Parked in what we thought was the free pub car park, received a parking fine for £100 one week later. We arrived when it was pitch black and due to COVID restrictions couldn't leave our table once we were seated. Hence, we didn't have a clue we had to pay to park. The staff didn't mention it to us at any point. Strange considering how many terrible reviews they're getting for the exact same reason? Why oh why.

I visited Anthology Friday night. Covid-19 pecautions were in place and being enforced. Plenty of space and log in NHS app needed. Plenty of hand sanitiser available. Staff were very good with table service and prompt and friendly service was delivered by the very nice Milly who did a good job for us on the evening.A nice pub grub menu with good variety of choice. I had a great burger double everything really substantial. Overall a pleasant experience drinks informal dining in a safe friendly pub. Top marks

Very little distance between any of the tables, order at bar process not well managed for distance either. My friend ordering before me lightheartedly apologised for her “awkward“ order (2 starters instead of a main, not that unusual) and the man behind the bar who looked like some sort of manager replied lightheartedly “you should hear some of the orders we get!” So I then joked “well you’ve not heard mine yet!” And he snapped at me completely serious “I’ve been here since 10am (it was only 6pm) and if you say something to piss me off then I’ll be telling you to leave” I was horrified. All I was going to ask for was no bacon on my burger! Unfortunately some of our party had already ordered by this point otherwise I would have walked out on principle. Even more unfortunately, I ordered one of the burgers which the girl who served me said was excellent and I’d liken it to a shop bought frozen value burger. I used to travel to Anthology just for the homemade burgers and have taken many people there over the years especially to try them and no one has ever been disappointed, even comparing to fancy burger places in Manchester. I knew there had been a change in management since then, but the clueless girl who served me had no idea whether they were still homemade so I decided to risk it and was deeply disappointed. Flat, flavourless and overcooked. Both the burger and the attitude of the staff were individually enough to ensure that I never returned but both together made it really quite an unpleasant visit, plus the general service was poor, mains came when the starter plates hadn’t been cleared, when we left several hours later, our mains also still hadn’t been cleared.

We have been there for lunch today. My grandsons wife Victoria booked it for the 4 of us. They came from Dewsbury and we came from Helsby Cheshire. We had their Sunday Lunch and it was excellent. Plus the staff were really helpful. Keep up the good work

just popped in for lunch, we have not been for some time. it looks like it's under new management. anyway food was really good, peri peri chicken skewers and thai green curry both very tasty and needed a lie down after finishing a giant wedge of cheesecake. I am a bit baffled by the bad reviews due to carpark.. there are signs all round the carpark. its poor for the people who work there if you put a bad review just because you missed the signs.. so if you're thinking of going, dont be put off by these reviews.... we thought it was a really nice place. would have scored 4, but giving it a 5 to make up for people who cant read...

I decided to take my disabled mother for an evening meal at this pub/ restaurant. After parking and displaying her disabled badge, we entered the rear of the building and sat near the kitchen. We were then informed the kitchen was closed, so we headed back to the car to find another restaurant. Two weeks later im sent a £100 fine for 14 minutes of parking. Disgusting!!!!

My favourite licensed eatery was Anthology until this lunchtime. I had booked a table for three of us for 12 30 17th February. When we met up outside the place was closed. We knocked on the door several times, even phoned the number but to no avail. What a disappointment and inconvenience turning up on time and not getting in. I was a regular customer, at least once a week and had felt welcome.What a shame and why were we left out in the cold before we went somewhere else to eat..

We drove to Wilmslow especially to visit Anthology, having heard much about its menu and great range of real ale. We arrived for a late Sunday lunch and things didn’t start well. I made it clear that we’d like to dine, but the staff seemed disinterested and were too busy chatting amongst themselves and with the locals sat at the end of the bar. I had to ask where menus were, whether we ordered at the bar etc. None of this ‘normal’ greeter info was forthcoming at all. For starters, we ordered chicken liver parfait and Chicken wings to start, both of which arrived quickly and were excellent. Once the starters were cleared we waited 35 minutes for our main courses. We had orders a burger and chips and a lamb Sunday roast. When the main courses eventually arrived we noticed that we had been given beef instead o lamb and that the roast dinner was far from hot. It had clearly been sitting for quite some time, as there was a skin on the gravy. The meal was also meant to include a broccoli and cauliflower Cheese bake, this never arrived. Once we had made the staff aware of the error with the roast it was replaced, but of course the other meal was finished by the time the new roast arrived. So we ate separately. Upon paying the bill I was asked whether everything was ok. I said unfortunately not and explained the problems we’d encountered. There was no reaction to this at all, it was as though I hadn’t said it. The staff member simply asked me for the full amount, which was just less than £47. There was no sorry or thank you. I was simply handed a receipt and we left. We were expecting so much and left very disappointed. I felt that the operation lacked a managerial steer. That staff were all youngsters who weren’t really that interested in the customer experience, or at least that how we felt.

Came with friends to celebrate a birthday. Great menu offering light snacks and main meals, lovely surroundings and good service.

We were a little apprehensive about meeting our friends here today, as we had seen a few negative reviews posted recently. Luckily, to our pleasant surprise, the atmosphere in the pub was welcoming to all. A young family on one table, an elderly couple with a bottoms of wine on another, and even a guy hard at work on his laptop. The food is well priced, and great quality. The beer selection is lovely - including the “squirrel” beer, which we were told is to help support a local cricket club.We’ll 100% be back!

They only accept british people and kick foreigners out from their pub.I have never experienced like that.They told a man his passport is fake and kick him out. It's 2019, who the hell do like that racist thing. I can't believe it.

We had the platter to share and the steak and ale pie. Absolutely gorgeous food in a beautiful pub. Excellent customer service too. Highly recommend it!

We arrived for dinner and no table was clean or ready. Once we did sit down we were ignored by most of the staff. Eventually a lovely blonde waitress came over, apologised, poured our drinks that we had already ordered with someone else, addressed my husbands dietary requirements and looked after us personally. The male bartenders seemed to be mucking around and chatting amongst themselves and certain regulars. I felt sorry for the lovely lady that looked after us, she seemed to be doing 4 people’s work, all with a smile on her face. Train your staff to be more like her!! Food was fine, not served hot. We will give it another go when it’s less busy and perhaps visit when it’s quieter.

Went for a meal although the good was nice and the two girls behind the bar were great the kitchen staff were awful. Shouting and singing so loud we had to complain. Also the guy behind the bar with the ponytail is an idiot

I usually hate writing a bad review about places but in this instance I have to agree with the numerous other reviews posted about anthology and advise against visiting.

Called in for lunch to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Nice lunch time menu to suit everyone. We didn’t come by car, but we were asked if we’d parked in the carpark, so expect that you would have to register your car to prevent a fine.

What a fab find, our son has just moved to Wilmslow so wanted somewhere nearby to walk....so glad we took a chance! The Sunday platter was amazing, such good value, food excellent & all the staff were great. A few people had said it was expensive, no way, just real value for money & fresh wholesome grub - thank you, we’ll definitely be back!

Unfortunately, I have to give Anthology a negative rating. As with many others, I have just had a £100 parking fine through the post. I have been fined for parking in the Anthology's Cark Park, despite being a paying customer.

Great friendly staff, awesome food and well kept beer. Met some brilliant people, for conversations and brilliant discussion which does not happen many places. The best pub in wilmslow in every way

I have been a few times with family and friends and have really enjoyed it every time. All the staff are so helpful and friendly. The food is very nice and the music and atmosphere is fantastic. I would highly recommend.

Message to the management. Its about time you stopped insulting the staff and customers and sell up and go!!

Like many, many others, I was hit with the parking "fine". I was unaware that a car registration scheme was in place when I visited the pub and now I am bing threatened with leagal action to recover £182.!I have bank statements to prove I was in the pub but they don't care, they just want your money. Presumably the pub are getting well compensated for this becasue the parking firms must be making and absolute fortune!

My friend and I have been here twice recently and have not been disappointed at all. We had Sunday lunch together accompanied by a glass or two of wine , coffee as well then to top it all live music which we both enjoyed. Luckily we live within walking distance . It is in the centre of Wilmslow so accessible by train, bus or taxi if you prefer not to drive . Full marks to all the staff there . It has been my favourite place for quite a while and my new friend has made it hers as well.

Like many people I got a parking fine despite being a customer. I appealed, which was rejected by Civil Enforcement, who seem to rely on intimidation to win their case. The only way I can see this will change is to stop using this pub.

Called in for a drink with my wife, had a pint of Timothy Taylor not very good need to look after beer a bit better, wife had gin&tonic; ok. Just in pub for 40mins, a week later we got a £60 parking fine. Read all the various complaints on trip advisor and agree with them.Go to miller and carter and the staff ask you if you have logged your car in.

Came here for a meal to kill some time while I waited for a friend. I'm not local to this pub or the area so did not know about the car parking issue, I just saw the sign stating the car park was for customers. The meal I had is now irrelevant as I was never asked if I had a car and asked for my registration so have now been hit with a fine. I called and spoke to a gentleman called Courtney and he reassured me that if I came back to the pub they can cancel the fine. So before I set off on the 3 hour round trip I gave them a second call to check only to be told there is nothing they can do and they have upto 15 queries a week regarding this. Perhaps if the staff mention this to customers when first serving them this may stop the less observant among us being hit with unnecessary £100 fines. I wont be coming here again but I'm not local to the area so they probably won't care.. And please don't reply with your generic response you really don't give a crap so don't pretend you do. Maybe when this ongoing issue affects your profits you may try to sort it out until that happens your paying customers will continue to receive unnecessary parking fines and then not return. Completely rubbish and very expensive experience never to be repeated.

I have been coming here fir several years since it changed hands. The staff are brilliant, helpful and friendly. The alcohol is second to non frm real ale perfectly kept and served. To world lagers, ciders. Cocktails fabulous. But overall the food is to die for and the chefs owners and managers really care about the food, drink and your whole experience. This is definately worth a visit then I am sure you will be hooked.

Met up with friends on Sunday afternoon for roast dinner. Really very good food, great service. There was a very good duo playing cool tunes in the background.

We have been to this pub for a few drinks and food over a few years. The new head chef has transformed the offerings. Sunday Lunch was sublime. Their meat is locally sourced and the champagne and wine pairings on offer much improved. The quality of the experience is now top drawer not just a regular pub with an iffy roast.

Been several times for food and also sometimes just for drinks. Service always good and food always been really nice and enjoyable. Nice garden area for when weather is warm. Bar area is lovely and a good selection of drinks available.

Recently went in for lunch and a pint. Firstly disappointed that all but one of the beers were off.

The Anthology have a new Sunday lunch menu and it is absolutely fantastic! I can’t recommend the food enough and enjoyed warm and friendly service. Yes, you have to put your car registration in at the bar. But I was reminded about this so no issue. Also, the live music was a great addition. Going to come back with the family.

Had the black burgers and they were amazing, very impressed with the new owner and new menu. Had a DJ in the back garden plus a saxophonist who was excellent. Great atmosphere 👍m

Upon dining and drinking at this bar, I was hit with a £100 parking fine. Having been here a few times before nothing indicated that I needed to register my car. Needless to say called them to no avail, ended up paying in excess of £200. Won’t ever be stepping foot in this place again. Absolute joke that they have no contact with the parking firm and discredit loyal customers. Wouldn’t recommend on this alone, food wasn’t great either.

Called in for a couple of drinks last week one evening. Not a regular, entered the car park when it was dark, parked up and called in for 2 drinks. No member of staff at any point offered to advise me that i needed to register my car details. As you can see from the many previous reviews this is obviously a deceitful way to make a huge profit from genuine customers of the bar. I don't buy for one minute the excuse the car park is out of their control. As the other reviewers have said, i won't return.

My dad wanted to have his 60th birthday celebration with family at Anthology and after hearing mixed reviews I was a little bit dubious. However I am so glad we did. The pub has recently been taken over and the new landlord and staff were extremely welcoming. They came over constantly asking us how things were and if we needed anything else. They also made a fuss over my children. The food was absolutely lovely and I highly recommend the roast beef dinner. The chef himself came out to ask how the food was which I thought was a nice touch.

To be honest can´t find anything to complain about, food was good, beer also,,,we had Hamburger, Risotto and a sandwich with salmon/avocado, service great, food great, left the restaurant totally satisfied.

Just thought I’d share a photo of another Wilmslow pub that has managed to CLEARLY state that customers need to enter their reg details. If this pub finds is so easy why does Anthology want to deceive its customers? I was fined £100 for not registering my ref details. There was not written ANYWHERE on the 22 signs in the car park! Come on anthology.. admit it’s a scam!!!

Friendly welcoming and quintessentially a fabulous pub with a great menu x the food was out of this world well worth travelling to and the super friendly service from all the staff will definitely make me keep coming back and recommend to all my friends x

I ‘was’ a regular here for many years. I received a parking fine a few weeks back, despite the tablet not working to input your registration and when I asked the staff about the lack of notices they told me ‘The signs have been ripped down’.

I have been here before but not for a while. I'd just got off the London train and stopped for lunch before getting a taxi home.

Like many others also just got a £60 fine for parking while being a customer. This seems to have been going on for months. The owners need to sort this out. Won't return again.

I have received a parking ticket but it looks like I am not the first..... I have proof of purchase inside of the pub but cannot get hold of anyone. The phone rings and rings and no response through emails. We were recommended this pub by family friends who spend every Sunday in there. It appears other friends won’t be visiting there again, of the fear of being fined. What is going on!

Do not bother to visit this dreadful pub. There is a car parking scam whereby you get fined £60 for using the car park, increasing to £100 after two weeks. There are hidden signs explaining how you can register you car. Strangely not on one of the 22 signs they have in the car park, you'd think they'd have room on one of those to let you know. Staff did not let me know I had to register my car. Is the pub in on the scam, is this how you make your money?!

We visited here on a cold and wet evening. It was toasty warm, great beer and friendly service. Food was OK but nothing special.

We went for a family lunch just after Christmas but there was no Christmas spirit here. Like other reviewers, I received a parking fine of £100 for parking in the pub car park. None of the 5 adults in our party saw a sign anywhere telling us that we needed to enter our registration number at the bar. The staff never mentioned it. It was a horrible shock to receive a fine in the post weeks later.

Nice pub food with a good bar, my wife drove and we new to put our car registration in to the I Pad on the bar, it is very clear if you get a parking Ticket it’s due to your own negligence and everyone knows the reason behind it is to stop people using it as a free public car part in wilmslow it works. TripAdvisor should visit the site and see for there selfs then anyone who wright a bad review on parking should be removed from TripAdvisor!

I have been going to The Swan/Anthology for years now and it's always the first point of call after our long drive from Wiltshire to visit family but on our last visit, a whole 30 minutes! We were given a parking charge NOTICE upon our return, NOT so apparently you now have to punch in your reg. somewhere? I don't know where as I didn't see it.

Used to go to Anthology regularly as a place for a quick drink. Cosy pub and friendly staff. However, I will not be going back.

I fought a parking ticket against this company who run coach and four car park - they sent a barrister but the judge dismissed their case

My wife and I came for an evening meal at Anthology during a holiday in the North of England and, like many others, were surprised and angered to find a demand for £100 for parking in this pub’s car park when we returned home.

Went to this place with our grandson and had an amazing meal the Chicken piri piri was marvellous. There was only two staff on duty but they were so friendly and the manager Les was amazing with the cocktails. Will definitely go again.

you need to answer the parking issue without fobbing everyone off with the same copy and paste statement!

I've known this pub for years as The Swan when it was a much better place and parking was free. The signs warning that charges now apply are woefully inadequate, and I see that I'm by no means the only one to fall foul of them despite being a paying customer. To add insult to injury, the parking company then took a double payment which I'm still sorting out. I will never drink/eat here again and I urge anyone to do the same. Staff are unhelpful and the food is bang average. Coach & Four so much better for going out in Wilmslow and they don't try to trap their customers with pernicious parking charges.

I’ve eaten / drunk here on numerous occasions. I remain a fan of the place although have to say have eaten there twice recently I wasn’t impressed on either occasion. Food was fine, service was pretty sloppy. Hopefully will improve given competition in Wilmslow for food / lunch now otherwise will be mainly a place to drink for me

Still The swan but with food. Sticky tables sticky floor tatty torn sticky menu on the table and strong smell of toilet disinfectant. Couldn't bring myself to eat there so went next door to BHK - lovely burger there - Anthology needs a visit from Gordon Ramsay.

Love this place but it has gone downhill lately.. I don’t mind paying for a decent bottle of wine when I’m out but if you’re going to charge £25+ I expect my (white) wine to be chilled and served nicely. Glasses are horrible and wine lukewarm. Menu isn’t great, used to be brill but now there’s not much on there that I’d eat. Staff are hit and miss, some lovely, some rude and disinterested. Manager very rude too.

Extremely disappointed having received a fine for parking there whilst I drank in there and have a receipt and bank statement to prove it! the signage wasn’t clear enough for me to see or I’d have done it. No one at the bar said a word, despite me carrying my car keys in hand. Unless I had a crystal ball I had no idea this was in place! Appeal has been rejected despite the proof I was there and paid! Ridiculous system for paying customers. Will lose a lot of trade via this and the handling of it, regardless of how good or bad the pub and food is. I will not be going back and will warn others to avoid.

What a lovely place. Wilmslow prides itself on good restaurants but the reality is they are few and far between. The food here is fantastic and not only that they have table service! Special mention for the lovely Suzy who made our evening even better. A lady who knows how to deliver pub food in classy way.

We only stopped here because there was somewhere to park. The signs about the parking were not that straightforward to understand and could be better worded. However once inside I asked for the screen on which I had to register my car - that bit was easy. The staff were very pleasant band service was quick. The food was very good and not overpriced. The decor, although not old, was tastefully done. Worth a visit.

Have had meals or just sat outside in the sunshine having a drink with nibbles. Lovely efficient staff and great food, would thoroughly recommend.

Spent £40 behind the bar, and got a £60 fine for using the pub car park. No attention drawn to the fine by the bar staff, and if there were posters round the bar, I never saw them - I was sat outside for most of the evening in the pub garden. Even with proof of being a valid customer to the parking scam company, the fines stick - they are not interested. I will never, ever use this pub again and will advise everybody I know to avoid it.

Lovely bar service and freshly cooked to order food. I could not believe the other reviews on here about parking fines there signs everywhere and as soon as you get in to the bar simple put your car Reg in the screen! and it’s free parking and still people leaving 1 star is a embarrassment to TripAdvisor for letting reviews because people can not Read the parking terms. Trip advisor should visit the site to see for them selfs.

This place is a sham. Fined for being a customer. Surely the bar staff should draw customers attention to the fact you are charged for parking. This used to be one of my favourite pubs in the days of the swan.....

My boyfriend recommended we go to Anthology so he could have a couple of drinks and sit outside.. He's from Wilmslow and knows the area well. What he didn't know, and many others it would seem from the reviews below, is that there are new parking regulations in the car park, which has resulted in me getting a £100 fine for parking my car there.

This isn’t my first visit here but will be my last. After meeting my friends for an early evening drink I parked in the car park as I have on previous visits a week later received i £100 fine despite being a genuine customer and didn’t see any signs informing of the penalties.

Stopped off on a nice sunny day. There were lots of signs saying parking was for customers of Anthology. We checked that was the name of the pub and then ordered 2 drinks and sat outside. Then to be hit with a £100 fine a couple of weeks later is ridiculous. Notice how they don't take card payments as they don't want proof you were there. Really is a nasty money making scheme. Shame on you to the owners!!! Safe to say we will never return.

Love this pub, great food, cosy, friendly staff... my only complaint is that if you go on a Friday and see the fizz Friday offer (it’s all over the place)- bottle of prosecco for £20- there is nothing that says it stops at 7pm, until you’ve been served the drink and charged the normal price. Bit misleading!

This is a very friendly and atmospheric pub with some quirky decor. Really good selection of beers and ciders and an impressive menu.

Splendid atmosphere and always a table available! The staff are so friendly and food is fantastic with a great choice available. Sun is on the beer garden all day and live singer on a Sunday to ease you in to the week ahead.

I went to this pub on a sunny afternoon for drinks, I sat in the beer garden with a pram (its difficult to get up the stairs to the main entrance, and to enter the back door which is a slim door) whilst my friend got some drinks from the bar. I have been here many times with my work colleagues but always walked from my work place. This time, i drove and parked on the car park... a week later a received a letter informing me i had to pay a £100 parking fine even though i was a paying customer!! After returning to the pub to check the signage i asked the bar staff for help on the matter only to be told they had nothing to do it it, as its a private company, and that i had to input my registration number on a tablet placed by the bar... (who does this?!) The signage was also minimal. Fair enough fine people who aren't customers, but to capture my car entering and leaving but not seeing my sit in the garden with a drink is horrendous. I thought it was a decent pub before, however i will not be returning ever again now! Very very poor way to treat honest customers! This pub should definitely think about controlling this situation before they lose all of their customers. Appauling!

I dad lunch, received a letter a month later from a company seemingly clearly trying to masquerade as a governmental body, threatening to send in the bailiffs if I don’t pay them £100 in 28 days. Went though their appeals process, providing them with proof of payment for lunch, but to no avail, still want to charge me. I can understand business getting frustrated by non-customers clogging up the car park, but to out someone a PAYING CUSTOMER thorough this for a genuine oversight is extortion. Won’t going again.

I do like coming here for drinks and the cocktails and shorts drinks with mixers are always presented really well. The draft beers are good quality too. The menu could do with being abit better but it’s a nice place and I’ve had plenty of good evenings here.

Well furbished with a caring, helpful and polite staff. The menu is inexpensive but extensive. Many smaller dishes with sides of the most perfect fries ever. Great atmosphere and pleasant land lady.

Nice atmosphere, service is really good, and the food is always consistently good. Could do with adding some more veg dishes to the menu. All round good venue for a drink or food.

This is a great pub that I frequent fairly often. If you happen to visit Mon-Wed after 10pm you are made to feel most unwelcome and they appear desperate to shut the pub early so they can go home. This often happens so not just a one off.

I popped in with my daughter and granddaughter for lunch. Access proved difficult with a buggy as the usual doors at the rear with a ramp were not open. However we struggled up the main entrance steps and eventually got in and seated at a table near a window with plenty of space for the buggy. Hurricane Brian could do its worst/best but we were nice and cosy inside Anthology. Drinks and food are ordered at the bar. The printed menu is extensive plus some tasty sounding dishes on the specials board. We ordered the chicken and bacon salad and the chilli burger. Both were delicious and are comparable with our favourite dishes from elsewhere. The staff were friendly and polite. Well done everyone at Anthology.

As I work in the town this has become a favourite place for nice lunch or after work drinks.

A beautiful eatery with a very extensive menu at reasonable prices. Portion sizes were very good and the food was piping hot and tasty. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a very nice seating area outside that caters very well for smokers and BBQ's.
