Took friends for a first time visit, they were suitably impressed. Nice airy surroundings, friendly staff and good choice from breakfast and lunch menus. Orders taken at till then table served, we didn't have to wait too long and the servings were generous and tasty, of particular note were the 'homemade' chips. The prices were very reasonable and we'll definitely be visiting again.

Called in for a quick bite to eat. Tables weren’t cleared, or being cleared. Ordered 2 cheese and onion toasted, portion of chips and 2 lattes. Toasties arrived before drinks or cutlery, was told chips and drinks would be a few minutes, nearly 10 minutes later and asking a server, they finally arrived. Food was ok. Upon watching and listening, confusion seemed to be the main theme.

Lovely cafe. We stopped by to have a look at the garden centre and noticed the cafe, so we decided to go in and have lunch. My husband had an English breakfast and I had a panini. I was surprised at how much food there was and how lovely it was. We will definitely be coming back. From what I saw in the garden centre, the plants are reasonably priced, uncommon for a lot of garden centres I have visited before.

Not a lot to eat for someone on a plant based diet as when I asked even the Vegetable broth had butter in it. So the only thing on the menu that was 100% plant based was the good old Jacket Potato and beans which was a bit poor but it filled a gap. They did have Soy Milk though so I could have a white coffee which was nice. When she delivered the meal to our table the very polite lady did tell us that the other eating place on site is in the process of developing some vegan choices for its menu, but unfortunately it was closed on the day we were there.

Wanted to go somewhere different for a coffee and as we had never visited here thought we'd give it a try. The car park was very busy so to me that must be a good sign of popularity. When we got inside the cafe, tables nicely spaced apart and it was lovely and bright in there. We found a table, and as per the car park it was busy inside, there were even a couple of reserved tables so that's good to know they accept reservations. My son wanted a breakfast and i opted for a chocolate flapjack (which you could tell was not out of a packet), there were a good selection of cakes, and whilst i did not take a close look at the menu it did seem to have a decent selection. My latte was piping hot and my sons breakfast was cooked fresh and there was a nice full plate. Would definitely return some time, also the staff were very good

Food ok but lady who runs kitchen not customer friendly as even wanted to charge for a spoonful of gravy! Asked for gravy on a slice of pie (although the serving 'jug' comes on the side there was only a dribble in it even though had asked at the till before ordering if it came with plenty of gravy and asked if it could! I had been told it did and would be no problem) When food came there was a tiny amount in the jug so explained to waitress what I had been told at the till. The waitress looked nervous and said the kitchen charged for more than was in the jug but she could go and ask her if I really wanted. Felt sorry for her so ate the food as dry as it was. Really! Charge extra for such a minuscule thing! Not good customer service on the part of the kitchen. I could understand if it was something relatively expensive, but gravy! This is not the first time there has been dealings with the 'kitchen' as she once argued she was right even when she had sent out a wrong order to me. It took a till receipt to prove it to her. So rude! Customer service training required in my opinion. Waitresses at the front of shop are lovely and friendly though. Would give them five stars!

Having visited the cafe at least a dozen times over the past three years or so for lunch or morning coffee/snack and having generally enjoyed the food and found the service good with friendly staff, my opinion changed on the last Sunday in November. The garden centre and cafe advertise, open until 4.00pm. We arrived in the cafe at 3.25pm and ordered tea and coffee and asked for two ham sandwiches (after bacon batches were refused). The kitchen staff could not be bothered to make the sandwiches claiming 'too close to closing time'. Most other cafes are more accommodating. This is poor service indeed and although I was polite to the serving staff, it made me feel quite angry.

It was very run of the mill and the sausage were far too large and over facing, I saw on most plates that were left on tables that the sausages were left/hardly touched. Me and the family went. Ordered chicken and bacon panini, grey coloured bacon to start off with. Overly expensive chicken barm at £4.30.. just for a barm, no salad or chips on the side and a few measly pieces of chicken. Table service was awful, asked a waiter to clean the table as there was still crumbs and stains on from previous people sat there. The guy just came with a wet cloth and did a one second wipe, hardly cleaning any of the mess! Waitress had forgotten my mother in laws coffee so we had to ask for it to be brought over after she had finished her meal. Last Sunday I visited with my daughter and family, I have been before and never had a problem so It was on my recommendation we went there. It was extremely busy so when we went to the counter to put our order in the staff said we were looking at over 40 minutes wait for hot food. As we had my young grandson there we knew he would get unsettled waiting so we opted for all of us to have a coffee and scone. This came after about 10 minutes, which was fine. However, we all made comment to how the the scones were not as they should be, and I have had them many times before, my daughter, who I might add is a restaurant manager, said there wasn't enough fat in them and thus they had a biscuit texture, so as soon as they were cut they just crumbled, it was very very difficult to put the butter on. My daughter mentioned this to one of the staff as she was passing, and we all said they were not of the usual standard. The staff member said she would go and see the person who had made them. This she did, and returned and said they had been made with the same recipe as before and no one else had complained. The staff member said she was sorry but she could not do anything about it. I think she could have done something about it. If a customer complains, the first thing that should have been done, was a) ask if the customer would like something else instead, and b) if not they should have been given the money back for the scone. It is totally unsatisfactory to say there is nothing that could be done. I won't go back there or recommend it now and it is a shame because the food and staff are usually ok. I don't know if there was a manager in or the manager was the one who said the scones were the same. Customer Service course might be a good idea.

We took the grandchildren here as there is a small soft play area and found that the prices in the café very over the top. £3.25 for a scone with jam and cream is a tad too high. The children wanted Wotsits at £1 a packet, Dairy Lea Dunkers at £2,35 each and £2 for a "giant" custard cream biscuit. The small bottles of childrens drinks were also over priced. The staff however are very nice. I think a change of tables would be advisable bearing in mind that lots of children visit here to ones with rounded edges rather than the sharp cornered ones that are just at eye level for toddlers.

Pleasant surroundings and a decent enough menu. I've never eaten a main meal here so can't really comment on portion size for those, but having ordered a chicken wrap with chips and salad I would say the emphasis was on the salad. There wasn't a very substantial filling in the wrap and the portion of chips was on the small side albeit being a good flavour. It was advertised on their specials board and I would say there wasn't anything particularly 'special' about it. The roast beef offering was already unavailable at 12:15 which was also a bit of a surprise. Maybe they should look at providing a bit more value for money.

We called in here for a quick bite to eat.It wasn't overly busy, but the food seemed to take an age to arrive. My OH ordered the food, he asked for a sausage barm and a ham toastie. His sausage barm was bitterly disappointing; the skinniest, most feeble looking sausages, cut in half and slapped on a barm.We had both assumed when ordering the toastie, that cheese came as standard, isn't that what a toastie is about? Apparently not when you order here. I got ham on toast.A further inspection of the menu said that you have to choose TWO items off the menu, one of which being cheese. As I'd only asked for a ham toastie, that was all I got. I was just glad it was served with coleslaw and salad to add a bit of moisture to it.We debated what I would have got if I'd asked for the red onion toastie....onions on toast? Surely kitchen staff know that toasties need cheese? Whilst I accept that they made me what I asked for, I think maybe the staff should confirm at the till whether or not people want cheese. For what we got, it was expensive and we wished we'd gone somewhere else.

We visited the Avant Cafe this morning for the first time. I ordered a bacon butty and asked if they could cut the fat from the bacon, to which the very friendly waitress at the counter replied that it wouldn't be a problem. The reason I asked is because my husband is disabled, he's had his fingers partially amputated, he finds it difficult to remove the fat from bacon and doesn't like me to cut the fat off for him in public, because he finds it embarrassing. I didn't explain the reason why to the waitress, I didn't feel it was an imposition to ask for something so trivial. A different waitress bought our food to us and as she did so, she whispered in my ear that they cut the fat off this time, because the restaurant wasn't busy, but it's not something they usually do and I shouldn't expect it again. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! What an absolutely terrible terrible attitude! It takes all of 20 seconds to cut the fat off bacon. I would have challenged the waitress there and then, but my husband didn't want a scene, he was embarrassed by what she'd said. I couldn't eat up fast enough and couldn't get out quick enough. They obviously don't want our custom and they won't be getting it again.

Service left a lot to be desired, whilst no one was rude, no one seemed to know what they were doing & there didn't appear to be a manager. Place was quiet and yet basic stuff was not done, no one informed us certain things has sold out so upon ordering people had to change their minds, no cutlery was brought over despite us ordering food, when we asked cutlery came but no spoons even though 2 of us had soup so had to ask again.Mixed reviews about the food, full breakfast & soup very nice, sandwiches poorly presented on cheap bread, pie of the day was awful, very dry, no filling & no flavour.Cakes were all very good though.

Went with family. We all enjoyed looking at the art displayed on the walls whilst waiting for our meals. Pleased to see mature, experienced staff who were delightful...

Very disappointing. We called in for coffee and a cake; the coffee was hot and brown, but completely without flavour. My scone was completely inedible - dry, again without taste and so crumbly that it was impossible to butter. My wife had a slice of carrot cake that was so sweet as to be inedible, and we ended up leaving the whole lot. All a matter of taste? - there was either too much taste or not enough! Although we have visited on a number of previous occasions, we won't be going back again. Toilets were good though!

Absolutely LOVE this place. I love coming here with relatives or friends - a great place to natter over scrummy cakes and then pick up a few things for the garden and home. If you haven't been, do go - it is a gem of a place where the food and service are first class.

They make v good jackets with prawns, portion of prawns could do to be bigger( as they used to be!!) but well presented and tasted as it should. Friend had panini and chips and stated all good. Excellent cappochinos here to. Nice garden centre with very healthy plants and excellent gift shop

On arriving here with my friend today we went in the cafe for lunch and there was a reasonable choice in the menu, our drinks were served straight away and our food was very nice, staff were very friendly and it was lovely to browse round the garden centre after lunch, will definitely visit again!!!!

This place, lets remember is a cafe within a garden centre, and can be a busy one at that. - family owned and run, and has come a long way from where it was 10 or so years ago.the cafe is a great addition, it sometimes depending whom is on and whom is serving can be a slightly clunky expereince, but most times its great, friendly, warm and just cosy. granted as a 35 year old i may well have been the youngest in there, but it didnt matter as i wasnt going in their to pull.all staff in the garden centre are really good as well by the way, this is just a nice way for you to have a wander and a coffee before or going or for you to think about whether you should buy all those plants or not.. i liked it... - everything seemed either fresh or home/local made

I have visited this cafe on many occasions with family and always thought it was quite nice with good food. However on recent visits we have noticed the food quality has become poor. I visited today with my mum and grandma and was so disappointed and felt very uncomfortable. The cafe had a new a employee a young man with dark hair who was polite and trying his best. We witnessed staff out the kitchen and on the front being very rude to him it was awful to watch. Every body has to learn and bullying someone who is doing there best to learn is a disgrace!!!! The food was awful and my panni was left it was burnt! Not impressed atal and would not reccomend to others!!

Good idea to have a restaurant and art gallery combined in a very good garden centre. We have had a decent reasonably priced lunch here in the past but on this occasion called in to have morning coffee and toast and take a look at the art work before buying new plants for the garden. We ordered coffee and a pot of tea with toast but had to wait whilst orders for breakfast were served. The toast was delivered first and then a wait for the drinks to be made. Not bad service really just a lack of coordination which can easily be corrected. The layout of having the dining tables alongside the art work is most disconcerting it being difficult to study the paintings looking through people eating their meals, without appearing rude.

We visit Cafe Gallery regularly, it's always excellent food, but this was the first time one of us had a breakfast and it was cooked absolutely perfect. Lovely staff, spotlessly clean cafe and kitchen as you can see inside it. Scones which my partner had, gorgeous. A must to visit.

I visited the Avant Cafe for the first time today, with two other family members. I ordered the roast beef dinner - with all the trimmings (so it claimed) at £7.99. When it arrived there were boiled carrots, roast potatoes, tinned garden peas, a soggy Yorkshire pud and what looked like unifomly sliced beef of the 'boil in a bag' variety, topped off with gravy. This was all presented on a medium sized oval plate. The so called roast potatoes were totally soggy as though they had been left to soak in water and heated several times. So too were the carrots which just mushed up and were tasteless. The consistency was of the boil in a bag variety that had been warmed up several times. I complained to the waitress who came to collect the plates, as this was the only contact with us. She said nothing! No one came out from the kitchen to apologise for such a poor excuse for a Sunday meal. What made things worse was that my mother seemed to have freshly boiled potatoes with her quiche meal and salad, none of which were to be seen on my plate. The prices here do not reflect good value as there are many better venues to dine at within the locality and far better food. Sadly I will never return to this place as it was the worst excuse for a meal that I have come across. There was no customer facing representation from anyone. Avoid this place unless you like terrible meals prepared by incompetent kitchen staff.

We popped in for a quick look around and decided to get some tea and cake. The service was good and the girls are friendly and efficient. The cakes were ok, nothing spectacular, mine was a little dry and my daughters "look better than it tasted" but for a quick refreshing break whilst shopping its acceptable I wouldn't go out of my way to visit though.

We've been visiting here for around 10 years now and feel it was better before the new build a few years back. The breakfasts used to be awesome and the children used to be well catered for, but amazingly now they don't even have a children's menu - yet I always see plenty of kids when I'm in. The young staff were not particularly helpful when we visited last Sunday, we asked for a child's portion of 2 different menu items but were told 'No, we can't do that....' Bring back those lovely ladies, who were friendly and chatty on a Sunday morning, oh and the children's menu of course!

Stayed here whilst we went to a wedding close by at the medieval hall nearby. The check in was swift and easy. Bed was very nice and comfortable. The highlight for us was the all you can eat breakfast next morning. You could have cereal or full English breakfast all very nice.
