Been here on a lot of occasions, every time they have delivered great service and great food, I will definitely visit again!

Me and my mum visited the Bird in Hand 02/03/2024 to pay a deposit for Mother’s Day lunch. While we were there we thought we would have some lunch and a drink. When we walked in it was warm and we were hit with a lovely smell from the fireplace. We were then greeted by a lady called Niamh, she was welcoming and very helpful with my request to pay the Mother’s Day deposit. We then asked if we could stay and have some lunch, we were given the option for either the restaurant or bar. We chose the restaurant, this was very modern, light and spacious. When we sat down we were given a few moments to get comfortable and look through the menus. When Niamh took our order she was very professional but with a funny sense of humour which was great! We chose the sharing Camembert and chips and for drinks my mum had the Merlot Rosé and I had the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. We had the drinks brought over and we both fell in love with our wines, they were exactly what we needed. We then were given the Camembert and chips, 5 stars for both, the Camembert was cooked to perfection the centre was completely melted, there was no sign of hard cheese and the flavour was beautiful, it wasn’t too strong. The chips were crispy with a lot of flavour and we scraped away every last crumb. We are very excited for our next visit on Mother’s Day.

Had a lovely meal even though they had run out of a couple of options. Definitely going back again!

Another great example of a restaurant in the countryside.

We called in here for lunch. My parents had fish and chips and the fish batter was not cooked properly. The staff too it back and did a new plate and this was perfect. I had a chicken and avocado sandwich and the bread was a bit hard. So hard to know these days if that is intentional or bread was stale! In any case the staff were great, the venue is very clean and well laid out.

Pleasant - only had a couple of drinks.

Having known this pub for 50 years (live in the area)….i can honestly say it’s currently knocking it out the park for service, food and ambiance. Had a roast today…everything was superb. Don’t think for a minute I give 5 star reviews easily…I certainly don’t.

What a delightful meal. Good service and the Wallop Wood bitter has to be one of the finest i have ever tasted. Hasd the burger and chips which sounds like McDonalds can do for you but this is on another level. Sharing baked camembert with loads of bread was excellent. The fish and chips had by the other 2 guests again was off the scale good. What a fab evening diner. Big chairs, big table and big flavour. Well done and thank you all.

We usually really enjoy coming here as food and service has previously been fantastic enabling a great dining experience on a Sunday. We were informed no ‘trio of meat option’ yet all three meats on the menu on the Sunday unsure how this works if unable to offer the trio choice at 2pm. The lack of competence from front of house staff who were often very noticeably crowded at the bar on phones. To being completely ignored and having to leave our table to pay our bill with a small child is not good customer service. Slow on clearing table in a near empty restaurant.

We had a lovely meal here in-between Christmas and the new year. Service was good, we were directed to a table of our choice and provided with meals. We ordered hot drinks and chose a haddock goujon sandwich and chunky chips plus a burger Meals were delivered quickly and piping hot. Food was delicious and we really enjoyed our visit here

Had lunch here with my friend, service was fantastic, staff very friendly, food superb could not fault it ! Will be back soon ,definitely recommend eating here !

This Pub is amazing. Really friendly staff, Excellent service and Mouth Watering Food. Can't recommend this place enough. So if you enjoy a country pub come here. 10 out 10.

All food and service was excellent! However, the wine is extremely expensive and not in comparison with other restaurants at £15 a bottle!! The only criticism we have!

Wow! What a welcome! Popped in with my Dad for a cuppa this morning. Really charming staff. Enjoyed the Autumn sunshine in the garden while we were waiting for our car to be MOT'd nearby. Couldn't fault anything about the visit. Now planning to go back for lunch when we have a bit more time. Our interaction with the staff was absolutely everything it should have been and more. Two VERY happy customers!

This was my first visit and was very enjoyable with an excellent roast.

Me and my husband dined here twice. First time was superb. Food was excellent and service was even better, lovely gentlemen attended us and our daughter and was soo considerate and meticulous. Very appealing place with beautiful setting. We had such a good experience we decided to go back, However, we were made to feel very unwelcome, and while everyone’s order was taken at their table we were particularly told to order at the bar. Even waited fairly long to pay for our bill and again had to go to the bar to do so while folks that arrived after us were attended to. We didn’t understand why but we definitely noticed how differently we were being treated and will not be back unfortunately.

Visited with our friends who have been before. This was my wife's and my first time. The two ladies ordered fish cakes which were delicious. However the plates were ice cold and so the fishcakes went cold very quickly. My friend ordered a rump steak medium rare which was almost impossible to cut. The manage replaced this with a fresh one which was considerably better and succulent. My steak and ale pie was delicious. Sadly as we were hoping to return for a colleague's birthday we will not be doing so now. Service was excellent and courteous. Ale was good

Mum and girlfriend had cod n chips. I had steak and ale pie. Al gorgeous. Loved the mash and shredded cabbage. Ginger cake with ice-cream and salted caramel really nice too. And a nice pint of Wallop 😊

The Bird in Hand is very cosy setting if you just want a drink. They also do very nice meals and snacks. The outside seating areas are very nice also. I would thoroughly recommend paying the Bird in Hand a visit.

Unfortunately the chips tasted stale and they were cold but they just said they'd tell the kitchen

Lovely meal today, a pity that noisy workmen came in midway through our meal and sat at the next table. It did spoil the ambience. Also a barking dog I found disturbing. Keeping the bar separate from the dining area would have been better.

Lovely afternoon Was my nans 90th Birthday today (Saturday) she had lovely time Service & Food was great The desserts all looked very good portions Cheesecake white choc & raspberry icecream was amazing.

The food was so unbelievably awful the owner should be embarrassed. I had a burger. This burger was the cheapest most obviously store bought, frozen, gummy, flavourless burger I’ve ever tasted. I wouldn’t be surprised if they got a pack of 4 of them frozen from Iceland. The meat was vile, dry overcooked it didn’t even taste like beef just awful. It was absolutely not grilled, it had what looked like painted on grill marks, but that burger never touched a grill in its life. Those horrible rustler microwave burgers are better than this and it’s not even close. My mum has said they do nice chips. I couldn’t even call what I got chips. They were sliced up boiled potatoes that may have kissed a fryer for a second or two. They were piping hot, but no crunch, they were literally like someone had undercooked l roast potatoes. My mum said, “they must have had a different chef today.” She was beyond disappointed because she said normally their chips are “the best in the world.” She was just as disappointed with her food as I was. Credit where it is due, the bun was really nice. It was almost like a pretzel bread, that was nice. But when I order a burger I don’t want just bread and salt which is what I ended up eating. Service was fine and the atmosphere was nice. If I were the owner I recommend you go in on a Wednesday evening and try a burger. I think if you tasted the quality of what you are are serving you would be really ashamed of yourself. I won’t be coming back.

Only had a drink this time. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food looked great. Will be back soon to dine.

Amazing Sunday lunch and service

What a great surprise. We were looking for any pub that served food on a Tuesday lunchtime and eventually found this place out of desperation. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere both inside and in the garden were lovely. The food was absolutely delicious. Especially the sun dried tomato risotto with roasted lemon chicken, and the crab cakes. Couldn't ask for more. Also dog friendly and a big car park. Thank you. We look forward to coming again.

I went here for a father's day meal with my son, daughter-in-law, and my two grandchildren. We sat outside where there were plenty of tables and had a lovely lunch. The food was extremely good. I had fish and homemade chips with crushed peas and tartar sauce followed by rhubarb and apple crumble with ice cream.

What a fantastic place sort of tucked away behind a big long bush . Lovely setting, gardens, interior, toilets ( important) And most of all fantastic food & great friendly service. We couldn’t fault anything. Even had linen napkins & fresh flowers on the tables. It’s all about in the detail and these guys have got it!! Well done ..Will return.. 😊

My wife and I popped in on a Tuesday evening, having not been in for a long while. Have to say the service from the 2 lads, plus the food, were all absolutely superb. Highly recommended. Plus the place is spotless inside and out.

My partner and I have visited many times over the years and experienced not only the service but also the food deteriorate which is incredibly disappointing considering the stunning location

Love this place, food is amazing and love their selection of wines. Would definitely recommend it for both dining and for light bites. Dog friendly too in the bar area so an added bonus!

Had a nice meal here tonight, service was ok and food generally good would say the burger meat was a meat tough especially as it was a burger, all in all though it was nice. Very clean inside and nice interior.

Never been here before. The service was excellent and I loved my prawn and salmon sandwich.

Lovely visit yesterday with my husband and my dog. Lovely food - we had the pie of the day (steak and ale) which the dog also enjoyed! We did have to wander over to the bar at the end as no one came to us after we had finished but otherwise service was great.

Good sized beer garden, good local ales, caters for large groups, nice decor inside. Amazing food and service.

#### Update #### 1st return since the takeaway. Still 5 stars, Emily and Branden served us very efficiently and even though there were two large groups and many other diners, our excellent food was served quickly and they had enough time to provide a good and friendly service and make us feel very welcome. Asparagus and wild garlic soup is a superb starter, my vegan burger with sweetcorn pattie excellent, with a large enough quantity that we were too full for dessert. Thank you Chef Shane for a wonderful meal. #### Previous Review #### In times of need. Bird in Hand is open for takeaway three days a week during this lockdown with some fantastic pub grub. I am a veggie and chose the halloumi burger which was perfect. All our food was packed carefully, then put in a paper carry bag which meant the bag I arrived with was not necessary. The lady front of house (sorry, I do not know your name) was happy, polite, efficient and helped the experience. Try the olives - these are to die for!

We took our visiting friends here for the second time, on their request. They loved it so much last time that they wanted to return. Excellent food, great service and lovely ambience. Some people say it's overpriced? You get what you pay for. 10/10

Because of am evening commitment, we decided to have our main meal at lunchtime and picked Bird in Hand as the best local venue. It was relatively quiet so we were greeted and seated quickly, with menus. We had plenty of time to settle and study the options before we were approached for our orders. Our drinks came quickly, our meals in decent time. Well presented, decent portion sizes and optional sauces on request. We were left quietly on our own to get into the food, so we had a proper time before we were asked "How is the food?". So we could say truthfully that both dishes were good! We enjoyed the whole experience (which we had expected)and the bill was accurate when it came. So, very happy with the whole experience, and we will be back again soon!

Still a nice pub. First time back in here for a few years. Sadly only one real ale on, at least it was a good pint.

My family and I (20 of us) booked a lunch for my son's 50th birthday.We arrived yesterday the 1st April 2023 at 1 being greeted in a warm friendly way.Our meals were all delicious and superbly presented and served by courteous helpful staff.Nothing was too much trouble. I I00% recommend this lovely restaurant for celebrations . Deirdre Saunders.

£50 per couple for two Roasts and two drinks, and extra pigs in blankets. The meat was dry and fatty, and the veg was completely undercooked and quite hard. Extremely disappointing roast, but a nice interior setting.

Went here for Sunday lunch for the first time. The food and service where excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and although it was vwey busy the food came in good time, we will definitely book again. Thank you

Went to the Bird in Hand for breakfast this morning and it was excellent. Full English and Eggs Benedict on toasted sour dough bread with fresh coffee by a warm open log fire, what’s not too like. Staff friendly and professional, will be going back again. Many Thanks

Had a works dinner and they managed well for 11 meals, it was quiet apart from us. Food was really good with good variety Inc Veg options.

Excellent, quiet, clean, nice lunch, good open fire for these cold days, friendly welcoming , perfect for a good catch up with old girlie friends. Definitely will return.

we had a meal for 4 adults and 2 kids totalling £116. atmosphere was fantastic and been going to the pub for years. However the roast we had today was disappointing, I had the pork loin and my wife had the trio roast. the pork was overcooked. almost preroasted, and then put into a roasting tray, sliced and gravy poured over. Parsnip and Carrot where undercooked. Gravy was oily, roasted potatoes were taken out as they just started to get crispy, Disappointing considering the price, £17. presentation was gorgeous and the cheesy broccoli extra side was amazing, but the nicest thing on my roast was the cabbage. I hope the new manager will change it round.

The best steaks around. Never been disappointed! Rump, Fillet, Rib-eye, chateaubriand. And the rest of their menu is every bit as good. Staff are super friendly and very professional. A real treat!!

Visited on a Monday lunchtime alone and stayed for dinner and dessert. Place is much smarter than I remember on previous visit many years ago. Clean and tidy ( including toilets ) with excellent service, attentive well presented staff but not imposing. Food itself was great...''Pie of the day' with delightful cheesecake to follow ( only crticism was raspberry glazed top added nice colour but little taste ) Whatever keen to make positive recommendation. Food above average standard and nicely plated ( see pics). Prices acceptable. Would happily dine again x

Such a shame that terrible service tonight let the restaurant down . Good food , friendly staff but when you have to wait 15 min for drinks in a quiet restaurant whilst staff are chatting it’s extremely frustrating. This happened 4 x and each time we had to go to the bar to chase them up !! Honestly it was that bad ! So be prepared to wait an age if you do go is all I can say !

Expensive? You can be the judge of that. The price of a large glass of wine was quite shocking but I thought 'maybe it is just a really expensive bottle of wine.' I googled it and they're £13.50 a bottle to the public. I'm sure that they don't pay that for it. I can't see how a pub needs to charge the cost of a whole bottle for one large glass. I know every business is trying to recoup some costs at the moment, but that is just ridiculous in my opinion. Sorry. It's worth noting that the service was great though.

Great little pub....sat by the open fire, so cosy. Great service, our waitress was lovely. A varied menu, lots to choose from. We only had bar snacks...but all were delicious.. Will certainly come again.

The pub is beautiful. The staff were lovely. The food was fairly average, however. I understand we went at a particularly busy time, but we had an early Christmas dinner there, and it just seemed to lack lustre. And the price was far more expensive than I felt was fair. I'm happy paying money for quality, but it was 100% not worth the price. My review, although it seems harsh, should reflect the staff there were all lovely and polite. The venue is stunning. Even under massive stress of the time of year. But, for a meal, I would unfortunately not recommend it here. For a drink, absolutely. But I won't be coming back for a meal.

Great service at table. I asked for dairy free and was told they could do it. That was 3-4 hours ago. That meal was not dairy free ! All I ask is if a restaurant can't help that they be honest.

Went there for Christmas dinner. Food was good. Service poor. Table not ready when we arrived. Starter took over an hour to arrive. Pudding only turned up because I asked. Every drink I had to go to bar as service so slow. Would not recommend.

Went for a work Christmas lunch. Service was fab, the food was good but no wow factor. I had a chicken spring roll for my starter which was okay, chicken was a little dry. Beef main, the beef was so succulent best dish for me. And a chocolate forest pudding which wasn't amazing if honest. Cherries weren't in the pudding but rather on the side and the chocolate pudding itself was a little dry. It also had a cherry ice cream with it which tasted artificial. Overall I would go back though as the pub had a lovely atmosphere 👌

Only been here a couple of times but we absolutely loved the food here. Great service in a beautiful setting, highly recommended.
