Asda Cafe in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Oh dear... Not one to write reviews but honestly this cafe needs to sharpen up their act! Looonnng wait for a drink with a woman shouting "we've got no bacon left!" To a little old man waiting for his all day breakfast. The people serving (two women) kept wandering in and out of the kitchen and seemed surprised to receive an order. All the tables were dirty and not cleared. There were no teaspoons. Shame because it could be a good little cafe for pensioners and young families -especially with the £1 unlimited tea/coffee and soup and cheap food for kids.

Good breakfast young lad behind the counter was absolutely fantastic let down by his colleague who was less than cheerful

There were 3 tables occupied just past lunch time, & the reason is probably the quality of the food available. A meal deal on offer consisted of a white bread sandwich salad or chips & a drink. No other bread types such as brown or wholemeal is available as none is made on the premises. There were sufficient staff to prepare breakfast or bacon rolls so why not a sandwich? I ate a quarter of the cheese & tomato sandwich & left the rest as it was vile, the filling resembled a pesto like paste, with a smear of cheese on the top of the sandwich. Ugh! The coffee was drinkable.

This isn't our first visit as we do like to have a coffee whilst shopping. Both my wife and I hate drinking from paper cups yet almost every time the staff attempt to use them, when asked for real cups, various excuses emerge, primarily "we don't have enough staff", "the dishwasher is broken" or "we don't have enough cups". If we insist we sometimes get them but it's never service with a smile! The only exception to this is a male member of staff who wears glasses and a baseball cap, he is always cheerful and polite and totally out of place amongst the other miserable members of staff. Today we were told the dishwasher was broken, just as another member of staff was unloading the clean cups from it behind her! When this was pointed out, we got proper cups but they were so begrudged we thought she was going to throw them at us. None of the staff here, (with the exception of the male mentioned above), appear to want to work here. Numerous times I have been left waiting at the counter even though several members of staff have seen me but none acknowledged me. When you approach the counter, you can see the inconvenience of having to serve someone, written on their face. The reason for the paper cups is just pure laziness so they don't have to wash them, what a waste of paper cups

Decent food but the cafe was hugely under staffed putting the people working there under stress but the guy who served us was really respectful but there was a women at the counter who was very rude and swearing

Walk past the kitchen before ordering. Staff personal belongings and a deodorant on the shelf with food. Food, cutlery and wrappers all over the floor. If that's how they prepare your food i advise not to buy it

What a shame not only the Price increase but really poor Menu and Mediocre Service.Wont be returning.

I would love to leave a review however I never got served so we shall never know . There was no queue I stood by the till for ten minutes seen three different members of staff all ignored me . It wasn't busy very rude not hard to say I'll be with you in a minute .

Living in Hayle, I visit Asda café at least twice a week with friends for a cuppa or lunch. All of the staff and very friendly & welcoming, the food is great and the prices are great.

Abysmal menu. Staff are so inexperienced and have a couldn’t care less attitude. The food was bland and who runs out of brown sauce I ask you?

First of all - this Asda is truly a majestic feat of architecture - befitting of the UNESCO world heritage sight on which it is located. Excellent prices and a huge range of products catering for the wider Bay Area. As for the cafe itself, it was closed when I visited though if it is anything like the standard of the ASDA itself I would strongly recommend.

Neat quiet place to grab a snack an a drink . The staff are really pleasant polite and friendly . Only wish there were trolley stores

Visited this cafe last week.No positives at all,table dirty i cleaned it myself.The mugs,the tea came in ,were so badly chipped I took mine back.I had pie and 8 chips ,yes i counted.Not that i would have wanted any more because they were cold and hard in the middle.My partner had the chilli that was watery and it came with hard chalky rice.Needless to say we left both the meals.The staff were rude and very unfriendly.Indeed one who was supposed to be clearing tables spent at least 15 minutes chatting to customers whose were obviously her friends.We wont be returning !!!!!

Basic meal, not offered any choices, eg way eggs cooked or options to swap. Stated meal came with bread and butter but had to go back and ask, it had been forgotten, Needed seasoning, lucky plenty available. Staff could be more cheerful.

We just went in to the cafe for a cuppa but smelt the sausage and bacon. I had a Cumbrian sausage bap and my husband and Granddaughter had a bacon one. They were lovely and at £2.00 each very good value. We will be back.

Needed breakfast before driving home to Greater London our first choice (Duckies) was not open so went to Asda, food is good quality, bacon was slightly over cooked and beans were obviously being kept warm, lots deep frying (sausage & hash brown) made it slightly greasy but not inedible, would eat here again in an emergency.

A £5 breakfast, super value, nice lady who took my order and she even offered a choice of fried or scrambled eggs, fresh or tinned tomatoes', all arrived at the table within 8 minutes. Would highly recommend, as excellent value.

On a walk to the station decided to have some breakfast and opted for the Asda cafe. Food was served quickly and was hot and even though a full fry up was not at all greasy. Great coffee too. Staff were really chatty but very professional and worked hard.

Excellent value simple food. The staff were very helpful, eg swapped my chips for pease. Highchair for small children and food suitable for small children to share. I recommend the lasagne.

Been a few times when shopping at Asda but each visit is the same mediocre food and the longest wait in the queue even when they are not busy.good coffee and snacks but be prepared for a long wait before you get your food..I am disabled so my visits are by wheel chair

never eaten here before, ordered 2 express breakfasts which include a poached eggasked for one of the breakfast eggs to be put on the other breakfast as my wife hates eggs, when the breakfast came there eggs on both........they never offered to put right, but the was ok we just slid from one to the other... the eggs were hard, so i took them back up to the counter to ask to change. the girl assumed i wanted my money back, obviously wasn't listening, a lady? came from the rear and said "that's how they come off the machine" to british food standards or words to that affect, you should of asked if you wanted them soft ! she had attitude, forgive me for thinking that poached eggs are normally served soft....... she did me some cooked soft so so hard to do, i could not believe served on paper plates and plastic cutlery...they want look how morrisons do it and tesco etc similar prices , better produce , cleaner and polite staff.....the worst supermarket cafe i ever eaten in and very rude staff, did we enjoy the food when it came . NO NO rubbish

We found the food to be very plain, very little flavor and the staff had the attitude they really did not want to be there.

We are regular customers at the cafe and come in as a group of between 4-6 for breakfast, were usually greeted in a happy friendly manner by shelagh and jay, always asking how we are and having a laugh and generally helping to start the day right, not this day, they weren’t in and this women, Helen was in instead, I simply asked, no shelagh today? To be told ‘no thank f**k can’t stand her’ shocked that she’s spoken about a fellow colleague I carried on ordering to which she was rude and impatient the entire time getting angry that I didn’t order my drinks at the same time (I was ordering for my friends and kids aswell) so I waited for my order when she slammed it down on my tray she didn’t say anything else to me and started serving the next customer, I went back to my table shocked and embarrassed at how I’d been spoken to, only for a customer to walk up to me and say ‘I’ve been told that we can’t order until you pay’ of course that’s not a problem I was just putting the food down for my young children I walked towards the counter for her to point at me and shout ‘you haven’t paid!!’ I apologised and paid and sat down feeling very upset and embarrassed, I cannot believe how badly this women speaks about other members of staff and how little she cares about her job and customer service. Usually the cafe is the best way to start the day and the food is good! Not on this day, the manager was very apologetic the next day and I was so happy to see shelagh back, I know for a fact that If we see her in there we avoid!!

A member of staff by the name of Helen had severed me and my family of 4 which was very abrupt and angry towards me and my family over simple askings of what we wanted . Which to the extent our little boy had cried. Then while waiting for our drinks to be served she was badly shouting in a loud foul language to another member of staff that got upset and left crying. Inappropriate behaviour to customers and staff . Let alone no apologies given and then when serving our food ... food was cold and soggy and we had received here you go and slammed plates in front of me and my family of 4. While eating our food which was not replaced at all we could still hear this loud member of staff in the back unit mouthing at other members of staff .

Always cold what a shame, most staff very friendly one or two very grumpy, please get the parking tickets sorted you always have to look for staff just to get a ticket to get out the car park

Friendly staff but that's about as far as it goes. Went in for breakfast but food was barely warm and sausages were tasteless. Will not return.

Queued for 25 minutes for two drinks at 11am. Nowhere near enough staff and those that were there were unfriendly and unapologetic about the delay. Oh and we ordered an Americano and got Cappucino!

Had a cheapie lunch of cheese quiche chips and salad £5 was delicious, in nice surroundings and pleasant staff. A break from the expensive restaurant prices.

Okay, so I've visited this cafe a few times as it's convenient, so this is not a one-off bad experience. However, it just gets worse. Not sure who runs this place, either Asda or an independent company, but Asda need to take note of the terrible bad reviews and disgruntled customers...

Visted today and had to wait while the lady dished up food which is fine but didn't even acknowledge me for several minutes. Out I can see two woman talking and one eating her lunch. When I got served I asked 'don't you have a staff room to eat your lunch'. Server reply was 'no we don't. My lunch was average but hot at least. Scamp and chips.

When you queue for ages the last thing you expect to be greeted with is a rude member of staff bit that is exactly what it was like. I chose 2 children's meals (just a simple pack up) and I was questioned to why I was having them. I then went to to order pie and nash but there were no mash No signs anywhere that there wasn't any. They offered chips instead which were near inedible. Same goes for the pie too though. The panini was the only relatively good thing. We also ordered a latte which we were told there were no coffees. What cafe doesnt have coffee? Again no signs. They said they could do tea. It was so weak it didnt look or taste like tea. At no point were there apologies. It seemed like it was one big game and as one of the main culprits must have been in her 50s I would have expected a lot more.

The way the whole ordering system is run is a joke. The menu is below eye level right by the till so the whole time you're queuing up you don't know what's on the menu. Depending on what was in the menu I might not have wanted anything on the hot menu and wanted to go back and get a sandwich which is near the front of the queue. To so this I would have to squeeze back past people in the queue. Why isn't there a menu up on the wall like every other cafe? Then the man doing the hot food asked if he wanted any joy food? He took one item and then went off and didn't wait to hear the rest of our hot food order. We had to keep grabbing his attention to give him the rest of the order. The counter with the sandwiches has a massive door which opens right out wide towards you. In order to get the food out of it we had to ask other people in the queue to get out of the way. Very dangerous. The food didn't come out that warm. The communication between the staff was non existent so no one knew what was going on with our order. There were no burgers available (about half an hour into lunch service). Surely they can get burgers from the massive supermarket they are attached to?

Lets start on the food shall we I ordered a jacket potatoes with cheese and beans the beans were chewy my mum ordered a quiche it looked like it was microwaved for about 2 seconds my sister had scampi and inside was a jelly like substance and was white the hot chocolate wasnt even chocolate it was like tea with like a grain of coco powder

I visited here recently and never ever again! The food is awful. We ordered quiche and chips, the quiche looked as if it had been microwaved to death is was so dry. Scampi and chips again the scampi was way over done. Childrens chicken nuggets, one of thr nuggets was full of jelly. It was disgusting. All the chips looked reheated and dry. One one positive note the staff were great very friendly and welcoming. But there is no forgiving the food. AVOID like the black death!

An absolute disgrace, I was experiencing difficulty with the self checkout not reading bar codes. a member of staff arrived to help and immediately said I was doing it wrong. the next time it failed to scan she again told me in a surly manner that I had done something wrong, when I refuted this she got aggresive and told me she would not help and then walked off.

you have to wait far to long, you get your drinks first then you have to wait ages for your food, by the time your food is ready, youve finished your drink. keep trying but i have now give up. wont be using it again.

From no menus displayed to huge queues and delays. Shocking establishment, as bad as the supermarket, the food used is the cheapest of cheap, perfect for those wanting growth hormones in their chicken. I honestly don’t know how this cafe has passed trading laws!

Under no circumstances eat here. Staff could not be more disinterested. We were forgotten entirely. Like being in some hellish green tinged oubliette. When we asked where our order was they had no idea about it. Something arrived after 45 mins but not what we had ordered. Just dreadful.

Left iphone in baby changing room. Tracker said in store until shop shut. Then pinged at address where I met cafe employee. Wonder how phone got there???

I visited this cafe as a quick stop for me and my very young daughter as we were both getting hungry, however I was shocked at the level of service we received as I had been waiting in the cue for a little while and finally got to order and as soon as I ordered our hot food the man serving me just left me at the till along with the other people in the queue while he disappeared I had not paid or received my drinks! I was offered no apology and was just shoved out of the way while he went to the next customer.. Not good enough Asda.

We popped in here on the way to Paradise Park for a quick brekkie. My husband had a sausage bap and I had the flying start breakfast. Both were served quickly and were very tasty and hot. The coffees (even though they were described as medium) were huge and really nice. We came back the next morning to eat breakfast before our 8 hour drive back to the Midlands (Easter holidays=horrendous traffic!) and ordered the same. Once again, we were very happy with the food. The cafe was really busy and we experienced some rather rude behaviour from other diners about the short wait but I have to say that the staff were fabulously friendly and let us know there may be a delay in getting our meals. The lady who served us even remembered us from the previous day. Yes, it's a supermarket cafe with a view of the busy road into Hayle but we were more than happy with the service, the grub, the huge coffees and above all, the price is a bit of a bargain!

Went to asda hayle cafe today arrived at 11.45, stood in queue for 15 mins to be served (waiting for a breakfast ) to be told when it was our turn they are no longer serving breakfast as gone past 12, knowing full well we had been their a long time as had even offered our little girl coloring beforehand appalling service

So myself, my wife and 2 year old son popped in for a quick bite to eat as we passed through. All I can say is don’t waste your time!

We went here for breakfast, we had a sausage bap and a drink considering how cheap it was the sausage bap was lovely served by friendly helpful staff, we went early in the morning and the food was fresh and warm will definitely go back again

Summarise is not spelt with a z. They need properly trained staff and not jobsworth efforts. Shows disrespect for it's customers. How many times do we see poor managers ruin business. Good location and has potential but presently not good.

Supermarkets Sainsburys Morrisons Tesco Asda all provide a REAL value for money Alternative to the pricey Hotel breakfasts when we do "Weekends away".

clean and airy cafe, with nice outlook of viaduct, staff very freindly, great prices and lots of variety, the coffee is so nice

Got a "small" tea here before catching a train home to East Kent, and the tea was huge! Was lovely, but didn't expect said tea to be that big! Lovely staff member running the cafe though, so made the end of a holiday a bit brighter.

The title says it all: they do a lovely fish and chips (fresh) for under a fiver. Clean with friendly staff, etc.

Popped in here for breakfast and could not fault the place. Inexpensive, decent food served by two ladies who could not have been more pleasant and helpful.

We went in to get away from the traffic jam on the A30, we waited 25 minutes fo the food to be delivered, the lady who took our order said that they were just about to come out the oven, so food would be nice and hot, we didn't mind waiting.The lasagne was nice, chips were barely warm, it was also on a cold plate-if they had put it on a hot plate , it may have kept hot for longer, we also had scampi, which was also barley warm, shame really.They had teenagers who had food/drink from elsewhere, just plonk themselves on the café tables and started eating, wrong-you should not eat or drink anything in a café that you haven't purchased there, the staff never even said anything too them, just left them too it

Nice clean and friendly supermarket cafe. Food great VFM and children meal deals hard to beat! Nice seating area looking out on the main high street.

After a five hour journey we opted to try Asda at Hayle for breakfast, as opposed to a local Sainsbury. What a disaster. Asda, who stock great Gf food could not offer me a breakfast. It was 8.30 am and empty. The first member of staff shrugged their shoulders at my request. The next grabbed a manual and gave it to me. I was told I had to read it to see if the food was safe. I was only able to order the omelette but was not convinced the staff understood no contamination. I asked for. Gf bread roll, only to be told 'we don't do those'. But, I add, you sell them in store. 'Go and buy one then'. The omelette was rubbery and the breakfast cold. Needless to say, it won't replace our regular stop at Sainsbury's.

The cafe is clean and tidy and prices are good but there food is not cooked fresh it is kept under heat lamps which do not keep the food very warm, because of this i would not order a main meal again because i do like my food hot and fresh.

We arrived at 8.15am in Hayle after travelling from Essex 5 and half hours previously. We were hungry so brek at Asda was a must. The food came quickly after we ordered it. A full English and an Omellett. It was hot and tasty and the portions were large.

Ordered chips,sausage and beans today. The chips must have been days old,cooked and reheated again and again. Baked Beans were cold and crispy, sausage just about edible.

We went shopping in the supermarket and stopped for a quick cup of tea. The café had a slightly strange smell, I think it was due to the close proximity to the toilets. Ok for a quick pit stop but not too bad

Went to Asda for a coffee and cookie. The latte was huge and the cookie really tasty. The only downside was we should have seen the offer for afternoon tea early as it was only £2 more and there was loads of it.

I went in for lunch, I ordered fish and chips and a coffee. The coffee was horrile so I went up and purchased a bottled drink instead. Was very hungry and I was hopeful the food wouldn't be long, it took 45minutes and I was the only person in the cafe. the peas were cold and the fish was small size and the chips did not come out hot.

The food is acceptable, reasonably priced for what is on offer.The service is poor and for a new store i do not understand why the surface is coming off the chairs and so are rough around the edges. Easy to snag clothes on these chairs.

Staff too busy talking and can't be bothered too serve you. Got there just after 8 in the morning so disorganised and chaotic. No one seems to know what their doing. Staff just ignore you hoping you go away.

A lovely cup off tea, also have eaten here and the food is great as well, and very friendly staff as well

As a solo holiday maker, mealtime can either be:ExperimentalExpensiveDrawn out affair. I often checkout the supermarket breakfasts because they are meals with more constituents than most meals, and a nuisance to cook for one. Asda in Hayle offered the perfect answer. The Full Monty for £4.50Coffee was:. Standard.And no washing up!

We got to Hayle after a long drive from London and decided to pick up groceries before we went up to our holiday cottage.We hadn't eaten in several hours so popped into the cafe for a bite to eat.There was no one at the counter or til so we waited and waited. After about 10 minutes someone came out to serve us.We both had mozarella and pesto panninis which were hot but not particularly tasty.The food was cheap but not a place I would bother with on a regular basis.

We stopped here for a coffee.Staff seemed nice. And happy. Drinks were wet.So all in all OKThank you

We visited during our holidays in July for a meal on our way back from a day sunbathing in St Ives. The whole experience was pretty poor , the lady on the till wasn't listening to the order and as such managed to get it wrong. The kids meals had beans which we asked not to have as the children wont eat them. The fish chips peas came minus the peas. The brunch came minus some items including the bread and butter. The extra portion chips didnt materialise. The coffee incorrect. The list is huge and took a lot of rectification. On the plus side the food is very nice and cooked well , also if you are in this store also doing shopping as we were, then the store staff are the most pleasant Asda colleagues anywhere in the UK.

Lovely surroundings for this new store which has been built sympathetically to the local environment. The restaurant is typical supermarket fare. Ok for a fill up.

Stopped in for lunch, prices are very good and plenty of choice for kids which is a bonus with 3 fussy eaters Staff where very helpful and polite

My family and I had breakfast at asda hayle....it wasnt the best ,dry bread overcooked food and the girls on the till too busy chatting

Cafe. With a view of a railway arch,busy road & little else to make this cafe appealing it offers very standard fare average price in a very basic 'Spoon' environment.OK if desperate.

Visited the Asda Cafe today and had the large Full English it's was great and a very helpfull young man behind the counter so we where very impressed with the comfortable seating area also.

I thought the cafe was lovley very welcomin I wud deffinetly recommend it to my friends and family xxx

Ordered 4 coffees All were lukewarm. Staff didnt know what they were doing when going to order food there was 2 members of staff chatting about personal things at the tills, only got noticed when they had finished talking. Ordered 4 meals, 10 minutes later a member of staff came to inform us that they had ran out of one of the items on the menu that we'd ordered so we changed what we ordered. 20 minutes later we was still waiting for some food. 5 other people that ordered after us had been served their meals. We left the cafe with still no food and got a refund from customer services and the cafe manager had to come and explain himself. All he could say was sorry. Not an even excuse. good shop, but shame the cafe is let down by poor management and staff that arent trained properly.

Although a typical Asda Cafe it is brand new, clean and hygienic. Staff seem to be very keen, prices are typical. There is a large Asda car park that is free which is a bonus in Hayle where parking is difficult. Definitely the place to go for a cupper and a bite to eat when out shopping. Hayle harbour is worth a walk around if you like boats, there are a few historic items to look at, must have been a great place in its heyday when the mines were going. Some good beaches adjacent.Sanders fish & chips over the road which I gave a 5.Hayle is an improving town, it used to be a bit run down but now looks much better, houses have new paint and there seem more restaurants.
