal. Seated right away, not rushed to order. Everyone happy with their mains, desserts and drinks. Very friendly and helpful waitress. Will come again! 10/10. 👍🏻😋

Excellent service given by Violet. Keen to make sure non of our party had any food allergies. Pleasant personality and very polite. Food good as always. Love the salad bar. Violet picked up on the fact one of our party was celebrating her birthday and brought out her dessert with a candle for us to sing happy to her. A lovely afternoon.

Wonderful Harvester! Best in the land!

The Buccaneer has a great atmosphere and lots of great dishes on the menu. It was my friends first visit and he was impressed too. I have visited before and have become hooked on the 83 Combo dish. The ribs were lovely and meaty and the chicken was succulent. All served with nice chips and corn on the cob. I have found another new favourite and that is the Caramel Crave! I loved it! I will be back for more soon. The waitress was lovely and friendly and very helpful too.

Good selection of reasonably priced food including vegan option and of course the excellent salad bar included in the main meal price. Very Friendly, hard working and helpful staff.

We have come from Northampton on a visit, and decided to have a dinner at the Harvesters. It Was really nice with all food to spec. Thanks to Christiana who looked after my little girl so well with her chair already set up on the table before we arrived. We will definitely recommend and return some other time.

We had a bad experience last night here. 1 the drinks to an age and we were asked twice what our drinks order was. 2. The Salad bowl I was offered was filthy with food particles on it. 3. After waiting over 20 mins for food. We were then told there were on Jacket Potatoes. ( Other tables were told the same) The bar staff suggested chips. But we didn't want chips. 4. I asked to speak to the manager to suggest some form of complimentary item for our inconvenence The manager said no he was just sorry. I said that sorry was not acceptable under the circumstances. The manager did not handle the situation well. He did , in the end offer a full refund. Had he suggested a complimentary desert then we would have been content. But his poor customer care attitude left us feeling highly disappointed w ith Harvester. Not to return.

Nice cooked breakfast nice and hot.

The attention to detail was severely lacking. The staff are not given help or support especially in busy times. The food was left on the pass and arrived dried up and shrivelled. The sweet potato fries were burnt and inedible. Our waitress tried hard but seemed inattentive and seemed overwhelmed with the amount of work. Therefore customers and waiting on food took far longer than it should. It was a disappointing meal and the waitress expressed disappointment that there was no tip. All in all it was a very expensive meal that did not match the quality the price promised. Also the toilets are disgusting and need a jolly good clean.

All good. We had Salmon, a delicious mash potato and ratatouille. Sounds different, but it was perfect for lunch.

It had been a while since l last ate there shall be a long time before l return. Standards have dropped in all aspects of this place. Food pretty average, service lacking in attention, forgot to bring chips along with the main course. Sorry very disappointed.

Worst visit we've had here, booked for my birthday meal as kids were treating me. Lady showed us to table was very polite. We ordered food, got salad bowls but most of it was either empty or not looking great also spilt food on counters, I know it was busy but come on it was 6pm. Our food came out, daughter wouldn't eat the veg sticks as these were dry and cracked. Sons burger was good. My triple chicken the cajun was good, southern fried was tiny and drumstick/thigh was dry over cooked and also tiny. Our waitress was no where to be seen untill our plates were collected. Puddings were best part of the evening out. Didn't leave a tip Katie didn't deserve one. Cery disappointed as put a complaint in when home and just got an automated reply saying we will check on training. Nothing since then and this visit was on the 4th July. Will nor waste my time here again, very disappointed

Yes, perfectly good. Don't go for the "english pub" experience. Do go for a reasonable price, perfectly fine food (tho didn't eat here) and an ok pint.

Have visited this place a few times in the past. First time we have been here this year. Was pretty surprised to see the price of the steaks, cheapest being £18 and that doesn't include a choice of sauce-that's £1.99 extra?? It was served medium like I asked but was completely tasteless. No taste apart from the charcoal grill on the outside of the steak. Rest of the food was luke warm. Certainly not worth the price of it. My partner had a burger and wasn't really impressed either. I'm not one to complain in house as I know chefs have a stressful time in the kitchen. Maybe the quality of meat has gone downhill recently yet the prices have increased? The peas tasted funny like they had been reheated, not fresh? For nearly twenty quid i was very disappointed so made sure I finished it all to get my moneys worth! Service was very good though, had a seat straight away without a booking, waitress was very polite and cheerful. But wouldn't risk coming back here with what it costs now. The bavette steaks I normally buy from morrisons have more taste than what i got tonight. And I see the other reviews that mention steak all have a negative review-maybe this needs to be looked at. What a shame!

Lovely breakfast , had the breakfast rolls with eggs and hash browns and the pancakes with banana and berries. Really lovely food . Anne our waitress was brilliant, very attentive and aware of our needs. Will definitely go back.
