I booked the room at Alderley Edge to host my 30th and my partners 40th. The staff there were incredible and helped make the day/night run so smoothly. I had so much help from Lucy to organise the night. It was the perfect party! Lots of parking space for guests. Food could accommodate all. Friendly staff working the bar. 5 star and would definitely recommend!

Went with friends for dinner. Nice welcome from the staff on arrival and good chat at the table. Decor lacked a bit of character but overall a good experience. Food was good, particularly enjoyed the steak (from the grill) and venison. Deserts were good too. My wife loved the tart tartin and the 'snickers' was delicious. Quite expensive, especially the wines, but would go again.

We were lucky enough to be given a voucher for Afternoon tea for Christmas by family. We had put off using it as we understood it was served between 3 & 5 but when we rang to book we were delighted to be told it was available from 12 o’clock. Having eaten here for lunch previously I was keen to try the Afternoon tea & we were certainly not disappointed. We were firstly offered a choice of loose leaf tea. Despite some interesting options including Gin & Tonic tea we opted for normal English breakfast tea & a coffee. The tea was served loose leaf. Before the sandwiches etc arrived we were given a substantial dish each of complimentary chicken Caesar salad which was absolutely delicious & totally unexpected. The sandwiches were very fresh & tasty & included coronation chicken, egg mayonnaise, tuna with cucumber & ham with tomato. The scones were very nice, although not warm. A jar each of strawberry jam & ample clotted cream finished them perfectly. Finally the cakes were lovely too including the larger than usual Vimto macarons, chocolate brownies etc. An extra coffee was also included free of charge. The staff were all very friendly & gave good service. All in all an excellent afternoon & would definitely return.

We’ve been visiting family and eating here for early Christmas from London for five years now. The service is and always has been excellent. The food used to be superb. What we had last night would just be acceptable for gastropub food - not fine dining. Steak at £25 without the inclusion of any side dishes was simply not worth the cost. The goats cheese mousse was not light and airy as ‘mousse’ suggests. I couldn’t eat it as it was too cloying. Each year we hope it will get better, but sadly it’s declining. We weren’t even offered any of their previously wonderful selection of bread rolls at all with our meal- a basic faux pas and I can only assume a cost cutting exercise. We’ll be finding somewhere with better quality and better value for next year.

Went for a special romantic dinner for two and had the most wonderful meal. This was fine dining from the a La Carte menu and our dishes were excellent. I had the hand dived scallops to start which were perfectly cooked with a very fresh cauliflower and broccoli garnish and slow braised delicious pork cheek. My partner had the cheese soufflé which was light and delicate yet captured the goats cheese flavour perfectly. Mains were Sirloin and Pork cutlet, both cooked really well and the cauliflower cheese was perfect - al dente cauliflower with a very tasty sauce that didn't drown the cauliflower. We finished with the raspberry Eton mess to share. Service was superb - the maître d'hôtel Stuart was excellent - very knowledgeable about all the menu and yet very non pretentious. He gave us a quick tour of the kitchen and its showpiece Josper grill. The bar and restaurant areas have been refurbished since some of the photos on here and now look much more contemporary and relaxed. There was a feeling of calm and quality. All in all a special treat and will definitely be back.

What a miserable experience ,in a mostly empty restaurant the food was mediocre my brother who is a vegetarian didn’t fancy the very limited options on offer and asked the waiter if they could make a rice or pasta dish for him the chef refused to do anything not on the menu .The waiter who was trying his best was embarrassed at the kitchens poor attitude The hotel is now owned by a brewery and there was no apparent manager I would strongly suggest that as the kitchen couldn’t be bothered nor should you and take your business elsewhere

Much as we love and adore our brood, we definately enjoy time without them once in a while. We like to try new places and this weekend it was the Alderley Edge Hotel. Super friendly checkin - they even took our bags up while we checked in. We got to our room, very clean, nicely decorated and absolutely too too too small - we asked for something, anything, larger but unfortunately they were fully booked. The room had a standard double bed, despite specifically asking for, and being told we would have, a kingsize bed at the time of booking. In truth, we considered leaving but it was already after 4pm, we had driven an hour and thought we may as well make the best of it. With only one chair in the room we couldn’t even sit and chat so headed for the bar. Good; but over priced winelist, again lovely and attentive staff although slightly clueless. Dinner was superb, really well presented, good quality ingredients well cooked. I asked for a combination of things from two different starters and it was no problem. Breakfast the following morning was also good - we wanted eggs benedict with smolked salmon in place of ham, and again no problem and beautifully cooked. We would stay again - but NOT in one of their “classic” rooms.

We booked here on the Manchester confidential deal (£100 voucher for £50) so essentially everything we had was half price. We sat in the bar with a drink and had to wait 45 minutes for our table even though the restaurant was half empty. No one appologised...not a good start. My hubby's starter of smoked haddock croquettes was just mash potato, but he was starving so did not complain. At full price of £8 for a starter that appeared to be straight from the supermarket freezer section, a total rip off. My black pudding starter was marginally better, but was overpowered with mustard sauce. Main course was a bit better, my hubby enjoyed his calves liver. My ribeye steak was a bit tough (normally the knife melts through it) and I had to ask for a steak knife, which at £24.50 full price I would have been fuming. It was also swimming in butter which made it far too greasy. The 3 side dishes we had (cauliCheese, chips, green veg) were all fine. Dessert… I saw the chocolate mousse being served on a plate which for me personally was just plain wrong. Maybe that’s how it’s served nowadays, but I think mousse should be served in a ramekin or a glass. We ended up with a couple of eaton mess, which again were served on plates, and was three blobs of cream smothered in coulis with one tiny meringue the size of a 50p piece. Again, surely this should be served in a bowl/glass and be all mixed up. It was just wrong and not very nice. This place used to have 3 AA rosettes, but now is owned by JW Lees Manchester brewery (minus the rosettes). They should just stick to running pubs and leave the ‘posh’ restaurant thing to the professionals. In summary it all felt a bit amature and we won’t be returning.

My wife and I have been going to the Alderley Edge hotel restaurant for 25 or so years. It has been the go-to restaurant for special occasions. Not any more. We went to the wine+tasting menu on the 27th April. There was no welcome drink as promised; and the hors d'oeuvres were presented to our hands....the food was well below standard. The person guiding us to the wines told us he was unsure he would be able to attend as his business was going bust (nice atmosphere) and we did not see the chef as promised to collect our comments. I messaged Mr Scott to tell him of our disappointments and he agreed to most. But no recompense has been forthcoming. £200 not very well spent at all. Beware.

We visited for dinner and were warmly welcomed by the receptionist in the refurbished entrance lobby. She took our coats and escorted us to the bar area where we were met by a smiling waitress who asked if we wanted a pre-dinner drink which were served promptly and menus were provided. We ordered our mains before being escorted to our table. The restaurant and the bar area have been very tastefully updated with quality furnishings. The chosen dishes were tomahawk pork, chicken pie and sole goujons. All three dishes were stunning with the chicken being presented in a modern fashion with very tender and moist chicken and the crust being separate. The pork was a real show stopper and the goujons with plenty of fish and light batter. The desserts were of equal standard with the de-constructed apple pie being the star. The friendliness and professionlism of the waiting staff added to a memorable experience. The Cheshire Life review called it J W Lees flagship hotel and it certainly deserves that accolade.

Evocative of times gone by, this restaurant offered a more sedate dining experience to the glitzier eateries that line the main road through the village. The plates were imaginatively arranged, and flavours were good. Tables were nicely spaced and linens were clean and crisp. The plates were well prepared and tasty. The complimentary amuse bouches added to our experience, and the pinotage was very palatable. Service was attentive and extremely polite (to the point of being slightly artificial). The only negatives were that the atmosphere felt slightly bland (perhaps it was because there were only two other tables dining at the same time), the cheese board was disappointing, especially compared to the artistically arranged desserts, and our bill was incorrect (in the restaurant's favour). Overall, undoubtedly one of the better restaurants in the village.

The hotel restaurant is in a conservatory tacked on to the side of the building. Which is fine in summer but it’s damn cold in winter and we’ve vowed never to go again at that time of year. Which is why it’s been a while since we were last here. There was a canape with drinks in the bar. A chicken and chorizo doughnut , which managed to be devoid of flavour. But that was the only real glitch of the evening out of the way early on. Once in the restaurant, there was good bread and that was a good thing as it took a while for any other food to arrive. We’d scoffed the bread and more was offered (and declined). The amuse was a chilled pea soup, with a buttermilk sorbet and Parmesan crumb – light and fresh, if not overly pea-tasting. Scallops were just a tad overcooked for perfection. They came with slivers of apple and bacon which worked well and sat a bed of cabbage which didn’t work too well. The other plate was crab omelette – perfectly made – with additions of a couple of sauces – a red pepper one and, better, one zinging from basil.Main courses were “proper plates of food”. No foams or other gimmicks, just good ingredients cooked well. Pork came as a couple of slices of just cooked through loin, a slab of belly, crackling and a little black pudding. Sage enhanced potato croquettes and there’s an array of veg – baby carrot, onion, tenderstem broccoli and spinach. A light gravy brings it all together. Cannon of Herdwick lamb was perfectly cooked to pink. There’s crushed Jersey Royals, cherry tomatoes and the baby carrot. A spot-on combination of ingredients. The obligatory pre-dessert was excellent. A passionfruit coulis surrounded a vodka granita. Really nice. On to desserts proper – and both have flavours which you instinctively know will work. There’s a chocolate mousse encased in chocolate and surrounded by raspberries and a raspberry sauce. On the other plate, a gingerbread base was topped with a rhubarb mousse, itself topped with little cubes of rhubarb.None of this comes cheap but you have to bear in mind the restaurant is not only in the Golden Triangle but there’s a ready stream of hotel guests on expense accounts. So, you might have something of a sharp intake of breath when the bill comes. You won’t be moaning about service though. Our server was a delightful young woman, entirely professional but friendly and chatty given the slightest encouragement.

We ate here for our anniversary, our second tasting menu in two nights. We had eaten at a Michelin star restaurant the night before, so this meal had a lot to live up to.It started a little flat, when we were presented with a canapé of.... a cheese fritter. Tasted ok, but I'm afraid it looked like it was from McDonalds. Not put off though we launched into the excellent hot bread, and started with a mushroom foam. followed by very rich flavours in the scallops with flakes of bacon. The pigeon had all gone, so I had duck with shallots, then an asparagus risotto with truffle oil, and a large portion of beef with mushrooms. A passion fruit sorbet was followed by strawberries and cream, which amazingly for me, were my favourite. Everything was decent sized, and the flavours were possibly even bolder than the Michelin star restaurant. To go with that, the staff were only a little over the top friendly and chatty - think 'the chuckle brothers' but definitely not annoying, just friendly. Not sure if it was also a joke but they were apologising to the next table as the chef's helper was new...The only real difference between this and the michlin meal was a little subtlety, and a bit haphazard 'throw it on the plate and hope it works' presentation. Most of the time it did. sometimes not so well.Still, another excellent tasting menu.

Strange for an upmarket hotel where we were the one of only two tables dining at 1.30 and the car park was about 20% full.My guests "Soup of the Day" was enjoyed and it is hard to say a lot positive or negative about "Grilled Gammon and Chips"Nice to see on the bill "Tips are retained by the servers that serve you" and the service was fine if a little "apologetic" due to the points made above.

Really wanted to try the Alderley Restaurant and a good way is to have the Sunday lunch menu. It was our first visit to the hotel, the entrance reception was small and we walked through to the lounge area where we were met by a delightful maitre'd. As we sat viewing the munu we had a good look at the interior which is a little on the dated side, I'm not saying really old fashioned but in need of a freshen up as swags and tail curtains and patterned carpets are a thing of the past. The wine is very overpriced, house wine by the glass medium £6.95 large £8.50 the cheapest bottle of wine starts at £25.00 and nothing spectacular ( not that I'm a wine expert but I have a good idea) and it was already poured into a decanter when brought to the table? Everywhere should have wine available at under £20.I was going to have a glass of champagne but that was £11 and I didn't feel the surroundings were worthy. However, the good bit...the food was sublime! I had the best venison I've ever tasted! Every part from starter to dessert was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. It's certainly not a cheap Sunday lunch but was a nice experience and I would certainly return for lunch again.

We had dinner here just a couple of nights ago having intended to try it for many months as we live fairly locally but have never got around to it.There's a brasserie and a restaurant here. We ate in the restaurant although the brasserie looked fine. I've seen other reviewers suggest that the brasserie looks like an American diner but, to me, it doesn't - it looks like a Parisian brasserie. We were immediately greeted, seated in the bar and offered drinks and a choice of tasting and a la carte menus. Our pre-dinner drinks arrived quickly and we went with the a la carte which offers modern takes on classic dishes like 'beef Wellington' and 'chicken pie'.The service was good here - we were given ample time to choose, order and then finish our drinks before being shown to our table. The dining room was busy and the styling is perhaps a little traditional for my taste but it's a nice, light, airy room and there's good space between the tables. From there, everything just worked. The food was very good, service equally good leaning more towards friendly than formal and there's a reasonably priced wine list and the atmosphere in the place was good. I'd particularly call out that the staff asked whether you were ready for a follow on course rather than just bringing the food and I'd also say that I think the starters and main courses were perhaps stronger than the desserts but, all in all, it was pretty good and I can't say I've found anywhere in Alderley Edge with better food. It's not a cheap place to eat but I'd recommend it to someone looking for this type of food and I'll definitely return every once in a while.

We took advantage of a special price on set menu lunch. Upon booking I wrote down that we celebrated my husband's birthday, and kindly they wrote 'happy birthday' on my husband's dessert (thank you!).We were seated in the Brasserie to wait for the table in the Restaurant (we arrived early, that was why the table was not ready). We had drinks in the Brasserie which were later taken to the Restaurant by a staff. From the moment we arrived until we left, all the staff were very nice, very helpful. The food were all nice and tasty. Perhaps you would find the portion of each dish was too small if you were a big eater. But having given breads for free (a staff offered you if you wanted more! My favourite was Dried tomato bread, delicious) plus 3 course meal, you wouldn't feel hungry after your meal. To us, it was just right. For starter, I had Salmon, crab salad, radish; my husband had Chicken, asparagus, truffle powder. For main, I had Duck, butternut squash; my husband had Cod, pak choi, parsley sauce. For dessert, I had Coconut parfait, my husband had Strawberries and cream, scone crumble. As I said, everything was tasty, and well presented. We will return to try something else, perhaps their tasting menu. They change the menu on a regular basis.

When chris holland was the chef, there was a fair amount of flair and adventure with an assured high standard of cooking. Times have changed, sadly for the worse. Our four course set menu was poorly constructed, tasteless and over priced. There was no choice for each course and what was presented turned out to be very disappointing. A starter of a single jersey royal potato squashed on to the plate with some spume did not bode well. An anchovy sized fillet of sea bass with a bland and unimaginative sauce followed for main. A pre-dessert dressed up as a course was nothing more than a thimble's worth of watery fruit compote. Our chocolate finale was a catastrophe of badly judged flavours and dry chocolate bread. All this for near £30 a head. Add to the experience a loud table of septuagenarian women with a misguided need to shout conversation and this whole meal ordeal is probably being repeated in the inner circle of hell. Although no devil would be proud of the lack of culinary detail in this mess.

My husband and I have visited the Alderley edge hotel restaurant on many occasions and it's always been a favourite of ours. However, our visit on Father's Day was far from the usual standards we receive. It was a busy day and I take this fully into consideration when I make these comments. 1. I ordered a gin and slimline tonic (twice stating slimline) the waiter brought the drinks and proceeded to pour the tonic into the gin. I asked was it slimline which it wasn't so he went to get the right mixer. Non slimline tonic had already been poured into my drink - fortunately I'm not diabetic!!!2. We were invited to our table where there was only one chair - a little awkward.3. A waitress brought bread to our table and then left - we assumed to get butter - we waited a good five minutes before we asked a young waiter - who appeared to be walking around looking at tables without actually proactively doing anything until asked by a customer.4. My lunch arrived with what looked to be a drizzle of gravy - the broccoli was raw and the Yorkshire pudding overlooked so we had to ask for more gravy.5. We were given desert menus and then left for 20 minutes while 4 wait staff seated a table of 7 we eventually had to ask if we could order a desert. Desert plates then sat on our table for a good 15 minutes whilst 3 separate wait staff walked past, looked at the table but did nothing.6. At this point we asked for the bill - the waiter asked if we had enjoyed our meal and we politely told him it hadn't been as good as previous - with a disinterested look on his face he said he was sorry to hear that but didn't push for a further explanation or to try and understand why we weren't happy. The day was not all bad the haddock and leek tart starter and apple crumble desert were lovely. As I said, I understand it was a busy day but if the staff had been rushing around serving people my critique would not be this harsh. The younger members of staff would happily let the restaurant fall apart around their ears. Your 1 credit was an older gentleman who ran rings around the youngsters.Unfortunately this will be a last visit to this restaurant - which is a real shame as it was somewhere I always looked forward to visiting.

Traditional place but nice friendly service. Weekend away for meal bed and breakfast. Superior room was booked but was fairly cramped and old fashioned and very noisy. Felt like people were walking through the room when in bed. Not great. The 7 course tasting menu had some highlights and was ok but somewhat disappointed overall.Breakfast was a buffet affair which although the staff tried hard to appease us after complaining was a complete mess. Food arriving at sporadic times and unable to get a complete breakfast and relax. Multiple trips to the buffet table to get a full plate. Not great again.

We eat at the Manchester and Leeds Restaurant Bar and Grill regularly. We have never eaten at the Alderley Edge Restaurant and would not rush back. I ordered the Smoked Haddock Starter with champ and a poached egg. This appears regularly as a starter at the other restaurants and I love it. I was very disappointed to receive a poached egg like a rubber ball and my husbands was the same. It is not hard to correctly poach an egg. I followed with a cheeseburger which was totally raw in the middle. My husbands mushy peas with the fish and chips had been microwaved and had a hard lump in the middle. Pretty poor if you cannot poach an egg or griddle a burger.

I have been dining here many years, the last time I went I noticed quite a few changes to the bar and dining area, to be fair I did prefer it as it was before as the bar area is attempting to resemble an American diner. Very poor experience taking my mother for her xmas lunch.....Very old fashioned... food at best average... inattentive service....all requests either late, wrong or didnt arrive at all at the table.Then..... we were asked to move into the lounge for our coffee as someone else wanted the table!!!!... the only table to be asked to do this and i had to beg the Manager to allow us to remain at our table to finish our meal with our coffees...Despite making it clear we hadnt been happy with the meal before we left, we were allowed to just walk out of the hotel having paid the full bill without a single person even asking for the details of what we werent happy with at the hotel.

Visited for lunch in the restaurant with my wife and two year old daughter. I booked online so wasn't sure if there'd be an issue with our daughter, but the staff were very friendly with her so no problems at all on that front. They do provide not-on-the-menu kids meal options as well which was much appreciated.Service overall was very good, no complaints. Food was what I would describe as "Safe 3 AA Rosette"; I had the truffle sausage and plaice, both dishes were fine without being in any way exciting, my wife's Bailey's parfait for desert was probably the highlight of the meal. However, it's clear it's the food their customers want. It's fair to say we were comfortably the youngest people in the restaurant (being in our mid 30's), but the place was full... on a Thursday... for lunch. If it's a choice between serving something more adventurous and chasing more rosettes (and stars) or being a little bit safer and filling the place, I'd want to fill the place too, so no complaints at all and good luck to them.Based on what I ate, I think I'd probably be disappointed with the tasting menu, but we do plan to head back at some point without our daughter and give it a try, so we'll see. But overall, it's a good restaurant and we'd happily go back in future.

Ate here last night, and had the £18 three course menu. Given the price, I wasn't expecting too much of the place but was really surprised. The Brasserie is in the bar area, and the tables are smaller and less formal than those in the actual restaurant, but the food was great. I had a prawn and crayfish starter, burger for main, and run and raisin ice cream and guiness cake for desert. All was great. A good lounge to take a coffee away from the table at the end of the meal was good too. The wine seemed a little expensive, but overall no complaints. The brasserie makes a pleasant change from the usual Alderley Edge eatieries, nice to get away from the usual places on the main street.

The hotel has a most beautiful and comfortable dining room and the service was faultless. The main course (Cornish Plaice) was delicious, but I felt that the first course and dessert were miniscule and overly fussy in presentation. In fact I didn't know whether to eat the first course or fame and mount it. The unexpected extras of appetiser and pre-dessert and particularly the chocolates were very good indeed. The price was acceptable for the quality and there was a fine collection of wine. Overall I would say that the food is good enough to be presented more simply and with less fuss.

The Alderley Sunday lunch is no ordinary lunch, the choice, standard of food and its presentation was outstanding, the kids were asking when we would be back. The team made the day very special and we would like to thank all the team for such a great meal and experience. I went out with my daughter and son in law last Saturday evening. The date was special to us, so we wanted to enjoy a meal together in a relaxed atmosphere. My daughter booked The Brasserie at The Edge Hotel, Alderley Edge, as we know the food in this hotel is highly rated. Indeed, we have eaten lunch in the Brasserie twice in the past six months and it was very good. We were shown to our table. We were asked what drinks we wanted, and we ordered those. There were only two other couples in the Brasserie at the time. Another couple came in after us. We were given menus. The dishes looked very good and we were all very hungry. We waited. And waited. And waited. There was only one waitress who was taking orders for drinks and food. We waited some more. Our table was booked for 8pm. We eventually ordered our food. We were not having starters, just the main courses. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. By this time we were so hungry that my daughter said she might have to eat the table. The waitress became aware that we had been waiting an unacceptably long time, so she brought us some complimentary bread rolls and butter (you have to pay for these now at this restaurant). We all dived on these, but it really wasn't our intention when we set out to have to fill up on rolls and butter first. We wanted our food. By 9pm, we were just thinking of complaining about the wait, when, hoorah, our food arrived. We had waited an hour. I consider this to be an unacceptable amount of time, despite the rolls and butter. The waitress did apologise for the wait. I don't think that made it any easier. The food was very good. I had the Alderley Edge fish and chips. The batter was incredibly thick and crunchy. It was difficult to cut into. I did find the fish eventually. The chips were very good. The other food was very good. It was just spoiled by the over-long wait. I don't understand what was going on in the kitchen at the Edge Hotel on Saturday evening, because there were only four couples dining in the Brasserie. Perhaps the main restaurant was overrun, but it didn't seem so. It occurred to me that if a restaurant is having problems, maybe they should come clean to the diners and explain that, so one is a little more sympathetic. Not just be given a plate of rolls and butter to spoil one's appetite for the main course. Perhaps the restaurant manager could explain the wait to me?

This is one of the very best restaurants in the area. Service is excellent, food is of a very high quality, with imaginative presentation and good variety. This is the third time we have been here for dinner and each time the quality is high with attention to detail. There is also an extensive wine list with a range of prices. However, eating here is not cheap but we have been impressed and compared to other equally high end dining establishments this is our favourite.

Visited the Alderley Restaurant with our head chef, let's call it reasearch. We had the 5 course tasting menu. We both felt that this was some of the best cooking we had enjoyed in a long time, easily comparable with the 1 star Galvin at Windows where we had lunch a few weeks later. Everything was cooked to perfection, showcasing wonderful ingredients treated with admirable care. My personal highlights were the tasting of heritage tomato and the panna cotta with strawberry consommé. Both were outstanding. This is a real gem of a restaurant with fantastic staff and service complimenting true gastronomy. Would recommend to everyone. As we were staying at the hotel, we decided to indulge ourselves by having the "wine flight" to accompany the 5 course tasting menu. We live in the village and thought we'd pop in for a drink on a rare night out. We had 2 cocktails each which were okay, the server was pleasant but wasn't sure how to make a margarita. The experience was pleasant enough until it was time to pay. £12.50 per drink. I nearly fell off my bar stool! Had just enjoyed a better cocktail at the Bar and Grill for £8 an hour earlier. When we questioned the price a young waitress informed us that drinks in hotels will be more expensive....As a company director I've travelled extensively, and I'm well aware of the cost of drinks in 4 and 5 star hotels so wasn't really in need of her patronising advice. Was hoping the brasserie could be a quieter, viable alternative to the London Rd venues but we won't be back.

So we were taken here by friends. Thank you to them, we love you both. Firstly we all opted for the five course taster menu. I like taster menu's and the food was really good but ....... Why offer me three levels of taster menu from £35 odd to £70 odd plus wine 'flights'. I want to taste your chefs best offering so why not do that as a single taster menu. These should be you signature dishes and demonstrate you local produce, skill as a chef and reflect you as a restaurant. I like the wine flight but why not offer either a basic wine fight or a fine wines experience? Simples. So back to the subject of this evening. It was good, nice food presented well with pleasant wines. The service was good and the staff from start to finish were friendly. The venue has a reputation for being posh but in truth I found it friendly, pleasant, efficient and a comfortable experience. This is important because some may think this venue all to posh when in truth it's a nice balance of good food, nice surroundings and really nice staff who made us welcome. My only issue was the daft choice of taster menu which should simply have reflected all that us good about the Alderley Edge Hotel.

The party included 2 teenage young ladies who found it difficult to find on a relatively small menu. items that they found exciting. Maybe it's taken us a long time to praise this outstanding restaurant but we feel compelled to do so now! Having dined here for years, it is always our go-to place for special occasions or simply a good meal. Sunday lunch is exceptionally good value and our family of 3 is never disappointed. As a vegetarian, I am always offered a good choice and the Restaurant Manager Jamie always remembers that I am a veggie without any fuss, often recommending dishes to me. He also remembers the pre-lunch/dinner drinks that we prefer. Our preference of table area is noted on our booking profile and the staff are always keen to accommodate our request if possible. The service is discreet and never overbearing with special thanks today to Rebecca and Heidi who looked after us. Now the food......my goats cheese soufflé and exquisite pasta with an array of tiny, but ever so tasty, veg was wonderful and the cheese board never fails to bring a smile to my face. The chicken Caesar salad and smoked haddock followed by confit of shoulder of lamb and then an unusual take on black forest gateau went down a treat with the 2 other members of my family. The food is good quality though you won't ever feel too full due to the small portions. The biggest put off for me was the overly attentive waiters. They were there all the time whether it was to put your coat on the back of your seat, to fill your drink, to remove the crumbs from the table, to straighten your serviette when you left the table, etc. some people may not have a problem with this but I found it an invasion of privacy.

I don't know why it has taken me so long to write a review about the restaurant in the Alderley Edge Hotel. My wife and I have been dining here for over twenty five years, and with very few exceptions, the standard over the years has remained commendably high. As far as we are concerned, it is not only the best place to eat in Alderley Edge, but probably one of the best in Cheshire. The restaurant, in a large conservatory room, is most attractive, light and airy, with plenty of space between the tables. The service is attentive and friendly, and the standard of the food is almost invariably superb. It seems to be, that whichever chef is in charge of the kitchen, the quality and presentation of the food is first class. Sunday lunch is a delightful gastronomic and social occasion, as well as excellent value. It makes such an agreeable change to be able to dine in gracious surroundings without the Mrs. Cheshire's "who can laugh loudest" competitions so much in evidence elsewhere in the bars of Alderley Edge and Wilmslow. The recent addition of the Bistro provides a relaxing and less formal environment, but still with the consistently high standards of food preparation, presentation, and service. The weekday lunch menu offering any three course from the menu for £19.99 represents excellent value. Try the syrup sponge pudding for an object lesson in airy light sponge and amusing presentation.
