Amora Gusto in Southwark

Decided to book as it was early evening on a Friday and we had seen how busy other places in the area were during the week. Initially thought we may have made a mistake as when we arrived the large restaurant area was empty. But once the food arrived we knew we had definitely made an excellent choice! Between the 3 of us (2 adults, 1 teenager) we ordered quite a selection of dishes, all of them really good, but the standout ones for us were the lentils and the paella. If we stay in the area again we will definitely be going back.

Meeting a girlfriend at the weekend, and we are bother suckers for Tapas, As we were staying at the Ibis Blackfriars, this was perfect as just around the corner. I will start with the only 2 negatives. 1) there was a female serving, and she could do with learning to smile, and maybe saying more than just the name of the dish. Seemed a bit hard work. 2) Need to drum up a bit more business, may be direct people where to sit rather than offer an completely empty restaurant. 7pm on a saturdayy, many would of walked away. Positives, i am so glad we didnt walk away! The young lad who served us was an absolute delight, really great, and helped with guiding us on how many dishes to order. The food was really lovely, cannot fault it at all, so i am unsure on past negative reports i have read. Not too pricey either. One thing, 99% of Tapas places i have been to offer a shot of limencello or similar. Just a tip! ;) Encourge people to talk about you, and come back! Give these a try if you are considering it!

They have an affordable and delicious lunch menu. I highly recommend their Mediterranean-style paella.

The food was less than mediocre. The paella was cooked in a rusty old pan and I could taste the rust in the paella - not pleasant. When I pointed out the rust and that I could taste rust to the waitress she said that all the pans were like that and dismissed my comments. The patatas bravas were horrible and soggy. Overpriced and not good at all.

The restaurant itself is stunning, beautiful interior decor, however that’s where the positive comments end. The place was empty at 6.30pm on a Friday evening compared to Jacks bar next door which was heaving. My husband and I didn’t fancy eating however had promised my daughter we would after having decided on the restaurant online (she’s on the spectrum and not one for noise or last minute change). We asked the waiter how many tapas dishes he would recommend, and which he thought were good and he replied that he did not know. He may have been new, however I would have expected him to find someone that could make a few recommendations. The food came out on cold plates and was all luke warm (except for the paella which was served on a hot plate, however it was pretty bland visually and from a taste perspective) The lamb meatballs were a little over cooked. The patatas bravas and patatas aioli had no seasoning at all. The calamari was sitting in a puddle of oil. There was a chicken and olive dish that was quite tasty but other than that the food was disappointing. Waiters tried multiple times to take plates that still had food on them. I understand making more room, but there’s an etiquette to this, and plates should only be taken when clear, or once the customer has confirmed that they are finished. We would usually feedback at the restaurant, however no one asked how we were, or if the food was ok. Such a shame as the place has great potential!

Been here before and fancied Tapas so return visit. We had 6 Tapas between the 2 of us and a couple of wines each. Aceitunas, Ensalada, Albondigas, Calamares, Patatas Bravas and Champinones. all excellent and good size portions. Even grandaughter ate everything. Friendly and quick service, though place not busy as lunch time. £66

Enjoyable dinner and good value for money. It was a total coincidence that we came in to this restaurant. Nice place with simple but somehow crazy theme in decoration - we loved it. The waiter gaves us good information regarding all the dishes you could choose from. All the 11 different dishes we had in our group was really good (2 dishes p.person is enough). Tasted delicious and going for the first time in a tapas restaurant with our teenagers it was really nice, they loved it. If I ever come here again I would ask to have the avocado tost bread served as a 2-3 small pieces and have the avocado and sun dried tomato's on the side. Really worth the money.

The food here is very authentic, the decor is funky and the service was super quick. Out of the way of tourists so nice for a quiet dinner with a nice atmosphere

Amazing food and decor. Authentic Mediterranean tapas. Great flavours and presentation. A must visit if you’re in the area.

Reading other reviews,I had to check it was the same restaurant we visited! We got the distinct feeling we were in the way rather than paying customers. We were told the other menu besides tapas was too difficult for them to cook. The waitress was quite short with us and by 10pm after spending nearby £200 for 8 of us on an important family outing, we we told to drink up and go. They then proceeded to turn off all the lights,so we were sat outside in the dark. Rude and unwelcoming.

Spotted this place recently, when visiting one our favourite places nearby. Wanted a place where we could sit outside in peace and quiet. This ticked all the boxes. Good lunchtime menu, choice of 2 tapas and a paella with drink, £14.90. Well cooked, good taste, not bad size as well. Friendly staff. A couple of extra glasses of white, £47 including service. Well worth the visit.

I visited Amora Gusto with my husband and daughter after we'd played some games at Electric Gamebox nearby (which I also highly recommend!) What a stunning gem this restaurant is! It's beautifully decorated inside and out - like a little oasis of calm that transports you from central London to a quaint Spanish village bursting with character. Friendly, helpful service - the wait staff went above and beyond to make our meal special and they treated our 5 year old daughter like royalty, which she loved. The food was lovely too - authentic, tasty tapas, washed down with some delicious Sangria. I'd highly recommend a visit and we'll definitely be back!

My son brought us to this restaurant as it had been recommended to him, and it was nothing short of delightful. The food and service was excellent. We sat outside in their courtyard and it was lovely to be able to share traditional tapas. Would heartily recommend.

This is a hidden gem, quiet inside but the tapas were amazing. very authentic and generous portions. Great setting but hidden away so easy to miss! definitely worth a visit!

We visited at 6:30 on a Tuesday and there were only a handful of other diners in. The prices were on a par with those you see in the high street chain Tapas places yet the portions were much more generous. The quality of the food was top notch and the staff left you to it ( there’s nothing worse than constantly being asked if the food is ok). This is a great place and I’d not hesitate to recommend it to anyone

You have to try this restaurant! I'll start by saying that the restaurant was empty upon arrival. This has always made me think twice at a restaurant, and did again. The reviews were good but still an empty restaurant at 6pm was potentially a worry....

What a fantastic place tucked away behind Southwark tube. Lovely outside space and inside is so quirky we loved it. We had tapas in the restaurant side which was fabulous. There is a bar side which also does bar meals, we had a burger which...

Fantastic restaurant for tapas near Southwark tube station. Quirky decor, friendly staff and generous portions of great food. Lovely covered terrace which will be fabulous in summer. Worth seeking out, we’ll definitely be coming back.
