Mid week offer great value and choice without compromising on taste. Loved the Pete Pure wine. Halloumi fries so good. Run by a lovely couple who were really attentive and flexible with our slight menu alterations. So glad we went.

Absolutely lovely Sunday lunch!! We booked a table for 13:00pm got there around 12:45pm got drinks and was seated straight away Order was taken about 5 minutes after we were seated We went and had 1x beef and 1x lamb Sunday roast. Vegetables were done very nicely not too hard and crunchy or soggy! Yorkshire puddings delicious and the meat was faultless . Fantastic staff with smiles looking as though they wanted to be there, lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious!! Could not fault them at all! I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try somewhere nice and quiet The pub is the villages hidden little gem and we couldn’t be more satisfied if we tried !!

Whenever I’m passing through the area I always make a point of stopping here, great food, great beer and always a warm welcome from Andy & Adele, not to mention the locals :) The braised steak was a proper big winter warmer, which I thoroughly enjoyed, with just enough room for a warm and nutty chocolate brownie… I’ll be back!! 😋

Called by chance, a few locals at the bar, told Sunday lunch was from 1.00 so had a twenty minute wait. The prices were slightly more than town prices but the the roast beef and veg was superbly cooked . Good sized helpings , friendly staff . Minor complaint the gravy had a strong taste of sage , and there was no Yorkshire pudding. The pub is spotlessly clean , lots of parking and will call again.

Paid a visit to celebrate a birthday. Had to wait an hour while a party of locals who came in after us were quickly ushered to a table. I could see another table with three men who were nursing a millimetre of beer in their glasses while boring on and on about some football match. The food and service were good when we finally were seated. but I'll take my business elsewhere.

Disappointing. Our table hadn’t been reserved even though our booking was in the diary. I asked for a small portion of Sunday roast which didn’t happen and they charged the full price. My husband just paid because they said everything wasn’t set up on the system. The food was served on old-fashioned patterned plates and I found the pub rather dingy. Everything seemed totally disorganised. Wouldn’t recommend.

We were looking for a local pub that did food ,and more importantly was dog friendly , and pulled up The Angel Inn off the internet . What a great find this was , the pub/ restaurant met all our expectations . It is located in Misson , and despite being born and bred in South Yorkshire , this was a place I had never visited . The village is small and attractive and the Angel is well located . The decor is very pleasant and the meals we have had have all been marvellous . The staff are very attentive , polite and friendly . Excellent Reasonably priced food in attractive surroundings served by pleasant staff , what more do you need ? Oh yes , I know , the beer was very good also . Well worth a visit COLIN D

Firstly what a great welcome we had to this establishment, Polite and friendly all staff and the customers in there when we arrived. Went out there way to make sure our party of 8 were all sat together and nothing was to much trouble. We ordered our meals of a great menu selection , Starters were presented so professionally and the main course was to die for,Got to be the best tasting and presented food I have had for a long long time. Care is definitely taken in the prep of the dishes and cooking also. I would definitely book again at the Angel. Bravo to all the staff especially landlord and landlady. 👏👏👏💯

Basically we don’t come here often enough, well if eating out is a treat, you like to try a few other places, but every time we return we feel this is our natural home. The place feels classy without being formal no booking weeks in advance. If they can fit you in they will. Staff are friendly and professional, and the food from a varied menu is freshly cooked. There is also a good selection of hand pulled ale. There is a lovely atmosphere and we would recommend it not just for special occasions or treat!

We last visited about 4 - 5 years ago and the food was superb the operation ran like a well oiled machine and the service was first class. We don't live in the area so hadn't been back, but for mothering Sunday we decided to make the effort. We booked for 6 people. When we arrived they didn't seem to be expecting us and weren't ready, We were left to set the table ourselves. The choice of food was restricted to sunday roast, which would have been good, if the food hadn't been so terribly poor. The price was very cheap, but the quality was very disappointing. The staff tried but they seemed to be out of their depth. So sad to see the deline of a once great pub. If you fancy a visit I would ignore any reviews or photographs the are more than a year old.

We stayed here for one night and would definitely recommend it. The rooms are separate from the lovely old inn beyond the beer garden and were comfortable, well appointed and with excellent facilities. There is an excellent choice of food on the bar menu. We opted to dine in the lovely conservatory from their other menu. The food is cooked to order and some of the produce is grown in their own garden. The meal was delicious, beautifully presented and the service was first class. I would recommend the lamb noisettes with berry and riocha jus, fondant potatoes, baby veg and carrot and orange puree. The owners staff and locals in the pub were friendly and welcoming. A great find in a quiet pretty village.

On arrival was welcomed by a nice lady who showed us to our table, Then a waiter came and took our order. Had a nice pint before our starter came which was whitebait,This was the best i have ever had or seen there was plenty to eat. Then came the main which was a steak not bad have had a lot better the chips were not that good but the rest was ok overall it was nice evening and the staff were very friendly. this was a groupon voucher. I would have rated this a lot higher if the steak was cooked as i asked and the chips cooked properly not limp and over cooked, it seemed like they were warmed up in the micro-wave.

Voucher included steak and starter.I went for the home made pate. Pate was nice but the top is sealed in butter and you get a pot of butter on the side. be warned the butter is extremely salty. I like my salt but this is pure brine. The main was really faultless - steak was great and cooked as requested, chips - obviously home made were delicious. Onion rings were top notch! and my accompanying sauce (Dianne) was very tasty too!Staff were pleasent and very nice/friendlyThe negatives (There has to be some). My pate was served with onion relish (not mentioned in the menu). Now usually it would be on the side or even in a small ramekin but this was plopped right on top of my side salad. I don't do onion relish but I do do side salad so this kinds spoilt it further for me (see my earlier warning re salty butter). Apart from that great!

We decided to trial Sunday lunch after hearing new owners were in and were somewhat disappointed with the quality of food. When we walked in there was footy on in the bar area which immediately took away from the country pub feel . The waitresses were very sweet and the service fine but food nothing like it used to be. Menu has taken a cheaper, less foody turn. I had seafood paella but had minimal fish in it, and my portion had no prawns (unlike my companion). The rice wasn't great-tasted like boiled up basmati with a few frozen veg, not a proper paella. My husband had roast beef, which to be fair seemed ok. Pudding was a disappointment - bakewell tart with insipid pastry and strawberry jam! Hubby's cheesecake was a bit nicer. Prices were very reasonable, however, but I wouldn't go back. A lovely country pub which has lost its lovely menu, and sadly, its appeal.

Have eaten Sunday Lunch on several occasions at the Angel and have never had a bad meal until yesterday. It appears that there are new owners there were three of us my husband and grandson had starters which they enjoyed the disappointment came with the main course ,the roast potatoes were soft and full of fat the yorkshire puddings were like pancakes and again very greasy the beef was cut in huge chunks and was made up mostly of fat.My husband complained and was given a discount but unfortunately we left still hungry and very unhappy at the poor quality of the food.We will not be returning.

We came to this quiet country area because we wanted to visit the 'Festival of the Plough' which is held annually near Epworth. We decided to make it a weekend break and chose the Angel Inn for a two night stay. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed and made to feel 'at home'. After a walk round the village and a wander along the banks of the River Idle we took a table in the conservatory restaurant for our evening meal (the bar menu and an a la carte menu were both available to us). This meal was a delight with attentive service from various staff members including Steve the chef. it was lovely to have a chance to chat to him and to stress how much we had enjoyed our meal. He assured us that he would be around for breakfast the next morning! Accommodation is in a series of 6 rooms across from the pub and with adjacent parking which was really appreciated. I believe these are more or less comparable; ours was a roomy twin room with 'wet room' style shower facility.......all adequate for a short stay. Very clean with hair dryer, heated towel rail, and bathroom items. Maybe the mattresses would benefit from a simple memory foam topper and clients should be aware that Wi-Fi only available in the pub itself. We would be very happy to return in the future and will certainly recommend to anyone looking for a stopover in this area. We extend sincere thanks to ALL the staff; you deserve to be recognised as a great place to stay.Just to say we also really enjoyed the Festival of the Plough and would recommend this country fair as worth a visit if you enjoy seeing and learning about rural life and activities. Look out for another local event...the' Haxey Hood' game/battle?? held early in January each year.

Stayed at The Angel Inn, Misson, on Saturday 5th September 2015. The Angel Inn is a lovely little pub, with 6 rooms located in an out house at the back of the pub.The rooms are very clean and tidy, and come with an en suite wet room. There are plenty of places to park and the rooms are easily accessible to all.The closest village with any real amenities is Bawtry. This is around a 10 minute car drive away. Me and my partner were struggling to find a taxi firm that would come out of Doncaster to Misson, but the landlord kindly offered to give us a lift. We returned to The Angel Inn later that evening and enjoyed a few drinks with some of the regulars and the landlord and landlady. After a very pleasant nights sleep, we arrived for breakfast at 08:30. The breakfast was included in the price of the room. It consisted of a full english breakfast, cereals, fruit and yoghurts. The only negative about the stay was that the yoghurts (Muller lite) were in fact 14 days out of date! We made the waiter aware of this and they were immediately removed from the table. We were made to feel at home at the Angel Inn, both by the staff and the locals, and will certainly be returning in the future.

I took my auntie for a meal here today and we had a really enjoyable visit. The seating area was very fancy, almost to the standard you would expect at a wedding, and the staff were all absolutely lovely, bending over backwards to make sure everything was perfect for us. Even the pub locals were very friendly, and we had some pleasant conversation with two separate groups of them during our two hour stay. We ate from the specials board, I had a pork chop and my auntie went with the chicken pasta, and both our dishes were delicious. All of the food was cooked to order in house from fresh ingredients, and it showed, the food arrived at our table steaming hot and perfectly done. The portions were very well sized, we had hoped to have a pudding each afterward but neither of us could fit anything else in after polishing off our mains so we went with coffees, which again were absolutely perfect. An amazing little place, well worth the drive to get there, and very reasonably priced for the quality of the food and service. Much more than your average pub lunch, I cannot recommend the Angel enough :)

Certainly better than the food served at the many chain pubs around Doncaster but sadly not as good as we previously experienced. It was quite cold and lacked the atmosphere we encountered before, perhaps wouldn't expect a fire in summer but it was a cold day for July. We thought something must have changed and see from reviews this is the case.

We visited this pub for Sunday lunch on 19 July 2015 as a treat for my Dad. Knowing what we know now, they were already running at least half an hour behind time but failed to inform us. Our booking was for 2:00. We had to wait until after 2:20 for the menu. Having taken the order the starters didn't arrive until 2:50, but at least they were good. After another long wait our mains arrived and they looked like proper low-quality pub-grub. All of the vegetables were piled onto the plate and generally overcooked. The beef (which we all had), was 2 circular slices of what looked like one of those cheap supermarket 'roasts' prepared for folk who can't cook. The flavour was bland and the texture soft - not like roast beef that I know.I acknowledge that the management apologised belatedly but that did little to alleviate our terrible experience. They offered complimentary dessert or coffee but we declined as, after enduring 2 hours at the table, all we wanted to do was leave. Given that, they did not even offer a discount. The bill was just short of £50 and I paid by card. On reflection I should have put £25 cash on the table and walked away. That would have covered the drinks and starters. As you might guess that was our first and last visit to this restaurant.

We wanted a nice relaxing meal with our elderly dad but this we certainly did not have. The booking was for 2pm and it was a wait of 20 minutes before we got a menu. The starter came at 2.50pm. Our Dad's soup was very poor but the other 2 starters good. The main course finally arrived at 3.35pm and was not good. The veg was just plonked on the plate. it would have been nice to have them in a separate dish. We were offered a free dessert or coffee but after waiting nearly 2 hours to get our very poor meal we just wanted to get out. Will never visit the place again.

We wanted somewhere to eat that was dog-friendly and more rural than the main Doncaster area just for a quiet, casual dinner with family - the Angel seemed to fit the bill, and this was our first visit.Staff were friendly and helpful on the telephone when booking and throughout our visit, and we did not feel at all unwelcome with our two largish dogs in tow.Our order was taken promptly and we did not have to wait too long for the food, which was well cooked and of a good standard. I ordered steak medium-rare and that is exactly what I received (in some places I have ended up with decidedly well done steak instead, so I was very happy this was not the case at the Angel)! The only issue we encountered was resolved swiftly (someone received mushy peas rather than veg of the day in error) and with no fuss at all. Portions were generous and the batter on the onion rings and the fish was particularly good.We would happily go again - the food was good value and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, which is exactly what we were hoping for.

Beautiful food midweek and on a Sunday with good sized portions, friendly staff and just an overall great experience. The venue now has new owners and all I can say is that I wont be going back again. I'm gutted as this was one of my favourite places to visit. The food was under par, in fact I struggled to finish my Chicken Pesto Pasta and the portion was tiny - meat over cooked and the sauce was basically vinaigrette as it was so bland to try and disguise the nasty taste!£49 for the worst meal I've had in years.Sorry guys but you have MASSIVE shoes to try and fill to reach the standards of the previous owners who were fantastic....

Discovered Angel Inn 3 years ago with my boyfriend and loved it. Food better than the average typical pub fare, a warm welcome and spent many evenings there. However went today 3rd May 2015 and saw it was some new owners. We said we hadn't booked and they said well it is busy and would be a 20minute wait - however it was 3pm and loads of empty tables!Dead flowers decorated the pub - from their re-launch apparently! Starter came Chicken Liver Pate - which was ok though loads of chutney compared to the amount of pate and bread on offer though they did bring out 4 slices of a small baguette loaf n- butter cold and straight from the fridge - would be better in pots. Mains came. Me and my boyfriend both had lamb. The Yorkshire Puddings were flat like Frisbees, gravy was solid! Cauliflower overcooked and mash potato overworked at £10 for the main it was not at all worth it. Was so disappointed, we complained the landlady said that the usual chef was not on that day and it was busy and coming to the end of the day but this was at 3.30pm and the Sunday Dinner service went on until 7pm. I found her excuses poor regardless if they had just taken over, another couple also did not eat their meals and complained. Ok we did not pay for our meals but this was besides the point, and a shame as we loved going there but now sadly will not go again a shame as it was lovely when Simone and her team managed it. Sorry but had to comment.

My husband had the chicken liver parfait - served beautifully. in a kilner jar, small but enough.I had the lemon tart - it was lovely. Only small issue -didn't like the courgettes as one of the veg - not my bag - but apart from that it was gorgeous. Would recommend it - drinks reasonably priced as was the food - MUCH better than the 3 Legged Stool. Try it you will like it. Only first week so just finding their feet so next visit should be even better. Would recommend - 1 course £10, 2 £12, 3 - £15 - excellent value. Recommend the beer and the wine was Soldiers Block Shiraz- Australian - aprox £16/ bottle - great price for a lovely wine. Will be back.

Had heard good reviews of this lovely pub and decided to pop in. Plenty of parking, nice surroundings and even saw six horses in the car park with their owners stopping off for refreshment. Was greeted with a warm welcome and even though they were busy they found us a table. Ordered two Sunday lunches and we were served promptly by the welcoming landlady. The food was top notch, couldn't fault it, the beef was succulent and plentiful, the Yorkies and spuds were superb, non of the boil in the bag chain food that we have all become accustomed with, proper home cooked grub in nice surroundings with friendly staff. What more could anyone ask for. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed. Thank very much Angel Inn, keep it up!

Very friendly pub with a nice feel to it as you walk in. A few people sat with their dogs, so we will maybe take ours next time. You can sit in various parts of the pub to eat and we chose the conservatory, which was pleasant but we had to ask for the heating to be put on.Good choice of food and there is always a specials board. We chose fish & chips which was a Friday special and cost £12 for two people which was excellent value. There is also a special burger night midweek that sounded good also. Friendly staff and overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The landlady is moving on very shortly but we were told that the new owners intended to keep things running as they were. Hope they do and we will try it again in a few weeks time.....

Having had a reasonably pleasant experience 6/7 years ago we decided to re-visit.After calling and booking a table we arrived on time and after getting a drink from the bar we were taken to our table. More or less the same table as before situated in the conservatory. We were the only ones in there and firstly we noticed that it was cold (Feb) so we put our overcoats back on.There we sat !! and sat. So after approx. 12/15 mins a new face came to take out order. The same person popped back in and proceeded to turn on the electric wall fan, she too felt how cold it was.Overall the food was a massive disapointment, especially the starter for two which for the price was only ample enough for one and was lacking in all manner. To be honest we were so cold after being sat for 45 mins before we were served the mail course all we wanted was to get back into our warm car, so we did!!!!We are not sure why the room (conservatory) was not pre-warmed, The management had plenty of warning we were on our way.Another curiosity whilst there was the constant forwards and backwards of an individual that constantly took a trip to what I can only guess was an outside storage unit. We reckoned that this young girl made approx. 18 trips within our time frame. !!!Beer was good!!

It's hard to add much to what's already been said, the pub is great with bags of atmosphere and the welcome and service as exemplary. Given that, I so wanted to give The Angel an excellent review but the food just wasn't especially good. Everything was OK, if a little tepid, but really only average pub grub standard, so we, like some other reviewers, came away disappointed. The inconsistent reviews may suggest an inconsistent kitchen so on the strength of the welcome alone, we'll be giving them a second chance.

We decided you go to the Angel Inn in Mission as we had some family staying in the accommodation there. The age range was 4 to 70+. We didn't have starters as we saved our selves for pud. We had a range of mains, chicken, steak, pie, toad in the hole. All very good, the mains came with veg carrots, parsnips and red cabbage, nice for a change.Puddings well 7of us had sticky toffee pud and it was the best I have ever tasted. Can't comment on the brownie but it looked lovely. Over all the service and food were excellent and we will be going again.

Been today for a christmas treat with family. The pub is lovely and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. We picked this place due to the reviews on here. Yes, the food is ok with some good choices on the menu. I wasnt blown away by the standard and it was a little on the cool side when it arrived, i had duck, husband had steak pie, both our meals the gravy/sauce was a let down, no flavor. And the mas was quite lumpy. However it was ok, but i dont think i would visit again. Pricing was good

This is the first time that I've visited this restaurant but had been told how good the food was. Always a tricky time when it's around Christmas as some places that can be usually good, can sometimes fall down when there's a group booking. So, we were a group of 30 and we had pre-ordered our choices from an excellent sounding menu.Once we were seated in the conservatory dining room, the staff took care to make sure that all the meals were delivered together for each table accordingly. The meals were good and a little out of the ordinary, leaning towards Master Chef style presentation. Tables set nicely and a festive atmosphere created all round. Everyone was well satisfied with their 3 course meals and the friendly staff made it all extra special for us. A place to return to I think and try the regular meals as well.

The Angel is real village pub with rooms. The food far exceeds what one would expect in such a small village. There are two really smart dinning areas and also the pub itself were we chose to stay and eat because of the happy social atmosphere. The menu is not large but well thought out and cooked and served proficiently. My husband had lamb cooked three different ways all of them delicious and the desserts were to die for and by the way their house Chardonnay is excellent. We will certainly be going back again in the near future.

Just returned from an exceptional Sunday meal at The Angel. A very friendly village pub which has recently won the Eastside magazine pub of the year award.Easy to see why landlady Simone and her talented team impressed the judges.A varied menu with numerous mouthwatering choices along with a decent wine list and a good selection of well kept beers.Hot and sour prawn soup as a precursor to a lamb dinner may sound unusual but both courses were cooked and presented perfectly. Will definitely return on a regular basis and look forward to seeing the much talked about specials board. If this is pub food, WOW !

Having lived close by for many years, we decided to visit for the first time in July for a meal. We had heard many great reviews but sadly our visit was a bit disappointing. The hotel had run out of pasta (?) but did do a bigger version of the child's toad in the hole for our teenage son. We had steak, which was very disappointing - very very tough. We did not complain as our mum was paying and we didn't want her to be disappointed, especially as it was not cheap. Sadly a bit of a let down. Simone is a fantastic hostess though, and the staff are all friendly.

on previous visits the food had been good although the portions at times were small. this time we went for "sunday lunch" at 5.30 in an advertised 12.30 to 7pm session. starters and sweet OK but....for main the four of us went for roast beef as it had been very good the last time - a definite mistake. the meat was scraggy grisly and lacking taste. mine was red but skinned over rather than moist as if it had been cut and left under lamps or warmed up. this was denied. I persevered - as someone else had chosen the location and was paying - and then the others started to make comment towards the end. it was also felt the food generally could have been warmer.the waiter was told and the "owner" later came to apologies. she said she would tell the butcher as they pay more for their meat - passed on to the customer !!.the response to the point that the kitchen should have been aware when carving was they use sharp knives. no comment was made to ?not visually by an experienced chef?when I said this just leads to not recommending and not coming back again she agreed !!! this and no attempt to recompense could be interpreted as being "not bothered". very disappointed to be now taking "the angel" off our list.

We visited the Angel Inn after reading the reviews on trip advisor and were really looking forward to it. We arrived to a warm welcome and were shown to a table, the menu isn't in anyway extensive however a good selection to choose from; until the waiter approached and said they had run out of 3 of the main courses. We then had a 45 minute wait for our starters and the portion size of the breaded cheese was ridiculously tiny for £6 the soup was nice but I asked for some butter and by the time the margarine! arrived I had eaten most of it. The sirloin main courses were massively undercooked and we waited for someone to come back and check our meals were ok but after quite some time I had to go and find someone. When the meals came back out the steaks were perfect however they were not returned with the same rustic style chips, what we got were greesy undercooked homemade wedges. We didn't have a dessert and had already overheard that the coffee machine was broken. The manager apologised for the delays and main courses and very graciously took a round of drinks off the bill but I was disappointed with the evening. The place itself was lovely, had a nice atmosphere and could be really fantastic. My husband is a chef and I have worked in the industry and know that sometimes a great place can just have an off night and I think this is what happened here.

Didn't get chance to read any reviews and still haven't but I'd have to say that this was the worst and over priced meal I've had any where. My steak and ale pie didn't taste or smell of ale and the pastry was burnt. The sharing starter was a joke and I do wish places wouldn't serve on wooden platters and boards-haven't people realised yet how unhygienic these things are. The best thing about the meal was the dessert and that was a cake we bought in Tesco's. Will not be back

We came here as a group of 4 to celebrate my mums birthday. The evening got off to a great start when, at the bar, I ordered a g&t and was offered Gordon's, Tanqueray or Hendricks (the latter two being my favourites) and when they came they were served Spanish style; ice cold in a big balloon glass...lovely! Then it came to being seated, it had been a really hot day but we were sat in the air conditioned conservatory which was lovely. The menu was extensive with a good range of specials, I really liked how all the meat etc was sourced locally. I went for the Spanish tapas sharing starter (beautiful) and the chicken with chilli, lime, peanuts etc (very much like a Thai curry but again, lovely). I did manage to squeeze in a pudding of sticky toffee with popcorn ice cream which was delicious. The service, from two very polite and welcoming lads was top notch and we weren't hurried at all. I would definitely recommend this place either for a 'tea' out or for a special occasion, the rest of my party really enjoyed their meals and for four people to enjoy three courses with 2 rounds of drinks to come in at £140 is excellent value for such good quality food. Thank you, we will be returning!

I took the family there today and had the Sunday dinner. I had the roast beef which was lovely, served pink just as it should be. Nice selection of roast veg and a decent Yorkshire pud. My mum had the chicken which she also said was nice. They also do smaller portions for the little ones.We are looking at buying a new house close the area so this could well become a regular haunt. Some constructive criticism if I may:The kids meal came out on a red hot plate and the waitress didn't warn us about it when it was put down in front of my 3 year old son. Luckily he didn't touch it. I only knew about it when I went to pick the plate up to cut the food up. I don't think Kids meals do need to be on hot plates. The music was a little too loud in the conservatory, but that could be my age, then again I'm only 40.Finally, as stated, a good selection of veg except I think it could do with some greens like broccoli or peas. Will definitely return as I enjoyed it.

We were visited by friends from New Zealand and wanted to take them to a typical English village pub. We booked a table for five at the Angel Pub. Upon arrival we were shown to our table, ordered drinks and were presented with the menus. The pub has a great atmosphere and a good feel to it.The menu gave details of the suppliers of local produce which is always good - well done. The waitress service was good and the staff engaged very well. My New Zealand friend asked about the local beers and the waitress provided him with good information. Onto the food - the presentation was good however, I am not sure about the fish and chips being served on a wooden board - very rustic but a white plate would be better. Chips in a basket with the stake and ale pie also not very good. Two of our party are wheat intolerant and the staff offered alternatives - well done this was excellent customer care. The real issue that I have was the portion sizes and I am not a 2 meals for £10 sort of person. I think that the fish and chips was around £12 this is a fairly standard tariff for the area however the portion size wasn't good. Some constructive criticism:-You have a great venue, great service and local produce - the quality is there perhaps increasing the quantity would be a good thing (not to the 2 for a £10 standard) - and please get rid of the wooden boards.Would i visit again? - yes.

Through local advertising my wife and I became aware of "The Angel Inn" celebratory evening for St George's Day.All the food and drink was English themed and we started with an aperitif of a glass of Sherry each, included in the £18.95 for the three courses and a half pint of good old English ale each to accompany the starter and the same again to drink with our main courses. My wife chose the potted shrimp with toast and I had potted ham hock, pease pudding and a "stottie" bread cake for starters, both were delicious. Our mains were venison and fresh vegetables for my wife and lamb shoulder plus mutton stew served in a potato basket and fresh vegetables for me. I love a menu that combines 2 complementary ways of presenting the main course, in this case my lamb. Both were excellent and worth the set price on their own.My wife chose Chocolate pudding with vanilla seeded custard and I had traditional treacle tart with double cream for dessert, somehow managed to squeeze that all in!The staff were very attentive all evening and the ambience created by all the tables being full of others diners enjoying the same experience made for a memorable evening.Whilst congratulating Simone, the owner, on the great food and friendly staff she told me about their upcoming early May bank holiday beer festival and a as yet to be confirmed "around the world in 8 plates" themed evening. I can't wait!Thoroughly recommended.

We recently held a surprise family party at the Angel and it was absolutely fantastic. Everyone working there went far beyond the call of duty to ensure that our day was nothing less than perfect. The food, a whole sirloin of beef came perfectly cooked (pink in the middle) with crispy roasties, a huge yorkshire pudding and home grown veg. The cheese at the end was delicious and varied. The wine list was well put together and the hand pulled beer was the best I've tasted in a long time.We were a party of 27 and Simone (landlady) and her team were faultless throughout the day.I couldn't recommend the Angel highly enough to anyone whther it be a quick pint, a sit down meal or a family gathering. Visited with friends on a Friday night, our second visit after a lovely experience last time. Busy pub but had booked a table so no issues there. We ordered sirloin steaks and venison. The steaks were very good quality and cooked nicely but quite bland tasting. They come with chips and veg - personally I would have preferred a nice salad or mushrooms/onion rings as I don't tend to eat steak with carrots, broccoli and leeks! No offer of sauces. Desserts were ok but pricey and none of us were full after 2 courses. Overall meal and drinks were £130. Just visited for Sunday lunch and was a real let down after expecting better from all the good reviews read on here.Menu was £12.50 for 1 course, £15 for 2 course and £17.50 for 3 courses - too much for the quantity of food you get on your plate. We ordered chicken and beef. The beef was really tough- chicken was fine but only given a small dish of vegetables which were very undercooked. Don't get me wrong, I do not like mushy vegetables but these were so crunchy it was difficult to eat. Not much gravy either. The reason why we didn't ask for more was due to the extremely poor waiter service. My husband had to get up twice for them to a) take the order and b) ask for a glass of wine. We also had to wait a very long time for the food and noticed that the table nearby also still hadn't received their food when we were leaving.I do not know if it is better to dine here in the evening, but I would not recommend Sunday lunch, there are much better places for the same if not cheaper, with much better service. ie- the reindeer inn sandtoft.

We ate here on a Saturday evening after a recommendation and also seeing the Tripadvisor reviews. We called to book and didn't have a problem getting a table but I wouldn't fancy the chances of just turning up and getting one as the dining area is quite small. The menu was impressive, particularly because they have made a point of letting you know that they source their ingredients locally, even listing their suppliers. They also state that they make everything from scratch including puddings and sauces. I was happy at this even before I ordered! The food was really good, I had a prawn and pork starter followed by beef wellington and then a chocolate brownie. My other half had a scallop starter, rump steak for main and sticky toffee pudding. It was all very tasty and perfectly cooked. The service was good, our young waitress was friendly and polite but I do think they could have done with either another staff on shift, or slightly better organisation with the staff. One lady brought us our mains (not the younger waitress who originally served us) and I asked the lady if I could order a drink from her, for which she said yes and took my order. By the end of the meal the drink hadn't arrived so my boyfriend had to pop up to the bar to re-order. It seemed that she had simply forgotten, which is completely forgivable, but what confused me further is that part way through our main she wandered into the dining room, took drink orders for two other tables, looked at our table which only had one drink on, but still didn't ask us if we wanted to order a drink. Weird. After this there was no presence from another member of staff until we had finished eating, so I couldn't even ask anyone about the drink. The drink issue aside (and it really wasn't such a big deal) the food and ambience is great, a cosy pub with a friendly welcome and good food. And the price is very reasonable. For two starters (prawns and scallops not the cheapest), two mains (rump steak and beef wellington again not the cheapest options), two puddings and two drinks, we paid £64. A place with such good quality food could potentially be a bit pretentious and try to charge a small fortune but this place have hit it on the head - its not as cheap as a lesser quality establishment but not as expensive as a posh (potentially pretentious) restaurant. We will definitely be returning!

Not easy to find, but a well appointed, homely, friendly looking little pub. Food quality was excellent, very tasty and well cooked. Presentation was a bit OTT in some cases with unnecessary mini baskets for things, oversized plates and that pretentious 'trying a bit too hard' look about the arrangements of the food on the plates.Service was very poor. Long wait for food initially and also inbetween courses. The young girls waiting on, were nice and pleasant, but hopeless and quite amaturish in truth. Their attention was impossible to attract as they seemed only able to focus on one table or task at a time. We waited almost 10 minutes for one to return with the dessert menu, a simple task which should have only taken 30 seconds.Overall: good quality food, but service sorely lacking. We wont be returning in a hurry, sadly.

This was a Monday lunchtime meal for 6 friends, and due to a cancelled walk beforehand because of the heavy rain, we arrived very early, but as our reserved table was available we were promptly seated. Excellent start, and having been given menus, ordered drinks and placed meal orders everything was fine. Starters arrived, a couple of Garlic Mushrooms with Rustic bread looked fine. My Japanese Karaage dish ( chicken pieces in spicy batter with harissa) wasn’t great, the batter whilst crispy on the outside, was soggy inside and the chicken pieces inside were very small, not breast meat but looked like thigh. The harissa was actually a harissa inspired mayo dip, very spicy but nice for it. For main course, three of us had Sea Bass fillets with crushed garlic potatoes with a wine and cheese sauce with green beans and carrots. Very nicely presented, however I’ve never had a plated meal which was so hot ( except for oven baked lasagne, fish pie etc) in particular the potatoes which were sliced and not crushed. At a guess, the plated meals had been waiting under the heated lamps on the pass for some time whilst other meals were ready. The sea bass was rather dry because of this, but copious amounts of white wine and cheese sauce provided in a gravy boat moistened the fish nicely. However, I’d much rather have a very hot meal rather than tepid or verging on cold as I experienced on more than one occasion. Our friends had a chicken and mushroom pie (thick soggy crust), a lamb and mint pie, and a plain butterflied chicken breast, all with accompanying vegetables, everything well presented. After this we waited and waited and waited, then had to shout to the bar for dessert menus half an hour after finishing main courses. Desserts weren’t great, 3 of us had a gluten free NY baked cheesecake which was very grainy and not pleasant, the mixed berries were not defrosted properly and the ice cream was bland. Others had apple and blackberry crumble and no one managed more than half of their dish, which comprised roughly 70% crumble and 30% fruit. Unfortunately not many complements were forthcoming. Again after finishing desserts we had to shout to the bar for attention for hot drinks to finish with. Coffee was nice, but the tea drinkers weren’t impressed, there was ‘just tea’ available, no varieties, and what arrived was very weak. The cardinal sin, apart from having no Sticky Toffee pudding available was that there was no interest in clearing our dessert dishes away, and these were left in front of us until we vacated the table to pay at the bar. At this time the pub wasn’t busy and staff were more interested in chatting to themselves rather than dealing with diners. Not once throughout our meal were we asked if everything was alright with our good. Maybe they were embarrassed by the about of food left uneaten on everyone’s plates. From their website and meal descriptions it looks like The Chequers is positioning itself as a Gastro pub, but it’s nowhere near to what I’d expect. It’s difficult to pin down an identity for their cuisine, having American, Chinese, Thai, German, English, Mexican, Mediterranean, Japanese, Moroccan and Italian dishes on the menu, but my suspicion is that many of the meals are bought in meals preprepared for catering. I may be wrong here, but that’s how it looks. Overall we thought it was a less than average experience which wouldn’t be difficult to improve with a bit of attention to detail, quality over quantity and better consideration from the serving staff. Oh, and the wi-if was not working 🤷🏻♂️

Booked to stay on fri 8th for two nights. The manager asked me to pay in cash, which I did. He then sent me a confirmation of my booking. Before I booked I asked that I had the option to cancel, as I wasn’t 100 percent sure I’d need the room. He assured me that cancellation would be fine, as long as it was 48hrs before booking in. I then decided to cancel the next day, which was on Tuesday, as I no longer needed the room. I was told a refund was not possible. I then forwarded my email confirmation, which has in bold writing the right for me to cancel and full refund made possible. I then embarked on a full night of back and forward excuses why a refund wasn’t possible. Even receiving a mistaken txt, sent to me, instead of his manager. Stating there was no policy in place but he suggested 70% refund (how convenient) 🤣 Eventually I got 70% of the cash back paid into my account. Again, I requested the full refund as per my entitlement. And I just received more silly excuses and nonsense. Such as the manager was a good person and a lawyer by trade. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Ran by cowboys.

My wife, 2 children and visiting relatives went to your cafe today. And I was absolutely astounded by the poor service and lack of communication. We arrived at around 10:20 and was seated outside, we had our drinks order taken and breakfast order, but was told the kitchen was quite busy so to expect a slight wait… What we was not told was that the slight wait would turn into not getting our food until gone 11:40. When I got up to ask the young man who was serving how long the breakfast would be, he replied saying they stop serving breakfast at 11:30 not realising we had ordered already he said it shouldn’t be much longer (no apology given for the wait). And even then some of the food was cold, and the bacon my wife had was inedible. Will definitely not be returning
