The Anchor Inn in East Hampshire

All very good indeed. This was our first visit following a recommendation. Will revisit. Only criticism was that the rood took a long time to arrive......but it was worth the wait.

we all had very good meals and the service was fantastic, friendly and efficient. the only problem we had was deciding what to choose from the menu, too many things we liked

This is a beautifully decorated quaint old inn The bar areas are uncramped and has a bistro feel The service was professional throughout The rooms are beautiful with lots of thought put in fpr everything you need ( iron hairdryer shower gel handwash shampoo fluffy towels tea and cafetière coffee and fresh milk The room had low beamed roofing and managed to mix authentic original features with modern touches The breakfast 8-10 was exceptional with quality ingredients served by a friendly lady

Had dinner here for a change of scenery and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere was cosy and the food was delicious

Overnight stay and catch up with one of the locals. Typical old style English country pub (sadly not many of these left). Great atmosphere, good selection of quality food and drink on offer, very comfortable and spacious rooms decorated in keeping with the property style, parking, good views of the surrounding countryside. Don't know why I'd not stayed here before!

Great breakfast, comfortable room and excellent service.

Had the most wonderful celebratory lunch for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We hired the stateroom for 24 of us. It was light and airy and very comfortable for us all. As it was a sunny day we opened the doors to the garden which was great for the children. Food was superb. Everyone in our party complimented the food. The front of house team looked after us so well and we never ran out of drinks! Thank you from us all!

Pitstop for a Sunday lunch- the team were very accommodating and despite a clear lunch rush they were able to seat us early (we were only two). Rare to find a decent vegan/ vegetarian roast dinner in the countryside and this one was excellent, made by someone who knows their way around a vegetarian wellington and gravy! Thanks a lot, team.

We visited the Anchor Inn with some friends for supper and were pleasantly surprised. The barman we met on arrival was friendly and engaging, the Buttcome Ale was a good pint too. We sat in the bar for 30 minutes before going to the restaurant area, nice. The restaurant was rather quiet for a Friday night which meant it lacked a little atmosphere. The waitress was friendly and attentive and discreet, perfect we would say. The food was really good, we shared some starters, Calamari and Crab Cakes, both were very good. Our main meals were delicious, I had the pie special, meat and potato on the evening we went, loads of steak in a decent sized pie with mash and green veg, really good. My wife had the Chicken Supreme, "delicious, the sauce was amazing". The reason I have given this review 5 stars is the food, for pub food was really good. The Ambience was a little flat on account of it not being very busy, a surprise for a Friday night. There is not a lot the staff on the night can do about that but hopefully more reviews like this will help. We would highly recommend a visit.

Just stayed for 1 night at the Anchor Inn. We had dinner there, which was absolutely delicious and also the breakfast, which was very well cooked and equally delicious! Our room was a great size and the bed was comfy. Very good value for money with the breakfast included. We'll be back!

i’m a local and have popped in e few times to the anchor as it is such a lovely setting the restaurant has improved immensely unfortunately the bar is another story the staff are untrained they do not connect with you as a customer more interested in talking to other people or friends. We’re a great group of friends visiting all three pubs on froyle but have found the anchor to be so much more expensive the Hen & chicken again lovely setting but not many places for drinkers to sit. The best pub for our crowd is the star in Bentley its friendly has good food lovely staff & good prices which in these difficult times is crucial.

Only stayed for one night, I was working in that area. But what a lovely country pub, so much character, the room very clean, the food and staff both very very good.

We had a wonderful relaxed typical Sunday lunch here with our Italian friends. Delicious Sunday roast and very cozy country interior with lovely friendly staff.

There is always a warm welcome on arriving at The Anchor. The rooms are beautiful and are provided with refreshments, including home baked treats. All our evening meals were absolutely delicious and served by a friendly and very professional team. You will not be disappointed. Highly recommended.

Lovely old pub with lots of interesting old beams and features. Great room, very comfortable and spacious. Service from the assistant manager and the lady at breakfast was excellent. Bonus was electric charge points at the pub.

The food was absolutely fantastic with generous portions. You could tell that it was all fresh food made using quality ingredients. Unfortunately however, the rooms were not. They hadn’t been cleaned properly, there were cobwebs everywhere & we found 2 spiders in the room. As someone who suffers with severe arachnophobia this made it a really awful experience. The sink wasn’t draining properly and they had purposefully switched one of the lamps off so when we first entered the room we wouldn’t notice that it was very worn. £10-£20 to replace a lampshade… See all the photos attached. The sink photo was taken after washing my hands so I hadn’t used a lot of water.

One of the best night stays I have had in a long time. Could not fault the place and will be recommending the Anchor to all my fellow travelers.

Absolutely stunning food I had the Gnocchi special which was really nice I could have eaten twice as much. Rest of the party had pie, and pork meals, all were really nice. Service and welcome was spot on, pub is beautiful inside but watch your head as old ceilings and berms so low.

We visited for Valentine’s meal at The Anchor. The evening was fabulous with great food, a nice selection of drinks and live music with the piano being played in the background. The menu had some great dishes. We had the garlic and chilli prawns, beef brisket sharing plates and a selection of desserts to share. All three dishes were sublime and a great example of the dishes that Kevin and the kitchen team produce. The front of house staff were friendly and welcome. We would like to call out Rose for her enthusiasm and engagement. It was a lovely evening and we will definitely be visiting again.

Although I didn't stay on this visit, I have previously and I love the place. This time, a birthday meal in the Stateroom at The Anchor Inn. The staff were great, really helpful, nothing too much trouble. The manager, Nadia, and her team were great at looking after us all. A table of 18. The food? Lovely! Great choice and everyone was delighted with what they got. The team at the Anchor also went out of the way to provide for options that we hadn't requested previously. Will definitely be back, as will some of our guests from what they said. Thank you, Thank you, Thanks you to the whole team at The Anchor for making our night so special

We stayed here so we could meet up with friends. The room was delightful with everything you would expect and dinner was an excellent standard and tasty. The leaflet showing walks from the door and nearby places of interest is a great addition. It was a shame we couldn't stay for longer!

I have visited here before and been impressed by both the service and the food. This time however, Sunday lunch, the service was 'stretched' and didn't feel personal or attentive. I may have chosen badly (because the roasts did in fact look very good), but the fish stew that was sold to me with the words "you won't regret it", had the exact opposite effect. Small, somewhat starter/light bite size (with main course price!), dry and lacking the rich depth of flavours expected in such a dish. Overall, slightly disappointing......sorry, but there it is, better to know.

Family reunion for lunchtime birthday celebration. Everything went well from online booking, telephone call to discuss reservation and table service on the day were all friendly, excellent and professional. Well done..

This is a lovely country pub/restaurant just of the A3 near Alton. Very homely atmosphere and clearly popular. We went for Sunday lunch. The food was excellent and portions were generous. The service was attentive and timely although we did struggle to fine someone when it came to pay! The only reason this does not get five stars is because the heating in the restaurant did not seem to be on meaning that it was chilly. There is an open fire in the bar area but not the restaurant. That is my only niggle.

Staff were very lovely. A large party of 56 were having lunch but nothing was too much trouble for our small table of 2. Food very good- reasonable bill at the end but no alcoholic drinks helped with that- it might have been different otherwise.

Had the loveliest stay here for a wedding nearby. The staff were so lovely and the room was amazing. Thank you so much to the team!

Great country pub, amazing food, good service. Can't fault it! We love the changing menu and particularly the mini biscoff doughnuts and fish stew. Haven't stayed so can't comment on the rooms aspect.

We had a perfect stay in the Anchor Inn, incredible rooms, clean and heaps of space, beautifully decorated, perfect bathrooms, it could not have been better!!! (We had the Hillary and the Brookes rooms). Breakfast was tasty, service was friendly and perfect! We will definitely come and stay again.

Came for a family meal after New Year. Friendly staff and good food. Chilled evening and just what we needed.

We dined rather than stay over. The pub side is very quaint and in keeping with a very old country pub, mind you don’t bang your head on the beams. Taken through to the restaurant area in a newer part of the building. Again, very nicely set out with a good distance between tables. The decor throughout this pub is very tastefully done. We visited on an evening in January and it was lovely and quiet. The menu had a good range, I opted for the buttermilk chicken burger which was delicious and the skin on fries were cooked to perfection. The blonde waitress was lovely, service with a smile, you don’t see that very often these days. A pub not too far from us that we’ve never visited before, I think it’s safe to say, we will be back.

Great 2 night stay at this pub. 2 roaring fires in a cosy bar with a good combination of locals in for drinks and people drinking before moving through to the restaurant. Great food, lovely breakfast and really comfortable rooms. Super friendly staff. Loads of walking trails in and around the pub.

We had an absolutely delicious meal at The Anchor. The waitresses were completely charming and fun and the food (even though my friend's first choice wasn't available) was really, really yummy! The ambience was great and it was nice to see a busy, buzzing pub. I will definitely be back in the New Year with my husband. It was also a bit of a trip down memory lane, as I worked in the kitchen here back in the early 80's!!

Went for an early dinner and, as per usual, the food and service were both excellent. The bar is a great place to start your evening and has a wonderful ‘old world’ cosy atmosphere and the bar staff are always so welcoming and friendly. We would definitely recommend a visit if you’re anywhere nearby.

This is the 5th year that the Bentley Art Group has held its Xmas party at the Anchor in Froyle and as usual it was a great event. Booking the private room was easy and the menu both varied and really enjoyable for everyone. Nadia and her team took great care in the excellent service we enjoyed, even on a busy day. I know that everyone had a great time, judging by the fact that the party went on for most of the afternoon! We won’t hesitate to book again for next year.

We have been to this pub several times over the last 40 years and it never fails to please. And this is what we experienced when we dined on Monday, warm, cosy atmosphere, very good food and the service was efficient and quick. The bar had a good choice of real ales and a very good wine list

Great service and delicious food

We needed a break and picked The Anchor as a Butcombe hostelry. We were not disappointed with the room, for which we paid extra. The service was generally good, with some confusion checking in. Nobody was rude and tried to be helpful. Our only disappointment was the evening meal of roast beef which spoilt it for my wife especially as the beef was almost impossible to cut and was very tough. She left most of her meat. The vegetables were very hard and again, difficult to cut and eat. Very poor as this was the main meal of the visit. Overall at a good standard.

Great Sunday Roast - absolutely yummy. Superb desserts too.

It was a disappointing meal. Whilst our starters were enjoyable, my fish stew was pieces of fish, prawn and a few mussels in a tomato sauce, rather than a rich, fishy sauce. There were two lumps of boiled potato in it, as well as two lumps of butter on the top of the stew. Two of our group had sausage and mash and said the mash was cold and the sausages just like an average supermarket sausage. The fish and chips main course was enjoyed by three of our group and the desserts were also enjoyable. A pity, as this was a special birthday meal.

Had a delicious Sunday roast here recently. Probably the best one I’ve had in a long time! Also the cherry smash cocktail was very good. Lovely service as well.

Came here for brunch and dinner when we were staying in the area for the weekend. Both meals were excellent. The pub is really pretty and characterful and the service very warm and friendly. Will definitely come back next time we are here.

We went for dinner on a Saturday evening at The Anchor, it’s a lovely country setting and very friendly. However, we were hugely let down by the food - the menu is impressive, a little overpriced, but lots of choice and a variety of flavour pairings, however what we were served was bland, overcooked and most likely from frozen. There was also a huge amount that was sold out, which for a 6:30pm booking was a surprise. After a hygeine mishap with my main dish, they removed the wine, not the food, from the bill and managed to charge us for an extra pudding. The biscoff doughnuts were so hot inside they burnt my mouth. Such a shame as we had heard great things, but sadly it didn’t live up to expectations.

We had a big family dinner at the Anchor and the food was brilliant. The kids said it was the best burger they’ve ever had. The calves liver was so delicious. Ella served us and was so efficient. The pub has a great ambience. Highly recommend!

Wow is an understatement, visiting with a local to this establishment, while visiting from north, have to say never have I met a dedicated team member like Charlotte credit, us northerners like banta and she got game

Lovely relaxed lunch after a long walk through beautiful countryside.

The manager (Chilla) has put so much energy into keeping this fabulous pub alive… since Buttcomb took over the place has struggled - for a long time the food and beer combinations were pretty dreadful and totally, totally the wrong price for very poor food… HOWEVER - we have just had a fantastic evening there - the beer was decent (not local but still ok) and most importantly the food was really excellent - there is a new chef and based on this evening he is doing a superb job. Have been disappointed in the past but tonight gave me faith that this team is taking this pub back to the level it deserves - thank you - really good and if you have not been in a while (since Buttcomb took over and appeared to be killing it) then highly recommend giving it a second chance - very good!

Stopped overnight here on a trip to collect a machine in the area. The Staff are great, very friendly and helpful. I like the fact that when they bring your meal to the table they don't reach over other members of your group to deliver your plate, and they don't interupt you when your eating... to ask if everything is ok with the meal. this to me says a lot about the place. I would recomend it to other travellers, and would choose to stay here again if i was in the area. The rooms are so quaint and old fashoined with oak beams in the ceiling. 10/10 from me.

We dined rather than stayed. A very welcoming atmosphere in the restaurant, with friendly and attentive staff. The menu options were plentiful and dishes very reasonably priced; adventurous without being eccentric. The quality of the food was very good. Very happy with the wine list too. We'll come again.

Just returned from a one night stay at The Anchor. Such a friendly welcome and attentive staff. Our room was spacious and filled with lots of little touches like fresh milk, cafeteria for coffee and pillow mist by the bed. Food was really good. Locally sourced and full of flavour. Best burger I have had in a long time. Breakfast was simple but brilliantly done using fresh ingredients. Only downside was the weather so this will be a good excuse to come back and try the local walks in the Spring!

We stopped off as a family of four for some drinks and snacks. Despite not having a full meal, the staff was really welcoming and looked after us. In particular, we’d like to thank Sofia who was very patient with our children. We enjoyed the lovely beee garden in the October sun!

Nadia and her team were friendly, accommodating very helpful, and made our one night stay over to attend a family wedding very smooth. Plus they helped me organise brunch for 27 people the flowing day. All Went smoothly. A huge thanks to Nadia and her team.

We had a tea for 25 to celebrate the life of my father. Perhaps it could have been hard to have a perfect event after a funeral, but The Anchor Inn staff did provide a perfect event! I spoke to Nadia to draw up a plan and she delivered exactly what we discussed. The table setting in the private room was lovely, the food and drinks were also perfect, with various allergies dealt with efficiently. My father would have loved it, Kir Royale, Champagne, tea, candles and lots of laughter and happy memories. The staff were all very kind and solicitous. My mother was delighted with the event. Thank you.

Popped in for lunch, sadly very average. Had a fish finger bap which is quite small and comes with nothing else for £12.75! So many better places around.

A proper country pub. After a warm reception by Nadia we were shown our room which was very spacious and thoughtfully decorated. We then took to the bar and reserved a table for dinner. Food, service and entertainment with quiz night and the locals was most enjoyable. The following morning breakfast was served to our table rather than the usual buffet, and again excellent in every way. I shall be booking in for my next business trip to enjoy the traditions of this wonderful establishment.

Great and atmospheric pub but breakfast is too late for business stays starting at 8.30am mid week.

A super stay again at this lovely pub with rooms. Great food too. Fully recommend the Anchor Inn. Cracking breakfast as well. Hurrah- we will be back.
