I will start with the positive, beautiful surroundings. We came here for Coffee and a sweet treat. My 91 year old Mum asked for hot chocolate, the girl behind the bar told her “it’s very strong, I don’t think you will like it” she suggested we try the mocha instead. We decided on 2 mochas and a tea. We were then told she had no milk, only soya. We were just about to leave when someone came out of the kitchen and said “it’s ok I have found some” we also ordered 3 cheesecakes, the drinks arrived and the mocha’s were disgusting, they were tasteless and extremely watery. The tea was ok. We had ordered 3 vanilla cheesecakes with NO ICE CREAM, we asked for cream but was told they had no cream. The cheesecakes arrived all with ice cream. I am not sure what sort of cheesecake we were served but it definitely was not baked vanilla cheesecake. It tasted like something out of a packet from the 1980’s. We would have left and gone somewhere else but we were out of time, one of my friends had a train to catch. I will not be returning to this establishment. They really need to step up as we have so many fabulous places in Sowerby Bridge.

Disappointed to have pre booked a table to show up and be told there’s not really any food left and what we do have you can’t order for an hour and half We ended up having to find somewhere else to eat - not what you expect from a reservation Offered a drinks table which when you’ve come out for tea doesn’t really cut it! Maybe don’t heavily advertise 50% off Tuesdays if you can’t deliver for bookings

The servers were super friendly and the food was extremely delicious. The chips were proper and the fish was beautifully battered and fresh. Will definitely return!

They've changed the menu to tapas recently and unfortunately the menu is expensive and limited for a tapas menu. Portion sizes are small, e.g. £5 for 4 small slices of bread and a dip, some tapas dishes are upwards of £15. I ordered a hanging kebab while the other 3 in my party did tapas and so their food came out way before mine and I was eating after they had finished so it ruined the experience. If we all had tapas it would be okay, but if none of us opted for tapas the only options are the kebabs so again the menu feels limited. A failed experiment.

This is a little gem of a cafe in the Piece Hall in Halifax. I came with a coach party from around the Blackpool area and we were dropped off at the Piece Hall first. It used to be a cloth merchants place many years ago and I worked just around the corner from here in an office in the 90’s and could not believe how much it had changed. It is full of little independent shops well worth venturing inside to look around. The stone work has been cleaned and the walkways/ floor redesigned. It’s beautiful now. A lot of money has been spent doing it up. They were just preparing to hold a Eurovision Song Contest party and I believe they held a Coronation party also for King Charles on May 6th. I ventured upstairs, there are lifts as well as stairs and came across G’s cakes. I love a nice latte and cake. Already members of my coach party were inside and I was served by a really lovely lady called Helen. She said she loved her job and you could tell. Nothing was too much trouble. I had a latte which was just perfect and a large slice of Victoria sponge. It was delicious. There were so many cakes to choose from. I was told they also had another outdoors eatery downstairs. It was so nice in G’s cakes, I went back before the coach headed onto Shibden Hall.
