Excellent decor and friendly atmosphere. We loved the food and enjoyed a Sunday roast last weekend. A great choice of wines and a splendid view of the sea. Only thing we did not enjoy as much was the roast potatoes were a bit hard to eat and could have done with more gravy but the beef was honest first class! Will be back!

We haven’t been to The Albion for a long time but was so happy to see their new resident chef was one of our favourites! The food did not disappoint,Tomas always delivers. Burratta was perfect , the Chicken Shnitzel was large and absolutely delicious! The crumble was again really tasty a good sized portion. The service was very slow and our food came before our drinks. There only seemed to be 2 staff on when we arrived and there was a wedding in the next room, so maybe this was why. But we genuinely had a great evening and food was fab.

Heard that the chefs from Waverley House were doing a residency in the kitchen so had to try. Food was fantastic, as expected. Looking forward to see what else goes on the menu as the season progresses. Some lovely wines on the list. Service was OK, definitely a marked improvement over previous visits but room for improvement. Will be back again and again while these chefs are running the kitchen.

I arranged to meet a friend who I hadn't seen for two years at the Dining rooms, for his birthday this day - my treat. I'd seen the menu online, and knew from past visits, that they also had a bar food menu with steak burgers which I loved, so I was excited to go. I knew if the menu didn't suit, we would both find something we liked to eat on the bar menu. Arriving, the menu wasn't the one I'd viewed on their website when considering my booking (and still isn't as I write this). It didn't float my boat, so I asked for the bar food menu, only to be told that it ended some months ago. I was gutted as their steak burgers were divine. I hope they rectify this error and keep their menu on-line updated. It was my friend's birthday, so I put on a brave face as I didn't really want to take him to Spoonies down the road. Reviewing the menu again, the only dish that looked my sort of food was the beef. I am a bit particular about my food elements. Neither truffle or mash do it for me. I asked for fries instead. When my friend ordered the same I breathed a sigh of relief that he managed to find a dish he liked to try too. When he asked for no veggies. I was in heaven and copied him removing them off my order too. I also have a sulphite allergy so the red wine jus was a risk I took. Thankfully, I asked the server to put it in a separate dish, which was good because after two dips I sadly had to stop imbibing. Although this doesn't sound good so far, we were both singing the praises of the chef as we dipped into the wonderfully cooked plates. The beef was tender, exquisitely cooked and flavoured. The red wine jus was heavenly, I only wish I could have eaten more. My friend cleaned his plate and we both agreed - absolutely scrummy. We had forgone the starters as nothing appealed. I decided I had room for a dessert and choose the classic, a chocolate brownie, with caramel and vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, My friend? The fruit crumble with ice cream. Both were amazing and precisely as required to end a good meal. Crockery-wise not so good. The crumble was served in a bowl full to the limit and while it is great to have a decent amount of food, with the ice cream sat on the top higher than the rim of the bowl, there was very little room to move the food about in the bowl. Conversely, my bowl was so wide, that every time I put my spoon down, resting it on the side of the bowl, it slid down into the chocolate sauce. It was funny licking it off initally, but became annoying after the sixth lick. Either a spoon rest, a flat plate under the bowl, or a simple flat plate for the dessert would have been better. I was also disappointed not to be able to have my favourite Mojito cocktail due to the lack of mint on the premises. Finally, the seating. Some of the chairs looked nice and comfortable in the room, our's were not. I can only assume the staff, like the crockery issue, don't actually sit down and try their own wares. I can understand sitting on a wooden chair for a short while, but for two hours? Both of us are relatively short in height. My feet just reached the ground but had to contend with the wooden ridge at the front of the chair. This dug into the back of my thighs. My friend said his wasn't much better even including the "church biscuit" cushion on his chair. I snaffled two lovely unused comfy cushions off the sofas nearby. Staff need to review their wooden chair cushions and maybe invest in some that reach the edges of the chairs. Overall, the experience was interesting and the food of a high quality cooked to perfection. The staff remained polite and attentive and the elegant environment was beautiful - as usual. Of course I'll return, sooner if the steak burgers go back on the menu and the chairs get a new life with better cushions.

I stayed at the Albion recently and as I love hotel breakfasts I had to mention that this one is one of the better one I have experienced in the UK! There is a menu of classic hot English offering, but also delicious breads and yogurt. All local, fresh and of the best quality. Great coffee as well. The staff are very helpful if you want to design your own plate, and order a smaller portion or order outside the menu.

We haven't been at The Dining rooms for over a year but was keen to try once we heard there was a new chef. We were so underwhelmed with the general lack of customer service and the dis interest of the staff The bar area was clutterd with washing up bowls and we had to ask for a drink whilst 3 staff stood at the end chatting. The food was less than average and we will be cancelling Mother's Day next week.Such a shame but it seems as if no one cares

We had a lovely table, service was excellent, efficient and professional whilst remaining friendly and relaxed. It was New Years Day so the menu was short but all the dishes were sublime. Our party of guests had different things but everyone was delighted with their orders. The quality of the food was fantastic, compliments to the chef. The staff were friendly enough although lacked a sense of urgency when taking orders for food and drinks between courses. I would say the quality of the food was ok but overpriced for what it was. The steak was alright but certainly not worth close to £30. The cod was again tasty but quite a small portion. Overall pretty average for both food and service. I expected it but more.

Apart from the service being painfully slow (it took 45 minutes between asking for the bill and eventually paying), the roast beef itself was poor....very overcooked and only 2 transparently thin slices. On mentioning this to the person taking the payment, I was told by her that this was not her responsibility as she worked on reception. As far as I am concerned, she either accepts responsibility or goes to get a manager; she did neither. We have eaten here a number of times since the Albion opened. Occasionally there have been slight glitches but we have continued to eat here sporadically and enjoyed what we ate. However our experience today (30/6) was such that this is our swansong. We arrived to find the receptionist deep in conversation with 2 guests who were standing in such a way we had to weave round them to get to the restaurant. As returning diners, we knew our way. I would add that conversation continued for some time after we sat down. Our choices for lunch were, first course: 2 x Caesar salad and 1 Smoked duck. The Caesar salads were fine, white anchovies, salmon, a lightly boiled egg, apart from the croutons which were so hard it was impossible to spear them with a fork so both of us resorted to picking them up. We drew the server’s attention to this problem. The smoked duck was an elegantly prepared dish which tasted good, but with a rather small amount of duck Our second courses were 2 x BBQ Oyster Mushroom, fermented hispi (small sweet pointed cabbage) and smoked pepper.. Nowhere have I found a recipe for barbecuing Oyster mushrooms. I did findone for sautéing them which says that the texture of the mushrooms are as important that as their taste. It went on say that whilst they can be chewy, sautéed in olive oil they will become silky, creamy and maintain a chicken like texture. I can only say that it’s a shame they weren’t cooked like that. We were presented with plates that had the mushroom cut in 4 on top of the hispi which was placed on two leaves of hispi - mine was so burnt it, along with the mushroom (apart from the very top) were inedible. The hispi mixture was good, although we didn’t see any evidence of smoked pepper. Our guest ordered the Home made Guinness bread rare roast beef sandwich with horseradish. She reported the beef was very good and plentiful, the horseradish she found overwhelming and then there was the bread ……. It was toasted/ barbecued - very prominent burnt lines across it - beyond any hope of eating it as a sandwich.Sadly I didn’t take a photo of what returned to the kitchen. We suggested to our server that given we had just paid £18 (£36) for what was essentially a cabbage dish, that perhaps there was some leeway to reduce the bill. She did come with bread and butter, whilst that was a gesture on her part, we don’t eat bread and it was inappropriate, We discovered that there was nobody in the building - neither Ben, Emma (the owners) or the Restaurant manager) Surely if there is no management team member working staff need to be given authority to make a decision when such a situation arises. Our guest picked up on the server’s attitude, which in terms of customer service left something to be desired. We did notice that when the second two diners came in she was at the far end of the long bar, they just stood around and when she noticed them her response was ‘I’ll be with you in a minute! My only other comment is that on Monday, I tried to book on line only to find whatever time and day I chose I got a “no tables available message” (which may have accounted for the fact only 3 tables, including ours were occupied!) I then phoned the hotel, made the booking for today and was assured that the person who answered the phone would deal with it immediately. Imagine my surprise when I went on the Albion website whilst still in the restaurant , and tried to book a table - “no tables available.” popped up again. So I told the receptionist who indicated she would get on to the IT company!

This promised more than it delivers. The ambiance and price sets an expectation it unfortunately didn’t deliver on. The food was okay, nothing special. The hostess was excellent attentive and helpful. However the meal was served without the accompanying potatoes and vegetables we ordered which came when we reminded about 4minutes later with no acknowledgement or apology. The cheese board at £12 really does need either chutney or butter, whilst grapes are lovely it was still dry. At £150 for two courses for three people this felt expensive compared to nearby meals at a slightly lower bill which were more tasteful.

I am so sad to be giving low marks here but I have to unfortunately. The bar staff were fantastic and the cocktails were amazing. Our waitress was lovely and not to blame but the way the manager and chef dealt with my dairy allergy was a shambles and negligent. I told the waitress about my allergy and she clearly wrote it down but when my steak came it was swimming in butter. It was only because I noticed that I didn’t eat the steak and when I queried it, they asked me if it was “just an intolerance” or an “actual allergy” - like it matters. They brought me a new steak and the waitress said that the chef said it was “his bad” a flippant remark that made me cross. They gave me a free drink which was nice but my evening could have ended very badly! The actual food was very very good and the restaurant is a lovely place to be. They just need to get a clear process in place to protect people with intolerances and allergies. If the steak thing hadn’t happened then my review would have been completely different.

Very average Sunday lunch. We waited for an hour and 15 mins for our main course, and the potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were cold. We sent them back and got hot potatoes but the Yorkshire pudding was still cold. The beef was nice and the vegetables were cooked well but overall for a £180 Sunday lunch, for 4 adults and x2 children, it really wasn’t worth it.

There was a slight delay due to a few large groups of people as it was Father’s Day - but we were kept informed and when we received our food it was absolutely delicious. Happy to wait a bit longer as long as we are kept up to date, service is friendly and food is good once received, however we have eaten here on a number of occasions and I should point out that it isn’t the norm for there to be a wait for food. This is a lovely venue for a special Sunday lunch and it’s also dog friendly which is important for us.

At last! Somewhere where a vegetarian meal is not just pasta. The beetroot salad was full of flavour and the mushroom main course was delicious. For the meat eater the mackerel starter and steak sandwich hit the spot! The only criticism was that there was already a service charge on the bill…..we prefer to give our own….and would have liked fresh fruit (strawberries) on all days, not just Sundays. Good food, good service and good music.

We have stayed here twice and eaten here several times. We like it a lot and will come back On this occasion ,the menu was not really for us where main courses were concerned - too many vegetarian type options and the ubiquitous sea bass. We both were left to choose sirloin steak which was a little too fatty for us albeit well cooked . Ambience and staff were excellent as always.

Our first time visiting the hotel, definitely won’t be the last. The meal was excellent, all food hot and prepared exactly as requested. Portions good size. The staff were friendly and all worked with smiles.

Really quite disappointing. We came as a family for tea and cakes after a memorial and were pre booked. We were a group of 18. It took an incredibly long time to even take a drinks order to the point one of our group had to leave as they had small children. It took nearly an hour for coffees and teas to arrive and even then one of the drinks was missed. It took over an hour for cakes to arrive and again some were missing. The cakes themselves although large were incredibly dry, you'd get better from a supermarket. The service was virtually non existent and miserable when it did turn up (with the exception of the young lad bringing out the cakes). The lady who greeted us almost seemed annoyed we were there. When our order was followed up for the second time we were told they'd had to make a lot of drinks and it would be out soon. We'd been there the best part of an hour and it really wasn't busy. If you want a 4/5 star experience, this place might look pretty but this isn't it.

Our experience at the Albion was very good. The starters were very good and the steak was cooked perfectly. My wife had the sea bass and it was delicious. Deserts were excellent too and our drinks were very well made. Our server was excellent and very helpful.

Meal was ok, nothing special but pricey for what you get. Asked for extra potatoes and no Yorkshire, they gave the same amount of potatoes and still added a Yorkshire pudding. It was pleasant but nothing special. Been there previously for cocktails and had a much better time.

Disappointing Roast, shame really as we ate here a few weeks ago and it was outstanding . Raw roast carrots , no cheese in the cauliflower cheese, reheated roast potatoes .

Don’t let the price out you off, you get what you pay for and will not be disappointed. Huge cocktail list with some fun takes on classics as well as the favourites. Very nice restaurant decor and atmosphere. Highly recommended!

This is an immensely relaxed place but with high standards in the kitchen. The restoration of the building has been accomplished to a high standard. All the staff are warm and very friendly.

Ambience lovely and service ok; however, my beef was fatty and had a lot of gristle, also vegetables came out lukewarm; such a shame!!! Would return if they did a roast chicken dinner.
