Went with friends recently for a Xmas evening dinner. Cannot fault the service…very attentive without being overbearing…food arrived promptly…staff regularly checking that we were ok for drinks etc…professional yet friendly, a real good balance…food was very nice, no complaints…all in all a very enjoyable experience at The Falstaff 🙂

The food was very nice here for a Sunday lunch but when we arrived we weren’t very well greeted and I didn’t particularly feel very welcome. Our food orders were not taken until after 45 minutes, and then each course took 1 hour to come. It was very disappointing, no water was offered for the table and no one came to check the food was ok during the meal. It’s a real pity as the food was actually quite nice but the service let the whole show down unfortunately and it isn’t an experience I would like to visit any time soon.

I’m not usually one to write a negative review but with how awful the service was I received Saturday for my sisters birthday breakfast I feel the need! After waiting 30 minutes for our coffee, our breakfasts arrived - the vegan breakfast, was not vegan - so was sent back, the second breakfast to arrive - was not vegan!!! When questioned the reply we received was its vegetarian breakfast, the breakfast had egg on, vegans don’t eat eggs! We sent back again and told them not to bother and was told we wouldn’t be charged for her breakfast. I should think not when she didn’t even pick up her knife and fork to eat it. Surly an establishment such as this knows the difference between vegan and vegetarian??? It took an hour and 40 mins for a cup of coffee and a roll. When going to pay the miserable sour faced lady who my mum asked for the bill looked at my mum like a piece of c*** at the bottom of her shoe! I just wish my mum would of told me at the time as the breakfast would not of been paid for at all!!! We saw one lady walk out when we first got there just a shame we didn’t leave with her. Complete and utter waste of the morning. Had we been apologised and not spoken to like we were a burden being there then I wouldn’t of felt the need to write this but as I work in the same industry, i feel you need to train your staff to not be so rude and unwelcoming. Certainly won’t be coming back here again which is a shame as we’ve been for a few lovely afternoon tea previously.

Discovered whilst ambling around the backstreets, absorbing the quaint and varied architectural features of old Ramsgate... This area of the town appears to be experiencing a subtle regeneration (hopefully a well-balanced one!) which should do justice to the historic harbour area and seafront and encourage more investment to the town. The Falstaff has a take-away frontage but we chose to take the family for a sit-down lunch and sometimes pop in for a coffee and snack. The interior is cosily characterful and very clean (with a small courtyard garden to the rear): coffee is always good and hot and served in cheery cups by polite, efficient staff. There are gf and vegan options. COVID regulations are reassuringly adhered to and the toilet is always clean We haven’t stayed here but have observed several happy guests checking out! The hotel management seems most efficient. In fact, we almost wish we lived further away in order to come and stay!

It's rare I post a review on trip advisor. Most people seem to use TTrip Advisor to moan about somewhere they went and didn't like or actually threaten a place with a bad review to try to get either a free meal or a heavily discounted one (sad but let's be honest....true} ANYWAY, I only tend to post a review on somewhere if I believe it to be exceptional and this makes the grade. I grew up round here and many many years ago, this place was a run down seedy sort of pub. Now it's a fabulous Boutique Hotel and Restuarant/Cafe and the short version from me is just "WOW!" I'm fully aware of what the hospitality sector is going through at the moment as my wife works within it so naturally when we both get the chance to go out (which isn't often enough) she is a fierce critic and spots every detail because it's what she does herself. I on the other hand just say what I think! So........ given the Covid-19 stuff, this place had a great one way system which is not difficult to follow although I'm sure someone will try! Tables and chair are socially distanced both inside and out in the garden with nice polite signs asking not to move furniture as it's been placed for optimum social distancing. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. This is always a bit part of anywhere I visit if I'm honest So on to the food and drink.............. We were recommended by a friend to come here and have breakfast. The coffee was amazing (apparently a local blend from Canterbury but I can't remember the name) and had a great taste to it. Nice and strong and not wishy washy Then on to Breakfast................ I went for the simple and humble Bacon & Egg Sandwich which you could have on a choice of breads. Not stingy with the bacon and the bread was lightly toasted. My wife had the Plymouth Rock which basically makes a Macdonalds Sausage McMuffin look positively anemic (see the picture I've posted) and she loved every bite of it! We also liked that we were supplied with a nice ice cold bottle of water too (I presume tap water) which was a nice touch and worthy of mentioning as not many places do this and personally, I love it! All in all, our experience was one of great enjoyment, as I mentioned, when your wife has worked in the industry for almost 30 years and can herself do everything from Silver Service to proper Barista Coffee (hence why I'm spoilt when it comes to coffee), it can make you a rather harsh critic but both she and I loved our visit today. Pulling off the experiences we had today I know are much harder given Covid-19 but they had all that sorted We only have 3 gripes. 1. Neither of us get much time off together and we not wish we did as we want to come back as soon as we possibly can 2. We wish we didn't live round here then we could book to stay here in their hotel side and 3. We wish we'd ordered the doughnuts too after seeing some being brought out for another table just as we were leaving They looked amazing! Like I say, I don't use the Trip Advisor platform to moan. I use it to shout about somewhere that is worth shouting about. Independent businesses have got it tough at the moment given all the Covid-19 stuff so if you're anywhere near here, go and pay the Falstaff in Ramsgate a visit. You really wont be disappointed!

Ten of us chose the Falstaff for a family reunion and could not have been more disappointed in the way the meal turned out. We booked several days in advance and still had to wait over an hour for any main courses to arrive. The roast beef choice was really horrible, with tasteless, fatty beef slices, overcooked vegetables, soggy yorkshire puddings which tasted only of the salty gravy with smothered everything. One of us sent back her main dish because it wasn't what had been described on the menu. I could only eat a few mouthfuls of mine because it all tasted so horrible. Most of our party were local and will definitely not be recommending the Falstaff to any friends. It was a dreadful experience and quite ruined our special day.

This was the so called restaurant quality food, that we were served on Wednesday for my sisters birthday meal 🤮🤬🤮 we arrived at 19.00 ordered our meals and we waited over an hour!! They eventually brought our dinner out, but myself and my sister still waited a further ten minutes for ours and one was a salad lol?! Puff pastry was awful, mashed potato was full of hard lumps and all veg was cold!! Chunky chips was a joke and the so called trio of relish, they’re wasn’t any?! All 9 meals were absolutely disgusting 🤢 to be fair the waiter would not accept payment as we hardly touched our food as it was inedible and we were offered compensation in the way of a free roast the following Sunday; however my sister received an email on the Saturday night stating it was no longer possible. We will never ever be booking a table at this so called restaurant again as my sisters birthday meal was totally ruined, nice one Falstaff!!!!! 😡🤬😡

From the small bar area to the restaurant itself it had quite a nice clean warm environment. Each lunch course had enough choice to please without overdoing things, but we were a little disappointed that there was not even a small choice of fish dishes on their "Catch of the Day", as was stated in their menu for the main course. We did ask if the chef had any fish available but unfortunately told there was only a breaded white fish that he could do, maybe we were just unlucky on the day.

Having chatted down the road to a couple of Ramsgate Heritage Society members who highly recommended the Falstaff, we popped in for a sandwich. This is a lovely, rather quirky, place which has been beautifully restored and consists of a pub, cafe and hotel. Our coffee and sandwiches were just what we needed, the sourdough sandwiches being huge and tasty. Karen, the bar lady was lovely and gave us a mini tour of the hotel, including the upstairs Wellington room, a beautifully preserved regency room, as well as one of their bedrooms, and even showed us where to find the car park. She is a great ambassador for the place! The high class photographic artwork dotted around the walls is very beautiful. We are definitely tempted to return for a stay!

Not really reassuring eating in a restaurant named after Shakespeare's most successful and transposable clown: you're never entirely sure whether the joke will end up on you...or not. Nonetheless, an awkwardly quite, off-season dinner turned into something quite entirely palatable. Opting to duck into a corner of this airy yet traditional gastropub, we experienced both great service and great food, to the point that we tottered down the trendy road still open to exploring its other charms. While we understand that it also offers a lovely little hotel experience, we can only comment on the excellent gastronomy, which was basically like a punch-up between erstwhile local resident Charles Dickens (who kept his younger mistress down these parts) and Mrs Isabella Beeton, though the taxonomy reflects an early local pattern for this region's high adherence to a pro-Brexit ideology. More than a single mouthful, methinks...

We've been there previously and had excellent food and service. But it has clearly gone very downhill. Went with my mum for Saturday lunch – ordered the calamari and the goat's cheese to start. Goat's cheese was fine but the calamari was the stingiest portion ever (7 quid for 5 pieces of calamari) and not particularly good. We both had the burger for a main – both overcooked and served on those irritating breadboards where you end up getting crumbs everywhere (what's wrong with a plate?). Chips were nice but that was it. As I said, it's just a shame because the last time we went, the food was brilliant. I recommend hiring a new chef. Service was pleasant though.

The manageress who took our plates away seemed rather disgruntled that I'd mentioned the beef was like leather and it was I who had to request that we did not pay for this dish. Oh dear first time visit and very disappointed. Fish n chips...overcooked batter and fish cold in the middle, homemade steak burger barely warm with cold toasted bun...chips with both meals had seen better days. Manager offered anything I wished to eat on the house, said I was very dubious in case not cooked properly and was assured he would oversee personally so with this in mind ordered the slow cooked lamb shank, well presented and potatoes gravy etc piping hot but the shank itself stone cold! Needless to say at this point time to leave...we had already witnessed a meal being returned before ours even came to the table. I felt sorry for the people sitting around us who had yet to order. On leaving the restaurant the manager Tod was very apologetic and said it was the chef's last day and asked us at some point to give it another chance....doubtful we will even with the offer of a free bottle of wine. Service should never have gone ahead today as obviously big problems in the kitchen. We ordered & then the waitress came back to say only one Camembert to share was left however they did offer an alternative. 2 of the party had burgers & said they were cold but the chips hot. The rest of the meals were lovely, perfectly cooked duck but it would have been nice to be advised on ordering it came with limited vegetables & then we would have ordered a potato dish or such like. Only one dessert was requested. The chef came out & said as we had complained about the burgers he would not charge for the desserts, of which we had one! After further conversation when the bill arrived the charge for one of the burgers was dropped. The waiter was a very nice chap and he is a credit to the establishment! My partner and I stayed at the Falstaff for one night on Sunday, 27 August. It was a last minute decision booked over the phone with no prior knowledge of the hotel. We were both delighted when we were shown our beautifully furnished room with en suite. The room had tea and coffee making facilities plus bottles of water. The Falstaff has a wonderful atmosphere mainly due to the mismatched furniture and decor. Also, there is a lovely garden area outside. Another thing I noticed was that everywhere was beautifully clean, especially the loos. The service we experienced from all the staff was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast of advocado on Sourdough bread with bacon which was served quickly and efficiently. However, I would like to add that if I had read some of the recent reviews, there is no way and I would have stayed one minute, let alone overnight ! I feel sad for the people who have had a bad experience. I can honestly say our experience was positive in all respects and will come back. We will definitely recommend The Falstaff to friends and family.

Visited this evening after being tempted by reading the menu outside earlier in the day. Afraid the reality did not live up to the expectation. My granddaughter was looking forward to the Halloumi Mix Grill which included some roasted beetroot. When the meal arrived there was no beetroot. The waitress said she would get some but when this arrived it was just heated up beetroot, not at all roasted. My other granddaughter ordered the chickpea curry with basmati rice. When it came though, the rice was long grain and not basmati. I was really looking forward to the battered cod and home made chips. A real disappointment as the batter was so overcooked it was actually almost black in parts and the fish was dry and overcooked. 50% of the chips were black inside and not very appetising. The chocolate brownie and ice cream was spoilt because it was hard and totally cold. It needed to be warmed up. We were given some complementary bread while waiting for our meals but this was hard and boarding on stale. Rather not be offered this if it couldn't be fresh. All in all, very disappointing and very overpriced. Such a shame as we live in walking distance and would love to be able to come here often but until things improve this won't happen.

I visited the Falstaff a couple of months ago and absolutely loved it with an array of sandwiches and plentiful cakes to choose from and wonderful staff. Myself and friend were so blown away we recommended to all! I now retract that recommendation due to a visit with 7 friends yesterday afternoon! The service was awful, we were pointed to our table rather than shown! The sandwiches and cakes were placed on the table with no explanation or even pleasantries! The sandwiches were lovely but the cakes extremely disappointing and very few! The scones were flat and already filled with jam (clearly to save on cost) we had lovely pots last visit! The rest of the cakes were sponge cake with no variety! The after service once we complained hasn't been great at all and we felt like we've been shrugged off! All I can say is the lad named Aston who works there was just wonderful when he took over from the very dismissive lady before him! He was extremely apologetic and was the only highlight of the experience! It really is the little things and you've taken them away to save money and I feel you will lose a lot of custom... 8 yesterday will not return for a cream tea

Thursday evening menu which was a set price, I really was tempted to visit for the scallops starter only to be disappointed straight away as I was told they were not available so I had second choice the mussels which was extremely nice, but my husband had crab salad and it was full of shell . The main corse was a bit of a cock up I ordered one fish only to be served an other and it was a very tiny portion. Husbands Burger was average.

This hotel advertises that you can get breakfast as a non resident. Well we have been twice to get breakfast on a Sunday morning and you can't. The woman we have met twice ,she has dark hair and is in her, forties ( we think) she is also, we think the manager. She is rude and dismissive, saying " oh the hotel is full we are not doing breakfast. She does not apologize she does not look sorry, in fact she looks quite smug!! We will not go there again. They should not put A boards outside saying breakfast.nor should they advertise saying they do.Clearly, she feels she does not have to make the effort, this despite the fact that when it first opened they couldn't get customers. Complacency has set in and that woman's attitude will take them back to those days and no customer's means no business means no job!

we had heard so much about this place for a roast on a sunday so we decided to try it, but sadly it didn't come up to expectations...I was told about the amazing doughy yorkshires but they were huge and crispy, my lamb was over cooked and hard and grissly, this was very disappointing, we were told that the regular chef was off so we will try it again

Had high expectations for this, being highly recommended, but left slightly disappointed. Quite a long wait for food. Simple veg - carrot/swede mash, cauliflower - roast potatoes not crispy and the yorkshires although huge, were dry and crumbly. Ordered blueberry cheesecake with apple sorbet for afters, which was more like a mousse, and the sorbet was definitely not apple, and not a sorbet! Apparently the regular chef was not on this day. The service was friendly, the wine reasonably priced and the table well set with water and condiments, just expected a bit more. Standard, but not special.

We have visited this restaurant for lunch twice now, its in a lovely part of Ramsgate with easy access to the harbour area. The surroundings are great, and the service is laid back but efficient. The food is good value and tasty. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in the area.

I came here in early March with my partner, his grandmother and godmother. I had booked online using Facebook and they were very quick and helpful. They asked us what we would like, tea or coffee, and were very accommodating when my partner's godmother requested hot water and a tea bag because she likes her tea so weak! They then brought out my tiers with sandwiches, scones and cake, as well as a large board of sandwiches for the others- this was very generous, as most places are restrictive with the sandwiches, and this is my partner's favourite bit. They then bought out three different types of sweet, including a tart, pastry and bakewell. They also brought out 'mini' meringues (they were big enough for a dessert, and gluten-free!) and warm scones. We had a couple of free tea top-ups too. It was honestly one of the best afternoon teas I've ever had, everything was catered for and there was plenty of lovely food. It's also cheaper than your average afternoon tea. I've already booked a second visit! Thank you, I will be recommending to everyone :)

Previously we had enjoyed a great sunday lunch. The second visit on a Thursday evening and was quite a different experience. I can only describe it a harrowing flashback to my youth and forgettable school dinners. The lamb was truly overcooked, the indifferent veg piled up in the centre of the plate and the potato gratin was dry and tasteless. If it were possible to make matters worse the time between courses was unacceptably long. Although in this rather sad experience not long enough.

Yesterday six friends who meet each month for a meal out decided to go for the first time to the Falstaff for afternoon tea. It was a great choice as we were welcomed by the young lady serving at the Bar who showed us to our window table. Once all of us had arrived another friendly waitress brought us tea or coffee followed by an array of very fresh assorted finger sandwiches of every description. Afterwards this was followed by dishes of home made warm scones (best I have ever tasted) with jam and cream. Several plates of super individual cakes werd then served, i.e. meringue nests with red currants/grapes, strawberry or lemon swiss rolls, sticky toffee cakes and flapjacks. This just cost us only £12.50 each!!! All of us left with "doggy bags". Well done to all excellent Falstaff staff. We will definitely back to try other meals.

Had a family Sunday lunch but have to say didn't find that great. Staff are good but food was a bit of a let down, roast potatoes seemed odd, hard and chewy. From reading other reviews thought it was going to be better but price is about right for a pub Sunday lunch. Had roast beef, only 2 slices and small bit of veg, left the roast potatoes, not much choice for kids only half portions of adults meals. Starter was tasteless , pork terrine with a chutney which was too sweet and more like sugar syrup . Wouldn't go back.

Had as normal and great day. Staff and Management working as a team under pressure to meet the high standards they have set themselves. I would highly recommend their breakfasts which are available between 0930 until 1100 hrs. Lunch is adventures and is better than the description on the lunch options, which is a definite positive .The Staff have always been in my opinion friendly, professional, and have also given an individual service with appropriate banter and comment. The venue is highly recommended and although I have not had any chance to use their accommodation I will be advising my ageing parents to visit next year as the rooms have only recently been completely redone in last few years. The photo is old and is now 3 times the previous size, go on line and you will just see the amount of effort which has been lavished upon the New Falstaff Hotel. Members of the public are also most welcome from 0930 hrs from Tuesday to Sunday. I only can give them praise for having saved the building which took 3 years total renovation and now one may enjoy out door venue, function room Wellington Room, shop which does lovely freshly backed sourdough bread and other goodies. Give it a try and give me your opinion. Highly recommended Patrick FitzGerald.

We organised an 'after wedding day' family afternoon tea for 18 people at short notice with The Falstaff. They were brilliant. We paid just 12.50 a head for mountains of delicious sandwiches and cakes. They happily catered for guests with allergies and accommodated a toddler. Fresh warm scones were served alongside bowls of fresh cream and homemade jam. They even put our wedding cake topper on a board in the centre of the table and cut some remaining wedding cake and allowed me to dish it out. Everything was just perfect. The only downside was that we couldn't eat it all. I have dined here before and the restaurant itself is beautiful decorated and laid out, the outside area lovely too. The toilets are immaculately clean, modern and well equipped. I can't rate this highly enough and I'm coming back for dinner soon. Thank you to everyone at the falstaff who made our afternoon so special.

This is a great great place to eat. We had the good luck of rocking up on Thursday night when they run a special menu for £10. I had a delicious burger, with chips made from actual potatoes (remember them?), coleslaw made with real vegetables and yummy brioche buns. Plus a lovely apple and strawberry drink. My lovely date had the vegetarian haloumi burger which I'm told was delicious. So impressed were we we returned on Saturday night: I had cod and it was so fresh and tasty, the date had moules in a lovely sauce "the best I've ever had" said the happy eater. We ate elsewhere in the town, nothing compared. We will return. And lovely staff, and lovely quirky surroundings. Massive massive four thumbs up recommendation.
