We love this cafe for hot drinks and treats. We haven't tried their food menu but it always looks good. We like their hot chocolate menu, today drinking classic hot and Terry's orange - both lovely. Our other favourite is the milkshakes. Small so does get busy.

Pleasant cafe located inside Waterstones bookshop. Service was good and the coffee and scones excellent. Only gripe is that coffee is only given one price on the menu but this was not the price we paid. It would appear that the prices are for a small coffee, we were charged 20% more......would be helpful to let customers know when ordering rather than upselling without explaining price changes. The food looked and smelt lovely and were would have returned for lunch had it not been for being charged more on the coffee than the advertised price. Dog-friendly but be aware that it is up a flight of stairs in the shop so not ideal for those with mobility issues.

Popped in here for coffee with my Mum in a wheelchair. Latte was one of the best we have tasted. View over the Cathedral is lovely and visit was worthwhile for that alone. Access with a wheelchair through the books is a bit tricky and cafe is not well signposted inside. Worst part is signs for the toilets as the signs send you in the wrong direction. I asked where the toilets were and was told they would show me in a minute but didn't seem to come back. I found the toilet on the 2nd floor but was disappointed with the signage which makes no sense.

We visited the Apple Cafe a couple of times during a short stay in Chichester, First time was for coffee and scones. The coffee was good so we came back for lunch the next day. Good array of soups, paninis and quiches on offer with good options for vegetarians. Food was excellent as was the service. Prices reasonable without we thought.

My main issue with this cafe and the book store is the general poor state of repair of the shop with holes in the roof and appalling loos. Walking to the loo you pass through crumbling walls, very dirty doors and a a neglected toilet which at the time was in a mess with loo paper everywhere. Cafe itself is table service, we just had tea but there is a selection of nice cakes and light bites. Good to browse in the book shop and escape shopping. Not relaxing though as worn out tables and chairs. Needs refurbishing desperately. Not romantic.

Sadly the view has gone downhill with the Cathedral being wrapped in plastic sheeting while the roof timbers and lead roof are installed. Some 5 years, I believe. That said the cheese scones and lentil soup are as wonderful as ever. Hayling Seagoon

Being Coeliac this is now our first stop in Chichester for coffee and gluten free eats. They seem to have more gluten free cakes than other cakes and being able to ponder and choose is a rare treat. We re-visited another time for lunch and again the menu offers lots of gluten free choice without apology. We spoke to the lady and it seems they are well ahead of the game in catering for special dietary requirements. The also get a bonus point for the Tea Pigs tea.

I often visit this cafe it’s great for wholesome lunches and snacks in a break from shopping. I cannot drink cows milk or soya and on several visits sang the praises oatmilk. The manager obviously listens to her customers and I was delighted to see it is now not only on the regular menu but apparently popular . It’s difficult for people like me to get a hot drink when out so Apple cafe will definitely be seeing me again.

Visited for coffee one afternoon with my wife. Very friendly service and lovely coffee, although rather small cups. However the chairs are old and uncomfortable and the whole place needs a coat of paint and refurbishment. The carpet on the stairs to the loo can only be described as old, dirty and worn out. The single loo and passage way are in need of a complete repaint job too. Overall this place is worth 2 stars but the staff and coffee made it to 3. It has great views of the Cathedral. There are better cafes in Chichester.

Almorcé hoy aquí. . "You do not understand. This is a clean and pleasant cafe. It is well lighted. The light is very good and also, now, there are shadows of the leaves." (Hemingway)The Apple Cafe is an ode to Hemingway's clean, well-lighted place. Situated in the Dolphin and Anchor, with stunning architectural views of Chichester's historic cathedral, the Apple Cafe is ambient, friendly, and simply excellent. The staff are knowledgable and helpful; the menu boasts an array of choices that cater to any dietary need. (The Goat's Tart and Humous are my particular favourites). I recommend that you take a book, take a seat at Table 11, order a salted caramel hot chocolate (the best you'll find) and watch the autumn leaves fall from the trees outside.

This is a bright and cheerful little café but from a good first impression we became disappointed by the time we left. Our table had a reasonably pleasant view for my wife but mine was of a coat rack and half the kitchen door. More of a let down for me was the menu, heavily weighted towards the vegetarian and I had to look hard before finding something to my taste. The cost was also a shock, e.g. £8 for a small bowl of soup and a cheese and pickle sandwich (sliced bread and also a slice of cheese as far as I could see), and £1.70 for one cup of tea or £2-odd for a pot of tea (apparently equal to a cup and a half). For that I would expect something special but to be honest the quality of the food was no more than average, if that. The staff are all helpful and friendly but I think they are let down by the product they are selling. Sorry, we won't be going back.

A haven of peace and tranquillity near Chichester's bustling centre. Indeed a matter of yards from the 16th century Cross.Good selection of light lunches, cakes and pastries and excellent coffee. A whole range of food allergies are well catered for.Swift, friendly service. A personal favourite is "squashed goat"! That's a small quiche with squash and topped with goats' cheese. I asked for, "squashed goat" on one occasion and a lady at the next table turned around and enquired, "what on earth is that?".A conventional oven rather than a microwave would improve things, but I understand the logistics would be tricky. One of the nicest aspects of the location is to have a window seat and look south over the north side of Chichester Cathedral. The only (?) cathedral in the country with a free-standing bell tower. The other attraction is that the cafe is situated in the Waterstones' building. So once refreshed you can browse / purchase from the excellent range of books. If we all purchased all our books online then in a few years time there will be NO bookshops on the High Streets. That really would be a tragedy.Hayling Seagoon

The staff were without exception friendly and helpful and the outlook onto the cathedral grounds was delightful, especially as this is just off the city centre. I thoroughly recommend it. Oh and the cakes------I couldn't decide, so took one cherry shortbread and one lemon shortcake to take away -----in a little box and bag. They were the tastiest " free-from " cakes I've ever eaten !

What a lovely little cafe, very impressed on our first visit and we shall definitely return. Really lovely choice of cakes and savoury items, and what was particularly impressive is the large choice of gluten free options. Rather than just one conciliatory gluten free flapjack....the choice was great. The list of drinks available matches the great food; a wide range of teas, many coffee options, and the hot chocolates can certainly be recommended. Our daughter loved the chilli and cinnamon variety. The staff are really friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. To top it all, this is a first floor cafe with views straight across to the cathedral..perfect. It isn't that large, so I can imagine that a busy times it may be difficult to find a seat. I come to Chichester about once a fortnight and when I do, this is the first place I head to for breakfast/brunch and coffee. Reasons:Food: Excellent, all home-made with good ingredients. The scones are excellent, the coffee is strong and tasty, perfect for waking me up in the morning. There is a full range of cakes and shortbreads - flapjacks, raspberry and coconut slices, chocolate and caramel slices, lemon drizzle cake, chocolate chip shortbreads and more. The meals served are all breakfasts and lunches as they usually close at 4pm. These are all good quality and delicious. Gluten-free options available as noted by another reviewer.Environment: Clean, hygienic, bright due to the large windows on one side letting sunlight in, cosy. Wonderful view of the Cathedral. Windows can be opened by customers for ventilation. The chairs and tables are all wood. Although it is a small cafe I always get a place. There's also the added bonus of this cafe being in a bookstore, so one has a wide range of books to read with coffee! Always nice. There is also a shelf on which the Waterstone's Top 10 books are displayed, to be taken down and mused through at one's pleasure.Service: Some of the nicest I've ever met, friendly, courteous and helpful. Orders always arrive on time and with a smile. Prices: Reasonable. Beverage prices are the same as you find elsewhere at £2 - £2.50 for a regular cup. Refill slightly cheaper. Meals are less than £10. .

I love popping in here when we visit Waterstones. The cafe is on the first floor and is in a snug corner, home made cakes and very tasty quiches and soups, tea pigs specialist teas and a nice outlook to the cathedral. A space for a natter, a coffee or a read of what you have bought!

i come here for lunch/tea every time i am in chichester. the staff are very friendly and helpful. they have soups, sandwiches, cakes & pies on the menu. a bit pricey but better quality compared to other cafe in the city. you get a nice view of the cathedral by the window seats!

Popped in for lunch following a walk to the Halnaker Windmill. Managed to get the last table available. I had the "lunchtime" size fish and chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas and my partner had the gammon, egg and chips. Both were very good. The "lunchtime" size fish and chips was a perfect size. My partner then had the crumble and ice cream and I had a mini version with custard and a flat white coffee. All very good too. Friendly staff and a great menu. A good selection of alcohol free beers. Definitely one to visit again when in the area, would book in advance.

Nice food! It’s a shame so many specials had run out by 7.30 and the service was not very attentive. Keep an eye on your customers and look out for empty glasses and when they might want the bill. It was quite hard to catch attention. Overall, however a nice experience and definitely enjoyed the food.
