Only ate the roast. Decor is 10/10, great location! We really enjoyed our meal and experience 😁 Roast was an amazing size, but some of the potatoes and stuffing left a lot to be desired, were a bit overcooked, which is why it doesn't get 5 stars. Still highly recommend!

The George and Heart is absolutely charming. The decor is an eclectic mix of Victorian maximalism and funky modernism. The 17th century coach house maintains the odd creaky floorboard to remind you of the stories it has gathered over the centuries. Finally the team are excellent. Chilled, welcoming and ready to ensure your stay is lovely. Highly recommended.

We had an unforgettable afternoon at this pub in Margate! The roast dinner was absolutely incredible—tender, perfectly seasoned, and served with generous portions of all the classic trimmings. It truly felt like a home-cooked meal, but elevated. The service was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. They also went above and beyond for my girlfriend’s birthday, surprising us with a beautifully arranged cheeseboard for dessert, complete with a birthday candle. This thoughtful touch made the afternoon feel really personal and memorable. We were so impressed by the attention to detail and how welcome they made us feel. We can’t wait to come back next time we’re in town!

Lovely quirky building and interior design, very fitting. Service, although very friendly, was a bit hit-and-miss. Not a great range of alcohol free options and menu was also a bit limited with items that weren't available as well. The food we did have was lovely though. Overall, it was enjoyable but a bit disappointing.

Amazing food and drink. Not your regular pub, but something for a finer palate. The food is almost sophisticated, well balanced, and of high quality. Don't expect pies and the like. Prices are not high, higher than your average pub, but great for the quality offered, paired with high quality service. I'm rating this as a place to eat. We didn't stay at the hotel part, which Google would like me to rate instead.

Came for dinner here on our first night in Margate. This was easily the best pub meal I have had in several years. Had the honey chilli chicken burger from the grill with a Caesar salad plus some Parmesan truffle fries. Flavour on the chicken was incredible and the sides were delicious with great portion sizes. The Northdown Margate lager was also lovely

Family dinner at this local restaurant and we were not very impressed. Old pub building which was dark and hard to see the food. Service and waiting times were slowish and service was a bit vague in my view, but we did get everything and the girls serving were polite. We ordered a Cheeseburger which came with very salty fries. Kid Burger, Heritage Tomato Tarte, Halibut and I had Pork Fillet, this came with a bit of potato, a sliced apple and a huge mound of some sort of cabbage which seemed to take over the plate and in my humble view ruined the meal. They added a service charge of 10% which I always find annoying so of course did not leave a tip.

We have wanted to try the George and Heart for ages and really fancied a roast so booked in. Then we read the reviews on here and got worried.... No need, service was friendly but not OTT, food was delicious ( 2 x roast pork with yorkies, 1 x roast beef and a cauli cheese side), setting outside was lovely and food wasn't overpriced. So thank you G and H , we'll come again.

2/10 Wouldn't recommend coming here for a Sunday roast dinner. We ordered 2 Roasts, The Beef; which was a little stringy, came with a incredibly dry Yorkshire Pudding and slightly overdone Chicken w/Stuffing (they forgot the stuffing and when it came it was so small, dry and tasteless 😭) We had high hopes for the roast potatoes but wow they were SOOO hard and overdone.... especially for the price of £20 🙅🏻♀️ The one carrot and gravy was a tad thin but tasted nice. To top it off ALL the glasses all had lipstick on it, but our waitress was so nice about it all and changed out glasses immediately. The atmosphere in the garden area was absolutely lovely though.

I was really looking forward to a great roast dinner at the George. Read some reviews. Seemed solid. Got there…ordered…and good lord, I have no idea where these reviewers were eating but it can’t have been the George. It was quite honestly the WORST roast dinner I have ever had. Iceland frozen roast would have been preferable. The chicken was anaemic, small and looked like it had been boiled not roasted (the skin was just…slimy). The potatoes…potatoes MAKE a roast dinner, and I don’t know how the chef managed to make these so dry, and chewy and oddly powdery in the middle. It takes great skill to ruin a potato so effectively. Honestly, bravo. There were no greens as advertised and every table seemed to have to ask for their stuffing. I wish I hadn’t. The sage was SO overpowering it was like eating soap. As for the Yorkshire pudding (which you had to pay an extra £1 for)? If I were from Yorkshire I would have gone to the kitchen and slapped the chef. Chewy. Dry. Sad. Aunt Bessie would be ashamed of you. So bad. The one carrot we had was okay. The gravy was watery and not much of it. I don’t know how the chef managed to avoid any flavour leaking into it, but they did. And all this for £20. Horrible. Please, for the love of roasts, don’t do this to yourself. You’re worth crispy, fluffy roasties, a deep, rich, flavourful gravy and a Yorkshire pud so light and crisp you could float away on it…But you won’t find any of this at the George & Heart.

So we thought we’d try this place after someone telling me they do a nice meal. So we ordered a roast beef and a roast pork with a side of cauliflower cheese, menu reads very well. That’s where it ends, a beef roast, cauli cheese and a bowl of roast potatoes gets brought out, I thought oh that’s nice, you get extra potatoes. We are sat in anticipation for the roast pork, so I make a start on the beef (chewy and fatty) I get the waiting staffs attention to ask where the pork is, and it’s quite clear he knows he has made an error on the ordering of our food. He takes away the potatoes and ensures us the pork will be out very soon. I have by the point of the pork coming out finished what was semi edible of the beef roast. I tell the waiter that I will not be paying for the pork as we have come out for a meal together, not to sit and watch each other eat. The pork was removed from the bill and I also asked for the service charge to be removed from the bill to which he told me wasn’t optional. I informed him that if he doesn’t want to remove the service charge then I won’t be paying for any of the terrible food which we had received. Poor service, chewy fatty meats, rock hard potatoes and a dried up carrot and some sugar snap peas and samphire??? I certainly won’t be returning and I would recommend finding an alternative place if you’d like to enjoy a nice roast dinner. 👎

Fawtly Towers seemingly run by teenagers! I hate leaving a bad review- every place has their off days and maybe we just caught this place on theirs- but oh my! Literally do not know where to start. Drinks order messed up- wine tasted nasty. Ordered Sunday roast- no Yorkshire puddings left (literally just whisk up some egg and flour and problem sorted!). Service shockingly amateur- kids who really didn’t give a toss. Food arrived and tbh possibly the worst roast dinner I’ve ever eaten. Tiny portion with veg consisting of 3 green beans, a load of spring onions (?) and samphire (?????). Cauliflower cheese cold and the whole thing drowning in gravy saltier than the North Sea. Whole thing had a sense of the parents going away and leaving the kids in charge of the business! Really, really bad and not cheap either! After having wanting to visit here for some time seeing as it’s just around the corner from where I live, I was left feeling very disappointed. To start with, I waited about 25 minutes for someone to come and take my order. When my food arrived I still had to wait for about 10 minutes for my drink. This never came so I went in and asked for it. The man behind the bar was unaware I’d even ordered one. My food was tasteless. Could not taste the crab, chilli or lime in the crab bagel. I had to ask for serviettes and cutlery to eat this with as it just fell apart and was very soggy and mushy. Also had a very lengthy wait for the bill. Will be hesitant to return.

What a brilliant evening in every way! From the moment my sister and I walked through the door, we felt totally at home. Ben, our amazing waiter, was completely fantastic. When he found out we were celebrating my birthday, he went over and above the call of duty! Everything was perfect. We started with Beignets, melting in the mouth and full of taste, plus scallops perfectly cooked. Then my sister had the best fillet steak ever - I would have had "food envy" except my pork fillet was equally delicious and succulent. We didn't have space for dessert, so I was offered a "birthday" glass of red wine on the house. Cannot praise the food highly enough but Ben definitely made the evening super-celebratory and special. Thank you so much!

We were on a break away for my 40th birthday and stumbled upon the pub whilst we were wandering around. We stopped off for a drink in the sun and then decided we'd book a table for my birthday meal. We're SO glad we did as we could not praise this place more. The team were amazing and friendly, and the food was 10/10. The Fillet steak was the best steak my wife has ever had and was cooked to perfection. The butter sauce with it was divine. The staff were really knowledgeable about gluten free options and could not be more helpful. Espresso Martinis were flowing and they made up virgin cherry sour cocktails for my wife. The vibe here is really chilled and the decor made it feel like a home from home. We would 100% come again and would even travel from Ashford just to eat here. The food on the menu was far more than what you'd expect from a pub, and we even complemented the chef directly

Absolutely LOVED our stay at the George and Heart House. I don’t usually leave reviews but had to come on and give one for this as it was so special and deserved it. We stayed in Studio Margate which was beautiful - such a comfy bed, lovely robes and amenities and a lot more space than it looked like online. Shower was great too and the sweet touches such as ear plugs and a Spotify playlist made it feel so personal and special. It didn’t bother us at all that the toilet was just down the hallway - actually almost preferred it that way! The mini bar was great, we definitely enjoyed the tea, coffee and biscuits throughout our stay. The breakfast was also really lovely - so much choice and clearly great quality ingredients. The fact we could sit in the sunny peaceful terrace area for it was a plus! The staff were all so helpful and friendly too. Next time we need to try the pub food! Honestly would come back and book again in a heart beat - it’s one of the most gorgeous places we’ve stayed in a long time! Thank you George & Heart - see you soon!

When we arrived in Margate we were starving and many places were closed - but we're happy they were because otherwise we might not have found ourselves at the George & Heart House and were absolutely blown away by the exceptional food and wonderful service. I had the steak, my partner the cheeseburger - and we honestly savored every bite. I also reccommend the tiramisu, and whatever drink the staff suggest. This sort of top shelf cooking using regional ingredients entirely deserves to be savored and praised. The service was flawless, the music and decor were perfect; I cannot recommend this place enough. First time to eat here.We sat at the bar before being seated ...Prices of drinks (cocktails overpriced). Once seated for dinner the service was very poor. Leaving us for ages before being asked if we would like a drink. We eventually ordered the Roast and I had clarified with the waiter that the roast potatoes would be fresh and crispy. On arrival the Yorkshire pudding took over the plate (but you couldn't even cut into it) The Roast potatoes had been re heated and was almost impossible to cut into.I asked the waitress if they had been re heated and the response was that with 180 covers they couldn't be expected to provide freshly cooked Roast potatoes so clearly numbers are more important than the quality of the food. We left our meal and was extremely disappointed. We found also that the toilets had not been tended to ...no paper and unclean. Unlikely that we will be returning .

Lovely little pub we have visited a few times. Little pretentious and the crowd backs this up. I think if your a hipster local you got in well but it takes them a while to warm up to visitors. I’ve been here 4 times so it’s nice but each time it’s been a similar vibe. Once I was turned away as they had no table but a ‘friend walked up’ and the server said I’ll see why I can do wait here .. and they were seated. I find this disappointing and a very does your face fit kinda vibe. Other times I’ve been back and it’s been pleasant but again the bar staff kinda don’t want to be there or just want to chat to friends. I keep persevering as it’s such a gem so I’m heading back this weekend and hoping for the best this time with a reservation in off peak times. I’ll keep you posted!

( part of the veg I had was one small carrot, think they were low on those also) There were seven of us and we were seated next to a busy thoroughfare of the waiting staff , despite trying to squeeze up against the table as much as possible the waitresses must have banged into our backs about 10 times( we are not big people) with no apologies. It was towards the end of the day and they seemed keen to let us know they’d had a busy day and they’d had enough!! One waitress came up towards the end and instead of asking if everything was ok just said “ you done here?” I could go on but I think you get the picture. Everyone has an off day I guess, maybe we were unlucky but there a lot of really good places in Margate now so I don’t think I’ll give them a second chance.

This beautiful building is an absolute gem in Margate, if you haven't visited then you really must. The food is really good, delightfully presented and utterly delicious. They do not have a massive selection of different food choices, but what they do offer they do really, really well. The ambience and decor is very fitting for the building and is very welcoming. But what makes this gem even more special are the people that work there. Helpful, considerate, very accommodating, and very professional in a totally relaxed environment. We were a party of ten people, and everyone had a really good experience. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

I stayed here recently with a friend. The pub is quirky, old and the rooms are beautifully decorated.

Definitely my sort of pub. I liked the vibe, the decor and drinks selection. Staff seemed friendly. It's a small pub so space is limited. Giving a 4 star because there was a very cold draft coming into the pub. I moved to a different table but it didn't make much difference. I imagine this place would be a better experience during warmer months as there were quite a few tables outside.

Booked yesterday, for Sunday Roast this evening at 5.30. I rang early afternoon to advise that our party would require two vegan and two meat roast and informed there would be plenty of everything. The service was good and food arrived promptly, but the nut roast consisted on what was essentially a stuffing tray bake. Very flat and somewhat lacking in flavour. Many restaurants are buying in to vegan roasts with an array of mains, mushroom wellington, e.g. so this felt distinctly lazy. Our vegetables consisted of two dark greens, broccoli and cavelo Nero, potatoes and one carrot. Cauliflower cheese was unavailable, vegan or otherwise. Although fairly reasonably priced for an establishment that is a definite step up from your normal ‘pub grub’, the meal lacked imagination and flavour. My husband enjoyed his lamb roast, but I would definitely recommend looking further afield for vegan and vegetarian options. This place is certainly lacking in that area.

Lovely old pub with a large outside seating area, bang in the middle of the Old Town. There are 3 areas inside but they all seague into one another quite comfortably. There is an interesting range of local beers - if you can't get good beer in Kent, you won't get it anywhere! The short drinks list was also a bit unusual & my daughter-in-law opted for the coffee lemonade which sounded quite odd but tasted delicious! We had the manchego croquettes & the cured salmon which was beautifully balanced with just the right amont of oiliness. I was tempted by the puds but went instead for the cheese selection which was super & quite a large portion. It was fairly busy for a Tuesday evening in October & there only appeared to be 2 staff front of house - a lady behind the bar & one waiter. However, the service was very good no complaints at all. I would certainly go back next time I'm in the area.

I booked the Margate Suite (a double room at £185 per night). A bit like a few other reviews on here, I really wanted to like it, and could tell that lots of time had gone in to designing the rooms and the furnishings. The website said our room had a private toilet just outside the room, one of the main reasons i went for that room instead of the £140 alternative. The toilet was in a room full of other toilets, down the hall. Our 'private' toilet had our room name on it, as did the other 'private' toilets for the other rooms. Im not quite sure why our room was more expensive than the other rooms.... There was very little privacy in the individual toilets - the doors don't reach the ceiling! The toilet was so small, I could barely do a full turn in it (and I'm 5'1"!). The bedroom itself was also tiny, barely enough room for two people to move around the bed without moving out the way for the other! I had to put my suitcase in the shower or on the tiled bit of floor in front of the sink. The pictures really do not give a good sense of how small it is. The breakfast was a small table with a few croissants, some meat and cheese, cereal, milk and orange juice on. After ten minutes, I went up to the shared area upstairs where the bedrooms were to make a coffee before realising that someone was actually there who you could order coffee from. To be honest, it felt a bit like a hostel on top of a pub. If the rooms were a reasonable price, I would be giving it it a much higher rating but £185 was just not justifiable. A complete rip of, in fact.

Had a brilliant evening here on their Halloween themed Quiz Night. The service from the bar staff was excellent, the seating well laid out and some nice ale on sale. The quiz was first class, with some additional games thrown in for fun. It's certainly a venue we will be returning to. 😀 😄😄

We called in to get lunch when so many cafes seemed to be shut but the menu was set up for starters & mains. We asked if they did sandwiches & the friendly waitress said no - but she came back later with the chef offering to do interesting wraps/toasties (cheese melt in naan bread, halloumi in brioche bun...) - which went down really well - so thank you for being imaginative

Great pub with great service considering how busy it was. Six of us came for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. Will definitely return in the near future.

Out first ever visit and we were impressed by what we had for lunch. We only chose a wrap and jacket potato, respectively, but both were beautifully presented, nicely done and very tasty. The restaurant was spotless and the service was excellent - staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

For the first time my family felt being ignored because we did not wanted any drinks and only interested in food. For 40 minutes nobody came to take our food order although place got busy only 20minutes after we were sitting already (all new seated customers received their drinks). Ended up getting fish and chips take away from different place. Food on the menu looked promising but we left hungry. Do not like leaving negative reviews but after consulting the family, decided to share our experience.

My husband and I went in for coffees. We both left them on the table as it was too disgusting to drink. My cappuccino had an artificial saccharine taste and no coffee flavour whatsoever. It tasted like the cheap Poundland packets. It was watery, sugary, artificial tasting , cheap muck. My husband’s filter coffee was no better. It was watery and tasteless . Definitely won’t be back.

My husband and I had a good meal. My gnocchi was usual and very tasty. We were so fortunate to have aview over the sea and the most beautiful sunset. All the staff were lovely and helpful. But you do need to book on a sunny evening.
