Ashbrowns cafe in Scarborough

I stopped here for a coffee and a bacon sandwich whilst waiting for an MOT test nearby. The coffee was fine and was brought to the table quickly the sandwich however was a different story, I had ordered a well done bacon with brown sauce in a white bap not a baguette....I got two slices of dry white savers loaf with two rashers of reheated warm bacon ( only just warm) with Barbecue sauce... Not great but I was hungry. I now know why I was the only one in there, I understand that it has recently changed hands but they need to up their game, I won't be returning.

Read so many positive things... and then more than disappointed! I thought you couldn't go wrong with an English breakfast... but it wasn't tasty at all. Everything from a can and the egg from the microwave. There wasn't even salt or pepper on it. I don't normally write reviews... but all these stars here are incomprehensible to me. Cheap. But I'd rather spend a few pounds more. Employee not very talkative... but at least he gave us a second fork and brought the food to us. Oh yeah.. the hot chocolate wasn't good either. Half cup left standing.

Recently opened under new ownership. This was my first visit to the cafe. The breakfast was excellent and we especially liked the homemade sausages. Told our son about the place and he has been twice in the past few days and he loved it. I hope they owner does well as he is a very good chef. The cafe is in Victoria Road and the meals are not as expensive as other cafes.

Recommended by a lady from Sheffield we met on the beach out walking in Filey. Popped in for the first time and loved it. Very clean, very unpretentious, with an owner who couldn't do enough for us, in fact he was far better than many staff we've been served by in Michelin star restaurants. Super friendly, good food and lots of it and a proper cuppa. Will be back soon. Thank you.

Really friendly staff, polite and helpful nothing was too much trouble, trying to make your dining experience feel as normal as possible in current times. Had a breakfast and it was just lovely, everything cooked perfectly and plenty in the plate and fresh Riva coffee to boot, will definitely be going again a lovely little find

Had been told this was a good place for food. I chose a cheese and tomato sandwich: the bread roll was soft but the cheese was tasteless ( why not use a mature cheddar? It's no dearer?) And the bread was spread with non descript fat. I threw it in the bin. My daughter had a jacket potato with the same tasteless rubber cheese which, again went in the bin. We then went elsewhere for a tastey sandwich.

Best cafe in Scarborough. Full English breakfasts are beautiful. Hopefully Ash will be doing the food for my wedding. Staff are really friendly make you feel welcome.

Excellent, best breakfast in Scarborough

This is not the most salubrious of cafes in that area of Scarborough and is somewhat downmarket. Having said that, what it does, it does very well. The chef behind the counter was pleasant, courteous and helpful and didn’t keep me waiting. I had a fish-finger wrap - 3 fish fingers with nice crisp iceberg lettuce and mayo in a large, soft wrap. It was so nice to have the crispiness of the iceberg lettuce instead of the modern trend towards floppy “leaves”. Well done Ahbrowns. The coffee was a little below par - not as strong as I prefer - but another customer told us 3 times how good she thought her coffee was, so I guess it depends upon personal taste. The menu is not extensive but food is good value

After 17 years of living in Scarborough I've finally found a proper full English breakfast. Freshly cooked and plenty of it for a brilliant price. The guys running the place were spot on. Number one cafe for full English

Had full breakfasts here yesterday. They use meat from the butchers next door and it was well cooked and not greasy. Friendly service and very reasonable...drinks and toast included and they do fried bread in request. Definitely one of the better breakfasts in Scarborough

With the anti social prospect of working a sunny Sunday morning we were eager for a greasy fry up. Food is served fast at a reasonable price and is good quality. Perfect for a bacon bitty breakfast.

Visited here for the first time today as our "usual" sandwich shop had closed down. Firstly, I never knew they did takeaway sandwich orders so very pleased we went in and asked. There were two other "locals" sat down eating and it was evident from conversation they both ate there regularly and the meals they both had look both large and delicious though the three of us only wanted sandwiches. The two staff members were very polite and welcoming and we were offered the "meal deal". This comprised of a sandwich, drink, chocolate bar and packet of crisps. I will not mention the price because we felt we were "UNDERCHARGED" and would happily have spent another £1 on top. Sandwich (cheese and ham x3) were delicious and there is no doubt whatsoever that I/we will be returning both for a main meal and for additional sandwiches. As the title says, it really is an amazing find, genuine and friendly staff and when you find somewhere like this that ticks the boxes and more, it is worth typing a few lines :)

Was taken their for a treat ordered a breakfast that wasn't nice at all I would not go there again.

This little cafe is of the beaten track of the towns central drag just a few yards up from the Police station. I called in for a breakfast by chance as I had missed having some at home earlier that morning. I was very impressed when my breakfast arrived it was just what I needed. Everything cooked perfect & well presentable. I'm not sure how many work in this little place but there was no signs of pressure by any of them as there were a few in the cafe at the time. I could see while I waited that they also do a specials board & I assume this cafe perhaps cooks its own home cooked meals but I will have to call back at some point to try. It just goes to show you don't need an in your face big name show off cafe or restaurant chain you just need to be an honest no frills cafe serving good honest grub & service.

Went for breakfast this morning with the hubby.He ordered beans on toast and egg on toast,I ordered a medium breakfast. After a short while (Due to it being freshly cooked)our food arrived piping hot.My meal was very well presented & bloody gorgeous!Well done also for using delicious local produce!!!Will definitely recommend &also will be back.Well done chaps.

I have been there today ( the 25th of July). Nice place, helpful staff and good food. I have tried there bacon sandwich. Very good prepared, bacon crispy and tasty. Very nice hot drinks are there too. I recomend this cafe to locals and tourists visiting Scarborough

Pasamos unos días en Scarborough, la semana pasada, intentó encontrar un lugar decente para desayunar ya que no estaba incluido en nuestro paquete de alojamiento. No queríamos nada lujoso, solo un sustancioso para comenzar el día. Probamos 3 diferentes sitios en 3 días, pero no nos quedamos realmente impresionados. Es un complejo de vacaciones así que encontramos los precios altos y no demasiado bueno en la calidad de la comida, por desgracia.

Conseguir mi almuerzo aquí casi cada día un constantemente sorprendido de que Ashley mantiene el estándar de la comida presentada a clientes tan alto. Es un lugar sin frivolidades, desayuno día todos muy buena relación calidad-precio e incluso ha sido conocido para cocinar desayunos para otras cafeterías que no toque su nivel. Muy amable, sin pretensiones, probarlo, como puedo recomendar

Had breakfast here a few times now and always get a warm welcome. Fully recommend the breakfast. Will cook to your preference (I have a fussy wife). Also nice atmosphere.

1 el sábado por la mañana fui, conocí a mi amigo para tomar un café, terminamos pidiendo un desayuno completo, era fresco, a pedido, 50 p para morcilla bien merece la pena, 3 libras. 50 + 50 p si quieres morcilla, que también incluye una cerveza o café de cualquier tipo! Mi amigo y yo fuimos a tomar un café y vimos que no desayunos a un precio super plus se podía personalizar y añadir cosas como morcilla, champiñones, etc. además viene con una bebida caliente!

A typical small business English cafe serving breakfast, lunch, snacks and beverages.I had a traditional breakfast which was on £4.75 which also included bread in any form and tea, coffee or juice.Good size, well cooked, very tasty.

There are plenty of places for breakfast in Scarborough but it is well worth the short trip out of the town centre to eat here. Very small but worth the wait for the table. Everything was cooked to order, owner was very friendly and welcoming, prices are also great value. Breakfast was spot on, couldn't fault it.

Popped in to grab a sandwich for lunch and settled for a cheese and tomato toastie to take away. Just lovely, side salad, crisps and amazing homemade Coleslaw! Thank you. I'll be back Ashley.

Really fabulous breakfast. No grease in sight. The owner/cook/waiter was really friendly and helpful. He allowed us to order off menu and cooked everything to perfection! Brilliant little find!

This was really good. Chose this place from a Trip Advisor review and not disappointed. Five of us came for breakfast and it was fab. Really lovely food and good value. A must.

This man is a genius, you can specify how you want certain ingredients cooking, there's no sign of grease as you get with some cafes, the food is always piping hot and all served by a warm welcome by the proprietor......Definitely worth a visit!!!

This is probably the best value " no frills" breakfast in Scarborough.I was in the Victoria Road area and neded a coffee.Called into ashbrowns with no great expectations and decided to have their small breakfast.My order was taken politely - £3.50 for sausage, bacon ,egg and tomatoes.Included coffee ( ok - just filter- non of your cappuccino or latte here ) and toast!It was obviously freshly cooked- unlike the one I had in an expesive, swanky one a couple of weeks ago! Served to the table. Atmosphere a little smokey but a great breakfast.

visited with my partner & son on one occasion in march had the breakfast sharing for £15.00 & it was worth every penny gorgeous tasting food cooked lovely & everything you would want on a breakfast,bacon,egg,sausage,mushrooms,black pudding,beans,tomato,bread & butter,fried bread,toast,hash browns,including tea & coffee or soft drinks,only thing we left was a few tomatoes it was that good,i & partner have visited several times since were that impresssed & recommend to all our friends excellent service lovely clean cafe & manager even advised us on parking so we didnt have to rush & didnt get a parking ticket,oustanding food & value thank you

three of us ate at ash browns today, two of us had beef dinner with veg and another a panini, the cafe was clean but the air was thick with frying fog and smelt like an old greasy spoon, this smell lasted for the rest of the day on our clothes. The food was cheap ready made iceland food and our beef was horrible with seams of fat running through most of it, monster let down for all of us and the person next to us who left the same meal as we had, felt like owners have given up as there were dirty and half finished plates left on other tables, above poor.

Stopped for breakfast before getting the train, asked for 2 coffees and 2 bacon and egg sandwiches. We were asked if we wanted normal or posh coffee, posh coffee was just douwe egberts instant, come on all cafés should be using ground coffee there's no place for instant these days if you can't afford a coffee machine use cafetiere. Now the bacon sandwich was lovely all cooked fresh and 3 rashers of bacon, but this was let down by a very cheap bread bun which was like fresh air and just fell to pieces as you tried to eat the sandwich,causing you to get messy, cheap sauces just buy branded bottles and keep them clean, also cheap napkins one wipe and they were useless. Silly little things that disappoint what would have been a fab breakfast. Would we go again probably not.
