Amaya Indian Restaurant in Milton Keynes

We decided to book a family Diwali meal which was booked over the phone. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely waiter who took us to our table. The tables were separated which we were a little annoyed about as this was not mentioned before. Another waiter came out and abruptly told us to be seated so we can order our starters. I explained we were waiting for one more family to arrive. Within minutes the same waiter came and said exactly the same thing! I was quite shocked and to be honest we should have left at that point. The rest of the family members arrived and a nice waiter took our orders. The food came out and dishes were mostly different however they had the same sauce and tasteless. Curries had big chunks of green chillies. The chicken curry was awful. The portions were small. We went on to order desserts but were given one menu between 14 of us! After a few minutes past, the same rude waiter appeared and asked us to order our desserts now as they need the tables. This was the icing on the cake for us, we paid the bill and left without ordering desserts. This is not how you treat paying customers. On top of that, the food is not great at all and we are shocked with these high rating reviews. Shocking service, shocking food and shocking communication. The only good thing was the young waiter that treated is with respect. I wouldn’t bother people with this place, we will stick to where we know!

I,m not sure you would find a more friendly, attentive, or genuine service than this restaurant if you searched for miles around. Now let's talk about the food. We visit quite regularly and are never disappointed with either the quality or the freshness of the dish. Whether you order your favourite choice or try something different, you won,t be disappointed. And for the quality,the price is always reasonable. 100% I can recommend the Maya

We went here as a last minute random decision and are so pleased we did. Many years have I gone passed this restaurant and always say , I’ve never been in there but we love Indian food. The food was really flavoursome, good quality and well presented. The prices were very reasonable too.the service we received was friendly and polite and the waiters were most helpful. We choose chicken madras and a chicken vindaloo both full of layers of flavours. The restaurant was especially clean and tidy throughout and light and airy with a good atmosphere. Refreshing to see families with young children enjoying Indian food too.my favourite dish is a Ceylon curry this is not on the menu but on talking to the waiter he said they can definitely make it for me next time so really looking forward to returning here soon.

Waited 1 hour 45 minutes for the food to be served. Naan not cooked food full of coconut. McDonald's on the way home.

The day before my birthday my wife took me here for dinner.We have over the years heard many good things about this place.We finally decided to eat here and it was wonderful, the staff professional and the food delicious, i was amazed. Nice parking outside and a warm welcome too plus the cost was really nothing, will most definitely come again to eat in or take away.

Friendly staff, warm greeting and escorted to our table. Good advice on food choice. The food was excellent and the service top class. Highly recommend a visit if your in the area.

Really nice visit to Maya with friends. Nice decor with a wide and interesting menu. As a vegan it was nice to see options on the menu and our Waiter Kam was very good at ensuring the food was vegan, he was a very entertaining and friendly waiter and definitely added to the experience. The potato cake starter was an amazing dish, as was the baby aubergine side. really stand out. Slightly disappointed my curry was over spiced with Naga pickle. The staff did notify me that the pickle had become stronger, I was offered a fresh one but the food took a bit of time to come so I didn't want to wait. It was worth the wait and all my company enjoyed the food. Well priced, extensive menu and would come again.

We have recently moved to Wellingborough and brought our house based on this restaurant being a sign, as our Daughter's name is Amaya and that's what is on their window. My mum was visiting from London and us being an indian/sri lankan family we thought we would explore the indian cuisine. I was not disappoint with Maya, we asked for everything to be spicy, and this was catered to. All the food was fresh and the portions were the right size, not too big not too small. I could not fault any of the food and the fact that it is a family run restaurant they are doing really well. I like that the son spent some time with us and spoke to us about the area and where are some of the great attractions. Great service and excellent food

Visited Maya restaurant tonight for the first time, had booked a table in advance.We were shown to our table straight away , lovely clean white table cloths and linen napkins with table lights Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to make sure we were all okThe food was excellent and very tastyWe would visit there again.

7 of us visited the Maya for a night out and from beginning to end, the food, service and experience was superb.A wide range of food was ordered and everyone had the same view that their dishes were excellent, full of flavour and of a very high quality.Service was equally impressive and courses were served up at a speed which matched our requirements perfectly.I started with Onion Bhaji - two patty's with salad & accompanied with a really tasty sauce. Next course of Mango chicken was delicious. What seemed like a whole mango with plenty of tender chicken pieces. The taste was superb. No space for deserts (the bottles of Cobra took that up).All in all an excellent night in a brilliant restaurant and one to be repeated.

I've been coming here for years and really don't like writing this review. However I hope it will prompt management to improve things. Let's start with the positives. The food here is simply fantastic. Really excellent, up there with Chutney Mary and The Cinnamon Club. Which is why many of us locals forgive Maya its long-standing issues with service.So...the issue...Maya's take away service has been iffy for years, but recently has become truly terrible, both for collection and delivery.This evening our delivery ordered 2 hours 30 mins ago, and promised for delivery within 1 hr 15 mins "at the most", still isn't here. And no way of getting through on either of their lines which are constantly engaged.If this was a one off, it might be acceptable, but this has been a pattern over the past few months. It now happens every time, and is only every met with the most reluctant and grudging of apologies. I hate saying this as I've been a loyal customer for years. However, avoid Maya for takeaway and go to one of the Olney restaurants where they care about keeping their customers...Fingers crossed they turn this around. Their food is superb, it's a shame their customer service lets them down.

From entry to leaving this was a more than enjoyable visit. Excellent friendly service, Great variety and quality food came together to ensure a 5 star review.

We came here tonight for a meal and was amazed at everything. Food is delicious, service is excellent and restaurant is very well laid out and social distancing and PPE measures clearly in place. We were made to feel most welcome and will definitely return as we enjoyed it so much. We have had take aways before but decided to eat in for a change and are so glad that we did. A really great restaurant that we will definitely go back to. Looking forward to going back very soon. Thoroughly recommend this lovely restaurant.

Although my friend and I were delayed by diversion due to roadworks all the staff were welcoming, patient and friendly.All the food was well presented, hot, tasty, and freshly cooked. We really enjoyed our meal, and look forward to our next return visit. Hopefully without the roadworks!Definitely recommended.

Such a shame. The food is lovely that’s why we went there tonight and the waiters are friendly but we were charged almost 7 pounds for a pint and a half of soda water with lime!! Outrageous!! We even asked the waiter to check the price and he went on to say a pint of soda water with lime was 4.50?! Feel very ripped off. Won’t be going back unfortunately!

Another wonderful meal. My family and I enjoy coming here and really enjoy the freshness of the dishes they serve here. I would have left a picture of what we had but there was nothing left.

The food was okay but we were not made to feel very welcome. Having recently moved just outside Olney we were looking for a new regular Indian resteraunt but it won’t be this one. They seemed to make a lot of noise about welcoming their regular customers while virtually ignoring us. My wife felt quite uncomfortable and could not wait to leave.

Such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff were so friendly and accomodating. We had a superb meal!! We asked for something we did not find on the menu - Tandoori Paneer, and they were more than happy to oblige. And . . it so soooo good! They tailored the degree of spicey "hotness" to everyone's preference. Our dishes were all very delicious and exquitely prepared. I had the Angara Ghost - absolutely amazing!! We were all VERY pleased with our dishes. I would recommend the Maya without a moment's hesitation.

We were visiting family in the area and were recommended to visit this restaurant, and it definitely did not disappoint! It had a very homely feel, which is a nice change from the London scene. We felt very welcomed by all the staff and really enjoyed our night. The food was superb and our waiter was very helpful in going through the menu with us. Would definitely recommend visiting this place if you are in the area!

We attended the Maya Christmas day dinner and we were rather disappointed. We were booked in for 2.30 and didn't receive our first course until 3.30. We were not offered poppadoms or nibbles before our starter. My mother and I are vegetarian and vegan, and we had booked the Maya because they are usually extremely accommodating towards our dietary requirements. My starter arrived with feta cheese (not vegan) which I decided to give to another member at the table, rather than telling a member of staff. We were told that we would receive a vegan-thali type main, with a selection of curries and dishes to choose from. When the mains arrived, we had only the one curry, and when I asked for a naan to go with it, I was informed that it wouldn't be suitable for my dietary requirements. The service was extremely slow, with only one younger member of staff occasionally being attentive and involved with our Christmas day meal. We waited for over twenty minutes after our dessert for our coffee and mince pies, and in the end we had to ask for them, and even then they forgot the mince pies. I think that considering that we paid £30+ per person, more could've been done to make the meal feel more worthy of the money that we paid. My parents wanted to ask for money off of the bill at the end of the meal, but in the end we just wanted to get home and enjoy the rest of our day, rather than dampening the Christmas mood by complaining.

It's is such a shame as this place used serve good quality food.We ordered a takeaway, was told it would take 40 minutes so I said I would come back. 40 minutes later I came back and was apologised to that they were busy and it was taking a little longer. 35 minutes later the food arrived! Not a good start. Got home and served the food, there was a lamb passanda and chicken tikka masala with mushroom rice. Both sauces were watery and bland, the lamb was as tough as old boots. Very disappointed as previous visits had been good. I hope this was just a one off glitch.

This is such a good restaurant. Quiet, attentive but unobtrusive service and amazing food.The menu is tempting and not pretentious (thank god).Really enjoyed it. Everything was good from the wine through to the coffee. We will be back.

Often use this Indian restaurant for take away as we live in Olney. Service is always friendly & polite. Food is delicious & plentiful. I can recommend the Lamb Patia.

I really thought the customer service was great. The flavours were ok. I think for the price of this Indian place I wouldn't come back. My other half got a meat samosa and sides were chana masala lemon rice which didn't really taste like lemon. Was a little disappointed tbh.

The food is delicious, very tasty. The young waiter who served us was very professional with a lovely sense of humour. The restaurant atmosphere is welcoming and the tables are nicely set apart.

I’ve been a fan of the Four Pillars footprint many years but after a poor meal since it changed hands I decided to give Maya a try.

Long wait on a Saturday night but totally worth it. Lovely indian food, freshly made and friendly staff. Take away service is great, everything still hot.

Myself, my husband my son and his partner went for a birthday treat. Saturday 2nd Feb. Never been before but had several recomends. Couldn’t rate the food and the waiters highly enough. In many years of going out, especially to Indian restaurants - our favourite food. This was by far the best ever. It was absolutely fantastic. All the food was cooked to perfection. Presented really well. Wasn’t constantly pestered by waiters trying to be over helpful. They were there when you needed them but we’re not hovering. The toilets were very very clean. If I have to criticise anything it was having to wait too long between courses. But they were extremely busy. Thank you Maya for a lovely evening. 4 positively satisfied customers.well done.

great food, friendly service, good for take away also. Restaurant service is a bit slow when they are busy sometimes, last time we ate, 90% full but only two waiters, who kept promising people "your food is coming" ours took an hour. But otherwise this is a good place to eat!

We live in another village about 15 mins away. Stopped off as we were hungry and were not disappointed. The food is excellent really excellent. The staff are top notch. Friendly, it’s the sort of service you’d expect in a top London hotel/ restaurant. I find restaurants out here a bit disappointing in general so I’m glad we’ve found Maya. You must pop in it’s a real gem of a place. We’ve been 4 times in the last 2 months and every time everything has been perfect. 10/10

Went here with friends and the food was really very good but the service was too slow even though it was not that busy, so a mixed bag and a real shame they were not more on top of it.

Our pre-ordered take away meal was ready at the time we had agreed, and was very good indeed. Chicken Passanda - which is so often done too heavily on the cream and richness - was light and had an enticing coconut milk flavour. My partner's Vegetable Dhansak was also very fresh and full of flavour.

Essentially, we waited an hour for our food, which arrived cold for the majority of our table (for the people that actually received what they ordered). The food was not good quality at all, coming from someone who has eaten at a vast amount of curry houses. Furthermore, the staff requested we pass our plates and cutlery to them in a rude manner which is absolutely awful service. To rub salt in the wound, we were charged £15 for 12 popadoms...

I was SOOO looking forward to eating here! The reviews always seemed to be so good. However on arriving to the restaurant the staff looked at me and my friend as if we shouldn't have been there.

We went here as a party of 13. The food all the way across the table was superb. I particularly liked the Chicken Tikka Biryani. Service was attentive and price was pretty good. Worth visiting!

We visited this restaurant for the first time last week to celebrate my birthday the starters mains and sides were first class.What I liked in particular was the broad choice on the menu with some different dishes to try as well as the normal Indian menu.The service was friendly and efficient we were not rushed,and they brought me a Birthday Cake to top of the evening.

This Indian restaurant is pretty good, mainly because of the service and nice interior. The food is average, but better than some other indian restaurants in Olney.

The food here is tasty and rich, the staff friendly and helpful. I have tried all the local curry houses and this is by far the best!! Not at all watery or packed full of peppers like some of the other places!

The Amaya restaurant has been run by a really helpful and very pleasant family group for several years now. Over the years I have always enjoyed the dishes and admired the high service ethic of the staff. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

Amaya is fine, it’s just not my favourite. Been there a few times and they’ve always been ok. I don’t find them particularly engaging or interested, just want you in and out. Food is ok.

Always have take aways, love the staff and the friendliness of everyone , always polite and offer you a drink and food is great .

Have eaten here a number of times. The food is very good quality and good value and was again this time but came away felling slightly disappointed. OK so I don't like poppadoms but when I say I do not want any that means I do not want any - it does not mean I have made a mistake and have to be asked another five times by a range of waiters. Why not one waiter per table to avoid such poppadom incident. One of our party was brought the lamb version of selected dish when ordered and when we raised this, we were met with a look of incomprehension. I suppose I am saying that the service was disappointing but the food is still good.

Not a lot to say part from the food was great the staff friendly and efficient. Will definitely be coming back again for sure and to try some other dishes.

The Amaya restaurant is in the heart of Olney and has been converted from the old Tudor building. It been a family business since 2012 and employees are mostly related to each other. This is advantage because every member of the staff are striving to give the best customer service through effective teamwork. The staffs are genuinely friendly, approachable and serve food with a smile. However, due to popular demand for fòod and service, the restaurant is very busy during weekends with deliveries and takeaways and dinning orders. It best advisable to order your food at 530pm.

I ordered some food to take away for myself and my family in December. I stood at the bar waiting to order and wasn't acknowledged for 10 minutes. The server who was taking orders then saw a man come to the bar and his order was taken before mine, despite the server seeing me first. The other customer was told his wait would be 10 minutes and was offered a free beer or other beverage whilst he waited.

I was invited to this restaurant on a first date and was looking forward to eating here as I never been before. The place was pleasant and we were seated and we ordered a drink and starters. Unfortunately, my date made his excuses and left me there with a false excuse with the help of the waiters. I thought this was not very professional by the way the waiters were acting towards me laughing and pointing at me. I didn't stay after that by the way I was made to feel, and I definitely will not be going back. Disgusting behaviour by the staff, shame on you all for being part of something that can hurt an individual.

As a regular customer, we’ve never been disappointed with the quality of the food whether either eating in the restaurant or opting for a takeaway. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and polite, and do their most to ensure you have a pleasant visit. Would not hesitate at all to recommend curry lovers to try this place!

I thoroughly enjoy coming here, have been many times over the years for birthdays, Christmas, and other special occasions. The food is always consistently good, and are generally quick. The takeaway menu is as good as the in-house dining, and always cooked fresh and tastes great. The price is very reasonable, and the menu has a great selection, catering for everyone.

Traditional Indian restaurant with a full menu and some chef specials. The food was bright, tasty and well presented. We all enjoyed a variety of meals. Not too busy mid week but I gather bookings are advisable at weekends.

Arrived in Olney at 9 o'clock. Walked in. Got a table for 6. With 2 more arriving at 10pm. No trouble. Staff very polite and friendly. Helpful. Lovely surroundings. Starters and mains very hot. Very nice evening. Not rushed. Left when closing. 5 stars all round. Thank you.

Confirmed on website Amaya are open lunchtime 12:00 - 14:00 Thursdays. Visited today (Thursday) at 12:15 for meal. We were greeted by two grinning staff that seemed to derive great pleasure informing us they were not open today due to "cleaning"!.Now: if a any time during the 3 or 4 minutes we were discussing the situation, we had received even an attempt at an apology we would have gone away and just put it down to bad luck.but the very dismissive and amused attitude of the two staff prompted this review. They probably don't get many customers at Thursday lunchtime?????

We ordered a takeaway which was an amazing selection of great dishes with a few complimentary items thrown in. We were told an hour wait for our food, optimistically we showed up a bit early and were treated to beers on the house and a lovely chat with friendly staff. Great value for money as well would definitely visit again.

Looks nothing like any Indian restaurant I've ever been to. Stylish surroundings, great food, especially the fish dishes and chef's specials. Never had a bad meal here.

After we sadly lost another pub in town the building was,like many old public houses turned into an Indian restaurant. Whilst the toilets are definitely an improvement the dining room itself is quite bland and the snug area could be so much cosier for couples eating. It was initially called Amaya but is now known as Maya due to some issues with another restaurant by the same name.The food however is generally good and we have had some tasty dishes over the last couple of years - especially the spring lamb which has a good spicy kick. There are some pleasant staff who are good with children. Unfortunately on our last visit (my friend and I with 2 children) we were asked to move tables (just after our main course) as a large party of 30 people had brought a few extras and they needed the space. Once moved to a smaller table right next to a bemused couple trying to have a romantic meal we were forgotten. We had to remind them several times that we still had an ice- cream and coffee to finish and it was a bit of a challenge to get the bill. The food was enjoyable but the service sadly lacking on this occasion.

Was taken there by a friend who lives nearby. Restaurant has its own small car park which is handy. Friendly service, poppadoms were really nice with excellent pickles. I had a chicken Balti lots of meat with some nice sauce. Good meal will definitely visit again. Good meal with drinks for just over £20

Living nearby is a bonus, Amaya is always my restaurant of choice, the food's always fantastic as is the Service. Jay is a great host and they make the perfect neighbours, we couldn't wish for more.

Went here as a group of 9 for a 21st birthday meal. Staff were great we were all seated straight away, they were very helpful while we was ordering. Food was gorgeous, the staff couldn't have done any more. They were great towards the end when we all paid separate bills. Very polite & friendly staff, will return again soon.

Nicer than average decor but feels a little crowded. The service was good but we did feel a bit rushed, like they were trying to get the table freed up and we had to chase a drink order that had been forgotten. The food was absolutely fine but nothing made it stand out from the other Indian restaurants in the town. Would happily go back but wouldn't be my first choice.

So nice to have such a choice in Olney. The Amalya is a welcomed contribution to the range of restaurants in the town. Nicely converted pub with good indian food and friendly efficient service. Tends to be a bit loud when busy because of the stone walls and hard floor. Take out two again the food almost as nice when you get it home.

We were here last week with a couple of friends for the first time. The food was great and as was the service. The waiters were very polite and it was reasonably priced too.

....and delighted to find this is one of the closest restaurants to us. Bright, understated decor and the food and service of a very high order. We will be back and probably with our friends.

Fresh and clean tasting Indian dishes. The restaurant itself is decorated in a modern way with a pleasant waiting area by the bar at the front. Staff are always friendly and good with children too.

Indian food when done well is fantastic and it is here. This is a very nice restaurant but the evening I went it was a dark winters night and that did make it seem dark and claustrophobic inside, that however was my only criticism, the service, value etc is very very good.

Four of us spent a pleasant evening at the Maya, each ordering different meals and each rating them highly. The food was well presented, well spiced and flavoursome. The staff were quick and courteous. Very little to fault and the price was extremely reasonable. We will certainly be going again.

Just visit for a very average curry, ordered the chefs special and was tasteless with overly salted meat in it. The rice was like it come from a microwave packet. We ordered a naan bread that came out burnt, complained got a fresh one that was just as burnt and not cooked on the top. Overall very poor food the best thing was the bottle of beer definitely won't bother going back

A fantastic meal in a relaxed atmosphere where you can acutally talk as the background music was subtle. excellent service, from friendly staff. extensive menu, not just the usual Indian fare and if your on a budget go visit the Amaya Sunday to Thursday as they do a 4 course fit for a Sultan all for only £12.95 all in all In the immortal words of Arnie We Will Be Back Ps There take away menu is just as good folks

My husband and I have visited 4 times over the last couple of months on a Saturday or Sunday night. The food is excellent, presented well with plenty of delicious flavours, I like the fact that you get good sized chunks of chicken in our madras and Shashlik and the salmon and monk fish kebabs are to die for!! The service is always excellent with attentive staff who ensure you have everything you need. In our view the best curry house in Olney.

Visited on a Thursday evening and was very impressed. The menu was not just the usual dishes and it was hard to choose what to try. Excellent food and friendly, efficient service. Would highly recommend a visit.

Visited in a work party. The restaurant is very clean and atmosphere.The service was friendly and speedy. I had chicken biryani which I have to say was the best one I have eaten Not too dry or too greay. The onion bhaji, naan and poppadoms are lovely too.The room you eat in is a good size and not too crowded. There is good use of space.The loos are very clean too.I would highly recommend this place.

I always say you can judge a restaurant by the state of the loos - the ladies was immaculate, and the food was of a similar standard! We were impressed by the choice of menu - dishes we hadn't come across before. The food was delicious and reasonable priced. Our waiter apologised for the delay when he brought us our bill, but we hadn't noticed any delay. The restaurant was fairly busy, and seemed to be full of regulars, which didn't surprise me. If we lived locally, I'm sure that we would frequent this restaurant fairly regularly!

The food is excellent, especially the 4 course deal Monday to Thirsday which is also outstanding value. Service has become slower of late, not sure why this is but it has been noticeable

Blown away by this restaurant - the levels of flavour and spice in the curries were really fantastic. Absolutely beautiful cooking, we nave never had lamb like it - it literally broke apart with tenderness. Also one of the cleanest restaurants I have ever seen. The main course did take a while to come but I am not complaining because when it did arrive it was worth every single second. Pretty good value too. I have told everyone I know locally to try it.

Wow wow wow the best Indian restaurant in the area, the food is without doubt the most natural fresh and delicious I have ever had. A lamb laziz Balti is to die for. Try the poppadoms the have a cardamom flavor to them. Jay and his team treat you like an old friend even on your first visit. I've eaten take away and in the contemporary restaurant and the food never falters.

Lovely food and always busy Service not so great and attentive and had to ask to be moved as placed next to a large party And couldn't hear one another.

I love going to this restaurant. Very nice inside. They do good 3 course meal deals during the week too. Clean modern toilets too. Lovely friendly staff.

The buffet menu is pretty good with lots to choose from. The atmosphere was pretty good and the food was impressive with a healthy portion. Certainly up there in the top 10 Indian restaurants in and around MK and one I'll be visiting again soon.

We thought we would try a new venue for our team meal and were not disappointed. It was very busy on the Saturday evening so were glad we booked for our table of seven. The service was a little slow due to it being busy but was well worth the wait. Every element of our meal was excellent, nice and hot, delicious flavours and well presented. We will definitely book again.The only negative was parking, we managed to find a spot on the road as the car park was a little small.

Although we live in Milton Keynes and have an abundance of Indian restaurants, we nearly always end up in Olney at Amaya. The food is very good and the service is always warm and friendly , we are made to feel special.

The service and food here is tip top. I have no complaints. Waiters were friendly. And even recommended specks dishes for us which was superb. My first visit here and many more to come. Will recommend.

For an evening out in a good atmosphere with great food the Amaya is always a joy. The service is friendly and attentive. Parking can be a bit tight if it is busy.

Went here the other night with friends, it was my first visit. We had a lovely meal and the service was great. Will defiantly be returning.
