We stopped off as a family of four for some drinks and snacks. Despite not having a full meal, the staff was really welcoming and looked after us. In particular, we’d like to thank Sofia who was very patient with our children. We enjoyed the lovely beee garden in the October sun!

We had a tea for 25 to celebrate the life of my father. Perhaps it could have been hard to have a perfect event after a funeral, but The Anchor Inn staff did provide a perfect event! I spoke to Nadia to draw up a plan and she delivered exactly what we discussed. The table setting in the private room was lovely, the food and drinks were also perfect, with various allergies dealt with efficiently. My father would have loved it, Kir Royale, Champagne, tea, candles and lots of laughter and happy memories. The staff were all very kind and solicitous. My mother was delighted with the event. Thank you.

A proper country pub. After a warm reception by Nadia we were shown our room which was very spacious and thoughtfully decorated. We then took to the bar and reserved a table for dinner. Food, service and entertainment with quiz night and the locals was most enjoyable. The following morning breakfast was served to our table rather than the usual buffet, and again excellent in every way. I shall be booking in for my next business trip to enjoy the traditions of this wonderful establishment.

Such a shame how downhill the food has gone at this place. Suppose it’s inevitable when it becomes chain garbage. Great service and still a beautiful pub, but the quality of some of the food was not good at all. Some dishes were nice (salt and pepper squid, za’tar halloumi, lamb scrumpits), but the nduja ravioli with raw tasteless tomatos was awful and that crab and old Winchester quiche was literally disgusting (extremely fishy crab with cheese?). We thought we’d give the place one last try being the venue for our wedding party but sadly won’t be returning again.

Stayed one night in the Rupert Brook room, with the benefit of a huge window and double doors on to a private verandah, overlooking the beer garden and fields beyond. Very quiet for our midweek visit, but guessing it might be noisy at busy weekends. The room itself was great albeit a little stuffy with the doors closed, although a fan was provided. Comfy old sofa and large TV, plus a large comfortable bed (slept well). The room decor and upper floors is ‘eccentric’, which I really liked. Evening meal was very good, although breakfast was only average: unable to cook scrambled eggs for some reason, and no fresh fruit was available. A good place for an overnight stay and meal, if a little off the beaten track. Haven’t worked out why it’s called The Anchor though, as I didn’t see any obvious sign of water nearby.

Disappointing Sunday roasts. The seasonal veg Wellington was just a chunk of unseasonal squash! The rump of roast beef cooked medium rare was not carved off a joint, just two wafer thin slices cooked individually within an inch of their life and definitely not medium rare; in fact too thin to be able to cook medium rare!! Will not be repeating a visit

The room we had booked was meant to be dog friendly , it wasn’t but they did allow us the dog to stay but this was due to needing to be careful about guests allergies. The room was a good size and quite quirky but absolutely thick with dust especially the cushions attached to the bed dusty bed frame. An allergy risk in itself I would think. There was only 3 sugar cubes in the pot , shower gel pump was empty luckily we had taken our own . The drinks very expensive £21.00 for a vodka and orange and a Guinness. Food was very over priced and difficult to choose something . Breakfast was nice and the waitress was really lovely. Generally a sub standard stay massively over priced. You would be far busier by normalising your menu a bit, reducing the prices and getting a cleaner in to give everything a good wash and clean.

We held our wedding reception here on 12th August 2023 and the day was absolutely perfect. The venue lends itself beautifully to a wedding. Nothing was too much trouble for Nadia and her excellent team. All our our guests commented on the excellent food - Aaron the chef even got a round of applause. We were blessed with good weather and were able to make use of the well maintained garden area. The bedrooms were quirkily unique and added to the overall experience. Several of our guests were so impressed that they said they would go back to visit the Anchor Inn in the near future for a meal. We appreciated the flexible approach to the drinks and catering offered to our guests which was loved by all. Everyone had a brilliant time and we wish we could do it all again!!! We visited The Anchor Inn on Saturday 10th to have an early dinner in the garden. Service was reasonably efficient and helpful but the tables were not routinely cleaned so most of them were dirty, so we washed ours down ourselves with wet napkins. The washroom facilities, closest to the garden, were appalling; dirty, urine on the floor, no wc paper. When we mentioned this to this staff, and said they were unacceptable, they were not particuarly apologetic and advised us to use their alternative facilities - the other end/side of the pub, which were absolutely fine, and as you would expect them to be. We were shocked that during the 2 hours we were there - the washroom toilets were not cleaned or taken out of service. 2 people in our party had the fish and chips and everyone thought that dish was very good (although the peas were definitely not mushy peas!). Unfortunately the sharing starters and all the other food was very average to poor quality, and as a result very over-priced.

We have dined at the Anchor on previous occasions and celebrated my wife's 70th birthday there in February 2023. The then manager, Max, produced an excellent lunch for 43 guests, our daughters decorated the main restaurant area and there was also a magician to add to the fun. August 9th this year was our 44th wedding anniversary and we decided that we would treat ourselves to dinner at the Anchor. We also booked a taxi to take us home. What a terrible mistake!!!! The bar staff although very pleasant, appeared to be very inexperienced and we waited a long time to get served. After finishing our drinks we moved to the restaurant and there we were introduced to what can only be described as an 'inadequate' menu which did not resemble the one advertisied on the main website. No classic starters: pate, prawn cocktail, soup of the day etc only what was decribed as light meals/starters many of which were as expensive as the main courses. On the subject of main courses, where was the sea bass, sea bream, or salmon? Indeed, where was the beef, sirloin, fillet steak or venison which one would expect from an establishment with such a high profile? In desperation we chose fish and chips with mushy peas only to be told there were no mushy peas just a curry sauce, Yuck!!!! To cut a long story short we left the restaurant, redirected our taxi and went to an excellent Chinese Restaurant in Farnham. The food was brilliant and the service outstanding and thanks to 'The Lucky Star' our celebration was saved! Sadly, The Anchor appears to have changed from a fine dining/Bistro pub into a bar meal establishment. One of the staff apologised and agreed with our observations saying maybe it was an issue with suppliers! We would welcome your comments!

We had enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant the night before, but unfortunately the restaurant was closed on the Saturday evening due to a private function. Thanks to the hotel we were able to use the small bar and Sofia kindly popped out and picked us up some pizzas from the nearest town, which we were extremely grateful for. Very disappointing service and quality of food. Two of the four mains we had were nice and just about justified the prices, but roast beef was a very small portion and came out lukewarm. Kids roast was pitiful - small piece of chicken, two roast potatoes, two carrots and some cabbage for £10. Service was poor - quite unwelcoming staff member on arrival who seemed to be irritated when I asked for a jug of water instead of a bottle! No one came to check how our food was after serving. They still added a 10% service charge to the bill though! Will try again in the future as it’s in a lovely setting but certainly not for a while. We know the Anchor and has been a good experience in the past. Booked lunch for five and placed on a table which was in the path of a howling gale from open doors. We close the doors, they were opened again, wedged. We say it's cold, nothing happens. We close the doors, they were wedged opened again for the convenience of the staff. Miserable lunch in a cold draft, food ok, service so so. Booking on-line. The Anchor is now part of the Butcombe empire who force you to accept marketing spam to acknowledge the booking, then tell you you have to write to an email adress to unsubscribe. A trivial anoyance but an unnecessary annoyance. C'mon Anchor you were better than this.

On the plus side the staff were all lovely, breakfast was absolutely delicious and the room (Signature with a View) beautiful. The Anchor inn is in a beautiful and really quiet location. On the negative side, communication was really poor - I paid extra to book the Signature with a View (which the website stated could accommodate a z bed). However, I discovered, when I phoned to book a table for dinner, 3 days before our arrival, that I had actually been downgraded to a smaller double room since the signature room could no longer accommodate a z bed and my room had been resold to another customer. Following a complaint to the manager my booking was reinstated but I received no apology or acknowledgement that the company had done anything wrong. Although the food was delicious, the portion sizes at dinner and lunch were minute - the mains were more the size that you would expect for a starter. Although the room was beautiful it is looking a bit tired (and had some massive resident spiders and cobwebs in the bathroom!).

I came in for a family lunch, we were served by Steph, she was excellent at service, gave us great knowledge on the menu and specials menus as well, great atmosphere too. Highly recommend.

Popped in for a quick meal just 2 of us, food was great and we had a brilliant meal. We were sitting in the bar which had a lovely atmosphere and we were served by Sofia who was very friendly and committed to good service. Will be back for sure 👍👍👍

Superb little place with a surprisingly large room, extremely comfortable bed and great breakfast! Staff were lovely too, would definitely recommend this place.

Lovely pub and location however the staff was not very welcoming and friendly. Order the fish and chips which was below average, the batter was not crispy and wet. For £19 it was not worth the money!

Lovely meal for 4 and our dog after a beautiful countryside walk. Really great service, food was lovely, lots of choice on the menu including nibbles, starters and a specials menu. Seems like a decent community buzz here with car meets, dog walks and even an upcoming falconry show. Thanks very much all and compliments to the chef :)

I never write a review, but couldn’t leave The Anchor Inn without saying how much we enjoyed our delicious dinner, attentive service, and very pleasant ambiance. Can’t wait to come back!

Really good food; really great service; lovely environment. It's so nice to find great food and not have to rely on a chain (which we're quite bored with). Really worth a visit.

Normally a really good place for food. However, on this occasion, they had run out of most things on the menu, so they had a very limited choice. The food was still nice and the service was good.

Well arrived a little later than expected on Sunday 29th September, I surprised the parents who eat here regularly on Sundays for the roast. I had the beef roast with extra vegetables, service was excellent, great atmosphere, for pudding I had the treacle toffee pudding with ice cream. Mum and dad throughly enjoyed their meals as usual. Compliments to the chef and all the waiting staff Who provided a great service even though it was very busy. We have discussed as a family to come for a Christmas get together, we better get our skates on as they are very popular!!
