Went with a group of friends to Ashby's as in the area playing golf. Saw reviews and menu on line, messaged ahead and table was reserved for us. Large free car park round the corner. Nice welcome by friendly staff, cafe quite busy so pleased table was waiting for us. Good selection of breakfast choice on the menu, all went for Full English which was very tasty. Reasonably priced cafe. Will certainly be returning if in the area again.

Stopped in for a lovely lunch on our way east. I tried the special which was a delicious chicken wrap, lightly spiced, well toasted and garnished with a tasty salad. Really enjoyed the coffee too, so pop in a grab a cup of joe if you’re passing! Slightly envious of all the framed ticket stubs in the rest room - some amazing gigs the owner has been to!

It was a cold wet Saturday morning in Slaithwaite and I was suffering from a killer hangover. I lay, fully clothed and still in last nights trainers under my hungarian goose Feather quilt. I could barely move. As I wallowed in self pity I could hear the rumble of my stomach like an old tumble dryer in a small, silent house. I was afraid. I patiently waited for my inevitable death watching the hands on the clock, the seconds feeling like minutes, the minutes feeling like hours and no rescue in sight. As the hours passed by the sun moved West. light made it's way through a crack in the curtain and beamed on my flesh, Jesus was coming. As I reached full stretch for the last remaining droplets of water from a bottle of strawberry volvic there was BANG followed by a scream, then deafening silence. I had fallen out of bed, I had fallen from the beam of light that was inevitably going to guide me up to the Lord and forgive me of my sins. Mustering the courage to lift my head, I gazed confusingly at the bedroom clock; both hands pointing to the Lord. It was mid day. I lay face down on the floor, a shell of the man I once was. I reflected on the victories of my short life and lay faceplanted in regret of the wrongdoing I have caused this world. The stomach rumbled on.... As saliva seeped from the corner of my mouth I drew breath and fought against the tide with all my strength entering the fetal position. I rolled down the stairs to the front door, reaching for the keys. I opened the front door and was immediately hit by the fierce Yorkshire wind. I rolled down the street before smashing into a dry stone wall. Using my arms I fought against the wind and the odds, lifting myself to my feet. I removed a patch of wet grass from my forehead and staggered down to the village before falling face first into the wonderful grey door of Ashbys Deli Cafe. I was safe. Stood before me at the entrance was a beautiful brunette with the stunning pearly white smile of a Hollywood actress. As I fought back the emotions of love I wiped the remaining saliva from my chin. She sat me down. A caring and younger blonde lady approached me and took my drinks order. I had an orange juice, an apple juice and a San pelligrino lemon (or a Tory Fanta as I like to call it). The drinks came swiftly and as I inhaled the fresh juices I began to feel the flowers of my digestive system blossoming once more. I was alive! The menu was varied. My eyes rolled from side to side as I weaved from breakfast, to paninis, burgers and everything else. I contemplated... The lady approached. I stayed loyal to my Ashbys tradition and went with the hot beef sop. The stomach rumbled. My eyes followed these glamorous ladies around the room as they danced from table to table providing a seamless service to all clients in the most elegant and effortless way. I checked my pulse. The young blonde lady disappeared, I could feel the blood in my viens. This is the moment. This has to be the moment.... My legs tensed. She reappeared from the kitchen, plate in hand and made her way towards me. As my smile began to curl she placed a hot plate on my table. Behold, a hot roast beef an onion gravy butty on a large granary muffin. A side of the biggest, crispy wedges and a seperate jug of onion gravy. I pinched myself. "have I entered through the gates of heaven?" I asked. The young girl placed her hand on my shoulder and offered me both reassurance and condiments. I reached for the knife and fork. Using the knife like a paperweight I stabbed my fork into the muffin and ripped part of the sandwich away before scooping up and placing into my mouth. I sat alone, close to orgasm as I shook in my chair, rattling the table as the couple across the room gazed over in concerning fashion. I glanced at the wedges and immediately knew my process. I was going to demolish these elegantly in fondue style. I gripped one of the wedges with my hand and dipped it fully into the side jug of gravy, I bit the dipped side and ripped away. The crisp of the skin on wedges, the soft fluffy potato inside and worlds best gravy created an explosion of both flavour and happiness. I exhaled. This excellent creation before me, I continued this onslaught until the plate was clean. I rose from my chair, looked into the beautiful eyes of the checkout girl as I paid contactless with my Nationwide visa. I thanked them for their sterling efforts and confirmed that I would be back. I felt untouchable in this morning. For I had died but through the power of Ashbys Deli Cafe against all odds I had risen and I will come again.

I ordered a breakfast and she said “ we stop doing breakfast at 12.. I looked at the time it was 1203. I asked politely if it was possible.. “ not a chance “ was her reply. I got a sandwich and I’ve never been back since. What type of venue turns money away? A little tin pot hitler indeed.

It was busy, but I don’t think it should take over 45 minutes to serve up a full english, and a sausage and egg sandwich. Wouldn’t have minded if both weren’t entirely average when they arrived - but sadly the bacon looked like it was processed and was quite tasteless, as were the sausages. We could see that the bread was bought from the adjacent Aldi so the precedent for anything else being bought there is set. Maybe not. Won’t be back though. We got an apology for the wait when paying, but it would’ve been better coming whilst we were waiting, with maybe an offer to take a second drinks order - but neither came.

While this so-called “Deli café” appears to be a sign of gentrification in Slaithwaite, it is actually more of an extension of Ashby’s fried-chicken shack next door, with a pretty bog-standard menu, and not a “deli” at all. Since it advertises as much, I thought I might be able to get a decent cup of coffee here, but I was wrong. Sadly, there was absolutely nothing on the menu which sounded even slightly attractive, but having struggled to get in to the place, I ordered an Americano and a pre-packaged flapjack, having to go to the counter to be served. When the Americano arrived at my table, it had not a trace of crema, and the cup was in fact so over-filled with water that the waitress, navigating the café’s cramped interior, spilled it, both into the saucer, and onto the table. No plate for the flapjack, no replacement saucer, no wiping of the table. I had initially thought that our young waitress was perhaps just a part-timer, working a Saturday shift, but the mere suggestion angered the owner, who insists that all his staff are equally capable, so this sort of service is clearly par for the course in this establishment. The coffee tasted like brown water, one of the worst I’ve had anywhere. The flapjack was quite nice, but it was bought-in, probably a good choice.

I winced slightly when I spotted this 'Deli Cafe' in increasingly gentrified Slaithwaite, but it advertised a 'Bean Brothers' coffee, which I thought would be decent. Inside, it's a little more ordinary than the exterior suggests, seemed pleasant enough. Coffee was disappointing unfortunately, since the cup holding my Americano had been overfilled with water, so much so that the waitress spilled it. It made for a rather watery coffee. It was the weekend, so maybe the waitresses were Saturday staff. I had a cake, which was quite nice. Lock on the toilet door appeared not to function, maybe there is a knack to it.

We visited Ashby's in Slaithwaite having seen the good reviews on TripAdvisor. Our visit was an enjoyable one - it's a nice, quite trendy place to sit in, coffee was very good and breakfast was delicious. There was a good choice of food available and prices seemed very reasonable, too. Haven't been able to give an 'excellent' rating because it did feel a bit cramped (had to move our chair a few times for staff to get to other tables) and the service, although courteous, wasn't as friendly and welcoming as we've received elsewhere (although we do appreciate they were quite busy). Minor things, really - we would return because the coffee and food was very good.

This was a one off visit. My first and last EVER. Will not recommend this place to anyone. Sticky and wobbly tables, filthy floors, dusty shelves, dirty toilet and hand washing facilities for the customers, no toilet roll or handwash, towels to dry hands on STUNK!! Rude staff, overpriced food, looked OK from the outside but the whole place and visit was a disaster. How Ashbys has not been shut down by environmental health yet, I don't know. Shouting and swearing coming from the kitchen. Staff licking their fingers after preparing food. Touching spray bottles and chemicals then serving food to customers. Vile. If they let the customers sit in filth one side I dread to think what their kitchen facilities are like. I had already had a coffee at this point, in a dirty cup but was definitely not staying for food. Looks like the manager of this place needs to have a big shake up and get some manners and customer service skills of his own. Can't even leave one nice thing to say about this place, apart from the light fittings, they were nice, if they had light bulbs that worked!! Shape up Ashbys SHAPE UP!!

Had a fantastic breakfast at this really nice cafe. When we arrived we the waitress informed us there was a wait due to takeaway orders this was not a problem it still did not take that long. It was worth the wait food was amazing my husband says the best he has ever had.The staff where all very friendly I hope we are in the area again to try lunch. Also excellent value

Good food, the quality of produce is great. They seem to have become more expensive lately. We go here for take out food as well as sitting in, with the take out option the staff have forgotten items before due to it being a few different things!

Stopped for a coffee and ended up with a burger - absolutely superb and puts the Chains to shame. Service was good and very friendly plus the overall atmosphere very pleasant. Superb menu from which to choose. Cakes looked wonderful - but I managed top resist :-(And not to disappoint... the double espressos were lovely.Prices are very reasonable...

After a lovely canal walk, this is the perfect place to stop and have a coffee and bite to eat. Have visited a few times now and each time the staff have been very friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble! The breakfasts (which I'm working my way through) have always been spot on, would definitely recommend!

Pleasant little place, right in the heart of the lovely village of Slaithwaite.Slaithwaite is a quaint little village on the outskirts of the town of Huddersfield. Surrounded by lush greenery and fields a-plenty. Visiting Slaithwaite is a must if you are looking for a nice country drive, with its attractive country pubs and cafes. Beautiful walks along the scenic canals and public footpaths through various pretty fields. Ashby's Deli Café sits along the main road into Slaithwaite, blink and you'll have missed it! But it certainly isn't one to be missed. It has lovely stylish industrial dècor that has been executed to perfection. The walls are adorned with fascinating wallpaper and furnishings that are a treat for the eyes. The only things that stops this being a 5* rating is the smelly toilet facilities that aren't too well cared for and in hot weather this was a bit off putting whilst trying to enjoy lunch. The service let them down a little as the girl seem harassed and brought the wrong hot drinks and we ended up being charged twice (which was later corrected though.) If you are looking for a proper full English breakfast, sadly this isn't your place. As it's quite a fancy presentation and it lacks the necessary accoutrements to provide a top no help brekkie. There are a few too many small tables squashed together so space is a bit cramped. In hot weather staff should perhaps have a little more down time to take a breather and then they would provide better customer service!! However this would not prevent us from returning as the experience as a whole was a pleasurable one. Well worth a visit and there appeared to be a lot of other delicious looking platters going to other tables so will will definitely be returning to sample something else. The window display in the left window doesn't lend well to what you can expect to have to nosh, if this was improved I'm sure would attract even more customers. We've lived in the area around 5 and a half years and we've only just got round to visiting this place. But we are so glad we did.

This is first time I have visited Ashbys. It looks like a great little deli and cafe. Very popular, and I think that was the problem.I visited on Sunday afternoon, 28/5/17 and was supprised by the choice and wide selection of fresh food on black boards. Seated straight away, which as a solo dinner should be easy. Told menu on way waited over 5 mins but so far I'm in no rush. Had to ask to place order after another 10 mins. Coffee and a lamb burger. 20 mins later burger arrived and looking at the presentation was worth it. I have no problems waiting for hot fresh food. It is Sunday like I said am in no rush. But spot the problem still no coffee. Ok they said sorry yet again which is fine. And fetched a beautiful cup of hot coffee lightening fast. The burger was only just warm not hot. It was such a shame it looked amazing. By this point was starving and fed up. Didn't comment which is the usual English way we just hide behind a review on line. Will I go again yes because I don't believe in unfair reviews and next time I am sure 5 stars will on the cards.

Why has it taken me so long to find this place?! Lived in Linthwaite/Meltham a good 10yrs and visited Ashbys for the first time last week and my only regret is not finding it sooner. A lovely deli/cafe, easy to find, parking spaces in Aldi. There isn't loads of tables so can imagine it would get busy in peak times but it's nicely decorated. The menu is varied and I'm sure there something for everybody average cost of lunch is approx £8 (approx. £5 for meal £2 for coffee/soft drink) whilst slightly on the pricy side for lunch, you certainly get what you pay for as the food is high quality, tasty and they don't skimp on the portion size so well worth it. My only constructive piece of criticism is that a kids menu would be great as even the sausage sandwich my son got was humongous (but very tasty and had I not been on SW, I would have polished it off) but a smaller version of the menu for a discounted price would be good. The service was second to none, really friendly and accommodating.I definitely plan to return again and will be recommending to others.Thank you for a lovely lunch experience.

We've passed by Ashby's a few times and decided to treat ourselves to lunch and wow we weren't disappointed. It's quite unassuming from the street and the range of high quality food (sourced locally), great service and relaxed atmosphere all added to our visit. I had the goats cheese classic and my husband had the Godfather, they were both delicious and the staff couldn't have done more to make us feel really welcome. We will be back! Many thanks to Mike and team.

I've been here a few times now and the food is always spot on...However! The staff need to learn some basic manners, especially the one that served us who looked scruffy and had an attitude problem. This is an expensive SANDWICH shop, which is punching far above its weight especially with the staff they employ.

I visited Ashby's with a friend at the beginning of January. We both had our toddlers with us who required a highchair each. We had all been together a month earlier & we were very impressed with both the service & food. However, this second visit was very much a different story & we were disgusted with how we were treated. The tables usually seat 2 people, so we asked for 2 tables to be put together because there were 4 of us. We did not think this was an unreasonable request, especially since there were other groups of 4 people in the cafe who had 2 tables between them. We were told that we couldn't have 2 tables because that would mean they would lose a table even though we were buying 4 meals. The table we were TOLD to use was pushed against a wall meaning there was only 3 sides of a table for 4 of us. The waitress put 2 high chairs next to one another, one of which was in front of the table, the other was not. There were no tables on the high chair either, meaning that there would have been no way that one of the toddlers could have reached their food. Neither could either me or my friend help feed either of the toddlers because of how the table was set out, so how the toddlers were supposed to eat is beyond me! There wouldn't have even been enough room on the table for 4 plates! The whole time we were there, the waitress was huffing & puffing and clearly not happy at having to sort the table out for us. We were made to feel like an inconvenience, and not like valued customers. The table was also very close to nearby tables so it would have been a squeeze for us to sit there, and not a relaxing lunch. Therefore, we didn't even sit down, we walked out disgusted at the whole thing. We certainly will not be going back ever. There are many other lovely cafe's in Slaithwaite who treat you like valued customers.

The setting of the Lantern Room restaurant at the Manor House is beautiful. We were given the table in the window, perfect for two people. When we were given the menu the staff explained that there were a couple of extras on it at the beginning as amuse bouches. There were three of them and also some wonderful sour dough bread. These were free. The three very different mouthfuls were exquisite, with the blood orange and trout being our favourite. The sable biscuit was so light. We ordered the crab starter and the mackerel and then both had the line caught sea bass for main course. Both starters were intricate and beautiful to look at with the taste being fantastic. The blend of gooseberry, apple and mackerel was amazing. The quality of the line caught sea bass was first class and the chef did not disappoint in the cooking of it. Absolute perfection. Our evening was made special by the wonderful food, atmosphere of the place and the attentiveness of the staff, so big thanks to all concerned.
