Annie Jones in East Hampshire

Very underwhelming. Had been looking forward to trying out this french restaurant after seeing such great reviews. Ended up leaving after mains as had tried enough of the fare. Initial booking was good, person at the end of phone was enthusiastic and welcoming. Upon arrival, we were put on a table near the thoroughfare to the toilets. The table itself was on a slope and the actual wood on the table had a ridge, so everything remotely liquid slipped to the side. When booking was told they had a very special table..... It sure was! The atmosphere was ok, not really a french bistro though. We both ordered wild garlic, chili butter and king prawns for starters. Dish was very very dry, nothing to dip the bread in so asked for butter. Extremely small 'prawns'... I would call them shrimp. Measly portion for £10. We did ask what happened to the King Prawns as these were shrimp, only to be told that what was on our plate was indeed King Prawns but they were peeled King Prawns....... That's why we may be confused. Smallest ever King Prawns I have seen therefore. Whatever they were, they were overcooked. Mains - I had lamb rump with sautéed new potatoes, it was ok, nothing special. Lamb was a bit tough and the new potatoes weren't remotely sautéed, jus was also bland. Husband had the salmon. He said it was nice but again, pale new potatoes that didn't appear to have seen the inside of the sauté pan. By this point, we decided not to have desserts and headed off elsewhere to continue our evening Best thing about the whole experience was the nice bottle of Sancerre. Overall, food just wasn't up to a decent standard but the service was good thanks to the delightful Zack. Won't be rushing back unfortunately.

We had an excellent experience here at the weekend. Great food - unfussy and well executed, brilliant friendly staff from the second you walk in the door and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended, and we wish the new owners every success in taking this local institution into the future.

The Hector's team has visited on many occasions for after work cocktails, and we collectively find Anne Jones to be a favourite destination. The food, atmosphere, and drinks are unrivalled. Our four legged friend also enjoys the visit.

Fun meeting place with welcoming and attentive staff. Great cocktails, both alcohol and non-alcoholic on offer. Interesting menu that changes regularly using local providers.

Wow, what a great place to visit for a romantic evening or out with family or friends. Beautiful surroundings and great service from the staff with a good menu that executed to perfection. Local produce and presented perfectly. Great cocktails too. We thoroughly enjoyed it all. The food was so tasty. We totally loved it here and they have a cocktail bar which we intend to go back to with friends very soon. The moules were so tasty and the beef and venison was incredible. Thank you and see you again very soon ☺️

Having been here for Tapas before we booked again however upon reading the menu discovered it is no longer a Tapas restaurant which was extremely disappointing. As it was quite late and we were there we had the charcuterie board which was bigger than the table, the table was squished in a corner very close to other diners who,s conversations you could hear more than our own. Millie was excellent and understanding of our situation.

Went for Christmas dinner, small portions, main was mainly cabbage, cheese and biscuits was just cream crackers, and not much cheese. Great service and beers, and nicely done out.

Where do I start...ok for a restaurant to be inviting..the basic part is temperature...the place was freezing. lucky we had dressed for cold weather and kept our coats on. Service was amateur at best...not difficult for the owner to train staff...but clearly he doesn't bother. Food...I had pheasant which was like a tough bit of chicken... probably shot the day before or maybe fresh out of the freezer. The bill...ah so interesting the add on a tree...yes a tree, when I questioned the tree..where nus it going to be planted the waiter said oh tree no I think it might be a school in Tanzania...

Went on a Friday night for cocktails. We had to wait a while for our drinks order to be taken, and eventually asked to sit in the courtyard as the inside bar area felt like a hotel lounge. We were never asked again if we wanted any more drinks so we left. It's a very quiet restaurant/bar. Great for romantic/cosy meals for two but not if you fancy a cocktail and a bit of mischief! Upper middle class dining experience. Would go back if I wanted a fine dining experience.

What more could you ask for, excellent food, excellent service, lovely atmosphere, very accommodating and so much more. All you need to add is a great table of family and friends and an excellent time will be had by all. Worth every penny!

Outstanding meal out with the wife. We had Moule Mariniere, house bread and olives to start which were perfect and maybe the best I’ve had then for mains the wife had Bass and I had Lamb, these were also fantastic, cooked to perfection, perfect presentation and amazing flavours. The staff were great and made sure we had drinks and ok…. But we did order a strawberry millefeuille to share as we were quite full but it didn’t come out. We were getting close to finishing our drinks and time was getting on anyway so we didn’t say anything, it wasn’t on the bill so no problem. All in all highly recommended and one of the best if not best restaurant in Petersfield. Superb.

Enjoyed an amazing dinner here yesterday evening. The staff were excellent, couldn’t have been more helpful in helping us meet our dietary requirements. The atmosphere was superb. My daughter’s Negroni was outstanding. A wonderful evening, so very special. I would highly recommend anyone to dine here

Wonderful food. I didn’t realise it had changed from Tapas but the meals we had were really lovely nonetheless. Nice selection of drinks and really lovely outdoor courtyard. Staff very friendly and helpful.

I had my first meal here under new management and found the food to be excellent. The service felt like it needed a bit of staff training but everybody was friendly. The G&T's were excellent and good value. Get a table in the various rooms not the central area which is a covered courtyard, too hot by far in summer, too cold in the winter.

Reopened by Annie Jones herself after too long and now with Dom Humphries as custodian! Enjoy!

The perfect night out for my wife's birthday. Excellent food, great atmosphere, friendly staff. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.

Not so great. Food was okay. Not many options and very expensive for location, quality etc. Not filling at all. They say we recommend 2-3 dishes per person. Not my kind of restaurant. Not too happy. Taco is like eating cauliflower curry with taco or simply say chapati that too for £7.50. anyway depends on person. My kid had nothing here as he didn't like it. Try out if you wish to for the people who serve there and interior.

Only had drinks, but lovely setting and staff were very friendly and efficient.

This place is a real treat. The atmosphere is great, the service is great and the food is spectacular. But places like this succeed because of their people. Not only were they all helpful and friendly on the night, but when I lost my receipt for a big group business meal they went out of their way to help. Can't wait to come back again. Highly recommended.

UPDATE. This was an awesome environment before lockdown and has returned with a bang. The restaurant has been replaced with another smart bar with new drinks. Food is still quality and expensive. Staff have been great to us. They’ve amended bookings and provided us with the best care, like off the menu cocktails. Top Tip: book in advance - very popular and fills up quickly. The above is 7 months old. My latest UPDATE comes with a 3star. I feel so sorry for the lady who has worked so hard to accommodate all the customers waiting at the bar on a busy Friday evening when she clearly wasn’t able to make any of the cocktails. The ambience was poorly balanced with the music turned right down and the lights right up. It’s a real shame as I really dislike people talking badly about this place, but sadly and on this occasion my party and I were left extremely dissatisfied with every element. The lady behind the bar deserves 6* for all her hard work. You did the best you could. Please work as a team Anne Jones. I hope our next experience works out better.

Some of the best food I have eaten in a restaurant in a VERY LONG TIME. Not even joking, the food was insanely good. The pork was to die for and their carrot salad was just perfect. The beef and chiichuri was delicious and to be honest literally every single dish was the best it could be. The staff made us feel so welcome and were incrediblely friendly and the place just really had a fantastic atmosphere. I actually can't wait to come back to Petersfield and eat here again. Didn't get to try dessert as we were so full!!

Yes. Tick VG, excellent food, great service, nice environment & atmosphere. Overall super duper, price not bad either. Only slight quibble is that it felt like a slightly limited menu initially, but actually there was enough choice in the end.

Taste: 8/10 Value for money: 6/10 Ambience: 9/10 Location : 8/10 Sustainability: 7/10 This was my first time at Annie Jones as I am not local from the area. You walk into a beautifully decorated outside area, all set with blankets on each chair incase anyone needed them. We were sat in the inside room with fireplace which was warm and cosy. We were a party of 6 so ordered about 18 or so tapas and nibbles to share. Although that sounds like a lot of food, the portions weren't actually that big so it was just about enough for us. I was absolutely delighted to see such good vegan choice on the menu that too clearly labelled. The service was great and we were looked after well by both the ladies at the restaurant. Most of the tapas were delicious, some (physically) easier to share than others. The only minor criticism I have is the tortilla itself which were quite hard. I'm not sure if this is because they were reheated. Aside from the tapas, the restaurant also does the usual drinks - great wine selection, prosecco, hot drinks plus desserts. All three of the desserts were presented brilliantly. I had the vegan tiramisu, which was one of the best I have had. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant. Food is delicious, ambience fantastic and prices are on the higher side but it is worth the experience for the odd occasion.

Went out for a meal for a friend's birthday, great atmosphere, great setting. Was a little cold but they did supply blankets and the heaters were on full whack. The food was good, though I thought I was going to overdose on salt at times. The portion sizes were very very small - and, yes I know what tapas is - but for the price of some of the items on the menu, the portions were tiny in comparison to price. I had a Hop Head ale with the meal, which was unfortunately served far too chilled for a real ale, so had to wait for that to warm up. Overall, was a great night out, small menu (I believe the menu was more substantial before COVID), the staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend!

Went for lunch to this absolute gem today. It was a special occasion, our wedding anniversary. We were warmly greeted by the friendly and accommodating ladies working the floor. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious. Sunny and charming courtyard to match the service and ambiance. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out! Thank you at AJ’s for an absolute treat, just what the doctor ordered.😉

Very disappointed with the tapas, well over priced for what you get, never been served with a bowl of basically chillies out of a jar and classed as tapas, also smoked aubergine served on a plate with no bread to go with it,very strange..

I believe the current menu is not what is shown on the pictures here. It is most certainly not Tapas either. Slushy odd combinations of food, all smothered with the same salad. Very odd, I can only assume they are in transition for chefs. Unfortunately I also received an oxidised wine although that can happen to anyone. Such a lovely place with so much potential if they change the kitchen department and scrap the existing menu.

Fantastic tapas, great service and a lovely atmosphere. The menu is a bit smaller than it used to be pre-covid/brexit, but everything we had was delicious.

Been trying to get a table here for ages (forward planning is not my forte) but it was well worth the wait! I have hellish dietary requirements (not far from low fodmap) and they were absolutely amazing and went to so much effort to make sure I could eat something. Plus the venue itself is gorgeous with a really nice energy about the place. Couldn't recommend highly enough!

My better half booked this Tapas place for our anniversary lunch. On arrival we were shown to our table in the outer courtyard which was a wonderful surprise as the atmosphere stunning on a sunny afternoon, lots of umbrellas too if shade preferred. The pork belly very special. We chose 4 tapas to share and then two desserts, all delicious.

Great to be back in the revamped Annie's!

I had looked forward to taking my elderly mother back to Annie Jones for a Sunday roast. We had so enjoyed their lovely roast dinners before. But i was told today that AJ were no longer doing roasts and that they only did tapas. Tapas is fine - but sometimes (ie on a Sunday) only a Sunday roast will do. So disappointed.

Good food and superb staff. The menu has had to be reduced due to the current covid pandemic, but the quality is there. Lovely atmosphere ranging from cafe like during the day to intimate dinner in the evening.

Dodged the rain and hail storm with a stop at Annie Jones for a tea and hot choc plus a piece of carrot cake and a cookie. Tables well spaced and fully COVID safe. Nice selection of cakes always on view in the front window to temp you. Quick service and friendly staff too. Good that they are back open after a few months closure. Carrot cake was lovely. Was always a nice place for some evening tapas too. Look forward to that again in the future.

Had a wonderful dinner last night. Selection of Tapas, beautifully cooked, including octopus. Great flavours and good selection. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great idea to have a wine pairing selection if you want to. Lovely atmosphere and decor. I went back today for coffee and cake. The cake is delicious! Will be returning.

This was my first time at Annie Jones with friends and everything was great. Beautiful decor, lovely outside area, good selection of wines and delicious vegan options. I absolutely love the place. I will definitely go back for a romantic meal with my husband. Thank you everyone for the good service and for making the evening so pleasant.

I ate at Annie Jones about a year ago and it was fabulous. Came back with friends since it re-opened and under new management and it’s still fab. Food is excellent. If it wasn’t for the English rain, I could have been sat in a quaint taverna in Spain. Loved it and will be back!

Booked in for Sunday Lunch to celebrate a friends special birthday. Booked here as have visited many many times over the years and it never fails to deliver. Sunday lunch is the best you will find anywhere locally. Thoroughly enjoyed, delicious food and friendly and effiicient service. Would never hesitate to recommend Annie Jones.

Great tapas. Just like the real thing

A local restaurant for us, and one we’d surprisingly not tried before. We had a delicious tapas dinner for two followed by the cheese platter and a couple of glasses of Malbec as recommended by the manager. Highlight was the pork belly tapas and the cheese platter which was served with some homemade pickles and jellies, a gorgeous combination of flavours.Attentive service and a really lovely relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely come back for another date night

Sadly this place is no longer the upmarket place it was. The tapas arm has taken over so if u like tapas, good news for you.

Waited ages for our order that never come, told manager we had to leave, no apologies just wasn't bothered! Only two other tables were seated. Will never go back.

Not dined here but wanted to point out the attitude of the management and owner. A friend applied, in person, for a part-time pot washer job which they were advertising. 4 phone calls later she still has not received the courtesy of a reply. For this reason I will recommend everybody I speak to, to avoid this establishment.

First time in Annie Jones was over the weekend, food and service was faultless. Staff were excellent, the Jerusalem Artichoke soup and the Pithiver was sublime. Excellent work guys keep doing what your doing!

Tucked away down an alley, a great place for tapas and coffee

Why should finding a decent Tapas restaurant be so difficult!!!! First visit last night (26/10/19) and loved it. Its like walking into a covered garden..vines from the ceiling, very comfortable patio furniture, bar, small, coffee area, function room...its fantastic. We had 16 plates off the menu both hot and cold. Food was quick to arrive and every single plate was very tasty. Lamb sausage, Pork belly, Charcuterie items, peppers, olives...what a feast.

Visited after hearing so many good reviews, very disappointed, staff were very nice and friendly, Tapas menu was limited and not very inspiring, food was at best average and very small portions, nice atmosphere but food was below my expectations

Such a friendly, welcoming place. Lots of different areas to sit. We sat outside in the sun. We were looked after very well & banter was flowing.Lovely cake (lots of different varieties & food allergies) catered forLovely lady behind the bar while served us.

Nice food and atmosphere but large number of dishes (unnecessarily) contained nuts (not great if you have a nut allergy) Every dessert contained nuts AND dairy which counted out the majority of our party... Could do better

As you walk down the alleyway to enter the restaurant you have no idea what lies ahead! Not only are you greeted by friendly waiters you have a choice of areas you can choose to enjoy your meal these include the buzzy bar area, dining snug area, dining room and large outside area. The menu is extensive and caters for all needs and are reasonable prices. Great place to go and enjoy authentic tapas as a couple of group

Just want to start by saying that we cannot fault the food. It is great. Good flavour and selection. The chicken thigh dish was a great highlight. The service on the other hand was shocking. We had to ask for our drinks and go to the bar to ask to order more food. Other tables around us seemed to have good service but we were just missed. It's a shame. Hopefully it's a one off but did spoil a nice evening.

Met with a lady asking how she could help, asked for a table for 3 for lunch, she didn't seem overly enthused but showed us to a table. Menu very small, but my 2 friends had a green salad with avocado & artichoke, I had chorizo with potatoes & spring onion.

You wouldn't know it from Google maps, but this place is also a great cafe. I enjoyed the carrot cake while my friend had the bourbon cake. The tea that accompanied is was also to quality. Highly recommended.

Atmosphere was nice, but food was very slow to arrive despite pre booking the paella, service in general was also slow, as we had to wait nearly 20 mins for a 2 drinks even though it was not that busy at the bar. It's a shame, as we've eaten here before & had some good times.

We ate on a weekday evening, when the restaurant was busy, and were really impressed by both the delicious tapas and excellent service. We enjoyed dishes which could hold their own against the best Basque tapas; standout treats included the pork belly, spiced cauliflower dish and also fantastic prawns in a slow cooked sauce. Puds were very tasty too. It was a real pleasure to eat such unexpectedly good food, sitting with lovey wine in a vine-covered terrace. Fantastic evening. Thankyou.
