Angies Plaice in Doncaster

We have been here before and recently visited for the first time post covid and it’s as good as ever. My dad is from Mexborough so we always enjoy going back with him and Angies place is always our first stop before checking into our hotel The haddock is huge the batter is proper Yorkshire using beef dripping and being half Yorkshire I may be biased but the fish there is like nothing you will taste anywhere else in the world and it’s the beef dripping which is key and good quality fresh haddock. The chips were also amazing by far the best chips I have had this year and for a very long time. My dad was a bit disappointed though that they asked if we wanted scraps as it’s called bits here and it used to have it written on the board so my only gripe is say do you want bits instead of scraps!!! The couple serving were pleasant and friendly and the price was amazing for two large haddock and chips if you visit a touristy place like skipton you have pennies left from a £20 note and the portion is nowhere near as good or as tasty in my opinion and I do like they way they leave the skin on again on my opinion it locks in the taste and ensures it doesn’t break up too much

New owners this year have vastly improved the quality of fish and chips here. I was never a fan when I moved up this way but now I won’t go anywhere else. Really good portions of fish in beautiful batter and the chips are spot on.

I had place and the hubby had cod...both cooked to perfection. Rather greasy, but then that's fairly typical from a fish and chip shop. Rather a ridiculous amount of chips...we could have shared one and probably had some left over. Good price.

since being taken over. this place has really gone down hill. fish is horrible, their peas could be shot from a gun. even the staff are leaving.

Este "fish and chips" solía ser muy agradable. Sin embargo, parece haber cambiado de dueños y la última vez que pedí pescado y patatas fritas, estaba totalmente decepcionado. Las patatas fritas eran no mucho pero, aún peor, el pescado parecía que había sido cortada con un haz láser. Era tan delgada y no valía la pena. Qué pena.

Lovely fish and chips and nice friendly staff. My only negative is that the portions seem to have got smaller but well worth the visit.

All the staff was rude. The food was not cooked properly. The sauces was cold. They never listened to my order as they got it all wrong. The shop was a discusting. I would not recommend it to anyone and I will not be going there again

nice friendly staff clean shop top quality fish and chips (haddocks to die for) I would recommend this establishment to anyone, you can also ring your order in and it will be ready for you to pick up

Being married to a fitness nut means I have fish and chips once a blue moon ( once a year sometimes less) but if I'm at home and the wife has to work away I treat myself to fish and chips from Angie's place because I have never had s bad meal from here and the staff are aleYs friendly and the service is quick. I am not a fish and chip connoisseur but I would recommend this place if you like fish and chips and your in the area.

The male owner is just rediculously rude, fish and chips are just run of the mill quality. There is better places locally than this one.

Fresh fish and chips, white flaky cod delicious. Always busy, staff always cheery with a smile. Downside not open enough 😒

Went to this place once food was terrible the smell was horrible serving staff were good but manageress was disgusting she could have done with a good wash

we go to Angie's plaice now and again and i have got to say its a brilliant chippy!lovely staff greet you on arrival and make your order right away. the food is excellent and the chip shop is very clean inside there is nothing really wrong with it. Anybody whose looking for a Fish and Chip shop i highly recommend this Angie's plaice you wont be disappointed :)

We always have chippy Friday in our office and previously used Daryls on Hallgate until he closed last year. We needed to find a chippy with a similar high quality and tried every one in Mexborough. There are some really bad ones and I wouldn't give an animal the stuff served up from the Roman Fish Bar. Maybe we got them on a bad day. Angies Plaice doesn't have bad days. The fish and chips is top notch and those who buy anywhere else in Mexborough doesn't realise what they are missing.
